Xfire live videos - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

It's not another post about if it's possible to have xfire messenger on wm but this: http://www.xfire.com/live_video/
I don't know if I'm the only one but I never been able to have flash active x working on my uni, nor ie, nor opera.
Actually even the application to play youtube movies on the uni don't work for me, but I guess it should.
So, is there a way to make a web browser play flash things, or edit some lines in the youtube application to play thoses movies, or something else to make it work ?
So far the only way I found is to use remote desktop, which give 0,8fps and a very low quality sound.

Try using skyfire... just google or search over here, it's a freeware and plays flash videos flawlessly...

Thanks a lot, since I tryed netfront which wasn't able to play this, I though it would be the same for all browsers.
Though, I can't put movies into full screen, nor with the virtual cursor of skyfire, nor with fakecursor (my touch screen is dead), are you able to ?

well it doesn't support fullscreen,,,, but i mostly use zoom button to make it somewhat around the display size and focus on that part only... you can hide the top and bottom bar ... somewhat like full screen.... the only browser that supported fullscreen playback was mach5... which is not a freeware...

since i am facing the same problem 1,5 year later is there a solution to view streaming viedeos using either a newer macromedia version (i read something aboute flash lite 3) or something else using the internet explorer?
i did try to go to m.youtube.com and didnt manage to view any videos there also.
The only solution i have so far is to use the vtap program but i can't seem to view a small photo of the video before downloading it and also i cant fast farward it when it plays. This is why i am asking if there is a solution like for streaming videos from the S200. All i want is to view the videos like i view them from my pc . is ti so dificult?
(ps i am still on wm5)
thx in advance for any answer
nada????
oh well
it wasn/t so dificult after all.......
It just needed a lot of searching....
YOUTUBE is possible on pocket IE after all (and on WM5)
here is the solution (if there is anybody like me who didnt know it allready)
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=148801
for youtube i just go to
http://ytpocket.com/
it emulates the youtube website and making it streaming with tcpmp. all the instructions are there as well the plugins needed are within the website.

YouTube video - what's the best solution?

When I go to www.youtube.com in Pocket IE, it automatically re-directs to "m.youtube.com". So far so good - everything comes up including the thumbnails. Click on any thumb and you get the expected screen including "Watch Video". BUT ... clicking on that produces an error screen that says "Running a system command on this item might be unsafe. Do you wish to continue?"
Clicking YES only results is a "rtsp ... 3gp" file can NOT be opened.
So, how did this guy back on June 18, 2007 do it on the Touch as shown in this video ??
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3930
I thought that the Sprint Touch supports 3GPP streaming out-of-the-box ?
streaming media
You need a program called HTC streaming media. Just Google it.
Streaming YouTube on WM6 (Touch included I'd assume)

second for VTAp. Has videos from all google videos, youtube, and a few other places. Its like connected so its updated the same rate the sites are updated as well. Its just overall great!
i think it s!
is any1 having trouble? i did the ytpocket and when visit youtube on PIE my phone pretty much freezes up...
vTap works great ... thanks for the input !!
vtap is the best that is what im using. works like a charm.
i tried vTap and its okay, but the thing that pisses me off are the load times and the ****ty quality. so i went with typocket.com, they have 2 easy installs that take less than a minute, with GREAT FULL SCREEN quality and super fast load times, almost seems like its streaming
so give ytpocket.com
I've got ytpocket and tcpmp installed. Some reason all videos are very choppy, sound is clean but video looks like its refreshing slowly (like if you don't have the proper video card drivers installed on your pc thats how it looks) Its not buffering or anything.
Are there any tweaks I have to apply to get better video frame rate?

Another good option
I have used vTap and I though it was very good, although I had to put up with a lot of wait icons.
I have been experimenting with this option... http://www.avotmedia.com/ and it has been quite usable so far. Video is very smooth and I have not had one single wait icon while using this program.
Check it out. I originally heard about here or PPCG, one of the two.

How to watch YouTube Videos!

Did you know that there is an easy way to stream youtube videos from PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) using TCPMP? You just click the video and a menu pops up so you can choose if you want to watch or download the video, works just like on your pc.
Check it out here: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1319431&postcount=1
By the way, it is very important to download the FlashVideoBundle.CAB provided on the site. I used another version and it didnt start any videos, only timed out after a while. Then I downloaded FlashVideoBundle.CAB from site and it worked like a charm.
You would also need to install the FLV plug in for TCPMP if you dont already have it, you can download it from this site: http://tcpmp-plugin-for-flash-video.softonic.de/windowsmobile
Remember to use Internet Explorer, it will not work in Opera!
Good Luck!
I know this Youtube plugin for PIE with TCPMP 0.72 from Hermes.
Does play google video and others too.
Working great, if not working after some time Youtube changed something on their site and you'll have to install the updated plugin. Newest version is 1.44 by now.

I have been spending the last hour or so testing out vTap and here is what I have found.
1. The Video quality is poor compared to the direct streaming solution with TCPMP.
2. I am unable to find any way to download videos, which I think is a great disadvantage!
3. Not all videos that shows up in the search query works!
However, vTap is defenetley a very fast and usable program. It performs very quick searches and the conversions are quick! I also like the wikipedia function.
I think however that this program is better suitable for devices with smaller screens and less cpu power, I will test and see how it performs on my "HTC Touch" before I can say that for sure tough, I will let you guys know as soon as I can!
But as far as viewing and downloading videos on my "Athena" goes I think I will stick to the first method that I mentioned!
Branko, I'm not sure why this keeps happening, but I would go a minute or two into the clip and it will just freeze. I saw this posted on another thread. So I came here, downloaded the version you linked to....yet the same thing. Is there a setting I need to change or something?
I have the two files in TCPMP, I dowload the latest version Flashbundlepackage, and I'm using IE to play the clip.
I will go to google full, select the first video just to test, and will pull up TCPMP but after a minute.....FREEZE.
thanks for the links though!!!

If the video starts without a problem and then freezes after a while then it cant be a problem with the codec, dont quote me on that tough.
What I would check if I was you is if the video freezes even if you download it to the device and play from there, if it doesnt freeze when playing from device it´s probably a slow connection or problem with youtubes site for the moment. (Happens alot!)
If it freezes even when you have downloaded it, I would try to reinstall the TCPMP and all the codecs!
Please tell me how it goes!!

Ok, so I have been playing with vTap on my little "HTC Touch" now for a few hours, and I can confirm that the program INDEED is better suitable for small screen devices with less CPU power!
Anyway thats my opinion, it´s for everyone to decide for them selfs what they want to use in the end!
So let´s hear it guys, what is your prefered method on Athena?
Thanks Branko,
After I reinstalled all of the codecs, it continued to freeze. So tried to adjust some of the settings, still to no avail. Then i noticed that I want to view it in "fullscreen". So I decided to to let it play with out "fullscreen". Behold, the problem was fixed.
Literally, if i keep it in the un-fullscreen mode (not sure what its called) it plays just fine. Its one of those things I wouldnt have figured out at all.
So there we go, atleast a fix on my end, is to watch all of the playable clips in the un-fullscreen mode and it will play just fine. I assume that if the file is small enough, I can download and play in fullscreen mode.
Thanks alot for your help Branko
You should be able to play in full screen mode too!

What do you use to play Youtube videos?
Is there any more programs or ways to play videos from "youtube" and other sites? Please share!
I have just voted and then read the thread - I am the only one who has voted for vTap!
I must admit, I am only an occasional user of youtube and love vTap's simplicity (and the wikipedia search) and for my usage it works fine, especially given the complexity of the alternatives.
Different people want different things - I want something simple (like me).
Good luck in finding your ideal solution!

Guys,
Technology for youtube on Athena has already moved on beyond recognition recently. I don't use TCPMP anymore.
You could use youtubeplayer from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227
Youtubeplayer 1.0.7 lets you download and save the files.
Or Coreplayer, the latest version 1.2.4 lets you watch but not to save it yet. Of course, it can aso play flv files previously saved.
If you're not using realVGA or only using 192dpi, both the above user interface are very nice. If you're using 96dpi, then coreplayer's interface is the most beautiful.
If you want to do a little more indepth research to understand why coreplayer is one of the best way to go at the moment, read this "youtube bible":
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/index.php?q=blogs/3/2599
Thanks

Same here with HTC Youtube on my Sprint Vogue. It's first screen is really nice, shows neat little summaries. But when one is selected to play, ugh! First of all, the player goes left handed on me, sort of upside down. And the aspect ratio of the area for video is rediculously w-i-d-e screen. Worst of all, it just freezes, curable only via soft reset.
So, my use of HTC Youtube is only to pick out a video. Next, I open up youtubeplay, enter keywords from HYt, and then download the FLV file rather than viewing it. Once D/L'd, I use TCPMP to play it nice and smooth, sync'd too.
Youtubeplay is available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227&highlight=youtubeplay
And TCPMP here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387&highlight=TCPMP
Works perfect for me. First install the app, then the ravest fix.
I've found that the least troublesome way to use flash is to use Skyfire (mobile browser), plays pretty much any flash file inside the browser. It's also free.
http://www.skyfire.com/
http://www.opera.com/mobile/
You can also fire up Opera Mobile Ver 9.5 or higher and simply install the You Tube Widget.

HD2 Youtube app is crap!

On my laptop and desktop, I can find official music videos of songs quite easily, but on the youtube app on the HD2, it's very difficult, seems like the searches are filled more with chipmunk versions of the songs that I am searching for.
So what I'm testy about is that the youtube app on the hd2 seems to be filtered so that you can't easily find the good official music videos.
I'm sure it runs tip tops for most of the users and I'm sure this topic will get 100,000 views without a single reply, but I just felt like making it aware that the youtube app is crippled.
That is all.
Haven't used it much to look for music videos, so I'll take your word for it. But for what I've used it for, it's fine. I don't like that it doesn't open if someone sends a link to you on an email or text, wish they would fix that.

I feel you! That has happend to me a few times. If someone talks about a youtube video on twitter or something it is a pain in the ass to find unless I know the title literally word for word. Also..It does work really well if I am bored and just want to watch some videos. So It doesnt not suck that bad
It sucks for channels too. I have added several to mine, It does not sort channel videos by post date, I follow several that post a few a week and vlogs would prefer the most recent to be at the top, I cannot seem to figure out the sort pattern it is using, it just seems to randomly select videos from the channel.
When i got the HD2 i thought id shift alot of my youtube viewing to it and get away from the PC, however that youtube app makes for so much work to try and find a channel's most recent video posts that i almost never use the app.
Really all its good for is viewing the "most popular" or "newest" videos that come up on the very 1st screen of the app, or if you know of an EXACT title to search for
The youtube app in the marketplace seems to do a better job with sorting vids, but its a piece of crap to use on the HD2, video quality is horrible. I dont know why there are 2 different versions of the youtube app

Yeah, If you get a youtube url from an email or text, it should open up the youtube app, how hard can it be to set it up like that? It's the littlest things like this that add up.
Like for example, I just youtube'd on my laptop "Like a G6 Far East Movement" and got their official music video, I did the exact same thing right now on my HD2 using the youtube app and it said "No Videos Found".
Something is filtering the HD2's search queries.

Just answered my own question looking at the about info on the HD2 youtube app, its written by HTC, whereas the marketplace one i believe is written by youtube.
The HTC app is great for viewing if they could just get the searching and the sorting of channel videos straightened out
If I use Opera to search the phrases that find the videos on my laptop, it will find them just fine on youtube.com, but my Opera version has no flash and I don't like Internet Explorer on the HD2. Oh well, It works fine, just doesn't find the official music videos some times, does a damn good job at finding the chipmunk versions of the songs I search for.
I wonder if this is a youtube/copyright issue...Hmmmmm conspiracy!

I forget the name of the addon, but there is one that uses the IE browser's flash plugin in opera and it works decently well with youtube. I tried it for awhile, but hated that whatever the addon does it must change the browsers user agent string because the "my account" features no longer work because it cant detect it as a mobile browser.
The addon here here on XDA, some searching aught to find it. I dont have a URL handy
Of course when you remove the addon it does not seem to reset the browsers useragent string to the opera default one. I ended up having to hardreset my phone to get everything working as it was prior.
Youtube and Youtube Mobile are two very different things. Youtube Mobile uses streaming .3gp media, while regular Youtube is flash based.
When a video is uploaded to Youtube, it has to be converted to .3gp format in order for most mobile phones to play it. Obviously when your talking millions and millions of uploads some videos get passed over. Go to www.m.youtube.com in your desktop browser and search for something, you'll see the same results you get on mobile.
Solution: download Skyfire and use real Youtube: problem solved.
Hope this helps.
~Jasecloud4
Judging by the video quality of the videos in the HTC youtube app, im pretty sure it is pulling the .mp4 video files from youtube. Youtube by default serves up the videos on their website in .flv and .mp4. If you use firefox install a plugin called "DownloadHelper" and you'll see the videos available. Each youtube video page has about 6-8 different .flv/.mp4 files linked to it of differing video qualities. When youtube is completely unstreamable in the evenings, ill use downloadhelper to queue up downloads of the .mp4 files of videos i want to watch, and then just sit and watch them all using media player classic from the klite mega codec pack once they all finish downloading. using the .mp4 files and media player classic also has the benefit of being less of a resource hog. flash video playback will peg my CPU at 100% the whole time. the .mp4/MPC combo usually stays under 50%
I think the official youtube app in the marketplace, and the youtube.com that pulls up in mobile browsers uses the .3gp format which looks like utter crap on our HD2s.
agree... it's slow sometimes...
It's been like this on just about every phone I've had. They should really look into making it better, it bothers me as well
App download
Try downloading the app called skyfire it is a browser that activates the adobe flash features & plays better movies

Yup thats it, like i said though it changes something, likely the browser's user agent string, so the t-mobile my account webpage will say that you need to use a mobile browser to access this site. basically i think they've changed the user agent string to emulate a desktop browser so sites like youtube will load the full real youtube site and not the mobile version by default.
I wish that addon would leave the user agent string alone, because its not much trouble to scroll down to the bottom of the youtube mobile site and choose to view the desktop version, which i believe it remembers until you clear your cookies anyways so you dont have to deal with it that often

Yeah it does change the user agent in the registry. I found a key in "HKLM/Opera/Prefs/User Prefs/Custom User-Agent" that contains the agent I picked in the fixOperaFlash app. I wonder if one could simply insert the original agent string back (or delete the custom key entirely) with the flash bits still working properly?
Edit: Confirmed, I nuked the above key entirely. Started opera and it had reverted to it's stock user agent. Went to youtube, scrolled to the bottom and clicked the desktop link, then plugged in a video that I know is not available on youtube mobile, worked great. Tmo MyAccount seems to work properly as well.
i just want it to run like it does on android, when i was using my g1 i would search for videos on the browser and all the videos would pop up just like on a computer that wouldnt pop up on the g1 youtube app, then i would click it and play it through the youtube app just fine and great quality. They should of made it like that and i remember someone on this forum told me there was a regedit that you could do to make it do that on this phone but i dont know if you have to flash a new rom or get it from this forum or not.

I have noticed that on the app videos don't appear at the same time as on the desktop version, they appear like 6 hours later...besides that everything looks good.
