PRL file extensions missing - Touch CDMA General

I just moved up to Sprint WinMob 6.1 from a baked version that I had used for some time but decided was inadequate. When I use the EPST to update my prl, it doesn't see any files. When I use my browser (File Explorer) it doesn't show any extensions either. How can I get the EPST to see my PRL files? Thanks,
WMT

Does Sprint not allow for *228? My Sprint days were so long ago, but I thought you could dial *228 and let the PRL update over the air.

Although it is a Sprint phone, I am using it on Tricom in the Dominican Republic. I found a work around for the PRL problem by typing in the PRL file name in the browser dialogue (\Tricom2516.prl). This unbricked the phone.
Before that it defaulted to the Viva network, so *228 wouldn't have worked. Now it shows Bell but is connected to Tricomm.
I would still like to find a way of making WinMob 6.1 show me the file extensions without having to load another utility. There must be an option dialogue somewhere that I have missed. Thanks,
WMT

Very interesting that you say "unbricked" your phone but in what sense I am wondering? Stuck in boot loader? Black screen?
I believe, from what I now understand, the PRL contains all of the protocols or rules that your phone uses to connect to the network, so if you remove those protocols it makes sense that they would cease to have an effect on your phone but how exactly would you apply them if the phone is bricked/stuck in boot loader or black screen anyways?
You must mean bricked in the sense that you can't use it on network/no service I'm guessing?
I'm looking for the PRL that's already on a phone. Apparently as far as I can tell no one knows. I'm thinking it's possibly not available/the information loaded into your ##xxxx# code menus. If that's true the only way to get it would be to copy it by hand I would think. That doesn't explain blackberries having host routing tables though, although that is not quite the same as a prl... it seems quite a bit different actually....
The PRL is built by an operator and is normally not accessible to the user. Many operators provide the ability for the user to download the latest PRL to their device by dialing an Over-the-air (OTA) feature code (*228 for Verizon/MetroPCS/US Cellular).

All Operators/Carriers use the same program to build their PRL's apparently. They use Qualcomm CDG (CDMA DEVELOPMENT GROUP) program that is available for download on their website. It's amazing that no one has downloaded it or tweaked their own PRL'S to get service from any CDMA tower/carrier/operator.

Problem with changing the Operator Name on upgraded 8525

I've been playing this weekend, first downgrading the ROM with 1.04 bootloader, so I could upgrade to the latest HTC x.35 ROM. Having done that and upgraded the radio to the latest version as well, I find I still have one issue.
I've combed through all the registry hacks and have flipped the right bits and entered the appropriate keys/strings and yet I can't get this phone to display anything but "ROGERS" (302720) on the today screen. I was successful changing the operator name on my HTC Herald before sending it off to a friend, but this unit will not cooperate.
Anyone have some hints on where else (obscure if necessary) I can look to make this thing display what I want?
I've never been able to do this either on the Hermes
I kinda think I'm missing the point here...but I got rid of most of my Cingular logos simply by simply downloading all the stuff in my 8525's \windows directory to my pc, and finding all the gif's, png's and jpg files that were Cingular logos. Then I loaded those graphics into photoshop and made transparent images of the same size and properties, saved them back using the original names, and reloaded them to the original locations on the 8525. Restart, and voila, no more Cingular branding.
Maybe this will work in your case?

No actually, this has nothing to do with the files on the phone, except that the tweak to change the Operator Name given the right registry value (302720) should work, but doesn't.
OK ... never mind. But I'm confused by what you're asking. You actually have Rogers branding on your Today Screen? Where does it appear?
Maybe this is something Cingular didn't implement? (Thankfully?)
Sorry I couldn't help. (wish there was an icon for "embarrassed"),
No, not branding, it's just displaying "Rogers" on the homescreen when I'd prefer to dictate what it displays.
Cruisin1966 - Rogers name is part of SimCard, you wan't change it.
Same was here - non VoiceStream (or current T-Mobile US) cards said VoiceStream (T-Mobile US), VoiceStream (T-Mobile US) cards said VStream (T-Mobile).
It is part of SIMcard and if your's OTA operator can change name as they want.
Hope this help
No disrespect intended, but please re-read my original post. I successfully changed the name displayed on the homescreen with the HTC Herald, and my question was why can't I changed the name displayed on this 8525.
Cruisin1966 - Question: Does Rogers has 3G network so your phone could log in there?

3G isn't available anywhere but around Toronto, as far as I know. Definitely not in/near Calgary, that much I do know.
Cruisin1966 - hmmm I thought that it might be OpName over UMTS but now it might be just imposible to change SIM directive in this model. I have the same problem with Cingular or T-Mobile.
Lets wait for official aku 3.3 and then we can go back to this discussion.

Im so confused!

Ok, heres my problem. I have a Verizon XV6900. I am currently on a local CDMA carrier. How can I get my HTC to work on my network, my network excepts outside phones so I know they will do it. Ive read about the Coke unlocker but I am confsued. Does the unlocker make it so you can use the phone on any CDMA network or just so you can put custom ROMs to it? Thank you very much, ive done alot of reading but I just need some clarification. Thanks.

The coke unlocker is so you can install new/different ROMs on you device. What you really want to do is a full flash to your carrier. Who is your carrier? I might have some good pointers or even a tutorial I can point you too.
I have a local carrier called cellcom, theyre a local CDMA company.
I did a quick search and it seems like there is some sort of cellcom rom or something out there for the Vogue, so if you can find that, you shouldn't have an issue. I couldn't point you in the direction of that though, didn't find a download of any sort, just some random info.

Well that's a new one to me! But any way to flash over to them from Verizon you will need to gather some basic information like:
PRL files
MNC #
SID/NID #
activation number.
To get your web MMS working you will need to know other setting like HDr/ppp username and passwords. server names ports proxys, etc. Those you might need to get from cellcom.
There is alot of info that you can pull from a current handset if you have one and some that you will need to ask them for.
Here is a LINK for a tutorial I wrote for flashing the Vogue to cricket just replace all the cricket info with the cellcom info. If you have a question on the tutorial post it in that thread. I monitor it better then here.
From what ive read I can use an alltlell rom and it would work. Could someone tell me how to go about this so cellcom can activate it because I dont have any codes or anything. Thanks.

You can put an alltel ROM on it but you will still need some of the setting I mentioned above unless they are an alltel MVNO which would technically make them a Verizon MVNO now. But anyway here is a LINK to all the shipped ROMs for the Vogue I would start there with a shipped and then upgrade after you have it activated.
Be sure to unlock with coke unlocker first and follow all the instructions.
Well I previously had a razor that was from US Cellular and that worked fine and was activated perfectly but I read in my research that someone had a US Cellular Vogue and it wouldnt activate with cellcom. Is there a way I can just get the unlock code and then have them activate it without messing with the ROMs?

The easiest way to do it find out the PRL & activation code for the OTASP and see if it will program the PST automatically. If it will OTASP successfully you will have at least talk and text.
and it won't touch the ROM.
Your unlock code for a Verizon device will be 000000. F.Y.I.
Could you explain to me how to do that? Im sorry but im a complete newb.

The PRL file is going to be the hard part, I did a quick search and came up empty handed.
For the OTASP I would say call your carrier and ask for it. Most carriers are like *228, *2, *22804, etc, etc.
If you find out the important info I can tell you how to use it.
This site will give you a little bit of intell on PRL's SIDs MNC's and different info you will need. http://www.roamingzone.com/
Ok, I used the service menu and pulled some info out of my rumor. I have the PPPID, PPP Pass, SID, NID, and PRL. I guess the only thing im missing is the MNC and the OTASP number. Im gonna call cellcom in the morning for the OTASP number but does anyone know where I can find the MNC.

Pulled it from my last posted link
here it is Cellcom MNC 600
Now on your PRL you will need the file if you don't have it post your PRL number here and I'll see if I can help you locate it.

Well so now you will need to manually program it with all your gathered information. To do so you are going to access the PST program by dialing ##778# or ##778snd then it will bring up another window click on edit enter 6 0's. Frfom there find all the info that you will need to replace and replace it. As for a PRL file it is a scarce creature for cellcom. I would recommend asking them if they might be able to refer you to where to get it.
try this one it works for me!!!
I have got HTC P3050 (TELUS) I have got a procedure to unlock SPRINT TOUCH but anyone can tll me that it will work for TELUS TOUCH i want to use it in India it may be any network
here is the procedure:
I did this for my Sprint Touch. I am still using it in the USA but my phone has been modified to support other carriers with no problem.
The steps are simple:
Here is what you need to do:
1. Download GetSPC(attached below)
2. Unzip to desktop
3. Turn off phone and remove battery.
4. Write down your HEX ESN
5. Power your device back on
6. Connect via ActiveSync or WMDC
7. Copy entire folder to main memory on device.
8. Run GetSPC.exe
9. In the top box type in your HEX ESN(make sure caps is on)
10. Click generate or whatever the button is named
11. The resulting number should be a 6 digit number, your MSL, write it down.
12. Search for, download and install Qualcomm's QPST tool.(not freeware)
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE VERY DANGEROUS SO MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS EXACTLY.
13. Run QPST Configuration(run as admin if Vista)
14. From the Dialpad, dial ##3424#(##diag#)
15. Connect device to computer via USB(this will install drivers)
16. In QPST Configuration, click ports.
17. Continue to add ports until the QPST Configuration detects your phone
18. Under active phones it should display your phone.
19. Click Start Clients/Service Programming
20. Select phone and click ok.
DO NOT LEAVE FIRST TAB, THE SETTINGS TAB. THIS IS THE ONLY TAB WE WILL NEED TO CHANGE ANY SETTINGS
21. Under the settings tab, click Read from phone.
22. Input your MSL you got from GetSPC earlier.
23. Under codes where it says Service Programming, change this to 000000
24. Click Write to Phone
25. Wait 1 minute
26. Close Qualcomm QPST one window at a time.
27. Disconnect the USB cable from your device
28. Perform Soft reset once
29. Test new MSL(##000000#)
30. If new code does not go through, hard reset.
31. Depending on what device you have, follow the necessary steps to unlock your phone so you can flash a new ROM to it.
32. Install OEM ROM from carrier of choice or build your own custom ROM using the new carrier's information.
33. Follow instructions to flash new OS to device.
34. Call service provider and do some sweet talking to get them to activate the phone on their network. You may need to do some serious sweet talking because Sprint ESNs are not in Verizon's database and vice versa. This goes for all CDMA carriers.
Good luck.
just get the PRL & MDN FROM YOUR NEW CARRIER AND CHANGE IT USING QUALCOMM
IF U GOT CONFUSION JUST REPLY ME
ALSO I DONT OFTEN VISIT COMP.. SO JUST WAIT 4 MY REPLY I WILL DEFINETELY REPLY YOU

Try using ##778# with no snd. Then you should have the new window pop up.
if u dont get a prl just try to connect any of phones running on cellcomm and then read PRL from that phone using QUALCOMM
also if u want to start it to cellcomm then just go there and fill up the forms and tell them to enter your ESN on their network now just install TELUS WM 6.1 ROM and then dial *228 it will automatically download all the PRL,MDN and change all other information
then flash any ROMS you like i basically like NFS FAN V17 ROM
ALSO U SHOULD PROBABLY DIAL ##778# IT WILL OPEN EPST TOOL THEN U WILL NOT HEAR THE RECORDING!!!!!
IF ANY PBL REPLY ME !!!!!!!

ATTN ROM makers: can you remove *2 from speeddial please

Not sure why Sprint wants to replace the all-time most commonly/important number on the keypad most often used for speeddial with their own *2 customer service number.. as if it isn't short enough already. And the fact that it can't be replaced or deleted is irritating.
DamageControl v1.0 was great in that it didnt have the number in there.
DC v2.05 has it. Can it be removed at the system level??
Thanks.
That's dictated by the service, not by the phone....
*edit..
Damagecontrol was based off the wrong service settings, so it didn't dial predicated by network..
I find that hard to believe. And if true then these "service settings" should be able to be modified to remove just that speed dial entry.
Well .....................................................................................................................
Maybe you need to expand your reasoning, nobody else said anything........
And I actually know that it's true, so believe what you want.. lol
Service setting being the PRI... Which is the network indicator...
If the phone was dialing verizon tower, based off the incorrect PRI, which it was, would not get the service *redirect* to customer service through sprint...
It is not a speed dial.... It is built into sprint's network...
And edit* because I know its coming....
It was still built off of the Verizon base... The PRI was not the only thing in DamageControl different...
Not what you were talking about, but a strange thing just happened. I have been tweaking with all the png's in HtcDialer.apk and Phone.apk....Flashed to phone and as I was looking through everything...IT DIALED *2... Kinda Freaky...

*2 is a Sprint defined feature code used by dialing "*" then "2" then "Call". Speed dial 2 is available and not interfered with by *2, and is used by long pressing "2". What's the problem?
edit: ah, now I see, *2 is programmed in speed dial position 2 and positions 1 and 2 cannot be re-programmed through the menus provided ... so the manual says you can program 9 speed dial entries, but as it stands, you can only program 7 entries (3 thru 9) - ok, my bad!

Not true. I am on Cellular South and I am using my ROM (BitterSweet) that is based off DamageControl V2.05 WITH the Cellular South PRI, and I too have this as speeddial 2. Not only that, it even says "Sprint Customer Service" when I dial it. So no, it is NOT PRI based

PRI is a ISDN indicator for a voice T1 with 23 channels.. It is what sets up every call you make...Every call made from your phone, goes through a PRI gateway. It leads the caller Id and call through the network to your device and is what provides Caller ID and is network specific.. Without the correct PRI you cannot correctly dial into any network.. ****KEY WORD-correctly***
Just because you cook roms, doesn't mean you know everything little one...
The reason you don't have it on damage control is because it is a verizon rom, based off what they need for calls... It is built into Sprint because it is a Sprint Phone.. Go change something in the radio, you might be able to get it off..
But again.. please believe what you want...

This guys right.. I was thinking way too far into what the OP asked..It didn't even dawn on me until I read this post that he just wants his 2 key to dial.. Not change it in the way I thought he was asking... So all my posts are wrong.. But I'm leaving them up there, just because I figure someone in all the glory of the recent PRI issues would like to know..
But the part about the DC not having it is right..
That speed dial is hard coded somewhere, so it couldn't be that hard to change.. Unzip a rom and have a look. Look for anything in the phone or dialer that has a key structure and see if you can find it...

Relax Tipharet, you're thinking about me from months back when I asked here and on the GSM hero forum (made sense then because we just found root).
It is obviously an annoying "feature" for many.
That said, I tried pushing the HtcDialer.apk from the eris leak to fresh 2.0d, but it left me with a phone with no dialer. I definitely missed a needed step to get it right, but that is the extent of my skills. I think that this will work if someone else can give it a go.
Hey not sure if I am just digging up what you all already know, but all you have to do is flash another HtcDialer.apk from any other carrier besides sprint.
I updated JsChaiSurf's black dialer with the CS dialer, so you don't have to mess with *2 being sprint's b1atch.

I believe that you need to have something like CDMA Workshop, where you can connect the device to the computer and change all the programming of the device (including phone numbers).
I believe there are codes as well to access carrier programming directly in the device, but I don't know them. Although, I have seen a few threads with these codes around xda.
I know my new XevRev rom for WM6.5 would allow me to program/PRL update with Verizon, it is currently untested with other carriers though but I wager it should work since I made the roms carrier specific. It's not droid but you shouldn't have to flash back to stock without relocking.
Since I switched service to MetroPCS with my EVO and Metro did an outstanding job in leaving me phone-less for a full day and a half due to not programming it properly, I had to search around a bit myself and came across a few codes that may help:
##DATA#
##DIAG#
##000000# (note that if the zeros are for the MSL number. If you have CID unlocked the device, this code should probably work. Else, you will need to figure out your MSL. You can use MSL Reader, which is free in the Market). BTW, this last one is the EPST Programming, which is where you can change the phone number. Having said that, play with this at your own risk and back up every single number that you change by writing it down somewhere in case you need it again)

ATIV SE

I broke my interop unlocked Ativ S. Instead of buying a new one I bought the Ativ SE from Amazon without a contract. I've read every post with "ATIV SE" in it and searched the forum for hours looking to see if any progress has been made with the ATIV SE.
The phone came unlocked, however I can not receive MMS messages or turn on internet sharing with out using a friends Verizon sim card. I have T-Mobile service which is the source of my issues.
Fiddler works to install most other manufacture APPs. I did a stupid thing though and upgraded the phone to windows 8.1 because of Cortana. The Nokia Access point will not install.
Is there anything that can be done with the ATIV SE yet? A lot of post say "all Samsung devices" but pre-date the Ativ SE's release. I've contacted Microsoft, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Samsung trying to figure out the issue or get the phone flashed with a generic ROM but support only wants to point fingers at other companies and rush me off the phone.
Any information is welcome. I've tried customizing the APN settings every way I could and had T-Mobile resend correct setting countless times and still nothing. Verizon did something with the ROM to make it miserable to use on another carrier. I can get the diagnostic app to install but it seems like codes have changed from the Ativ S.
I spent hours trying to get the correct LTE settings for T-Mobile and 6 weeks of frustration makes me want to go buy another Ativ S.
I can't recommend anything besides wait awhile. No work has been done on the device as its specifically manufactured for Verizon.
I would attempt to call Samsung. Say you got an update from Verizon and the spinning gears won't stop spinning after 5 hours. I've heard that Samsung has offered onetime flashing, but I don't remember where.
Once you get a GDR3 version of the phone, try editing stuff inside diagnosis or APNs.
Did you ever get your problem solved with the MMS or internet sharing? Im in the same situation.
Any help is much appreaciated.
Have the mms and Internet Sharing ever been solved for the Ativ SE for WP8 and Official WP8.1? I would like to buy one to use for at&t if it is.

I've been trolling the forums for months off and on. So far there's been progress but after FINALLY being able to roll the device back to WP 8.0 GDR3 and upgrading to the "real" WP 8.1 it looks like Verizon has made things much more difficult. The APN settings are locked and hidden. I was able to get LTE data working again, but MMS and Internet sharing is FUBARed.
Maybe I can't follow directions, but it seems like every way to edit the registry has been patched after upgrading to Verizon's version of the OS.
Root Tool is available in the APP Store, but I can't get it to function.
The Registry Key information that needs editing is readily available on the forum, but I haven't found a functioning method to do so.
If anyone has been able to successfully edit the Registry on an ATIV SE please provide the info on how you did it!
I have no idea how to use the MBN creator either.
What I have figured out is:
1) Able to flash device back to stock
2) Side load unsigned developer apps
3) Find necessary lines in Registry to edit
If anyone has a modded image that works with WP8_Binary_Downloader_Ver._3.54.exe, or can help me put the last pieces of the puzzle together, that would be awesome!

So you're saying you were able to edit the APN for MMS on WP8 and it still didnt work but now with the official real WP8.1, the APN for MMS are hidden and can't even be edit anymore? Man that really sucks! I really like the phone too. Have you tried these

To see if they worked? If you did, sorry for repeating ?

Yes. The Windows Insider APP was updated, so it closed that method of registry editing and Couldn't manage to get write access enabled for CustomPFD. If I could edit the registry the phone would be perfect.

Ok that make sense. So can you sent MMS still? I'm very close to buying this phone for at&t but without MMS and Internet Sharing, I might not, unless you or someone gets it solved. I wish I was a developer.
I tried it again for ****s and Giggles. I got tethering to work!
Am going to play with MMS next
Awesome job man! Keep it rolling. You just made me one more time closer to getting this phone ? Remember to write everything down ?
Root Tool works perfectly fine for me on an Ativ SE with 8.1.1. Unblock RPC by placing the txt file in the Documents folder, unlock your phone with WPPT, deploy the WPSystem unlocker xap, patch Root Tool using the provided instructions and a file explorer (I use Pocket File Manager, I've used others successfully as well), and then once you open the newly-patched Root Tool go to the install xap section, press install (without setting anything up), and it should say failed, but that's fine. Then you can use the included registry editors (the regular one and the Samsung-specific one) with dword and string values. Works fine for me, including interop unlock (but some deploy attempts result in capability errors because of the new security measures). Bootstrap works but not enableallsideloading (including the 2 versions posted later in the thread). All aesthetic changes work perfectly (small font/large screen, 5 action buttons, change model number, accent colors, etc). You can do pretty much anything you can do with an Ativ S, just remember you're slightly stifled by GDR3 and/or 8.1/8.1.1. Let me know if you have any questions or need help. With the small font/5 action button setup and the newest firmware, it's easily the best WP experience currently available. If we can figure out how to rotate the display 180 degrees, we can just enable the navigation bar (which works fine on the SE) and we'll not only have the usb port on top, but we'll also have access to 3 other buttons that can be remapped via the registry.
@tonbonz posted some info regarding using the SE with mbn creator:

I haven't attempted anything with this information yet, but I may later this week (possibly tonight), and I'll be sure to report the results when I do.
I'll be posting any info I get to this thread, so keep an eye on it:

Also, in regards to the potential issue of new updates breaking exploits, I've found an update lineage that results in the latest OS (8.1.1, OTA) with the stock/GDR3 FW (including the gdr3 diagnosis app, which is different from the 8.1 version). That isn't necessary yet, but it may be in the future and we can always flash back to gdr3 to get there.
Hey G.moe, thanks for the info, so is your MMS & Internet Sharing working with your ATIV SE then?
I managed to get my Internet sharing and MMS working, except I when I recieve an MMS it says file no longer available on server. I think I missed a setting somewhere.
does anyone have any idea where to directly edit the MMS settings in the registry?
That's good to hear man! You're getting there. Your progress is making me a day closer to buying this phone ;D I hope G.Moe can help you out.
GTF696, any luck on the MMS working yet?

Hi. I am using Ativ SE in India, everything is fine but for data i am getting only 2g speeds
I can even launch field test, looks like its blocked
Kindly help me
I just recently purchased an Ativ SE for use on T-Mobile. Like many of you I have been scouring the web for the best solution for the MMS fix as well so it gives me hope to know that through the registry editing it seems you've made some significant headway GTF696. From what I've been coming across this does seem like the most likely way to get this going especially since Verizon has already been duped in this on other devices like the Lumia Icon. Also I've come across a few post that mention having solved the issue and want to know if any one can confirm the method. I'm a new user so I can't post link but if you search "[Q&A] [Research and Reference] Samsung ATIV SE (SM-W750V) – Research and Development Apktop" in google the first link is from someone saying their method on how they setup the registry to workaround the MMS issue. Hope this is actually helpful and useful for all of us and gets us a step closer to fixing this issue
it's not perfect but the ATIV SE, after registration editing, does 100% work on T-Mobile. Unfortunately Verizon had Samsung heavily modify the OS and remove features that allow for APN Modification. The Methods I used should work with any GSM carrier however what you specifically need to do will be carrier specific. If you search for ATIV SE on the forum you should be able to find everything needed. Unfortunately, while the ATIV SE is one of the best windows phones available it's under valued, under supported, and Verizon made it a pain in the ass to use unless it's on their network. I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone, not even Verizon customers, for that reason.
The general idea of what I did was wipe the phone phone, Flashed the original Rom, upgraded the device Over the Air, and then installed the registry editor and customized a few strings. All of which has been talked about in detail on other posts. You HAVE to have an SD card.
