This was a 40cm (15 inches) drop..
I'm glad that I got insurance
Ouch, that's gotta hurt (his wallet)!!
The screen must have hit the corner of something to have damaged it that severely. There's a vid going round on youtube of someone dropping one from over a meter and a half, and it's just fine.
I've done a scratch test on mine, but don't have the cajones to try a drop test!
I bet he's gutted!

Yeah, I've seen the video on youtube, but some people think that it is a dummy phone, and they might just be right.
I dropped mine a meter today and it was fine, but it was onto carpet, so not really a big test. Think it landed flat screen up too.
Nasty & expensive.
I must take out Vodafone's insurance when mine comes through!

Hi i know it's too early to talk about this but has any of you like me dropped the x1??
all because i used the p1i puche which is very large for x1 and it slips i did this twice the second time i threw the pouche out of the window.
So my advice dont ever use p1i pouche ....
Is that the one they recommend using?
no but i i thought it was the best. It looks very soft and professional... if you know a better one (from sony ericsson possibly) please tell me.
I'm waiting on the official Sony Ericsson ICE-40 classic pouch which I've heard fits perfectly. You can find it on eXpansys and most anywhere else on the net.
I'll try to remember to post a micro-review of it when i do get it...
I have th ICE-40 and it is not so great. The phone fits in too tight and when you try to get the phone out in a hurry like when receiving a call, you end up trying to pull the phone out with all your might. And if you're just trying to pull out the phone in general, you usaully end up pressing the power button at the same time, if you're right handed. Not to mention the clip has an edge which basically makes it like a slot so its, almost impossible to slip it to you pants without unzipping them. They designed the clip more for people who wear belts, so that the belt can just slide through the clip. Thinking about getting a generic case at the mall or something.
I use either one of these and that's it.

I did, just yesterday. Nothing happened, not even single scratch - and it fell from ca. 160 cm, on the corner. Well, the battery popped out, but that's all.
I saw this sorry sight over on the HoFo.

Believe it or not, but a screen protector increases the skin tension of the glass (like a laminate) and adds a lot of strength.
I once dropped an iphone from waist height onto a bitumen road, LCD screen first and it hit a rock right on the screen. Not a scratch on the screen (altho I needed to replace the screen protector) but the LCD and glass survived.
So IMO, screen protectors are an integral part to protecting the glass.
the horror!!!!!
My virgin eyes!!!
same i dropped my g1 once on concrete from 5 feet. It made a nice scratch in the screen protector but the screen was fine. It woulda jacked up my screen if i didnt hav eit.
Wow that screen is all sorts of f'ed up

Maybe he bought a piece of film like he said in his first and the third post?
http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direct/3m-di-noc-carbon-fiber-vinyl
That might make it easier for you.
I did this with black carbon. Had it on for about a week and took it off. It kinda reminded me of one of those coffee carabiners.
it stays on very well to my surprise thought it would have peeled on the edges by now
30 minutes of work

What did you use? I've taken off the coating with my nail which just scratched off.
I have no way of getting to a machine so it would have to be by hand.
I did it by hand as well, using 100, 600 and 1000 sanding paper, followed by metal paste (car chrome polish) and cloth.
Thanks. Ill try that.

There's already been a thread on here about this, and here's his blog post:

1) black color peeled off, so cover was ugly
2) I really like duo-color case
3) looks more luxurious
4) why not?

I dropped my phone and destroyed the screen a few weeks ago. Fortunately I was insured, they agreed to fix it and I got it back inside 10 days or so. Problem, the damn screen was loose at the top corner - you could fit a fingernail in easy. So, more than a bit annoyed I called them up and they apologised, said they'll pay for the postage and they'd sort it out.
Sent it back and they just returned it with the same damn problem! I can lift half the screen out of the case if I pry my fingernail under the (already loose) top edge - see attached photo. You can push it back in place, everything works fine but it works loose if worn in a pocket like normal.
Clearly their engineers are incompetent and I don't know if I can be bothered to return it AGAIN to find most likely the same problem repeated. Looking at the inside it seems that it's just a bad glue job - I can see sticky stuff that's meant to be holding it in place. :silly:
My question is - could I just reglue the screen in there? Does anyone know what kind of glue to use?
If it's covered by insurance get them to fix the problem at their expense as if you glue it yourself you would render insurance invalid if any other problem happened they wouldn't fix it as it would be voided because you glued it yourself
*Sigh* - yeah like I said - send it back a 3RD TIME? I really think they have trained chimps doing the repair work.
