General Questions...Coming over from G1

I've seen a lot of different recovery images and not sure if you need to upgrade recovery image to flash a new rom. Is there a universal spl and radio you need like the g1 had ? Here's my stats from hboot menu

Do I have the correct spl to run hero ??? I know the radio is correct I compared to the hboot on my g1 but the spl is different ? Also I'm assuming I'm rooted since I can use adb commands on the phone not sure can anyone help confirm ? All this "one click" stuff seems easy but seems more difficult to me lol at least on my g1 I had to do work and knew when something wasn't working right or not lol but any help and input i recieve is greatly appreciated thanx

what is your spl?
should be eng. spl that ends in .2005 or .2003. If you have that spl then u flash any rom u want. If you have a perfect spl that ends with .2006 (i think) u need to create a gold card and downgrade your spl to an engerneering one. As for recovery i recomend this one

O and to check if you have engneering spl, you can access fastboot by turning on your phone while holding down VOLUME DOWN and see if it lets u get access. If it does, press Back, connect to your computer through USB and flash the recovery through fastboot.

ok i used the relentless rooter but it doesn't seem to work that well I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but i flashed the spl that comes w/ that now it says

That's what happened to mine too. Good luck gettin any answers though. It's hella saddity in the sap forum. I don't think it really makes any difference. Still functions same as before. Only thing I've noticed is that I get lag now after changing my SPL.

Yea I noticed lol I usually find stuff on my own I was just hopping someone could point me in the right direction...but I'll make it happpen lol

[Q] [32A] going to old radio and keeping new spl

Hello everyone.
I used search but couldn't find it. Probably because search doesn't take under consideration 3letter words like "new", "old" and "spl".
I'm running:
sapphire pvt 32a eng s-off h
hboot-1.76.2007 (sapp10000)
cpld-12
radio-6.35.08.29
aug 21 2009, 18:19:15
1.6.2 AmonRA recovery.
Can I revert to old Radio and keep new SPL?
What should be the order of downgrade? Radio first and SPL later or the other way around?
Should I maybe downgrade them together and later upgrade SPL back to 1.76?
Any pros/cons of running old radio and new SPL? Is custom recovery a game changer in this process? Should I go back to stock recovery?

NO.. the spl and radio is a combo and cannot be interchanged.
Download my fastboot commander tool (magic version, check my signature) and it will do it for you the easy way :0)

And what if i saw in someones signature 3.22 radio and 1.76 spl ? just an error or a possibility?

Does recovery version has to be old too? Or can i just keep the new one?

You have to change your recovery too, because switching the radio alters your phones partitioning scheme, thus making the recovery crash.

[Q]Screwed up beyond belief.

Should have just left my phone alone, it was working fine the way it was. Anyway, I flashed a bad SPL/RADIO combo and things just don't work anymore. I can get on Fastboot, but when I try to use it it says "remote not allowed," horrible. So, I can't boot into recovery or regular. I'm stuck with fastboot.
I've read multiple old threads about this, but I don't know if there is any new method to fixing it? Besides getting a new phone?

Hi, I try to help if i can, it will be good if you let members know your phone details like eg. 32A or 32B o fender 1.2, current radio and spl. What you did to flash the radio and spl. Do you have androidsdk on your computer coz you can push thru adb while your phone is in fastboot mode. Can also try searching using the keyword "unbrick" thru the general thread. Hope this helps.

Your not bricked. Need all your information from fastboot.

I have the sdk and other various tools. I flashed the wrong combo and tried to repair with sappimg.zip. It restored me to the current settings above.
Before I was:

sounds like your have a Magic 32a. You flashed a perfected SPL of 1.33.0013 which is only for 32b/mytouch 1.2 32a hybrids. This SPL does not have ability for fastboot. You will need to either flash your new SPL via recovery or via Goldcard.

I'm going to try the goldcard method.
Update: How would I get the CID for my phone through Fastboot?

You can't get the SD card CID from fastboot. Man did you screw up. First and foremost you have a myTouch 1.2 which there is a stickied thread on the first page about. Secondly, you screwed yourself trying to use the sappimg. You had an engineering SPL before so you could have just flashed the correct SPL/radio combo from fastboot and would have been good to go. Now you'll have to make a goldcard and flash a new sappimg that will flash back a 32A SPL thatbis compatible with that radio, and then flash the correct ones. I've only seen that done once by mumilover but he hasn't been around for a while and I don't know when he'll be back. Still go ahead and make the goldcard. You'll need to borrow a working Android phone from someone to do that part.

You need a few things.
1. goldcard
2. A sappimg.zip with a higher version than what you have with an Eng spl. (Preferably for 32b)
3. Time, patience
4. Luck
All of these are easy to find or get besides time, patience, and luck

Im currently looking for sappimg.zip that contains the required criteria. I will post after flash attempt...

I forgot to mention a common occurance since I lost custom recovery and custom rooted rom, ect.
the "goldcard-sappimg-flash" process freezes or hangs at [4] SYSTEM during the unzipping portion

As you have MT3G v1.2 / Fender - it is too hard to restore your phone after your faulty actions. You bricked your phone, when flashed inappropriate hboot and radio

That post seems to be talking about mismatched radio and spl. His match, but are the wrong ones. He should be able to flash a sappimg.zip to get an Eng spl and fix from there

Ironically, the thread you have suggested is the first thread I followed to configure my device for the "carz" latest custom rom.
Is there a way around the "unzipping hang" that happens during system partition portion of RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_3.05.631.7_R_release_signed_NoDriver flash? I have also tried the goldcard method with extracted rom.zip of the mentioned RUU rom with same result.

Yeah, but solution is same. Sure, he can start from step 2, cause he has combo without mismatch between hboot and radio already.
And yes, should flash 2.53.707.2 to get special combo with eng spl and then return to stock.

I was having problems rooting my Rogers HTC Magic+. I used this method and it worked like a charm to get root, Eng SPL. After that I was able to flash custom recovery and ROMS.
The ROM in my Signature works really well.

Flash the original "RRU", then root with androot.apk from market, install rommanager from market and flash recovery, reboot recovery and flash the ENG spl

[Q] Is it possible to downgrade 1.33.0014 to 1.33.0013?

Can I downgrade from HBOOT-1.33.0014 to HBOOT-1.33.0013.
After updating hboot through HTC Unlock Bootloader hoping for benefits, now I can't flash some ROMs because not being at least 1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d.
How can I revert to original spl?

Solved!
1. Relocked the bootloader in fastboot using: fastboot oem lock.
2. Download misc-edited.img

3. Copy misc-edited.img to sdcard
4. With Rom Manager installed type this in a terminal emulator.
# /data/data/com.koushikdutta.rommanager/files/flash_image misc /sdcard/misc-edited.img
5. After that use the stock-sappimg.zip. Rename it to sappimg.zip and copy it to the sdcard.

6. Turn off the phone and then press volume down + power button until bootloader shows. It should pick up the sappimg.zip and flash it.

Thanks, this is a tricky device and I don't have a clear idea in how to accomplish that in a safe environment. Do you think it's worth the chance? What are the practical benefits in doing so? For now I only know one bonus using ENG SPL in this device and that is erasing everything from fastboot (for that I use superwipe) but flashing still not possible, all other good commands are still excluded.
Please, make me wrong and make me a gift with your guidance.

Heh, I was just joking. What you really get with S-OFF and an ENG SPL are more ways to fix things and more ways to break things.
With S-OFF, the phone won't check the signatures of things you flash using HBOOT or fastboot, so you can get the phone to flash something that's been modified... but you can already do that if you have a custom recovery.
With ENG SPL, you can change just about every setting in the phone and access all of the fastboot commands without getting "remote not allow"... But, again, most of the things that you'd want to do (flashing a custom ROM) can be done with the custom recovery.
And, if I remember correctly, if you use an ENG SPL on a myTouch 1.2, you lose half of your available RAM, at least until you go back to a magic SPL.
I suggest making your life easy and not doing any of these things

Yes, using anything but 1.33.0013(d) spl and a newer radio will decrease available ram (by 18mb on 32b, and half on 1.2), and will break headphone Jack and other stuff on the 1.2 until you flash back.
Is that my misc-edited btw? just checked md5sums, seems to be. glad to see someone actually made use of it. you now have all the benefits of a goldcard, without going through the complicated process of making one.
Also, roms can probably be easily updated to support 1.33.0014 ), most likely a 1 line edit to the updater-script

Pmerced, could you dump your current misc partition for me? I have never had the opportunity to look at what happened to my edits after an update.

You can't flash from fastboot on this device unless you have an eng spl.
The normal process of getting a custom rom on the dream/sapphire is first rooting your stock rom, then flashing a recovery from there. Then you update radio/spl as needed and flash a rom.
I have never messed with the 1.33.0014 spl, but from what I've heard, it gives no benefit, just headache.
