I am looking at this phone on ebay and it is a lot cheaper cause it has a bad esn number. I read what it is but does it matter 2 me? I live in CHile and will use it unblocked with the chip I have right now. It will work fine, right?
Thanks
The HD is a GSM phone it doesn't have an ESN

an extremely noob question but if a claim is filed to Asurion as lost/stolen and the ESN is blocked can the unit still be used outside the US for a Tmo HD2? lets say whoever stole it went to another country and never opened it up while it was stolen and then used a SIMCARD on that country, will it still work?
It would in any country that is not sharing blocked device data with the US
google should give a few leads on this.
Yes it will - Africa for example, not sure of the EU

I want to know, if i buy this phone, unlock, and flash, i could use here in Brazil?
Wait any reply!
P.S. Sorry by the Bad English.

Not sure if the bad ESN thing is going to matter in Brasil or not. But based on a little checking I was doing it should work in Brasil. You guys do have CDMA. But your going to have to have someone change the settings to work on the Network you choose. I would also do a lot more checking online ( Google ) . Also I would try and find someone who can modify the phone to work there, before I purchased it. Better to check and make sure before you buy. Below are a couple of links for you.

The bad ESN usually only prevents the phone from being activated on the original carrier. Theoretically, a bad Sprint ESN Shift can be activated to work on Verizon, though they won't do it. As long as his Brazil carrier will accept phones from outside sources, he shouldn't have any problems. It would be like taking a bad ESN Sprint phone and getting it flashed to Cricket.
Hi, i'm buying a Samsung galaxy s3, and i worry about bad ESN phone that i can't use on my tmobile account.
For that reason, i think i will pay for a s3 ATT ( if ATT s3 is a bad ESN phone than i still can unlock and use it with my tmobile account, right? )
But i hear someone said that if i use a unlock ATT phone then tmobile data plan won't work on that att phone. I don't know if this is correct information or not.
Can someone help me out?:crying::crying:
Thank you very much.
Also Is there anyone to avoid bad esn phone on craiglists?
Furthermore, is there anyone to buy a bad ESN Tmobile phone, and somehow i can use it with tmobile ?

well you're in the wrong section. you want to go to the s3 section for this.
but to my knowledge. at&t s3 is not compatible with tmobile's 4g. you'll get EDGE speed. but once tmobile has their LTE towers up and running it should work.... NEXT year lol
no you can't used a t-mobile blacklisted phone back on t-mobile.

First of all GSM networks (T-Mobile, AT&T) do not use ESN. Only CDMA networks (like Verizon, Sprint) use it. T-Mobile and AT&T use IMEI numbers.
Second of all, unless you live in an area that T-Mobile has begun to refarm their 1900 mHz band to HSPA+ you will only getEDGE speeds onT-Mobile with an AT&T phone.
If you are so worried about buying a T-Mobile phone with a blocked IMEI number, why not either wait until you have enough money to purchase it directly from T-Mobile or meet the person you're buying from at a T-Mobile store and have the IMEI checked before you buy?

Hi
I'm thinking of ordering a galaxy s5 from ebay. There are many models that are priced siginificantly lower. I have certain questions before I make the purchase that I will be humbly thankful if anyone can help me with.
First of all, I want someone to confirm that a bad ESN ad means it's a CDMA phone where as a bad IMEI means it is GSM phone. My country only has GSM network I will probably go for a bad IMEI phone?
Second, What to do about the Bad IMEI. Is there ANY way at all taht I could make it work in my country with the GSM provider? (I'm comfortable with flashing, rooting etc).
There are some ads that say, Bad IMEI for USA. Does this mean that it iwll work in my country's network (outside of USA?).
Summary: So basically, I want to buy a bad imei galaxy s5 from ebay (mainly because of it's low price) and be able to use it in my country where all networks are GSM based. Is is possible? If so, what are the things I need to be careful about when buying a bad IMEI locked/unlocked phone?
Thanks for the help. I'm sure this will help a lot of potential s5 buyers!
Bump. I'm wondering about this too..
another bump.
Sorry, not in favour of helping people fix stolen phones. That can only spur additional thefts.
Do your best to buy a phone that doesn't have a bad ESN /IMEI in the first place.

Hello guys! I have a little problem. I win LG G2 at ebay, but as seller told me, it's BAD ESN.
I don't need to use it in USA. I live in Russia, and i just need GSM and 3g support. My question is:
Can i unlock this phone and use in my country? Will i feel the difference between BAD ESN and CLEAN ESN in my country?
Really thank you!
There is no difference for you. GSM and 3g will be worked after softunlock.

ESN are used by CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint. Verizon now uses the IMEI number. Verify the IMEI isn't blocked and you're fine.
thanks friends for help
