Hi all!
Now I know that there was a thread regarding the presumed USB Host functionality on the HD2, but that thread seems to be like dead... But now since the finished product has finally landed, I think we should start thinking about it again. Now we all know that the USB Host feature isnt listed officially, but there are rumours flying around suggesting that the feature is available in the HD2's chipset, which means that maybe there is a way to develop drivers for it or something. I remember one of the old HTC devices, which turned out to have USB Hos capabilities which were discovered by the community years after the device sowed up on the market So, in other words, if a possibility of activating this feature exists, souldn't the community start to at least investigate it? That is only my suggestion
Think you are talking about this thread?
Toshiba TG01 has the same Snapdragon platform and provides USB host capabilities. So I am pretty sure will have usb host too or at least some clever guys can extract it from the Toshiba.

Could very well be, I haven't tried. I guess the first one to try will inform the rest I guess
if someone tests it and informs us about it with a positve resulttttt,
i will go to the store and get my self a cableeeeeeee
if it will work, some people can shut up about second camera, they can buy webcam and connect it
Are you talking about using your HD2 as a Harddrive??

I'm also very curious to know if the HD2 has USB-Host support!

No, you still require the driver to get it working which probably won't exist. My Eten M600 works with mouse, keyboard, hub, harddrive so far.
20mihalko & xmoo, can any of you test TMC on iGo8? I asked in both of your thread but didn't get a reply. It's one of the deal breaker for me to give up the X1

Hi guys,
I'm coming back with the same question in this thread, do Leo have an usb host or maybe like written before we can make it live with specific drivers like the Diamond ?
Thanks for testing
I'm still waiting for mine (the 23rd I presume)
Kindest Regards

Do you think it will be possible to find the toshiba tg01 drivers for usb host and inlude it to the hd2 device? For what should I have to search on my tg01 and where? Maby the drivers will also work on the hd2?
Hi,
Maybe you have an install cd with your tg01 where you can fing usb host drivers ?

I have read that someone disassembled the HD2 and found out that the USB-Chips (Including HOST feature) of the Toshiba and the HD2 are the same, BUT the HOST-Pins arent connected

The GPS function was disabled in Trinity and may be it will got a chance to re-enable it. But how about the USB Host function? Is there any way to enable it?
u have to buy an htc adaptor
I don't believe it, an adaptor?
I think it will be activated with a rom-update
Energie: source for that comment..?
I too think a rom-update is the thing...
Is their any word about the USB-Host in the new update?
What do you mean by "USB Host" ? I mean, that is hardware related thing so if you want to connect eg. flash disk to Trinity you must have some kind of adapter to do that, am I wrong?

Yeah i think you're wrong.
It was said it was hardware implemented already (just like the GPS) but it just had to be activated with the new rom (just like the GPS)...
Any News anyone?
if we use this device http://cgi.ebay.de/USB-2-0-OTG-On-T...160683QQihZ016QQcategoryZ131881QQcmdZViewItem
does that mean, i can connect my trinity directly to a mobile USB HDD and access say 250 GB of music or pictures or movies?
Guys, STOP. There shouldn't be any USB host in Trinity, because if it has one, where would you find an idiot to buy any other PDA phone??????? That would kill the market. Even without USB host it's one of the best machines around. LOOX T830 was the only machine to have GPS and 3G, but it's a monster...
Trinity is the only PDA to ombine Wi-Fi, BT, 3G (inc. HSDPA), and GPS. Asking for USB host would be to much I'm afraid...
is this something you think or do you have proof?
Cuz this page says the trinity does have USB-OTG...
http://translate.google.com/transla...&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools
Look at the second page, last part....
Well actually I want USB-Host (didnt know Trinity had the ability until today), Fm Radio (still not sure if there is a build in FM Radio Chip but Chinese site states it), and I want Airbag, ABS, DVD reader/writer (double sided ... no, better Blue Ray Disc), a Coffee machine, two bathrooms and an pop out 23 inch screen for TV...
It is a great device.
Well dudes, why do you keep on whining? The topic starter asks a serious question. You all keep posting crap. Please quit it, we all want answers.
I only know that the chip does support USB-OTG, but if it's hardware implemented? We don't know at the moment. But if it is, it's up to HTC to enable it.
Well, can someone explain to me what is USB Host and what good is it for?

I do not see any mention of the HTC Trinity or USB Host.. but that could change
Man, that's exactly what I want to see with this question, many of you don't know either what USB host is and what is it for?! You keep posting things about hidden features in Trinity and moaning about it everyday but actually don't know what good it will get you, very strange.
So, smart guys, what will you do with your "USB Host" enabled Trinity ?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Trinity can act as a Host, you could connect an external HDD to it and transfer files. Or you could connect a memory card reader to empty your camera's card on the move.
Does anyone know of a usb host driver that enables usb host on the X1? Another user reported that the Zeno usb host drivers did not work. Any one tried others with success?
it has been discussed here somewere, and the last thing was all agreed it doesn't have a USB Host!
i hope it's not true, only time will let us know!
Uh... Well... I understand what you are asking for, but I don't know what you want to do with it... What would be the need for a USB host function on a mobile phone

Let's say you have some files on a thumb drive and wanna work on them (.doc , .xls...etc) but you don't have a laptop with you.
Or..Some images on an external HDD you wanna send via email, but no laptop with you...
Or..Show off to your iSheep friends that you can connect usb mouse and keyboard to use on your x1..
Get images off of your digi cam....etc etc
How about pluging in a usb joypad for gaming??
Endless possibilities.
I've recently seen some universal WinMo USB host drivers but the problem with X1 supposedly is that it doesn't power the USB port itself so you might need to power it externally. Dunno if it would really work though.
But you still need a pen drive or ext. hd with mini USB right?

BUT
BUT
BUT
Xperia doesn't have a powered usb. So, the only two ways to get something working are to either connect something with its own power supply, or to use a usb injector. Sadly the first option defeats the whole point of connecting a flash or a mouse and the latter one, well, i haven't had any luck with a suitable injector for the x1.
Good luck.

And as above posts stats, power to the USB.
Is reading on the HTC homepage about HD2 specs.
I need one and was wondering about two things.
Does anyone know if standard microUSB means we can connect micro usb
stuff to the phone if we only have the right drivers?
I can think of two accessoars id would like to connect-
-USB handsfree from touch PRO
-some kind of TV out-cable
And there is one question about the digital compass.
will it be like the one that is on the marked now, were you dont have to
have GPS connected?
ps. when will HD get an own section on XDA? after all it is official and all now, and would be better to know were to post this kind of questions. ds.

Straight up, before we even start talking about drivers, there's no way you would be able to phsically connect accessories from the Touch Pro to the HD2 as the Touch Pro is miniUSB and the HD2 microUSB.

Er, I don't quite understand. What do you mean 'like the one that is on the marked now'?
But I can tell you this, a digital compass has nothing at all to do with GPS. The two are completely different.

We have a magnet on TouchHD, why not a compass?
Hi,
Hats off to all the senior friends who are making lives easy for so many of us
I have a very simple question. The stylus which the company gives with the Touch HD is a magnet. Why can't we have a digital compass using it?
Hope it makes sense
hi guys.. first sorry for my english!
so.. i've an hd2 with rafpigna gingerbread equipped, now i need to use an usb keyboard on my phone. i've searched on the web and i've readed something about usb host driver for nexus one.. now i need to know if it's possible to use usb host driver for nexus one on HD2, or if there is a way to plug an usb keyboard.. i need that to write sms and email. thanks!
try a bluetooth keyboard... with a rom what is supporting the bluetooth hid
USB Hosting isn't available on Android on the HD2. Did see something that Cotulla (HD2 God) had done, he was able to use the micro-USB as a host port, but that was like a year ago, and I don't think it progressed much.
i've seen cotulla post.. but can't find any kind of download or tutorial.. there is a post where cotulla says that he's did it.. and tell how to make the cable.. but anything else.. maybe cotulla can reply this thread to make us thing more clear!
Up to now USB is only available with ubuntu, works great.
I found no working driver for WM or Android.

under windows mobile, just plug an usb keyboard by and usb-to-microusb adapter.. and it works fine.. the thing i don't understand is.. it's possible or not on android.. someone say yes.. someone say no..
Why don't you just try it and see if it works?
because is a long process for what i've seen... and maybe someone knows if it works or not.. btw i'm trying..
Following some internet guide... the result is... my pc's motherboard literally explode! LoL.. i think i leave this thing untill there isn't a good and clear tutorial!

Has it been done already? Not to my knowledge.
'Theoretically' you should be able to get this working. Like Arrrghhh said, anything is possible. I did get a usb otg cable for the rhodium (well, not FOR the rhodium, but 'theoretically' it should work) and found that this function is supported in the specs for our processor chip.
There are drivers and a pretty good source of information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480899
I never advanced past the point of realizing that while our phone 'probably' has the hardware to receive input from usb devices it cannot provide them with power to function. You seem to need to use an externally powered usb hub for those drivers to do you any good, and there really isn't anything On-The-Go about carrying around a usb hub and its power adapter! So it was at that point that I gave up. But, there is probably all the information you need in the thread I posted above to get you started.
Please post your findings if you have success/failure

That thread isn't talking about host mode, that thread is talking about transferring files via USB mass storage mode....
At any rate, I'm pretty sure the software simply supports it. Getting the hardware to talk properly is the hard part (again, as far as I understand it...)

I'm not sure what you need, again there's probably quite a bit of legwork that you'll need to do in order for it to talk on our devices. I don't think you can just "use" the LEO drivers in this case - however, adapting them might be a good place to start.

I thought I read somewhere that the TP2 can not provide power. You had to use a powered usb hub + device to have a chance at getting it working.
The downside being that you had all this stuff to haul around if you wanted to use an OTG cable.
