Hero, EAS, Syncing - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have an Hero which is connecting to FirstClass server via EAS.
Contacts sync fine both ways.
Calendar events sync good from the device to the server, but going the other way they don't
The logs for FC show that when it enumerates the items it is also adding them, but they don't show in the calendar.
I'm wondering if they are failing to be created by the device.
Is there a log on the device that I could see if it illuminates any light on this problem?

Syncing with Exchange Server and PC

I know this is prob a daft question...
Am I right in thinking if my Universal is syncing the Contacts, Appointments, Tasks and E-mails with my Exchange server. Then its not possible to make it sync Contacts, Appointments and Tasks with another PC that isn't connected to the same Exchange Server?
I know this may sound daft, but I could really do with my Appointments ETC from my work pc on my Universal.
Thanks,
David.
I'd like to understand this as well.
I have a XDA Exec and a Wizard connecting to a paid for exchange account for my contacts etc. However on my Exec I also have Activesync set to sync my contacts with two PCs (work and home laptop) whereas on my Wizard I cannot have multiple selections for calender, just syncing with exchange.
This is a real mystery to me and I would really like to understand exchange syncing a little and how best to set up my two devices and various PCs I want to sync with.
Sync Contacts, Calendar and Tasks with 2 Exchange
Heya.
I used my home ExchangeServer for Pushmail (not only mail; calendar, tasks and contacts also).
In addition to my home exchange i synced my office exchange with the same phone. Worked without real problems.
You need to change following registry-value on the phone:
1. Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync
2. Change the value EnableNonLocalcrossPollination from 0 to 1
3. Now you can check your second calendar, tasks and contacts, but only in ActiveSync on the Phone
Now the greyed-out fields (see attachment) aren't greyed-out anymore...
On your computer you can't do this settings...
But there are two issues:
- you can only sync the mails from one of the both accounts
- you need to sync the second account by usb-cable...
Best Regards
Peter

Syncing With Multiple Sources??

Hi,
Looking for some advise and hopefully some useful suggestions... have spent hours searching forums, google, M$, etc, etc....
The story begins....
Recently upgraded from my XDA IIi to the shiny XDA trion (HERMES) - moved to WM6 and had to upgrade to ActiveSync (AS) 4.5.
All fine and dandy to here.... (and most excellent I must add!)
Now - I have two PCs - home and work. Both locations have their own exchange server. (Work Exchange and Home Exchange)
Email - I sync via the exchange server at work and has no problems from either location connecting via AS 4.5 to the exchange server for the mail. (I am only interested in getting my work emails on the device).
Calandar and Contacts - I used to be able to sync both PCs to the XDA IIi via AS 4.1 meaning that if I ever added a calandar entry while at home, it would update the phone and when I next connected to my work PC, it would then place it there. (And Visa Versa). This also worked for my contacts, notes, tasks, etc. Consequently, I was able to know that I had the most up to date contacts, calander entries, etc on the phone, as well as on both PCs when I next connected the phone to them. So it didn't matter at which location I was sitting - I would be up to date and not miss appointments...
However, AS 4.5 helpfully tells me that I am already syncing my calandar / contacts / whatever somewhere else and must deselect this first (and remove all of the data) before it would allow me to connect with a different source. Rather frustrating.
Now, I don't know if there is an easier way to achieve the results I am looking for (can I point my home exchange server at the work one and have them sync and then I just sync to the one?) or if I am just making things difficult for myself..?? Surely I am on the only person out there who may like to keep to calandars across different PCs in sync? (I also don't want to use an internet based webservice like googlecalandar, etc).
Any ideas / suggestions / advise / hacks on how I can get it back to how I could work previously?
Thanks!.
MJ.
Okay, let me try to help. You don't have to deselect any of the Exchange items. Just select the items on the local desktop that you will be syncing. When you sync at home, you will see exchange items grouped being synced and a 2nd group on your desktop also being synced. Going into AS on the device will provide a last sync status for exchange and any partnerships you have.
Here is my setup:
I sync Email, Calendar, and Contacts via Exchange Server at work (this is done wirelessly).
I sync Tasks through a 3rd party app and notes at work on my desktop (this is a partnership in AS 4.5)
I sync calendar, contacts, quicken, etc... at home (partnership in AS4.5)
You'll notice that my device is syncing contacts and calendar between exchange and my home PC when it's connected and any changes on the device, exchange are mirrored immediately and at home when I sync it. Actually when I sync it at home I think it winds up being slow sometimes because it's by default syncing with the home desktop as well as pushing that info back to the exchange server at work.
Now, as to syncing with 2 exchanges - you'll probably have to choose one and then sync the other via a partnership. Not sure you can set up 2 servers.
Hope that helps.

Outlook contacts won't sync after upgrade

Ever since I "upgraded" to dcd 3.2.6, I can no longer sync with Outlook contacts. The only thing that syncs is Outlook calendar. Under sync-settings the contacts box is greyed out. Even if I uninstall/reinstall active sync and establish a new relationship I still cannot transfer contacts. Also, under "Getting Started" it says I need a CD rom to transfer contacts. What CD are they referring to?
Any ideas?
How many parternships does your phone use? I can only seem to get one parternship + exchange to work on mine, if I try to sync with a second PC, it only lets me sync files and notes. Not sure if it's related, but you might try removing all partnerships from both your PC and your phone and then create a new one and see what happens.

How do I remove a partnership on my phone? I removed all partnerships on my PC via activesync. How do I do it on the phone as well?
Thanks for the reply!
Open Active Sync, Click on Menu and then Options (this is on the phone) and it will show any partnerships including your exchange settings, it will also show what items are currently set to sync with each partnership, you can either delete the whole partnership or just adjust whats getting synced, turn off contacts on all of the ones that don't need it and turn it on for the one you are working on and it should become available, if that doesn't work, delete the partnerships and try again. If it still doesn't work, then something is misconfigured on your PC, default contact program, etc, something is wrong.

I ran into a problem similar to this when trying to Sync WM6.1 with 2 PCs. WM6.1 has a security "feature" that prevents syncing with multiple PC's; it has "non-local cross pollination" disabled.
It will Sync if you change a registry setting located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination to "1" instead of "0". As long as you're not trying to Sync to the same Exchange server from two different PC's (or your Outlook default files have the same name), it will work fine.
More info here: http://www.bitshift.ch/eng/support/kbase/000003.asp
I ran into this exact problem the article describes. I have an exchange linked account at work and I use an OTA exchange link with Mail2Web, and a stand along Outlook at home. It won't let me sync Contacts, Calendar and tasks with all 3, only 2 at one time. I will test this and see how it works.

Help with sync setup

Hello all, I would really appreciate some guidance on how to properly setup my syncing.
Today I sync my Hero (3G stock) with Outlook 2007 on my Win XP home computer with HTC sync, and also with my Exchange account at work (HTC sync -> Outlook on Mac via VMware). And of course the phone in its turn synchronizes with the Google cloud. And as an extra bonus I'm running Google Calendar Sync at the home computer. This goes for calendar and contacts, the mails I don't sync at all.
This results in having:
1. Multiple entries of every item, i.e on the phone I have one contact entry called "phone" and one duplicate called "Google" for every contact I have. Same for the calendar.
2. By syncing with 2 different computers I always gets some conflicts when doing the synchronization and I usually have to run every sync 2-3 times before it's complete.
Sorry for being unclear, would like to sort this out. How have you set it up? I thought about skipping the HTC sync at work and running only Google Calendar Sync, but it turns out my company's firewall is blocking this.
Well, no response here, but for further reference I can write down that I have solved it so far by deleting all "Phone" items on the Hero and to sync the calendar with Google Calendar Sync, and for the contacts I use a service called Soocial (www.soocial.com) which seems pretty nice.

How Do I Sync Outlook and Vibrant?

Hi, all.
The manual for Vibrant, beginning on Page 120, talks about using Samsung Kies to sync files between the PC and Vibrant. I downloaded Kies version 1.5.1.10071_32 through samsungapps.com. Installed no problem on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I've got 32-bit Outlook 2010 installed.
I enabled the USB connection through Kies on my phone. Drivers installed no problem when the phone was connected through USB.
First time using Kies, contacts sync'd up just fine. Calendar, not so much. Nothing sync'd.
Subsequent attempts to connect the phone sometimes hangs Kies. When the connection is successful, and I attempt to sync, my entire calendar will be imported into Kies, but only a few of the appointments get into the phone. Sometimes no appointments get into the phone. There's no rhyme or reason to what makes it, what doesn't, and it varies from attempt to attempt.
I live and die by Outlook, and trying to make the move to Gmail won't work for me.
Let me add something here. I don't like clouds. Clouds conjure up visions of rain, darkness, thunder and lightning, wind, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Scary stuff. That's why I'm not too big on using Gmail to sync the phone. It also doesn't work real well when the rest of the business world relies on Outlook. For the time being, I've exported my contacts and calendar to CSV DOS files, then uploaded them to Gmail. This is what I have to do everytime I want to update my phone, and it's a pain in the butt.
Even though my US Vibrant manual says to use Kies to sync the phone, the Samsung Apps website makes no indication of any support for US phones, and says my country is not supported by the site. Of the phones listed for other countries (including Canada and the United Kingdom), the Galaxy S is not listed.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any third party apps that work well?
Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions.
I am assuming you're using Outlook without an Exchange server? This phone syncs just fine if you have an Exchange server.

Right. No Exchange server.
One other thing.
The initial contacts sync works great, subsequent contacts sync hangs at 35%, forced close, then a re-sync destroys the contact list.
I have the same problem. Coming from an Iphone this is the only downside I found with Android.
My Iphone was able to sync outlook (contacts, calendar and notes) + my internet favorites.
Now I use
- KIES for sync my contacts
- google sync to sync my calendar
I didn't found a way to sync my notes or my IE favorites
Still searching
Otherwise there is some third party soft like CompanionLink but they cost $$
Another option for you if you use GMail as your mail provider (via Outlook) is to use Google Calendar Sync. It will sync your Outlook Calendar with your GMail Calendar, which would then automatically Sync with your Android device. That's how I've been doing it since I've had my G1 and it's worked great...no need to plug in and sync anything.

Google Calendar Sync does not yet work with Outlook 2010.

I've been doing the same thing for over a year via OutLook. I just set it up at work as a Scheduled Task and it runs 30minutes before I go home. Keeps the IT guys off my back if they happen to look at my Task Bar and see thing odd running.
TouchDown
I am testing out a trial version of Exchange TouchDown by NitroDesk.
I am not able to post the link but you can google it.
It syncs email, contact, calendar and tasks via USB for stand alone Outlook as well as OTA sync to your Exchange mailbox. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you.
I have a different issue... Outlook 2003. I start out with all contacts LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. I sync and all of my contacts last and first names are now transposed in my PC. Now they show FIRST NAME, LAST NAME. It isn't just a function of 'sorting' for when I click on a contact on my PC, the contact's first and last names have actually swapped.
Anybody else experiencing this or have any suggestions? I really like this phone but the absolute lack of being able to update contacts via USB sync (do not like the cloud idea AT all either) is making me think about returning it. Thanks!
