Hey,
Just upgraded to the Official Sense UI, and it runs great. The ROM itself is lacking the Android Marketplace and I'm wondering if there's a way I can put it back on? Unfortunately I have a perfected SPL so I can no longer fastboot to any other ROM's
Any help would be great thanks,

have you tried just pushing the apk to the phone?
Do you have a 1.5 Donut compatable vending.apk?
I've tried searching around (other shady forums) and found a few copies of it, the closest i got was an install through Astro install of Market v1.3
It opens fine, but downloading apps causes the Market to force close.

No I do not, but hypothetically, can't you just pull the market apk from one of the donut roms that are on this forum and then push it to your phone?

In theory I could... And I will look into it, so thanks for the suggestion.
Not quite knowledgable enough to do it yet though.
download any rom unzip it and look in either
system app
data app
data app_s
and look for vending.apk or market.apk
put file inside sdk tools
try
adb remount
adb install vending.apk
or
adb push vending.apk /system/app

Thanks, will look into when I'm home tonight.
Tried various copies of vending.apk and either they won't install or they install and then the app will force close when I download something.
Nothing can be installed using ADB becuase of the perfected SPL.
Can you root the phone again using the unlockr method?
It looks like you have to return to custom Rom in order to get marketplace.

Tried using the unlockr method, but I can't flash a recovery .img (could not run command). Are there any other methods of flashing recovery roms?

application not installing?
Hi, when I am installing stock.apk and the widget it goes to the installer and just cancels on me I tried this multiple times and things aren't working for me. .
Any suggestions on how to fix this I really like the stock ticker option for the widget.
I am running Warm 2.2 rls5 on htc incredible with the stock ziggy kernal
Thank You:

I can start the installation and there is a processbar. But in the end it just says that the application has not been installed.
Is there a log file that could hint anything?
don't install it like a normal APK, copy it directly to /system/app with ADB or Root Explorer.
Swyped from my HTC Desire running LeeDrOiD 2.3d with Tapatalk.
How To install via ADB
* Restart your phone in recovery mode.
* Make sure you connected your phone to your machine
* Open console on your machine (any OS)
* Navigate to android sdk path (ex in windows- c:\dev\android-sdk\platforms-tools)
* Execute the following command,
>adb shell mount /system
>adb push <pathtoapk> /system/app

Voila! done.
Reboot from your recovery.

What version do you currently have?
Did it come with your rom or did you download it?
You can backup your settings (export) to your sdcard and restore (import) with the new version if by chance your settings are not preserved.
Im using CM 5.0.8 ,and it came with 0.8.9.
And how do i go about doing that export/import?
Either download link from your phone and install or download on PC put on SD card open file manager and install are easiest. Put it on a friends phone. Looks good. Backup and restore are in settings adw.

Do a search for ADW.Launcher in the Market, it's there. Just make sure you have a period in between "ADW" and "Launcher."
Hey,
I'm interested in updating the ADW.Launcher version that came with my CM5.0.8 rom, but I don't know if it's OK to update through market or get the apk file and use "adb install" or find a zip file to flash...
Could anyone make some light in here pls?
Thanks!
I have tried downloading the apk file for my CM5x and MDPI device from Anderweb's page but when I tried to "adb install" I get...
INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS
Can someone shed some light? Is there a way to update the ADW.Launcher that comes with a specific ROM version?
Tried using android commander?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Since I'm new to this scene, what is the difference between the "adb install" method and using the Android Commander (which I need install)?
Would Astro help in this case, because I remember reading that has support for installing apk files?
I'd like to do this update as clean as possible.
Thank you for the reply!
PS: I have actually installed Android Commander and installed the ADW.Launcher apk for CM5x MDPI as an Update (wasn't sure what to chose between Private, Application or Update) and the installer said it was successful but after reboot I still have the old version 0.8.6
Any ideas?
U can download it put it on your sdcard and install with a file manager. Doesn't matter which way u go. Should work. Done it both ways
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
I did it somewhat the way you said and installed it with Android Explorer as an update because the regular installation would fail with the error that the application already exists.
The problem is that the new version gets copied into /data/apps/ and I can start using it but after the first reboot it's not there anymore and I get back to the one that came with my CM5.0.8 rom which is in /system/apps/
I would really like to get a solution that would update the one in /system/apps/ which might be harder because it's a memory mapped version of the ROM and changes get lost after reboot.
Please correct me where I am wrong...
Have u tried goin to the market and installing it from there? It's like version 1.4.1 or something now
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
place the file on your /sd.
adb push /sdcard/filename.apk /system/app
restart home or reboot phone.
I ended up installing the one from Market and making that the default launcher, but I would really like to just replace the one in the system folder - no need to keep 2 versions of the same app
I'll try the method NetrixTardis was suggesting.
U can do it through the terminal as well. Maybe removing the old one will solve it. Use the rm command in the terminal and see if u can do it that way. Ex.
$su (enter after each line)
#rm /system/app/(name of app.apk)
Then u can use cp command to copy the one from your sdcard.
Cp /sdcard/(app.apk) /system/app/
Someone correct me if I'm wrong in the lines
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
hey johnson8cyl
I'll try that and let you know if it worked, should I copy it to the same name?
like /system/app/adwlauncher.apk is the name for the system app, while the Market installed one is org.adwlauncher....apk
do you guys know a good keyboard replacement and a way to configure the vibration alarm on my CM5.0.8? these are mostly the things I miss from my stock ROM
oh...forgot to mention the CM5.0.8 default camera does not have all the setting (like I can't set the ISO), is there one that does that trick?
thanks!
I'll answer the keyboard part. I've got Smart Keyboard installed and its a lot better than the stock Android one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
U have to use the names exactly the one your removing and one your copying. Names have to be what u want to remove or copy. That make sense?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Makes total sense to keep the same names only that I have this problem...
any ideas? kinda makes sense because that comes from the ROM and is mounted as read-only
# su
su
# pwd
pwd
/system/app
# rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm: can't remove 'ADWLauncher.apk': Read-only file system
ps: I actually managed to fix this what was missing is "adb remount" to mount system partition read-write
So you figured it out? Were you able to get it removed and replaced?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Okay, I rooted my N1 with Universal Androot and removed the stock Froyo Twitter app without backing it up. (Shame on me.) Now, I can't update to 2.2.1 because of it (a status 7 error complaining about not finding /system/app/Twitter.apk)
I have, at the advice of some other forum posts I've read, installed Twitter from Android Market and backed it up to the sd. Renamed it Twitter.apk and used the Terminal Emulator to copy it to /system/app. That worked and the file is there, but the update still will not apply. Do I also need a .odex file? Is there any way to update at this point?
Any help would be super appreciated. THANKS!

It looks as though I can't flash the GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader and installing a new recovery, correct? I'm really not that motivated if that's the case. I appreciate the information.
OK, just download the GAPPS, then use something like estrongs file manager to unzip to a folder of choice (with estrongs, longpress and select extract).
The Twitter apk will be in the extract folder/system/app. Just click the apk to install...

BTW, if you have root, you may as well install a custom recovery (without touching the bootloader).
Easy way with ROM Manager (has Clockworkmod and Amon-Ra), or use adb if you wanna learn something...

Thanks for the tips. I'll check it out tomorrow when I can make a data transfer. I am doubtful that installing from the zip will solve much since I already loaded the app and its already in the system folder.
could someone verify whether or not the Twitter app has a corresponding odex file that I might need?
I ran into the same problem when I removed Amazon Mp3, but I was impatient so I ended up reflashing the stock rom and then updating.

Ok so after much lots of frustration realising I'd lost access to the delete system apps after installing HTC 1.72.405.3 (in LeeDrOiD 1.3) I've finally figured out a way to do it and without needing to use ROM Cleaner then re-flash a ROM wich would remove all my data/apps/ect I've loaded. Now this may well be a guide for you guys like me who are very new to Unix commands and the whole Android system. I hope that it helps someone coz honestly the last couple of days I've searched high and low and haven't gotten any answers that worked until I worked it out tonight.
Just as a quick note I was able to delete apps from the /system/app folder before this update when I was still on 1.32.405.6 using Visionary+ in loading R/W access to the system folder on boot and a simple file manager like Astro or AndroZip to delete. Since updating to 1.72.405.3 without Radio S-Off I've tried the following methods and found they don't work:
- Flashing rmk40's Super User/Root patch for 1.72.405.3 as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886999
- Visionary+ selecting R/W system access then using a file manager like Astro or AndroZip to delete.
- Terminal Emulator after getting "supposed" super user access after typing su then going to the /system/data folder and typing rm Facebook.apk ect... also using the other unix commands to try and change the system apps from read only to writable still no access.
- Using Root Explorer which is granted "supposed" super user access does not want to mount as R/W the system/app folder and of course then won't let me delete the apps.
- One click Radio S-Off doens't work as obviously I'm already locked out as I've loaded 1.72.405.3 (LeeDrOiD 1.3) before running Radio S-Off.
- Re-flashing to a previous 1.32.405 ROM then trying to run Radio S-Off followed by all the steps above. Nope nuthin...
Okay and here is is here's how it's done. I had to have the Android SDK installed with USB drivers (HTC Sync has the USB Drivers). I then in windows I opened up command prompt and using the good old DOS commands like "cd\program files (x64)" I go to my android sdk folder platform-tools. Once in the platform-tools let the foreign Unix commands begin
Without the exclamation marks type I type "adb remount shell"
Then "adb shell rm /system/app/Facebook.apk"
Now Facebook.apk being an example of the app you want to delete. I use a file browser such as Astro on my phone to go the the /system/app folder and easily look around and get the file names of the apps I want to delete. An important thing to remember for all the other's unfamiliar with Unix commands like myself, this ain't DOS. Unlike DOS, files and commands are case sensitive so if you try to delete the Facebook app and type it in "facebook.apk" all lower case it won't delete. Make note of any letters uppercase or lowercase in the folder name and file and type it in correctly in the Unix commands or they won't work.
The other two important things to note before you go on a Spring cleaning, delete frenzy (like I will be after I finish typing this up ) is: 1) If you delete some certain system apps (for example TelephonyProvider.apk) Android will **** itself and after booting enter a loop where you can't access anything & you can't stop it complaining about blah blah app failed. So make sure you have on your microSD card either a Nandroid backup done recently using the Backp/Restore function under the Bootloader installed with Clockwork Recovery or a working ROM that you've tried and know works such as the stock ROM or a custom ROM from LeeDrOiD, Cyanogen, ect. If you get into one of those non recoverable loops you'll need to flash the ROM and of course loose any data and apps not backed up. Okay this brings me to my next point. 2) If you want to copy any of the system apps off to your microSD card either to backup or just if you're not 100% sure if you may want to install it again later then in command prompt type this:
"adb shell cp /system/app/Calculator.apk /sdcard/"
Obviously here Calculator.apk is the app we are copying but you can choose any app to copy. Also /sdcard/ means it will go to the root folder of your MicroSD card.
Stick it to tha man and have fun cleaning up your ROM and deleting all that crap bloatware your service provider and HTC don't wanna give you access to and now without the cripple of HTC update 1.72.405.3 stopping you!
Are these persistent changes? If so I think you will be the saviour of many on here!

Ok I assure you it has worked and continues to work. One possible major difference I've just been told supposedly the stock HTC RUU 1.72.405.3 reverts you back to original hboot eng s-on. Me on the other hand I never loaded a stock HTC ROM 1.72.405.3 or an update. I loaded LeeDroiD 1.3 which has in it the base as 1.72.405.3 but also his modifications to that. So never lost clockwork recovery hboot. I can still load ROMs fine, I just lost functionallity from Visionary+ or anything else for that matter on the phone to access System folder R/W access. Using ADB on my PC as described above however did solve this. Unfortunately the other issue is after loading LeeDroid 1.3 it's permanently done something to my phone and even after flashing back to previous stock 1.32ROM the 1click Radio S-Off patch does absolutely nothing. Luckily Vodafone supposedly offers a free SIM unlock and there are also cheap alternatives on ebay.

Yes guys these are all persistant. I've rebooted quite a few times and none of the apps I've deleted have come back. These are the apps I've deleted from the "/system/app" folder and they 4 sure have not come back to annoy me: Facebook (crackbook as I like to say ), Twitter & Flickr including any widgets of the same name, stock or shares trading apps, default internet browser (replaced it with Dolphin HD), Flashlight (replaced it with moddified HTC one that says "torch" as I'm not a fan of US English), HTC Likes, HTC coin, probably some others I can't remember now.
So anyway go for it just use your clockwork recovery (modified hboot) to do a full backup first as if you remove the wrong system apps it goes in a non working error loop.
I'm only real new to the whole Android thing. Only had the phone 4 bout 2 weeks and never hit up any Unix commands before then. I'm happy to help out if I can though. Just message me and when I'm on next I'll try to help.
have any of you guys tried the unlockr.coms method of perm rooting?? I used it for my g2 and it worked but idk if it will work like a charm with the mt4g..also do we have to use visionary r14 or a different version because the link it gives us is visionary r14
Same as it was originally done though G2 then MT4G was developed. You can use it with ease nothing to worry about.

Rooting a MT4G will not remove any applications. Swype is pre-installed, and will stay that way. The only way to "lose" Swype is to flash a ROM that does not include it. In that case, you can go to the Swype website and download it directly by signing up for the beta.

I get this far
1. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development > and make sure USB Debugging is ON (it MUST be ON) and make sure Fastboot is checked OFF (if it exists in your settings, otherwise don’t worry about it).
2.Download Visionary from here
3. Plug in your phone via USB cable and mount the sd card so we can transfer files to it.
4.Copy the Visionary .apk file to the root of your phone’s memory card (NOT in any folder just on the sd card itself).
5. Then simply open any file manager app on your phone (like Linda File Manager for free from the Market for example) find the visionary apk file in the file manager and click it and follow the prompts to install it.

When I open the file manager app (i tried Linda and OI File Manager) the file isn't there.

If the file isn't there, I can imagine only three possibilities. Choose one. These are the only reasonable possibilities, but as we're not psychic, you'll have to figure out which it might be of these three.
You did not transfer the file to the SD card at all.
You transferred it to the wrong directory on the SD card .
You're looking for it in the wrong directory.
Could it be something else? Sure. Perhaps you renamed the file. Perhaps you switched SD cards.... but if you're using the same SD card, and you did not rename the file, then one of those three are the likely candidate.
Here's the info I know from what I've done in regards to these options (I'm going to try again tonight though)
1. You did not transfer the file to the SD card at all.
My computer can see the file on the lettered drive, (the USB port it's plugged into) there is no other address info in the address bar other than the lettered drive
2. You transferred it to the wrong directory on the SD card .
Again, same as above
3. You're looking for it in the wrong directory.
In the file explorer on the phone the address in the directory is just /
again I'm going to try tonight but maybe this info can clear it up. I'm learning a lot about these things and how they work so thanks for all the help!

II. Flash the S-OFF Hboot Image and Gain Perm Root
1. Download the rooting files:
* T-Mobile MyTouch 4G / HTC Glacier S-OFF/Rooting Files
2. Extract the files somewhere to your computer.
3. Plug your phone in via USB cable and mount the SD card so we can transfer files to it.
4. Copy the entire root folder from inside the extracted folder from step 2 to the root of your sd card on your phone (NOT in any folders, just on the SD card itself).
5. Unplug the phone.
6. Go to the Market on your phone and download/install Android Terminal Emulator (free).
4. Open the Terminal Emulator app and type the following with hitting enter at the end of each line (to get the touch screen keyboard to come up hit the menu button then toggle soft keyboard):
