Any progress on this possible scenario? I am tired of waiting for SPRINT to come out with their own version?
Spring probably won't be coming out with one because its a phone made specifically for verizon based on the Touch HD
a "solution"...?
well, does anyone know of a esn solution in the works? , i'll love to use this phone on sprint, or even straight talk.

Sprint is coming out with their version, touch diamond 2 cdma. Looks to be next year, but hey don't fret, that's about when the hspl will be ready and you can play more anyway.
I wouldn't bother with messing with the esn, not to mention you will be paying full price for the device, I believe you are stuck with the TP2 or the hero right now. That's the only two devices I would own on sprint.
from what i heard you can call verizon and they will unlock it for you to use with other carriers

Have you heard something specific about this? If so it would be the first scrap of info to that effect. I'd prefer an HD2, but I'll probably go with the TD2 if it comes out first.

They're a little late but I can't find the article now but it looks like they are shooting for Q1 2010. Of course if I were sprint I would 86 the whole project as Verzon would have had that phone 4-6 months already.
Cricket
I have been using the Imagio with Cricket for a while now, and have no problems. The new Proxycap works with my wifi fix. If you don't want to add on the full HTML for an extra $15 a month.
Some of those show the Topaz, and others show the Whitestone.
Oh well, it's probably moot now that it looks like Sprint will be getting the Tungsten, which is like the HD2/Leo with a Keyboard. Probably instead of any of the above, probably calling it a "Business Phone", and probably charging a fortune for it.
does anyone have updated info on the TUNGSTEN? All the info on google is from the JAN 09.... Was wondering when this is coming out? This model doesn't seem to make sense for SPRINT since they have the TOUCH PRO2 already..... I would think customers might not immediately grasp the benefit of a phone like the tungsten?
I want to use a Verizon HTC Imagio on the Alltel Network
Like I said, I have the imagio. I got it from a friend. Verizon has bought out Alltel...not that it really matters other than the fact that alltel is pretty much done getting any cool phones. I want to use it on Alltel. I have been able to get everything to work so far except for MMS and internet sometimes go out or asks for a password. My question. I would like to provision this for alltel. Obviously this doesnt exist officially. I wonder, What if I took a alltel provisioning cab from say a touch pro and used it. Would that work?
Do you have directions on how to provision for cricket. How do you like cricket as a service is it comprable to verizon.
any news for unlock
You have to search, I posted something about this and it does work, I have it on Boost Mobile (Sprint side) but it only connects 1x and NOT EvDO, still trying to figure out how to get it to work on EvDO, I am guessing if I change the ROM it might work? I would need a Sprint Touch Pro2 ROM broadband portion that works on the Imagio.

This Jap radio *WILL* reset your phone so make sure you backup your data before using this! You have to flash the radio back to the US version.

Not sure where else to ask but I was wondering if I could get a good answer on this. To the best of my knowledge, all CDMA hardware in the US is the same. Verizon and Sprint phones to date cannot be used outside of their native carrier. I was told that the software is the limitation. Since Android is now the common denominator, it is feasible to think that we will be able to activate verizon phones on sprint and vice versa. Im moving from ATT to Sprint but see some nice Verizon phones on the near horizon. Thanks.
you can switch from sprint to verizon just like you can from att to tmobile..
you'll get the voice network no problem, it's just that sometimes with the 3g/evdo they run on difference frequencies so you generally don't get their high speed internet
you also have to get the msl info to switch it over

thanks for the response. in saying that, is the hardware different? all my googling shows what they are the same hardware (frequency wise) but the software is different. so would it be possible for a dev to make the neccessary changes to use a phone on either verizon/sprint?
Its possible to do but the issue is getting everything and registered to work on the other carrier. Usually voice is not an issue its other things like data, mms or sms that can have issues.
The bottom line on this is you are going against the grain of what everyone else does so you can't expect to get much help from the carrier (the big 3).
If Verizon lets you. You would have to ask them to add your phone to their service. Any reason why you would though? If you're joining Verizon just get the Eris, or wait another month for the Dragon/Passion.
Verizib Customer Techical Support Helpful
I just did the Alltel to Verizon shuffle with my PPC6800. They reprogrammed the carrier over the air. This messed up my various MSL settings and was generally a PITA. I got into Tech Support and whines (being a girl helps) and they tried getting me different numbers until it all worked fine. I also needed to add a phone line while Alltel since I am waiting for a new phone. I bought one at Mal*Wart for Alltel. They tried again to program it OTA when the switch was made. Rinse repeat but again customer tech support (NOT the billing people) found more magic super double secret numbers and got both instruments working. If the hardware is the same they can fix it ALL through Tech Support over the air- just beg.
I work for Verizon and YES you can use another CDMA's carrier on Verizon. As far as using a VZW phone on Sprint, unless you know someone that can reprogram it, it's not gonna happen. I USE to work for Sprint and they have this "if it doesn't say Sprint, we won't allow it" policy.
Verizon has a request sheet if you want to use your CDMA phone on verizon. You have to fill it out and send it in with your phone. They say it takes a few weeks to get it back all programmed for VZW. I've never tried it but I know people have done it. They usually program phones that they already carry, like Sprint Touch Pro to Verizon Touch Pro.. all they did was flash the rom for Verizon and etc. I uploaded the form on here somewhere.
Hope this helps
yes; i switched to cricket

I know that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA for their phones, but does anyone know if I could take my Sprint Hero to Verizon's network and have working coverage?
My sister just bought a Verizon phone and she has full coverage, with 3G, but my Hero frequently says it is roaming.
you can try... probably not gunna be easy to get them to enter that MEID into their system.
sprint doesnt charge extra for roaming UNLESS like, 60% of your calls are roaming, or something like that. In that case, they will actually call you and say "You're roaming too much, you should go to another cell phone provider" (unless the reps in my store are lying to people, lol... I just started working for sprint a couple weeks ago. Lots of people ask about roaming here)
No, Sprint doesn't charge for roaming, but if 60% of your minutes are roaming for 3+ months, they WILL call to discuss terminating your contract. As for Verizon taking on your hero, no, they 99% most likely will not. It's a VERY rare occasion they let a non verizon device on their network.
would be plenty easy to just sell your hero for a decent price and go to Verizon and get the Droid..

I thought VZW used slightly different bands for EvDO than Sprint? Or maybe I'm just imagining that since AT&T uses different bands... hm.
Seriously, if you have that much of a coverage problem, I'd talk to Sprint about cancelling without an ETF. May have to talk to their retentions department... someone who works for Sprint could shed more light.
(Personally I'd switch to T-Mobile over VZW. Cheaper, and you have an international-standard GSM device ;P)
Highly unlikely Verizon will activate it since it is not in their ESN database even though they use the same bands. Sprint won't activate Verizon phones either.

yup, if the phone doesnt say sprint either on the phone or in the firmware they will not activate it on their network.

I used to activate non-vzw phones all the time. However, smartphones may not be handled the same.
pretty sure they'll take it...they started their "any app, any device" initiative in 2008
they won't take it. they specifically said they will only activate a phone if it's either unbranded or verizon branded. sprint branding is a no go.

I don't think you can swap phones between the CDMA sprint network and the Verizon CDMA network. Don't they use different parts of the spectrum?

Not sure about the different parts of the spectrum, but you can definitely move a phone between Sprint and Verizon (from a technical point of view). But you'll have a hard time getting Sprint to activate a Verizon phone on their network. Not sure about a Sprint phone on a Verizon network, but they did make a big deal about their "any device" announcement in 2008, which said that they would allow you to use any CDMA phone.
1. while talk of changing esn is strickly verbotten(i believe?) if one were to find a htc hero that had somehow become corrupt and the meid had been changed to all 00000000000000000's it would be possible to fix with qxdm (the htc hero is essentially the sprint branded htc droid eris)
2. in order to activate phones on the vzw network generally one would *228 ota a cellphone, however in the ota process a vzw phones SPC is (almost)always 000000 while the hero from sprint has a SPC which is a randomly(?) generated number
3. a proper vzw PRL must be loaded to a phone in order to make calls on the vzw network
4. MDN/MIN SID must be properly programmed in order to make calls on the vzw network
5. at this point you will likely need the assistance of a nice vzw tech, as the phone will 611 to vzw, but will not make calls (afaik this is due to a-key authentication?)
if you get the right person at vzw, ask the right questions(why doesnt my vzw branded phone call?), and you have performed the other steps correctly you should have TALK and TXT within 5 min
note:
-you will still show you are roaming all the time (now ALL the time actually)
-afaik visual voicemail does not work
-if you want data expect to use WIFI or spend a good amount of time studying another VZW handsets various data settings and a good amount of time on VZW support(have not even tried this)
-neither i nor xda are responsible for what you do to your phones and as always anything you do is at your own risk!
Something wierd happended last night. I was trying to install that JIt Dalvik install by following the direction on the gumbo 1.5c. I also attempted to used the mapdroyd app Any event after a reboot I had and when it loaded no signal showed , a damaged SD card sign showed. When attempting to place a call it asked me to dial *228 nothing would result of it . Any event a reformat and install on the OS again fixed. All.Any one know of any reason why that would of happened. I was truly experimenting out of curiosity
I can, and its been done
I would like everyone to know I just spent the last 3 days figuring ALL of this out.
As my understanding is, you can change esn as long as you are and "authorized user" and your not stealing anything, therefore if I have two phones I paid for, and I have service with Verizon (which makes me and authorized user as per their TOS.)
then its not illegal. Anyways, for the sake of education it is possible.
I've swapped out my esn/meid. Transferred all my info via qxdm service programming. uploaded a verizon prl. rooted. and now im looking for a suitable Verizon based rom for the hero... I'm attempting to put a stock 2.1 eris rom on right now. (btw the phone texted and called just fine, I just want to have a complete verizon based rom for the finishing touches)
Hi Guys, I'm trying to see if there has been any luck yet with getting the EVO on metropcs network. I heard that it was possible but didn't know if this was similar to the HERO process or what. Any insight or help in the right direction is greatly appreciated.
im interested to know if it can be put on the boost mobile network!
one sold on ebay on friday. ~1200USD$
I am guessing they hacked the MEID to a known boost acceptable one.
Some people have done it with the Sprint Hero, a few got data working, I think the speeds may have been poor...can't remember. I'm having trouble finding the thread, but I believe you have to make some changes (even on the Hero) through CDMA workshop to get features to work.
Howard Forums has better info on trying to go to a different carrier. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1443845-BEFORE-YOU-ASK-POST-Read-THIS-if-you-are-a-beginner-amp-have-questions-about-flashing!
Have you called Metro PCS with your ESN and MSL? They should be able to tell you straight up if you can do it the easy way (don't think you can).

Ok,
All I did to get it to work with calls is use the MSL to load the MetroPcs Prl file to the phone. I found a guy in Miami that added the IMEI to the Metro system and activated the phone for $60. That includes the first month of service.
So, now I have an Evo working for calls and text on Metro.
I have no idea how to get the internet working.
Can someone help?

I cant help since I dont have an Evo yet to test but I came across this info that might be relevant before flashing to Metro.
Back in 2007, Metro initially only planned 3g data in 7 different cities: http://www.intomobile.com/2007/12/11/metropcs-planning-3g-service-in-seven-markets.html
Then in January of 2010, Metro decides to skip future 3g deployment in favor of LTE: http://connectedplanetonline.com/3g4g/news/metropcs-4g-leap-0113/
There's a pretty big gap in between these two announcements so I don't know how many markets Metro deployed 3g data since 2007 so I'll have to call them and find out... but I wouldn't want to be stuck on 2g for the rest of the time I had the phone (since they aren't rolling out more 3g and their 4g is LTE and not WiMax)
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong

Has anyone tried or succesfully gotten their vogue to work on this network?
their Beyond Talk plan is looking really good at $25/mon
Thank you in advance
Sadly, I've looked into that very much lol but no Virgin mobile doesn't allow any other phones but their own even if unlocked.
And even if you could somehow get it activated (which your chance is little to none) it wouldn't work on their "beyond talk plans" so far only 4 virgin mobile branded phones work on that plan all others work on their basic pay as you go service.
Boost mobile (cdma) will work fine on a vogue though.
Sorry=[ I wish it was possible.

You might consider going with a Verizon Vogue on PagePlus... otherwise the Sprint Vogue on Boost/CDMA (but that's $50/mo plus a funky manuever to get it activated...)
I have a Hero currently and would love a faster phone. The EVO is ok but too big for me. I would prefer the Incredible.
I know i can buy one for about $600 price does not matter. However I can not leave sprint. is there anyway known way to get the Incredible to work on sprint with full internet/MMS?
Just to be clear I DONT WANT THE EVO. I want the Incredible. ;-D
Please stay on topic. Im not looking for phone advice.
Thanks in advance!
No. Sprint won't add any ESNs that aren't native to their network.

getting them to register the esn is not an issue.
I would venture to say that if getting sprint to register the esn, your next task would be to flash a sprint prl.
Other than that I would imagine the phone will function with the currently available roms.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I would also need mms settings and internet settings and perhaps apn settings. I know nothing about how to do this yet.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Of course it is possible and not really that difficult although it does take a few hours to figure it out.
You will have to google for info and it will be scattered throughout the forums.
Good luck!
So if I copy all the NAM1 Settings with something like QPST from my hero And find a way to get them to use the new ESN/MEID Ill be golden..
I guess its time to talk to the Sprint rep.
Why can't you leave sprint? Might be cheaper to just pay the etf ($250 I think, or less depending on how far you are into it), and get the incredible at $200 on contract with VZ instead of the $600 for the incredible to put on sprint.
Welp
If you can stomach Sprint, then grab an EVO 4G and be done with it.
How I miss the days when you could use other cdma phones in vzw (not that i knew how to do it personally, but what are friends for?). Lucky you if youhave someone who will clear the esn for you. If i had connect like that at Verizon I'd totally have an EVO right now

I would Like to Do this also
I want to run an Incredible on sprint also... I am thinking about wiping the Incredible's ESN and replacing it with my Hero's ESN. If I accomplish this then do I also have to flash the PRI on the Incredible ?
Thanks,
Jay
I have an Incredible running flawlessly in Mexico, with Iusacell. It took me probably 5 minutes to get it running, following a Hero guide. You just have to dial ##PROGRAM and input all the changes there, the Incredible has no settings locked down.
I don't know if replacing the MEID(ESN) of the Inc is currently possible, you should check with the CDMA Workshop guys...
Has this been accomplished?
Has this been accomplished yet? I am interested in this as well. Perhaps we can get some steps? I know I don't want to get the EVO for two reasons: 1) the Incredible has an awesome form factor 2) I don't want to pay the extra $10 for 4G when I can't use it/don't need it.
This can be done, like "lamerto" I also have an incredible fully working on the Iusacell network(Mexico) and maybe the most difficult thing to do on this case is activate the meid on sprint(on Iusacell this things are easy) and maybe get the prl (in my case I can even download OTA way)
so the all the rest is a piece of cake, you have a hero, so you only have to read it with qpst, save or just copy all the parameters and then write it to the incredible (even the drivers are the same) and the only thing that is different is the meid (guessing that you're going to use the line that you have on the hero, on the dinc)
that's all this way you can have an incredible working on sprint(maybe you have to copy the mms parameters later, but that can be done even from the phone)
greetings
PD: sorry for my bad english
