720p showoff video - HD2 General

Yeah i know its a demo video that comes with omnia hd's.
But it works perfectly on our hd2's.
Nice video to show to your friends
http://forums.samsungi8910omnia.com...ions/1853-helicopter-demo-video-download.html

YAY! Thanks a lot for this. I have seen this running on an Omnia Pro and it looked really cool. It really might be a great demo video to look at on the HD2.
One thing though: This is no 720p video. It's only 360p and it even gets upscaled on the HD2. If there would be problems playing such a small resolution source on the HD2 I would seriously doubt HTC until the end of all times.

I ran a benchmark test using a topaz with Leo rom Tess 3.9 + 2.5 sense,
video/audio information (according to VLC on laptop):
640*360, 30 FPS, mp4v
mp4a 44100 Hz
best playback in order
1. coreplayer (default settings, installed to internal memory)
2. wm player
3. htc album
coreplayer benchmark results;
avg speed: 77.10%
vid frames: 2995
audio samplle: 4393489
amount of data: 47521 kb
bench............- .................. original:
time: 02:09.487 ............... 01.39.833
frame rate: 23.130 ........... 30.000
sample rate: 33929........... 44100
data rate: 3.01 Mbit/s .......3.90 Mbit/s
conclusion: rather better sound with stuttering video than no stuttering video but stuttering sound (when CP ran test)
hope you enjoyed this little test, and lets see what the big league has to say about how it's supposed to run

on Toshiba TG01:
Average Speed: 194.17%
Benchmark Data Rate: 7.57 Mbit/s
Original Data Rate: 3.90 Mbit/s

^so Toshiba is 2-3 times as quick as HD2? lol

No its 2-3 times faster than a topaz running a leo ROM, which is to be expected.

I am downloading some movies right now in Mp4 format HD quality, 1280x720, i want to see how it looks on the HD2.
I dont think it should be a problem for this thing to play a 1.4 gb file, right?
BTW the Helicopter movie looks great on this beauty

Good luck , first of all i could not play those files.
Even coreplayer does not play anything bigger then 1008 pixels (program limit)
And second , it doesnt really make sense to play a higher resolution then the display can handle.

okay
what do you recommend?
i couldn't find a lower resolution.
convertion? with?

oh...ok thanks a lot for clarification.
I should have kept reading carefully.

No, but as some have mentioned -it would be nice if the HD2 COULD play higher resolutions as you wouldn't have to convert before transfering to the phone. I myself don't have so much of a problem with doing a conversion -but I can see the wish for just transfering what ever files you already have -and they'll be able to play..

You could try this for conversion;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478050
Or this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
First one works best for me. I get some weird artifacts on the other converter. Don't know why..

thnx
gonna give it a try,
thanks a lot
watching movies on this thing in the car would be nice i think
i convert it, i try it, i watch it, i like it.
picture and sound on this beauty, is a beauty
thnx niknik76

thanks for the video however doesn't play well on my coreplayer. i played on win media looks great. on my other phone(vibrant) looks sick.

thanks for the vid, looking forward to trying this, i've not seen a movie on my phone yet......

FYI, this isn't 720p. I doubt very much it would play any HD stuff without proper hardware.

hi everybody, ever since i read RacerII's 720p showoff video thread, i found the original helicopter show off video. it's 1080p video can be downloaded on here.

i checked the RacerII's video the resolution is not enough, format settings is not good enough. I believe HD2 can play a further advanced video. so i use TMPGEnc.XPress converter and put up a higher settings for this video. HD2 plays this video very very smooth. you can see the settings below:

continuing testing yesterday. use NVIDA Cuda (H.264) to encode my videos. HD2 has the ability of playing 800x480 with bitrate of 3900kbps 30fps(only on small file) it's very smooth, pretty clear. BUT! a complete movie(14gb's 1080p blue-ray ISO movie) will get as large as 2.33GB after the encoded. wmp or htc album won't open it, because its so large file?
Nov. 16 GMT+8
for the settings of the following is very ok to play on htc hd2 (even in large file)
resolution: 800x480
Container: MP4
Codec: H.264, 2-pass
format Profile: HIGH
format Level: 4
Bitrate: 2000kbps-2400kbps
bitrate mode: constant/variable both ok
CABAC: On
scan type: progressive
frame rate: 30fps
Nice , and it already looked very good.
This is great news. What software did you use to play this video?

Hi JohnQ, could you please encode/try a sample with Cabac on, you might have to play it with Coreplayer though as Album or WMP probably can't handle it, it will improve the quality of the video. Coreplayer should be able to play it smoothly, even without hardware acceleration.

CorePlayer benchmark was published already. What worries me a bit more is that they claim in that review that the hardware accelerated HTC Album doesn't support .avi, contrary to what xmoo here is saying.

i dont know . all i could guess is the open gl2.0 issue. but im not sure.
i converted my MKV 1080p videos to mp4 800x482
i play it in album application
and i watched carlitos way and my bloody valentine on it, not even a little bit of lag on it.
and the details in the video and sound is really great.

Thanks for testing this, that's a disappointment. Did it lag in HTC album and WMP as well, just not as bad as in Core Player or would you say it was basically smooth?
I think we shoulsn't conclude HD2 playback performance by using Core Player, As all of us know Core Player doesn't use hardware graphics acceleration at all.
Only player we have left to use is which ship with device in this case WM Player & HTC Gallery Player.
I'll be getting mine tomorrow, and am going to push the device to its limit.
I remember my old Nokia E90 could play 800X352 with bitrate of 1.9Mbit 23 or 25 fps. Am expexcting HD2 to hit atleast 3.8Mbit on same frame rate.
I always use NVIDA Cuda (H.264) to encode my videos.
I wont be testing 1280X720 videos as deivce can only show up 800X480.
Lets come tomorrow.

YES, Im testing it on HTC ALBUM/WMP. I already tested yesterday. use NVIDA Cuda (H.264) to encode my videos. JohnQ, the bitrate for 800x480 H.264 on the HD2 can be a lot lower and you will still get excellent quality and much smaller file sizes.
Taking the chance to sound like a broken record, does HTC Album or WMP play a H.264 mp4 with Cabac on and a bitrate of say 1200 kbps smoothly?
Thanks for answering my questions.

Hmm how about if you use SUPER to encode and use DIVX insted of H.264, I mean MP4 as contanir with DIVX codes at same bitrate.
I would try less bitrate if i use H.264 to keep the size small.
Also we have to remember that device has very new firmware.

Encoding MKV Files for Playback

Hello Everyone,
After much testing/researching, I have finally found the best solution to encode .MKV files to .MP4 for flawless playback on the HD2 using MediaCoder. I have tried many of the other methods and settings provided by others on this forum and many of them were good, but simply took too long or sometimes caused choppy playback on the HD2.
Note: These settings will work for any video files, I just happen to use .MKV for their quality.
MediaCoder Settings:
Format: H.264
Mode: Average bitrate @ 1200Kbps
x264 Profile: Baseline
Audio encoder: FAAC
Audio Format: LC-AAC
Audio mode: Average bitrate @128Kbps
Container: MP4
Resize: 800x450
Aspect ratio: Set PAR 1:1
With these settings I have tested 12 different files ranging from 500MB-1.8GB in size(720p quality) and the largest took 34 minutes on my dual core CPU (intel i5). First tried playing the files with HTC Album player and CorePlayer and the results weren't very good and they included a lot of choppiness. After reading some others success with WMP, I decided to give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it played the .MP4 files beautifully and without a single hiccup.
Some of you may already have solutions for encoding videos for playback on the HD2, but I have found these settings to be perfect for anyone who wants to encode HD .MKV files.
I want to thank everyone who has contributed to finding the best method of converting/encoding files for playback, but I can honestly say these settings will give you amazing quality and smooth playback, even in the most intense action scenes. Give it a try!
Thank you very much as this was one of my next endeavors to work on and you just saved me tons of time!

Not a problem, I honestly spent hours upon hours encoding with different settings and players to get it to run smoothly. One thing I haven't tried though is encoding 1080p files. If you do, let me know how they run!
Sure will - I have very few 1080 files to try right now (may be 1 or 2).
+1
Someone should sticky this, perfect playback on my HD2 with these settings!
Thank you so much.
Just saved me a ton of time figuring this out. Used for a couple of videos and they play great. Thanks
The only change I made is resizing to 800x480. Flawless playback.

Tried these settings and although they were good, took about an hour to encode, longer than the length of the video in the first place. The settings I posted are to encode video files quicker, and with MediaCoder and not TMPGEnc.XPress.
Different settings, different program
Those bit-rates seem awfully low to me, especially if you're not using CABAC. Do you not get better results with bit-rates >2000kb/s?

There's also a different thread for video encoders, but too lazy to look it up. Guess it's better to have a new thread every now and then instead of having 50 new "How do I get my HD2 to play videos smoothly?" threads show up every other week.
My encodes take about 5-10minutes tops. Only when doing a 2 pass encode does it take longer and there's really no point in doing those anymore unless you aim for a specific file size.
Might as well post the settings for the T-Mobile Transformers movies here(courtesy of xeebot):

No point in going beyond 2000Kbps as you won't see the difference and the files becomes too big.
Using a crf value of 21 usually results in a bitrate of around 1000-1500kbps.
What exact settings are you using to encode files in 5-10 minutes? Also, what are the file sizes? I am all for learning new ways to do things, I would love to be able to encode in that short amount of time. Let me know!

Depends on the source and of course encoding settings. I usually do a basic [email protected] Encode with --crf 23 and --ref 1(no weighted B-frames and no I-frames) for TV shows and [email protected] --crf 21 --ref 2 for movies. I also use lanczos4 to downscale to 800 x XXX.
Encoding also relies pretty heavily on the hardware involved so the better the hardware the faster the encoding speed. Currently running my i7 at 4Ghz and cpu utilization is 100%(for all eight threads). The software also makes quite a difference and I noticed that MeGui was the fastest encoder of the ones I tried(and it's pretty easy to use).

Sure thing i'll try that out. I'm running an i5 at 2.2 GHz and many of the other encoding methods took ages to run at 100% CPU usage (2 pass). Thanks for the info, I love learning new and more efficient ways of doing things!

2 pass and constant quality use the same algorithm so the quality is exactly the same.
How do I get .avi files to play in my HD2
What converter program should I use or are you all using? Any good free ones?

Video Format

What exactly does the video format support by the 10.1? I tried installing .avi, .mpeg and I wasn't able to play the videos. Most of the .avi are Blueray copies. Or anyone know a good video converter for Mac?
use handbreak to convert your .avi files , i do know that the galaxy tab 10.1 plays nice with .mp4 files
good luck

I second this. You can stream .avi from your computer if you prefer.
moboplayer provides a bunch of soft-decoding codec ,which will take care of most video if hardware-decoding won't work. just try this app first and see if that helps .
Sent from my SHW-M110S using XDA App
You can also use rock player to play AVI files and such.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I've used both the stock & mobo (haven't tried rock yet, I'll have to give it a shot), & the stock player plays just fine with h.264 & mp4. In fact, I played the exact same video on both, & I thought the picture looked the best on the stock player. Of course, that requires you to re-encode most likely, which kinda defeats the purpose of having the avi encapsulation in the first place... up to you in the end--let us know how it works out.
Can somebody please test this clip?
I can play it perfectly on my 7" Galaxy TAB GT-P1000 but all the Tegra2 Honeycomb tablets I've tried it on will either stutter badly of not play at all!
I just can't imagine why a previous generation Single-Core CPU can play it without any problems using hardware acceleration and the Tegra2 Can't !?!

Download Handbrake then go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825
You can follow the directions or simply download and import the 720p high profile preset.
If you want to stream video, a combination of uPnPlay (free in market), moboplayer and ps3 media server has worked fairly well for me.

We don't want to re-encode! We want to play! Other less powerful devices can play almost everything without re-encoding! Why can't the Tegra2 do it?
To reencode is missing the point. It's a clip I encoded for a video survey in the Xoom forum. No Tegra 2 tablet can play it smoothly. You can blame poor NVidia driver, HC's beta-ness, or the crummy Tegra 2. That's just the way it is.
BTW, 1080p high profile is simply not in the Tegra 2 specs, drivers notwithstanding. If you want 1080p HP, buy another tab.
BTW, the entire suite of clips used for the survey is here. Tegra 2 (on 3.1) can play 720p HP and 1080p BP. On the Xoom, the stock player is hard-capped to 1080p BP. If you play MP or HP, the stock player will error out or crash.

That is something you'll have to ask Nvidia and Google, I don't know the answer to that.
However, transcoding will guarantee the video to work. And you can queue up files in Handbrake and walk away.
So, you can either complain on forums, or use the solution presented and watch 720p high profile video on the tab.

You don't need or have to convert anything really (maybe except mkv's) if you just use MoboPlayer to watch them.
If you prefer to use the Gallery to watch videos, then it's best you convert to mp4 files.
On my Mac i have a myriad of converters, from VisualHub (no longer in development), Handbrake (free), WinX HD Video Converter, my three regulars.
There are tons out there.
i've been having trouble with a 720p x264 file about 1.2GBs.
the video plays but it is very laggy/choppy and the audio isnt in sync with the video playback.
i've checked that the files played fine on my computer.
should i convert these files too?
Thank you all for your great tips. Will definitely try it out when I get the chance to this evening. Highly appreciate it guys! CHEERS!!!
Regardless of whats being said over at the Xoom fourm, the GST as of now can only play back 720p/1080p H.264 Base Profile, smoothly. So far from my tests the GST doesn't support AC3 Audio, so the stock player will not play it.

I started this thread and there is useful information in it in relation to H.264 playback on the GST.

HC 3.1 supports 720p high profile and I haven't had any problems using the Handbrake settings posted over at the TF forum.
In that thread I've seen people trying to solve some judder problems with certain clips, but tbh I'm not a video guru and the conversation is over my head. But as I've said, I have yet to experience that for myself even with movies with lots of action and fast camera pans.

I had just about given up hope trying to find the right combination of settings via Handbrake to encode my DVDs so they would play smooth on my GTab. I have come close but just hadn't hit it. I then downloaded your clip from your link - 1280 baseline - and was pleasantly surprised by not only the absolute smooth playback but by the picture quality.
I have since tried your VDisc_023 but the playback isn't absolutely smooth. It is close but not quite there.
So here's my question, can you supply either the change I need to make in VDisck_023 (I noticed it is set to High, perhaps just changing it to Base?) to equal your 1280_Baseline Avatar clip I mentioned above or the complete settings I can use in the GUI Handbrake interface? If I had my choice, I would prefer using the GUI but at this point, I will take what I can get!
Thanks so much for showing me I can get smooth playback with a terrific picture!

The music video is playable with dice. There are a few seconds which are not smooth with [email protected], but it's okay.

Its FREE
BsPlayer superiority of the dicePlayer is that the Bs is FREE
Nice find. Playback seems to be better than with MX Video Player because it doesn't skip the audio track during harder to decode portions. I think this is due to the "frame drop" feature.
However, I have one huge problem that makes this app unusable to me, I cannot seek. When I try to seek it just goes right back to the beginning. Is anyone else having this problem or do I have something set wrong in options?
Does this have subtitle srt support?
Yes it does.Local and online too
thanks to bringing this great player up, I'm using it now and I think it's better than moboplayer.
Haven't played too much with this yet but so far I like it a lot. It's also the only free player I have tried that sorts of the bottom bar like the stock player does.

[MOD CAMERA] Recording video with STABLE FPS / STABLE FRAMERATE. Android ICS 4.0.3

Hello everyone ..
First, sorry for my bad English.
Exist the mod for record videos with fps stable and not variable fps?
I have a problem to edit the videos created by my galaxy s2.
After editing, the audio is not synchronized with the video, I think it is a problem of variable frame rate.
I'm searching a solution to force the application of the camera to record video with fps stable.
I have ICS 4.0.3 stock rom I9100XXLPW, I have root, I have recovery.
I have already tried LgCamera and other applications. Without result.
Please do not link to other threads because I can not read and understand full pages in English.
Thank you.
nothing????
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2
You say the problem only becomes apparent after editing. What app / software are you using to edit the video?
Sounds more likely that it is the re-encoding that is de-syncing the audio rather than the video

No, the audio is not synchronized already in the preview of video editing programs. Just when importing the video into video editing program. Not only after creation.
The problem is in the video recording method of the ICS software. (VARIABLE FPS).
I used many video editing programs (even I had thought the problem was the program) .. Pinnacle Studio 15, AVS Video Editor, VirtualDub, Avidemux, VideoDub.. etc. ..
I am sure the problem is the variable framerate, because I tried to register with another phone that registers with stable fps, and do not have these problems.
So..
You know methods to force the application to record in stable fps?
Exist a mod?
These are the info of file (recording with Galaxy s2 ICS 4.0.3 with stock rom samsung LPW):
Frame rate mode : Variable
Frame rate : 29.926 fps
Minimum frame rate : 11.027 fps
Maximum frame rate : 46.320 fps
Standard : NTSC

Camera drivers are locked down. Try recording in optimum conditions and in a lower quality (not resolution) and see if that helps at all. The video/audio codec combination are adapted to a variable framerate so the fact that it's not syncing properly makes me think it's your video editor.

No, the problem is not my video editor.
I am sure of what I say, because before making a thread on xda I did endless research.
I already tried with low quality and even with low resolution.
THE PROBLEM IS VARIABLE FPS.
I read that there are custom rom with mod camera with stable fps.
For example this: [Neutrino system] PFittech ROM GTX AND 4.04 - Neutrino - faster than light - 8.7.2012
Report this characteristics:
Camera Mod
video bit rate increased to 20Mbps - 1080p
stable 30FPS
audio format AAC
So exist a method for mod camera..

That's based on CM9 and AOKP. Flash that ROM and see if your problem will get fixed. I've tried to mod the camera on our device. I've raised the bitrate to over 40Mbps and tried everything to force framerates. It DOESN'T work. Our camera firmware is only going to work with Variable Framerate. Flash CM9 see if it works. If not, then stop asking for it since it doesn't exist.

You can put the info of your file?
I withdraw the information with software Format Factory. --> Format Factory
Home --> Advanced --> Media File Info
What firmware you have? And what software do you use to edit video?
The only Problem what I have is, that my Phone camera not really focus but its ok
I import the file directly into Sony Vegas 11. Done
I have exactly the same problem. The video from GB was also variable FPS so that is not it, I guess.
When playing a recorded vid, fine. When importing into Adobe Premiere Elements 10, I get the video/audio lag....
Anybody please?
I now use MediaCoder on desktop to convert video from phone to fixed frame rate. Adobe can then work properly with the vids.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9100 met Tapatalk
I use without any problems Sony Vegas 11 and I am happy. There is no any problem with desync, FPS are stable ~29.95 to ~30.10. Both in lgCamera and system camcorder as well. I am on ICS 4.0.3 NeatROM.
There is no any mod for stable, fixed FPS value. There will always be some deviation.
I saw the same issue with other editing programs as well. With GB video's no issues....maybe time to switch to Sony Vegas as this seems to properly support the recorded vids.

I solved this problem by uploading the raw file to YouTube and then downloading it back into Premier Elements 10. It then edits without loss of audio sync. I have not found that any other conversion (including MediaCoder) that will solve the problem but maybe there is a setting for MediaCoder that would work. I found also that Sony Vegas Pro 11 (trial version) does not keep the audio in sync.
I've been searching quite a lot for some solution to get picture and sound synced in Adobe Premiere when I recording with my Note Edge and on the end I found perfect app which records in constant frame rate.
I have tested the app just shortly today and everything was fine after exporting the video from the Premiere.
Here is the link on the google play
Buddy I guess your talking about bs editing software like premerie pro and believe me I know the struggles, I'm sorry to say that your only options are 3rd party software. A software called "handbrake" which allows you to convert your video to a constant frame rate.... another option which is a pretty simple method and possibly even better, is "OBS", simply play the video in vlc player (or whatever player you use to watch movies on your pc) and set up OBS to record screen display or that specific window that your playing the movie it don't matter. Be sure to first edit your settings in obs to save the video in mp4 or avi format, or once again your video editing software won't take it because apparently it's to complicated for these genius that make these video editors to make one that can process any other format or better yet process a video that has variable frame rates.
