Surf the web and call at the same time. - Mogul, XV6800 General

before 6.1 wm i was able to surf web and call people but now it cant surf until the converstaions done. can anyone help?

I don't think the mogul was ever capable of using both radios at the same time. Whether it was 6.0 or 6.1, I've never been able to.

It isnt possible with any CDMA device. Only gsm modulations can do data and voice at the same time.

I used to also
I gotta say way back about 3 yrs ago I used to be able to surf and talk on my 6700...everyone says the same thing not possible but I did.

Maybe with wifi? I've never tried that, maybe that'll work. But no CDMA device can do data and voice at the same time (currently).

Enable calls while on EVDO

Question for you guys,
I never noticed until my girlfriend tried to call me. I was streaming videos on youtube on my touch from Telus mobility and my line was just ringing, not going to my phone. Is there anyone that knows how to enable this? I tried looking online but codes for other phones like the apache dont work.
Thanks,
e
I was trying it out on my Bell HTC touch and it works fine (was on IE browsing and called my cell and it came through)
How exactly are you viewing the YT videos? Could be the application your using.
Im using TCPMP and flash media bundle. Found it on PPCGeeks
I don't think that the CDMA Touch can handle concurrent voice & data radios.
Meaning - it is either one or the other.
If you are browsing the internet, and a call comes through, it will drop the data radio and enable voice. Your example of the browsing and a call coming through is an example of this.
Try talking on the phone and then surfing to a new site in PIE. You can't.

100% true, it can do 1 or the other not both
definetly not true...my bell htc touch works while surfing the net, it just switches from the EVDO network to the 1X, and it doesnt just keep ringing...so im not sure about sprint but the bell service allows for them to b working at the same time...
good luck

NOT TRUE AT ALL! I confirmed (as you can see in my post above) that it receives calls even if your in between a data session.
I know on regular 1x phones they are not able to do this but this is a feature of EV-DO where it allows a phone call to come in even while surfing or using data.
To the OP, are you in 1x data mode or ev-do?
K so ive been testing it, while surfing and actually going through links and receiving a call they dont go through as well as streaming. But if Im on a page and not doing anything but reading whats on the page the call comes through. And I am on Ev-DO
From what I understand, if and when Sprint/Bell/Telus upgrades the rom to support EVDO Rev.A, then you can have voice and data concurrently. I find when I am surfing, it really depends on the timing of the call on whether it rings or not. If you are actively downloading data (streaming, accessing a page), then the phone will not ring. If you are just reading/viewing a page after it has fully downloaded, then your phone will ring.
Hi Guys,
I got the Telus HTC Touch about a week ago, and I went through the same thing. I called Telus's tech support as well as HTC's, I kept getting the run around; Telus was telling me it's an HTC issue, and HTC telling me it's Telus's issue, until I finally spoke to an admin in Telus' tech dept and he told me it's a know issue that will not be fixed anytime soon.
The only time this happens is when the data connection is "active" i.e. it's downloading something, so if you are streaming, the call will never go through to the phone, it will go the voice mail and your won't get a missed call notice on the phone. If browsing the net, and IE has finished loading the page, the data connection is "idle" and the call will go through.
I have read on a forum that there is a way to fix this by accessing the Data Programming screen using ##8323# and chaging the priority to voice from the default data priority, but I was not ableto access that with my phone.
I am still hoping to find a hack for this; for now I call-forward my HTC to my Blackberry when I know I will be using the internet heavily so I won't miss any calls.
TRY ##DDTM# thats how its done on my sprint touch

Ludester - can you try this again?
I know that if you are surfing and a call comes through - you can get the call and answer it. That's what I said in my reply. That's because the phone drops the data connection and enteres the voice connection. If you jump back to PIE - then your previous cached page pops up.
But, try calling your handset from your home phone. Answer it. Leave the line open. (you may want to stand a few feet away from your landline to avoid feeback).
Now, while you have an active voice connectoin from home phone to cell phone, Open PIE and try and start browsing to a new page not cached.
Does it give you a message?
My understanding is that Rev0 doesnt do simultaneous voice and data. Actually i dont think RevA will either, although capable by technology, Sprint's implimentation wont allow it. Only way to get voice and data simultaneous right now is use HSDPA on GSM it does both at the same time currently.
I would love to have concurrent voice and data. I just don't think Rev0 has that feature and don't believ ewe will see Sprint's implementation of this feature through the RevA update either. I surely hope to be proven wrong on this - because that is indeed a desired state for me.
just yesterday i tried going to the other way... while on a call, i tried to access live search to map an address. the call was disconnected.
today i tried to launch internet explorer while on a call and i get a message to 'end the current call... blah, blah'

Same here on Bell.
I was streaming music on EVDO network. When I called my Touch, it started to ring. At that moment music streaming stopped and Touch switched to 1X network. When I ended this conversation, Touch switched back to EVDO and music streaming resumed automatically.

For voice as priority should it be enabled or disabled? Sprint Touch.
i believe that all issues with cellphone internet blocking or being disabled when one recieve a call is purely an issue
with old and poor quality equipment of the cellphone operator in the area

You have to call, on a telus touch, ##778 and you gotta have your MSL code to edit things... But I haven't found anywhere that priority you're talking about...
I thought EVDO Rev 0 (like the one Telus is using for now) cannot handle data and voice connection at the same time... It is different for EVDO Rev.A, I've seen that on wiki I think
I had this problem until I realized I had changed my settings to "Force HDR" mode which only took advantage of EVDO.
I changed it back to Automatic switching (at the expense of battery life, however) and tested it out by running Sprint TV and having another phone call and it worked.
I checked the ##DDTM# and it was already disabled.
I've had the same issues... including the girlfriend being pissed off because her calls always went to VM. The problem is related to what network you're using.
The link below explains in details what networks allow both data and voice at the same time:
http://support.wmwifirouter.com/knowledge/KB0802013/
This should be all you guys need.
-YACO

data connect = incoming calls straight to VM

so i just noticed this today (i have the leaked ROM installed) that when i am using the web or checking my email if someone calls they go straight to my voice mail -- i haven't had the phone long enough to know if this is how it is supposed to be or not. Is there a way to get to cancel the data connection and show me someone is calling?

no, not really, at least not for those of us who use push email, since it maintains a constant data connection to the exchange server

well i read through that and tried what they mentioned but i couldn't get it to drop the data when a call came in.
btw, i'm on Sprint, and no EVDO where i am at so only 1x.
but as i mention in the thread
"i believe that all issues with cellphone internet blocking or being disabled when one recieve a call is purely an issue
with old and poor quality equipment of the cellphone operator in the area"
many old gsm and aparently american cellphone networks too
suffer from not being able to handle both network and calls at the same time
it's an issue in the operator end not the phones
yeah after three emails with sprint (i think most of their CS people are brain dead) they finally told me that it is how it works, no way around it.
one told me that calls go to voice mail when you don't have enough signal -- totally irrelevent to this issue
one told me it was a technical problem with my phone and said i should bring it to a sprint store to get a tech to look at it
and finally after *****ed at them sayint that people (that i assume) don't work for sprint know more about this (thanks Rudegar for your responces) then they do, they finally just came out and said that, yeah this is how it is and there isn't anyway around it.
it seems that this is a better place to get answers then emailing sprint --- although i should have realized that from the beginning, i won't make that mistake again.
well i guess your question has been answered, but figure id add my 2 cents...
it works like this only in EV-DO areas not on 1x....
my ring through works perfectly fine when a call or text comes in, it discconects allows me to do what i want, then it automatically reconnects back to data..

Web browsing/data while on a call

I can usually browse the web and use data while I'm on a phone call.
Tonight I tried it and had no data connection until disconnecting the voice call. Can anyone who has not installed the OTA verify that it is still working? Or anyone with the OTA? Maybe I'm just crazy and am remembering something that didn't happen? No, I'm sure I could do both before.
I would hate to lose it this feature.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Works for me.. I've heard people say this happend before the update too, but I've never had any issues with it. Best thing to do is call tmobile to help you. It might have something to do with a weak signal, or not enough signal to handle both at the same time.
Have you tried using wifi calling and then browse the web through your wifi? That would prove it was somehow related to network signal.

My net won't work on Edge during a call, and is kind of laggy on 3G.

U can only use data and voice with 3g/4g.
Edge uses the same stream as voice so you cant do both on edga data.
But I always use data and voice, mainly when looking up addresses or phone numbers

So maybe it was because I was on an Edge only network at the time of the phone call? I'll have to experiment more. To tell the truth I hardly make any phone calls with my cell phone.
This was all during a 35 minute trip across town so it's hard to believe it's on Edge the entire time since I have really good H access around town.
I'll call T-Mobile soon if it doesn't fix itself.
I've also been using a SIM that came with my Sidekick which was two phones ago. Going to also ask them if I am on the best web plan.
Thanks for the help.

I have noticed this problem on my HD2 for a while now. I am sitting on a nice 3G signal and the moment a voice call connects, my data connection dies. it does eventually drop to Edge or GPRS but bounces back the instant I'm off my call. it's really consistent as in the moment I connect, it goes.
I've seen this behavior on both my Windows and Android builds on my HD2.
I'm starting to think this is either a hardware issue or perhaps a greater T-Mobile one.
Any thoughts?

i read on that app it just costs as much as cellulair data.
so why in earth will people use wifi calling? they can just call without wifi. its called a PLAN
I get invalid sim as well I am on vodafone and not |T-Mobile..
Maybe you could change it to work on Vodafone?
i have tmobile, maybe thats why? might have to do with the APN or something
yay this is good but the thing I see is that if you are calling it may be going to the t-mobile servers ofc if thats the case only t-mobile sims may be able to get unless we edit the apk or spoof our sim but then also im guessing the wifi calling costs so not sure how this would work xD nice though
totally non sense. how can someone call using wifi or whatever internet source you may have to any cellular or telephone number untill you don't have some service provider etc... if this wifi calling is working over the internet, what application is it using?
seems totally fake or irrelavent
This apps works because i put the phone in airplain mode and use wifi only.
If you guys having problem then maybe it your phone. But, my phone is working, be glad that you have wifi calling.
This an oct 22,2008 phone not even the iphone 3g has this feature.

quite right, you think we can get a workaround?
I dont know im going to buy a new phone because i miss adobe flash content so much. I know this is out of topic but i miss my original droid before it got messed up.
G1 is nice when it was a backup phone in 2010. My main phone in 2008/2009 most of the time, until i sold my cliq. But, now i just want a phone with higher specs.
I try playing gameloft games HD/3D games that isnt working because of processor we have.
This developer now a days is coding their apps to make it work with 3.5 inches and beyond, with higher frame,Power vr ship specs.
I love my g1, but im going to buy either g2 or hd 7.
I think i speak for everyone having an phone for to long loses it power in long run.
And, wifi calling on this app only work with T-mobile sim card and wifi of course.
There is a wifi app.
it was ripped off the G2 and ported to the vibrant, so it is possible.
however its not that good.
it was taken out of most roms on the vibrant because of its buggyness/uslessness.
it drains battery pretty bad even when not running.
it uses minutes even when calling through wifi (the only purpose of the app is to get clear signal in places where there is none for tmobile customers and not to save on minutes)
Its just kinda buggy overall.
hopefully they'll release a cleaner app in the future, but for now its pointless if you get decent signal at home.
Honestly, this apps work fine to me. Im just disappointed that the developer now a days isnt supporting older device by coding the apps to higher specs phone.
Wanted to get an android phone with wifi calling capability for a friend who is currently in Iraq. My budget will not allow me to a buy a g2/mt4g, and a g1 seems like the cheapest option so this is where I began looking. So if I added an extra line on my family plan, grabbed a g1, rooted and installed this app would my friend be able to make calls as long as he has a wifi connection? Can anyone confirm this works without any access to the tmobile network?

I'm not sure about on the g1, but on other phones it works, but it still uses t-mobile minutes.
so you can be away from the t-mobile network, but you still need to have a t-mobile plan and minutes.
its basicaly for those who have horrible signal at home, but do have a wifi connection.

Workaround

I found a way around the no data while on a phone call. This works on LP but not sure on MM. Activate the download booster and you're good to go!
Is this not new?
It looks like you're connected to wifi in those pics. Data works while on the phone if you're connected to a WiFi router.

to you why
The older phones had two CDMA radios put in them (such as the S3 on Sprint). One dedicated to voice -- another dedicated to data. Therefore you could do voice and data. GSM has always been one radio .. because that one radio can do both tasks at the same time. They got around it on CDMA by simply adding another radio in there and dedicating each one to one task.
Now a days they're getting rid of that second CDMA radio. So therefore you can only use talk, or data -- not both at the same time. Now if you're using VoLTE it will allow voice and data since the call will be going through LTE (as data) and .. data will be data. So it is technically then all data.
