Will verizon htc droid eris work in Europe??? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have post this in another thread but the topic name doesn't repsresnt my question.
Will verizon htc droid eris work in Europe???
i have bought an htc droid eris from eBay and i am a bit suspicious that it wont work in Europe band (gsm) actually i have no idea about this things.
please answer me asap as i still have time to cancel the order and get a refund.

from the link
http://areacellphone.com/2009/10/htc-droid-eris-vs-motorola-droid-iphone/
it says that is has a double sim port so you can put a normal GSM sim in.
But again, this forum is populated by lazy people who cannot be arsed to find out for themselves. I googled this within a minute, which it is taking me longer to moan about...
Terrible.

Thanks for the answer, appreciated.
But did not answer my quastion as what you state is for the MOTOROLA droid.
Man as you may noticed i am an xda member for quite a long now i had many wm devices in the past and i am also an IT. I never post before searching(see #post) or if i know what search for.
in the link you post it sates tha HTC droid Eris Radio type:
* Comm standard: CDMA
* CDMA type: EV-DO rA
* CDMA bands: 850, 1900
I have no idea what to look for to see if its supported in Europe.
Thanks, Zenon.
And again any answer is appreciated.

NO IT WONT WORK...
according to this article
http://www.3gnewsroom.co.uk/3g_news/mar_05/news_5669.shtml
i notice that the particular device wont work in EU
EU use cdma 850~1900
i have already send an email to the seller, not to ship the phone.
Any confirmation of the above will be good.
Thanks.
P.s: i found out that i can still search after i post a thread and i can reply to my own thread to give more information to people... WOW!

??? That link says that the Motorola Droid has a dual SIM slot, whereas the OP asked about the HTC Droid Eris.
FWIW I can't find anything that says the Eris is a world phone, so I think the OP should assume that it isn't and that it won't work on GSM networks.

Dave

EU uses W-CMDA, not CDMA. Whilst both are similar technologies the former is part of the GSM standard whereas the latter is not.
Some CDMA phones are what they call "world phones" which essentially means they have a GSM radio and SIM card slot in addition to the CDMA radio, but the vast majority do not. See here for more details.

Is it flashable?

Hi all,
I've successfully flashed my genuine T-Mobile HTC SP5m in the past and now I'm about to buy this "china made" version of the HTC Touch and I'd like to know if I'll be able of flashing this "fake" HTC Touch to the most recent ROM available, e.g. WM6.5 instead of the pre-loaded WM6.1?
Here's the "fake" HTC Touch I'm about to buy: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21069
In the Discussions section of the DX website, a user is asking if this phone is ROM/firmware upgradeable and here's the answer provided, is it true??
Subject: ROM/firmware upgradeable?
CosmoVitelli Tuesday, July 20, 2010 8:40 AM
Without a new ROM image from the manufacturer - forget it.
Simonetti2010 Tuesday, July 20, 2010 8:58 AM
You might want to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/
The guys at XDA Developers have up-to-date ROMs for almost every WM phones released.
CosmoVitelli Tuesday, July 20, 2010 1:26 PM
Wrong. XDA Dev is focussed on genuine HTC phones, and trying to install a HTC ROM will make any of the chinese copies become a useless brick.

Thanks all for your time and support,

CosmoVitelli is right. I would never by a clone, nor try flashing one. Just spend the extra to buy a ligit phone and have the ability to use XDA!
Thanks for your reply. That's what I finally did, I bought an official HTC XV6900 at half the DX price off eBay, it's new Verizon phone in an opened box. Can't wait to receive it.
I'll have to flash it cause my provider here in Quebec is Fido and not Verizon.
Which firmware with WM6.5 would you guys suggest me?
Thanks all,
highmighty
Thats a vogue, so CDMA, you'll need to head there. They do have FroYo android roms running on it. 6.5 - not sure what roms exist for it.
Are you sure that phone will work for you. It is CDMA, from what I understand, Fido (Rogers) are GSM? I only ask as the DX link was a GSM phone.
Damnit... true, Verizon uses CDMA and my Fido carrier is using GSM, what's next? Reselling the phone as soon as I receive it? I've read somewhere that it is possible to use a CDMA phone on a GSM network, that there are some agreements made between the 2 now, that it will connect to at least the EDGE network but not 3G, etc? Is that true, are you aware of such a thing?
Thank you for your time,
highmighty
I'm not aware of such a thing, we don't seem to have any CDMA here in england, everything is Sim Card GSM Based.
In my honest opinion though, I don't think it will even connect to the GPRS network as there would be nothing telling it teh details (your sim card is not present)
EOF then I guess
Anyone interested by a new HTC CDMA Touch XV6900 currently locked to Verizon??
I'd recommend going to the xda marketplace section in general, you make have some luck there
Could always try to sweet talk the seller into taking a return?
Sorry that I ruined your hopes

[Q] Milestone 2 (GSM) on At&T - 3G Works?

So, I was about to buy this phone and use it on At&t in the US, but as I was looking at the ebay listings, I noticed that some of them stated that It does not work GSM with at&t.
I'm not very tech savy, but I find hard to believe that such an advanced phone would have this problem. Can anybody that tested it, shine some light on this for me please?
Thank you
It has the hardware to support it but it's the software that verizon has locked down to not work with any other carrier in the USA
In normal gsm phones you simply need an unlock code for the phone to work with any other carrier then the one it's meant to work with but in this case even after you give the phone the unique code it still won't work with att or Tmobile in the USA so we are looking to see how to disable the lock on USA bands on the phone but it seems not many people have made much progress
Thanks for trying to help, but that is not what i'm asking
I know it works, but everybody says it doesn't work on 3G, just on EDGE.
here's the response I got from an ebay retailer
"This version will work on the AT&T GSM network, however, will not work on the 3G network, only edge.
Best regards,
Communication Telecom International "
AT&T uses 850Mhz and 1900Mhz for the 3G frequency bands and it does support it in the hardware as I was saying, its just that nothing at this point will work not even EDGE because the USA lock overrides anything AT&T uses.

You are confusing the Droid 2 Global with the Milestone 2. Two different phones here.
the milestone2 should have the right hardware to connect to att 3g sorry for the confusion
The Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro also have the hardware to support US GSM bands but it has been disabled in the radio. This is not software, so to speak, but rather hardware configuration.
If you know where to look you can fix this problem.

Don't hijack the thead!
OP asked about Milestone 2, not Droid 2 Globlal.
So - to address OP's question - yes - Milestone 2 currently on sale in most places is the EMEA model (Europe/Middle East/Asia), which has 900 and 2100 W-CDMA bands only.
Based on the official page from Motorola here, Milestone 2 A953 has a version with W-CDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz which are the bands used primarily in the Americas (850 and 1900) and Australia (850/2100). There was an article the phone is coming to Argentina before Christmas, so it may start showing up quite soon.
If you want US 3G support from Milestone 2, you have to wait for one of these to emerge. Sure enough it will not have any restrictions against US GSM/WCDMA operators (MCC 310) like the Droid 2 Global (currently) does.
I am not "messing". I cannot post external links of proof because I have too few posts.
I also do not wish to SPAM your forum out of respect for the rules.
Search for droidbandunlock on Twitter for more information.
thats sweet then I saw the video, I have a D2G and bought the phone for this purpose, where will the release be?
They inted to sell it as a servce. It definitely works...we were early testers and I have been trying to help them get the word out about it. These guys know what they are doing and what the value of this exploit is.
well sure but I'd like to know about it asap I've been stuck using this on wifi only :/
I'd pay about $10 for it

Those bast*rds!!! How dare they know what the value is and not give it away for free!!!
I am just kidding
People sell unlock codes all the time for like 15 bucks so should be no problem for people that have to pay for this exploit...wonder if it is the same one I found
This may not be the best thread to continue this discussion. My apologies for the hijack.
I am most interested in seeing what you have found, but from what little reading I have done in your threads it appears you are working in the system only and not modifying the radio.
If that is the case, then our exploit has nothing in common with yours.
Do you have any evidence of it working with US GSM bands on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Perhaps we should start another thread, but we will not be revealing the precise nature of our method for obvious reasons.
Our method makes no changes to the system and leaves no trace of itself anywhere that can be accessed on the device itself beyond the ability to use the US GSM bands.
sorry to interruput but i think this is the only way to talk to you unlocker but about what will the price be and where can we find more info about release dates and downloads etc.? i found you on twitter and asked a few questions but there still isnt much info
I have to modify system because in my ROM (Fission) the packages that handle sim card functions do not work without some "blur" components so thus the need to modify my system
I have pics and a vid ready to go for when I was going to sell my service. I am not trying to nor am I going to compete with you guys or from TBH. P3Droid and Gweedo have been nothing but really friendly with me and to be honest; I would rather not deal with the headaches that come with selling a service on this forum and/or many others. I already went through and going through hell for the way I handle Fission ROM Manager and really don't want any more of that crap...I would rather continue dev work on the ROMs and some other apps I have been working on
I won't get into how my method works for the same reasons that are very clear too but if you want to discuss anything in private feel free to message me or hit me up on Gtalk.
Did you guys release your method yet? If not when do you plan on doing so? I would like to prepare Fission for users who will need to unlock or do use their SIM cards...

Thanks Angdroid for ur hard work. Been following u for some time, hopefully u can release SIM package for D2G Fission soon.
Could anyone running Fission ROM try to switch to GSM mode from *#*#4636#*#* menu? I know you can switch to GSM from there on the original ROM without having to go to settings/wireless/networks/etc As it is standard Android tool, maybe that could be used to switch between the two radios until AngDroid figures out how to make it nice. Hope it works though.

t-mobile (USA) mytouch 4g in germany

hey there,
i currently own a mytouch 4g from t-mobile,
however i'll be moving to Germany soon.
i know that getting the unlock code from t-mobile will allow me to use it in Germany, however, i also know that north America always has been a bit... eccentric about frequencies.
I'd like to make sure that an unlocked 4g would be able to run UMTS/HSDPA in Germany
thank you for your help
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=will+an+unlocked+MyTouch4g+be+able+to+run+UMTS/HSDPA+in+Germany
Well I dont know bout the unlock code from t mobile, but I did an ultimate s-off root of the device and it works flawlessly in south east asia..
Just check the band that the carrier uses and make sure it is supported by the phone..den unlock it somehow, and it should work..

I was wonder the same thing.
It seems know one knows about this here...
I'd like to bump this, because I am going to Germany and want to buy a prepaid data flatrate to use the 3G/4G - so before I do that I was wondering if it will work... and if I will have to change some settings...
It seems that you don't want to read or search, since the question was answered MULTIPLE times.
MT4G works on 1700 and 2100 bands.
Look up your cellular carrier in Germany here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks
And see if it supports 2100 band.
Pretty much all Europe does.

Well i would say he does know how to search, which is how he found this thread gotta give em credit for not starting an entirely new thread.
Great, thank you for the answer and for the mockery!
And Yes, I used the searching function and did not find anything but this thread so maybe if the mods could mark this thread as SOLVED then the next person won't be mocked just like me and get their answer right away, after using the search function of course.
I also added a part to my question, where I asked if I had to change any settings, because for WAP I had to do that... just looking at the frequency band wont help me much if I got my data flatrate (especially if I can't get online to ask more questions here)
how about that...

There was another, much bigger thread, discussing MyTouch 4G in Europe, including some possible problems in France (partially working on 900 MHz bands, not supported by the phone). I believe it's in Questions&Answers section. I'm a bit out of time right now, but you can try to find it.
P.S. Starting a question with "it seems no one knows about this here" isn't a good way to ask for kind-hearted response

Mocking someone in response, does not show kind-heartedness. Kind-hearted people would have merged or linked to the thread where the answer is. In addition, this thread is clearly dedicated to Germany and not Europe, there are different standards in Europe (and I clearly don't care what's going on in France or Turkey, that's is why I simply asked about Germany, so don't get your panties all up in a bunch.
To end the mockery and flaming... I thank you for answering my question, I will check and change the APN settings or the carrier and post if the solution worked - so that the other thread can link here for a simple yes or no for German specific networks.
You can be sure that it'll link to "yes", unless you're going with E-Plus, which has incompatible 900 MHz band in use. "Sure" - I mean "absolutely sure". It's probably obvious from my location and cellular carrier that I'm not using MT4G with T-Mobile either, so I know a thing or two about the frequencies that it works on. The info above, in my first post in this thread, isn't questionable and doesn't have anything to do with any specific country. These are directions to know whether your MT4G will or will not work with ANY of the cellular carriers listed on Wikipedia, in ANY of the listed countries. With 99.9999999% chance of being correct.
And looks like I'm going to Germany myself in 2 months...
(and judging by your response, I believe you didn't understand my P.S. in the previous post. Oh well, no biggie but you might want to read it again)
And you're welcome

I was actually looking at eplus, because they had a 7 Euro monthly data flat rate on their prepaid cards... I am glad you just wrote that because I was really considering it...
now i have to continue looking at all the prepaid cards comparisons...
So it worked like a charm. After unlock, got to Germany, went to Vodafone, got the flatrate and was able to use all the features. GPS + Google maps worked flawlessly.

Will LS980 (Sprint) will work on GSM network?

I'm looking everywhere i can,
At LG Site i see that it supports GSM bands (local or international) and at wiki and some people over here says it cannot be done.
My question is, if i will put a foreign SIM card in this phone, will the phone will work under it's GSM Bands?
Thanks,

The phone does have GSM capabilities, yes. But sprint needs to unlock it for you, which I am almost positive until now that even Sprint doesn't know how to unlock it themselves yet because I have not heard from one person that they have unlocked it and comfirmed here there the unlock actually worked.
Some user on the HTC ONE from sprint found a workaround(which I am almost positive can also be one on the G2, because it was done on the GS4), so I am waiting patiently for an answer to this issue.

Hey everyone, I could really use some help. (Sorry if this is in the wrong place)
I'm in the USA, on Verizon. I got a note FE the other day (SM-N935L) and went to put in the sim card but it keeps telling me the mobile networks are currently blocked and to contact customer service but I can't do that because I can't currently make calls or have data. Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info to possibly help, just let me know.

Probably not,AT&T & T-Mobile are your best bets for using international phones on their networks & associated MVNOs.
Not trying to sound like a jerk, but,Google is your friend on the subject.
Here's a fairly recent write up giving a Readers Digest summary:

Also, try these sites for specific device compatibility:

Yeah as stated above google helps you out tons when you are in the market for a new device. I never looked for international devices or non-carrier branded phones while I was with Verizon and Sprint they are CDMA and most unlocked devices are GSM. For me I just knew for most functions to work on my phone they had to have the sprint or verizon logo on them some where.
I have not looked back since I left both of the above companies because I feel I have so many more options now. There are others who have made the same mistake and I have seen their listings on ebay. There are lots of people looking for this device so at least you can get your money back by selling it if you need to. (swappa is a good option for selling as well)
Thank you for all the info! I thought it was CDMA compatible but I guess I was wrong.. :/ I need to check more before buying! Live and learn I guess... I'll probably end up reselling it.
Thank you for all the help!
My K model gets full LTE signal and bars on Cricket. I'm in Phoenix.
