Installing roms - HD2 General

hi there, i am new to windows mobile, could u explane me how to install different roms for the htc hd2 please? i ll get the phone very soon thanks.

take a look at the blackstone forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
it should be the same precedure...and there you have a step by step tutorial.
its extremely easy but the first time you should be very careful. If you do a mistake, your phone might be bricked but if you do it right, you will see how easy it is and you can do it on a regular basis to get the newest build updates.
in short
you use HSPL to break the lock
then you download whatever rom you like and click on the RUUWrapper.exe file...then a couple of oks and a couple of checkmarks...and its done.

Actually the problem is that there is no hard SPL available.
We have to wait until someone create it...

lets count on olipro and cmonex to releasing HSPL.
RIGHT NOW. NO WAY TO FLASHING ROM untill you have an engineering gold card or third party flashing machine.

Some help for beginner

Dear all,
First of all, many congratulations for the great forum and thanks for all the support given here.
Now, I recognise that problems similar to mine have been discussed elsewhere, so I apologise for opening a new post, however with all the material that I could find, I got a little bit lost, so here is the story.
Some 5 days ago, the screen on my HTC Elf stopped responding to any sort of touch. The green, red and action buttons were working but no touch screen.
I have read several posts, and concluded that one possible problem was a corrupted ROM, so I downloaded latest Onyx ROM and installed it. Phone was upgraded successfully and screen started to work again.
However, the first time I switched it off and then turned it on again, it did not boot up. It gets to the point where it displays Smart Mobility and then switches itself off. The orange light then comes on for about 6-7 seconds, then off for 1-2 seconds, and then on again......
Now it does not seem to be able to charge, but if I switch it on with the camera button on I am able to get to the ROM screen (the 'rainbow screen'), so I have hope that it is not dead.
What can I do to attempt to revive the phone please? Is there a sort of 'format' that can be given so that one can start flashing ROM, etc. from scratch?
Many thanks.
PS: Except for the above, I consider myself as a total beginner in this area.
Hearing that the touchscreen started working again after flashing the ROM, I would conclude it's a software-issue.
In the rainbow-screen, what SPL does your phone run? If it ends with 'cmon', you've installed HardSPL. That means you can flash your phone from the rainbow-screen. Given that your phone won't boot, you should try to flash a new ROM from the rainbow-screen. But first, you have to confirm that you've installed HardSPL.
Good luck!
@mrqips - many thanks for your reply.
The screen says that:
IPL 2.20.0002
SPL 1.11.0000

Sorry Buddy.. It seems that you didn't use HardSPL, unfortunately you won't be able to flash any other ROMs..
Yet.. You might be able to use the Gold Card Method.. Give it a try and see what would happen..
Another point is.. I'm very interested to know how did you flash Onyx ROM.. without using HardSPL nor USPL (as obvious from your IPL), I would say that you used the "White Screen Method" which is by the way.. the least safest way..
Hope That Helped...
Thanks for your feedback.
Actually, I happened to be reading the post by @sbettencourt in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595856&highlight=smart+mobility
Here, a step-by-step approach is given to recover the phone:
"1º [PRJ] Unbricker ROM discovered (wildcard CID and Model ID)
2º Pick any shipped ROM from this thread:
If you have one P3450 -> here
If you have one P3452 -> here
After this, with luck and good work you recover the phone...
3º Then you must do CID_Unlock... You can search how to do it on Wiki or if you want i got one steps how to do it right here and you can see one video with cid_unlock on my signature..." (pasted from the thread)
I did Step 1, and updated it with the unbricker ROM using romupdateutility, and the phone was recovered! It could load, get to Windows Mobile, etc.
Then, unfortunately, when I did Step 2 (mine is a P3450) so I downloaded a ROM from the page indicated, I tried to update the shipped ROM using romupdateutility, but as soon as it got to 2% it failed saying that the vender ID is invalid.
Now, I don't seem to be able to update it with anything - not even the unbrick ROM. What a shame I almost go there.....

You put the shipped ROM in the same folder with RUU??? Why??? You don't need to do that...
You only need to double click on shipped ROM and the installation process begins...
@sbettencourt,
actually yes what I did was to click on the update directly.
I downloaded the file RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1R_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_RED_Ship_Reduced.exe and executed that directly.
However, now, even this one is stopping at 2%.
Is there any hope, or have I destroyed the phone?
Thanks.
If you can't flash the Shipped ROM, you have now to try the Gold Card... Follow the steps in that Gold Card thread...
Hello everyone,
I finally managed to revive the device, by flashing it with a 'correct' shipped ROM, which did not give any errors on updating. Big thanks for all your support - you are the best!
As this starts to get addictive, and because I am now running a ROM version which dates to 12/11/2007 (2.27.468.1B WWE), what are the suggestions for upgrading the ROM please? My device is an ELF0100.
Thanks again.
Coool Now try to keep him alive
Very true
I managed to flash it with Onyx Ultimate 4.8 (10/07/2009) and it seems to be performing splendidly.
Thanks for all your help.

New ROM for T-Mobile (UK) help needed

Hello.
This is my first post, so please be kind to me!
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get my head around what to do in order to flash my HD2 which is on the t_mobile network
The original rom 1.43 i think is driving me crazy and I now dont care if I change the rom and it invalidates the warenty!
In order to HSPL I need to SPL first, but will my device allow this?
I've read through so many threads that I am completely confused and dont know which way to turn, never mind which thread to re-read.
Can someone point me to the sspl, HSPL to upgrade to 1.66
Thanks
Glyn
oh its the 512 version
you are over confusing yourself.
download hspl 2
instal it - choose whichever hspl you like (may as well go for 2.08.hspl)
flash whatever rom you like from usb. (don't forget to flash a compatible radio either before or straight after.)
Thanks for your reply......
so downloan the HSPL from here?
'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477'
and as I run the program I'll get the option of which version to install?
What should I look for to make sure that the radio is compatible with the rom?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance
Glyn
best thing you can do is to read a lot. No need to do enerything in one mad dash.
get HSPL2 from HERE - end of the first post (but read the post, dont just skip to download, )
run it as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
for best results use a usb port on the back of your PC (i.e one directly on teh motherboard, not an external usb slot) it will ask what version you want to install. just go for 2.08.hspl (not 2.08.0000) and let it do its thing. the authors say you should match the version to the rom (so 1.43.hspl for roms that are 1.43 or 1.48, 1.66.HSPL for 1.6 based roms, etc, but it isn't critical, most will run on any HSPL, so dont go changing every time you flash a new rom, no need. If it doesnt work then change it.)
As for radio tips, a radio with .51. in the number, (eg 2.09.51.03) will NOT work with any rom that has the 576meg ram, enabled.
If you flash a rom and all you get when you restart is a grey screen, chances are the radio doesnt match. Boot to bootloader and flash the radio.
But most of all, read stuff.
What about shipped rom's that are .exe files? Do they include radios with it? Also, is there a post you can point me to that has a list of compatible radios with different rom's?
that's where reading comes in. the whole process has so many variants that there is no simple "a b c" that covers everything.
yes the exe includes radio (and also spl if you use sd card to flash -stay away from sd card, use usb and if anything goes wrong you just boot to bootloader and re flash)
the chefs give you all the infoyou need in the first couple of posts. the sticky threads in the rom development section will tell you how to do everything, and any problem you encounter has beenwritten about already. so read, search and read.
I suggest you flash Stock WWE 1.66 ROM first so you can have a feel of how much improvement
has been done from 1.43
you can download it in HTC website.
Thanks for your help so far..
I would like to go for the 1.66 official ROM first, so I'll find that on here first and find the exe file so I dont have to mess about with compatible radio's.
Just before I HSPL it, I would like a copy of the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM, so better get searching.
Thanks again
Glyn
the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM is on HTCs website so get it from there as a backup
THANKYOU!!
Thankyou so much for your help and guidance.
Last night I decided to just do it - the phone was so poor I couldn't take it anymore.
3 hours from start of backing up, to installing HSPL2, to flashing with 1.66, anf then restoring data
I cant believe the transformation - I am so pleased I didnt throw it at a wall!!!
So a massive thanks to the members of this community
im in the same boat... got a stock uk hd2 on tmobile and wasn't to flash a new rom but the information is overwhelming and im scared I will flash a wrong rom and kill my phone :0)

theres nothing to it. the 'normal' hd2 which you do have, is about the safest phone to flash in the world today, with HSPL2. The 'radios killing phones' problem that started last week is specific to the t mobile US model only, , the one with 1 gig rom.
If you install HSPL on your phone, and then only flash over USB, the very worst that will happen (from a software point of view) is that the phone stops at a grey screen, and/or only boots into bootloader, so you boot into bootloader, you flash something else, and it's fixed.
The T Mo UK stock rom is available to download as backup, (as is o2 and voda for anyone looking) in the 'LEO official roms' thread in rom development, first post, first link, first folder (1.43)
At any time, you can flash that rom from sd card (look it up if you need to) and restore everything, spl, radio and rom, , to factory settings.
In all honesty, so long as you are careful, methodical, don't pull out USB cables halfway through, laptop battery dies, etc , then you are more likely to get bricked from some freak incident, like , umm, battery dieing, heh.
Fear not! be smart, be careful, try to understand what you are doing and why at each step, read up on what an spl is, and the job is , as they say, sorted.

Saw on youtube that i have to format my SC card

What did I do to my new LEO????

Well I got my new Leo 13 days ago and I've tried to make the stock ROM work to my satisfaction but between the T-Mo junk installed and terrible battery life I decided it was time to try a cooked ROM...
So I read and read and read some more...It's not my first run at this but I wanted to understand everything so I didn't end up with a $449 paperweight.
This morning I download and installed the HSPL-1024....No problems, went just as the instructions said....
I then download a 1024 T-Mo tested/approved Energy Rom and I install it on my LEO.... No problem everything went as it should. I played with the rom and wanted to try another one with a different look so I found another 1024 LEO Rom, the RoMEoS4 or something like that.... Anyway, that install went just fine...
After installing both cooked ROMS I noticed I was having freezing/locking up issues and had to keep soft reseting so after several hours of it locking up I decided to just revert back to the stock T-Mo USA rom.
I then went on here and found the exact shipped rom I had originally (I had documented the versions I had prior to HSPL and the cooked rom's)
http://beta.vbnfiles.com/index.php?...08.50.08_2_Ship.zip&directory=xmoo/Leo/TMOUS&
Instructions on here clearly explained how to revert back (for warranty purposes) so I downloaded the exact stock rom, extracted it to my desktop and renamed the nbh file leoimg.nbh.... I then copied it to a formatted 8gb SDcard and inserted it into the phone.
Instructions said to hold the Volume down botton and the Power button until it boots into the bootloader and then begins to install off the card. I did this exactly and shortly after it began loading off the card it went back to the bootloader and said "Upgrade Rom Code Error, Please try again" it then goes to a gray screen that says "Loading" and stays there...stuck.
Here's a video of what it does when I try to load off the sdcard.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCD_-EuI1_Q
I have no idea what happened or what to do to get it out of this...
Thanks for your time!
Jess

Put it into bootloader mode, hook it up to your computer with USB, and run to stock image like you did with the cooked roms. That should flash it back to stock. Then, if you want to take the hspl off, you can just run the hspl program again and change it back to your lod spl. No need to use SD card.
Every time a thread like this pops up, I can't help but wish that the "flash from SD card" method and every reference to it could be eradicated from the collective consciousness of this forum and all unwitting participants who fall into this trap... at least long enough to establish that:
1) it isn't a necessary or preferred method to flash.
2) it has the potential to cause stuff like this to happen.

I got those instructions from a very popular chef on here so I was under the assumption that was the only way to revert back from HSPL
I've learned a valuable lesson here.....Leave it the hell alone!!!!

If you can get to the boot loader, then you should be able to fix this pretty easily.
I'd do this:
Get to the boot loader, check the SPL version. Do you have HSPL 2.08?
IF no, install it using HSPL2_1024_RUN, (if you want a custom ROM option), or install the standard SPL if you want to have an "unhacked" HD2, and flash the stock ROM. Done.
IF HSPL 2.08 is installed and you want it like that to install custom ROMs, then I'd do the following, just for good measure:
run MTTY/task29 to clean out all the old stuff (see my sig line)
flash the TMOUS 2.08 Radio
flash a custom TMOUS compatible ROM

No, the new version of HSPL (HSPL2_1024_RUN) has an option to re-install the standard SPL. If I wanted to do that, i'd definitely use HSPL2_1024_RUN to do it.

I did try to reinstall the HSPL but when I try I get the below error from the HSPL2 proggie.
Critical Error

Make sure you have the sd card out of the phone. So you get into bootloader mode, and you run the rom update from the computer? Maybe try downloading the stock rom again to make sure it's not corrupted. You should be able to flash it from your computer.
Before flashing any rom I would do task29 and completely wipe the internal memory, so you don't have any issues with left over files from the last rom. That is most likely why you started having problems in the first place. I used to think oh I can just flash a rom and it will work like new, but nope I had more problems I could deal with and almost returned the damn thing. Once you know what you are doing WM is a great OS to have and the only other phone I thought even cam eclose toa WM phone was the iPhone anyG, if i'm allowed to say that here. So, task29 first then enter bootloader and the run your customruu with any rom compatible with the TMOUS HD2 1024. Any questions just holla.

Once task29 is done, pull your battery out and replace after 10-15 secs. Then enter bootloader again and try the stock or custom rom you want. ahh ok, that IS the stock rom, but its a repack of the 2.1 rom, not an official .exe/nbh pack. (Well, my kitchen wont import it, says its not official, and it comes with customruu)
However, look for
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
which is the packed ship .exe. (and does open as official in the kitchen)
ill submit this, and see if i can find the link.
EDIT - heres a mirror of

so I'm kinda confused...you say that that you shouldn't flash from the sd card. and im sure you know more about this technically speaking than I do but what confuses me is I've been told and read MANY times by people probably more experience than both of us that flashing from your sd card IS the safest way to flash...im not saying your wrong but it concerns me because that is the method I use mainly for convience.but if this has the potential to destroy my very expensive device that I can't afford to replace I would REALLY like to know and know why. if anybody can guide me here why two different stories and maybe some reasons why one method had a higher chance for problems I would really appreciate it =)

[Q] dont know were to start

don't know were to start i have had my htc hd2 for about 1wk now i have seen folks with android on there phone but i want win7 on mine now i have been reading threw this forum, but i have know were to start, and what would be the best method in putting win7 on my phone with out bricking it,also does every app on the win7 flash work.any info with detailed instructions will help thanks for everyone that reads and helps me out.
Flashing WP7 to your HD is a pretty simple process and takes no more than 10 min. There are detailed installation instructions available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912416
Only trouble is if your phone comes with SPL 3. Then you must downgrade the SPL by flashing an older stock ROM first in order to be able to install HSPL 2.08.
On the other question: I've not seen an app that doesn't work on the HD2 under WP7.
thanx i will check that out

Going back to windows mobile 6.5 from Android- SIMPLE

Hello,
Heres the story:
I sold today my htc hd2 and someone came by to my house to get it and pay. Now i got a message that he cant get used to android. Now I need info for a simple instalation of windows mobile on the htc hd2. Like Getting a windows mobile RUU.exe and simple install it with 1 setup. The phone has hyperdroid, magdlr 1.13, cwm 1.3
I need your answer fast.
David
You can just download the official rom and flash it over usb, it will overwrite everything, HSPL, radio, splash screen, everything back to stock. Or you could do the same with most other wm6.5 roms, but if you're giving it to someone not comfortable with it and you don't want to be their phone support guy for the next however long, I would give them the phone stock, or link them to the proper official rom.
If you have a US T-Mobile HD2 (1024): http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml?
If you have an HTC HD2 (512): http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=2
The above instructions are correct, but did not mention that if you have flashed HSPL and MAGLDR that you will need to flash the stock ROM from an SD card that is under 2Gig in size. Just copy the original ROM file to the card, enter bootloader mode and go from there.
One thing, though - if the person who bought your phone can't get used to Android, he's in bigger trouble than he thinks. I mean, what the hell did he think he was buying? Is it that he can't get used to a PDA phone, a touch screen or does he prefer communicating by carrier pigeon? Rhetorical questions, I know, but geez... what the F did the guy think he was getting, and why is it now your problem?
I'm no expert, but I thought I remembered hearing something about how you weren't supposed to flash the original rom from sd, because it somehow makes it so you can't reflash hspl later if you change your mind.
Not 100% on that by any means.
I know this may involve an extra step, but to avoid usage of SD flashing, you can flash a custom HD2 WM6.xx ROM. Then flash the stock ROM..

That may have been the case in the early stages of HSPL development. If you flashed the wrong rom and got stuck on an spl that was not supported by the HSPL versions out then that was so. This is no longer the case now with all spl versions being able to be HSPL'd.
I gave him an link to an official RUU wm 6.5 NL rom. It's an exe file. I told him he haves to run this exe file in android and if that doesnt work he haves to go to boot menu (holding volume down) and if that's doesn't work he haves to try out the usb flasher option in magdlr. I also gave him the link to this forum post.
here is a simplier way to explain it. i use it sometimes if i forget how to do it...

Hi, New to HD2 but not to flashing ROMs ( Mogul, polaris, TyTN 2) got a second hand TMobile USA yesterday. Came with a nand Android 2.2 install, Magldr v 1.11 and spl 2.08 hspl. I intend to flash back to the stock rom ( latest version T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1 ) so I can dual boot with an sd android install. I also intend to check out some of the custom 6.5 builds along the way.
Have installed HTC sync for Android and and all appears to be good. I can also get a usb connection while in bootloader.
I'm assuming its as simple as the 2nd post but I don't want to brick my new phone on my first day . Would somebody please confirm that I'm not making any obvious mistakes? I gather I will then need will need to flash a new HSPL, which version is recommended for my purposes?
I apologize in advance for asking such a simple question but the HD2 forums are new to me and much larger than those for any of my old phones. I have been reading for most of the past week and think I know what I'm doing but I might be completely wrong.
EDIT
Is anybody out there?
I know that posting in "[GUIDE] Flashing Your First HD2 NAND Android Rom [For Newbs]" would be more appropriate but I can't seem to post in it as I just get a bulletin message saying I don't have permission. This is the closest thread I can find for my question.
Many Thanks in anticipation of a reply
Oh well. No replies. looks like I will just have to give it a go. Will play with some other Nand android builds first and upgrade MAGLDR to 1.13. Will also experiment with different radios to see if I can improve battery life as it is shocking (loses nearly 30% in 7 hours while 'asleep").
BTW I think my current radio is 2.08.50.08 (settings/software information/baseband version - second half of string). Happy to stand corrected if this is not where you find the radio version in android - as I said before I'm new to this OS.
In case anyone is wondering. The reason for multiple posts in a dead thread is to reach the number required to post on the more appropriate development thread.
Hope that does not upset anyone. I do promise to come back to this thread and post how I got on. ie successes, failures, tips etc.
