Removing scratches from metal under buttons - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I've gotten som scratches on the piece under the hardware buttons, I don't know where they have come from. All of sudden they where there..
Anybody know how to polish or remove them...?

I had a similar thing...i am currently using a silicon case which covers that area...so i'm guessing dirt got in. however, what i did to "repair" it (don't laugh, this worked) was to take a TINY amount of my girlfriend's exfoliating facewash (with tiny granules in it) and just rub the area gently for a while. VOILA! (oh, and i'm guessing one shouldn't over do it. as in, don't scrub till your thumb bleeds)
let me know if that works

Is this silver colored piece below the hardware buttons you refer to actually metallic or plastic colored metallic?

It's genuine anoxidized aluminium
Looks like titanium but it's not.

What if I don't have a girlfriend haha
But thanks a lot for the answers!! I was thinking car polish, but I will try your method..

Good deal, I wondered as it looks like it could be plastic...

DIY scratch protection

I noticed the first scratch on the corner of my Jam today. Since electronics always take the most abuse on the corners, I devised a quick and easy way to protect the corners of my Jam while I'm in Europe for the next 3 weeks. Take electrical tape or clear satin tape and place a piece over the corners. Works best if you cut a slit in the tape so you can fold it around the corner without wrinkles. In all probability the device will land on its corners if dropped or take the most abuse on the corners if scraped against something. Thus, problem solved; I did it to my digital camera too. It doesn't look half bad on either device, and if you can't stand the black corners, just use clear tape. Any tape works as long as the adhesive won't stick to the advice after you remove the tape.
damn that's dead sexy
Damn! Why didn't I think of that????
Why don't you run the tape all the way round? I think it will look somewhat better!...
I'm sorry, but that has to be the stupidest looking thing I've seen in a long time. Why don't you just get a silicon case for about $10 off of EBAY? I mean, if you REALLY need electrical tape and that's all you can find...great. But just get a cheap latex or silicon case such as the ones from JavoEdge.com.
Do you put electrical tape on the front and rear bumper of your car too?
GHETTOOOOOOO
Just curious, what specifically do you expect to happen in Europe over the next three weeks that would necessitate such a precaution when you don't prepare against similar risks at home  ?
hehehehe... Good point JPreston!!!
I don't get it! People seem to get very upset when they discover they scratched the ball mirror on the back of their JAM. Now we have a JAM covered in electrical tape. Should we all carry our devices in the original box? Or better yet never use them to keep them in pristine condition? I am not saying I didn't get a little ticked off when I found a nice big scratch in the corner after a small drop but come on! I think we're all getting a bit too precious. Anyway, to each their own.
Of far more concern is the gunk that gets on the screen from my face every time I hold the JAM to my head! I mean yuck! What the heck is up with that? Is there that much oil on my face??? I just washed it! I gave my phone to my friend the other day to make a call and his face left some sort of super oil on the screen that wouldn't scrub off for several minutes! Its gross and embarassing! I think we need some sort of face oil protector!
Does anybody have any idea for cheap screen protection? I think the prices are outrageous for the slices of film sold as protectors.
I use the cheapest of them all...
They are made for Palm devices and are sold on flea markets or "One Dollar" stores...
They cost $1 dollar the 12 Pack!
Just cut them to size and go!
scratch? i've droped my mini 2 times and got 3 dent edges. damn sad. The stupid casing they gave me is getting pretty loose. I put it on my belt.... so everytime i knock it seems that pouch just flings out. The screw and the plastic seems to have worn off.
I think i'm gonna go to a skinning shop to hide the dent edges.
try to buy a leather case for Nokia 7610. it fits.
You dont use that in the box lether case. It will easily fall of that tiny hook.
Wit the lether case of Nokia, it is mounted sideway into the belt by a leather that is sewed.
mine has never fallen. Even if it falls off the belt when you undress, the leather case is so stiff that it will not dent the mini.
@Emil...
Can you post a picture of your JAM in the Nokia case for us to see?

Dropped mine on a concrete floor from about 1.5 meters and got a really ugly dent on one of the corners of the battery cover. The cover wouldn't even go back on!
Easy fixed though. Just took a plastic pen and pushed the dent out from the inside. It still shows a slight dent and small scratches if you look closely, but what the heck...
Anyone know of any metallic paint (model, SKU, UPC code) that I could use on my JAM? I rarely put on my seatbelt, and the one time that I decide to play safe, I scratch up the corner of my JAM. I'd never go "ghetto" as one person put it in the thread, but I'm sure there's something out there to match it up. Any ideas?
Get the jam off of your belt and put it in a proper car holder and you will not only protect it from getting scratches from your seatbelt, you will also get it charged while driving. And also one less reason not to wear a seatbelt that could save your life in the case of an accident.
Incidentally, can anyone recommend a decent car kit for the JAM? I want one I can mount with some amount of ease somewhere on the console... I don't like those ones that stick on the windscreen.

Just don't order it from Expansys as all their product descriptions for Brodit are messed up. Does anyone know where else to buy Brodit because I still need the mounting clip for my car (Expansys kept sending the wrong one). Can you buy from them (Brodit) directly?
Thanks.

Body Glove Case Issues

Anyone else buy and have problems with it? I searched around after thinking I saw a complaint on it like I've got but couldn't find.
Basicly, I put it on started noticing the top was putting pressure onto the screen I think. THe touch screen got extremely laggy, unresponsivess, and just seemed to go crazy. I'm going to try sanding it down on the inside but I think that just sucks.
On top of that the phone fell out of the back/belt clip half one night and caused a nice freakin dent in my phone and allowed the battery to flip out almost down a sewer.
Anyone care to give me a positive review so I don't just throw this thing out?
Also - is it possible to buy a new physical case to replace a scratched/dented case? Not the body glove I mean the actual phone casing.

I have this case and had the same problem. I have read that many others have had it too. Honestly I dont know why a company would put out a product like this. They all should be recalled, however me being me decided to just fix it by Taking a dremel tool and shaving some of the inside part of the screen protector off, making it put less pressure on the screen. It fixed it immediately. The case does a great job in protecting the phone, just a major flaw that can be fixed if you have the time and tools. If you dont, ***** to the company and get your money back and try something else.

Yes I could see that the inside casing was a bit rough so sanding should stop the problem - but seriously that's a major issue.
Have you found that it holds the phone well though? Because I'm very upset that my phone fell out of it once already but maybe it was an error on my part and it wasn't secure enough...
I've never had the phone fall out of the body glove case.
i mangled my body glove case.
someone bumped into me and the phone fell out of the case AGAIN.
i ripped it to shreds and left it on the side of the road to rot into plastic hell.
i dont recommend this product.
I returned mine. I had the exact same issues (screen and phone falling out). It also didn't attach properly on the top left corner, it was always bowed out. I don't recommend it either.
Anyone got any else to share?
I was THIS CLOSE ( || ) to buying it. lol
Is there anything out there that's similar to it in design, but better?
returned
When all the way snapped on, mine pushed the top left corner so hard the entire screen would not respond to touch. Returned it.
My friend and i had the same issue. We just took it off messed around with it and put it back and it works fine, SOMETIMES it happens again but we just take it off and put it on.
Since there is not any other case that provides this type of protection we are keeping it. I rather my phone be safe than anything else.
I just ordered mine yesterday so I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival.
What exactly did you have to mod to get it to work? According to my readings, you just need to sand down the edges that connect with the screen right?
I may just buy the case and sand down what was mentioned. I like the design of the case..only one so far I really like.
I've been using one for about two weeks and am very happy with it. Had read about the screen pressure issue on other posts (searching helps folks), and scraped down the top corners before I put it on. Don't need a dremel tool or sandpaper. No problems, fits perfectly. The only warning is that it's a little dicey to take off once it's on -- it really fits snugly.
Yout're talking about the "sand texture" clip-on case, right? If so, yes, I bought the case too. The top cover was too tight and caused the screen issue people are mentioning. That was an easy fix by shaving down the edges that were pressing too hard (actually, I just cleaned off the coating from the plastic that was causing it... The bottom of the case however wouldn't fit at all. no matter what I tried, I couldn't get all of the clips to lock over the edges of the phone. I removed the felt lining and still had issues. I got around it by using thin double sided tape (for a temporary fix until I got a new case). I wouldn't trust the belt clip with the double stick tape though. I ordered the rubberized case on ebay and the fit is perfect. Just get that one. I sent an e-mail in to Body Glove and have had no response yet. We should all get our money back on these cases, or at least a redesigned bottom case that fits correctly. Right now it was just a complete waste of money. It's a shame, because I really liked the feel of the case.

Could you give us the link for the ebay one please!
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-RUBBERIZED-...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
That is the one I ordered, and the fit is perfect. The only thing I wish it had was the belt clip insert for the case included. I don't know where to find one, but I mostly keep it in my pocket anyway.
you guys want a good case that protects? check out the monaco aluminum case, it comes with a clear lens on it which I haven't removed but you could if you wanted quick access to the touchscreen. I work in the construction field and have yet to have it fall off my clip. I also dropped my tilt (when I used it) from about 8" off a ladder and it was perfectly fine. The aluminum case for the fuze isn't any more bulky than the body glove case either.

I've got one of these as well...and while it does protect the phone very well it will also lower your signal strength. I've had these type cases for the Wizard and Tilt and now the Fuze...whenever I'm in an area where the signal was a little iffy to begin with I WILL either drop the call or be unable to answer with the metal case. So, stay away from the aluminum ones if you go into lower coverage areas (and no...the slots they cut in the back to help improve the signal don't actually help.)

Back panel creeking...

After opening the back cover a few times to get at the battery, the case on the bottom left where the chin starts, if you push on it it now creeks which is very annoying given that is where you hold it with your thumb most of the time - has anyone else come across this? think i may have to wedge some paper in there to stop it.. its like chinese water torture!!
My first Hero was bad for this but this (4th) one doesn't creak at all. An old Sony Ericcson phone I had had the problem too but I solved it using the method you suggest in your opening post. Get the scissors and tape out!
I am having a similar issue. My back cover is creeking just behind the volume rocker on the left side of the phone. (HTC branded Hero - White)
My G1 had a creeking issue also. Went through six of them before I finally got one that didn't creek.
Mine didn't creak initially, after a few days of being in the pocket it now does. Shame really, but not the end of the world.
Easy solution to this.
Take off your back cover and have a look for the little plastic tabs that slot into place when you attach the cover. Get a dab of oil, engine oil or olive oil or something and rub it between your fingers. Then give the plastic tabs a light rub between your fingers; just enough to impart a thin layer of oil to them.
Replace your cover.
Problem solved. If this doesn't work, you may need to just rub around the edge of the cover wherever the noise is coming from.
I did something very similar and used some Krytox grease around the edge of the back cover. Squeak free now.

Wah! My D-pad's rubber nubby thingy is gone!

Don't even know what to call it so I can search the forum/online for a replacement.
I'm looking around for something else to use - like an eraser maybe.
This happen to anyone else? Is there an "official" nubby part? If not, what did you wind up using?
I cut a small piece of purple eraser and uhu glue. Looks better than the original!
Never heard of a purple eraser (is that anything special) or the glue you mentioned. I'll look for them.
I was trying to sculpt using a standard #2 pencil erasor without a lot of luck. It's like you need a dremel sander or something.
try silicon sealent. the stuff that is used to seal around baths and showers. put a small dab on and then wet the tip of your finger to round it into shape. TAKE CARE NOT TO GET IT ROUND THE D-PAD!
Silicon idea worked very well.... briefly. I got a reasonable size on it & used it for a day at home. But when I put it in the case the next day it fell off.
Will try again after cleaning the area more carefully.
Thanks for the idea.

Rubbercoating is pealing off

Hi,
i got my HD2 for 3 weeks and now the rubber on the right upper corner is pealing off. I don´t see the reason for this problem, because i handle the device very carefully ...carrying in a leather pocket (org. from) and keep it in my pants. It don´t look like "scratched of" more like seperating from the phone
My provider is going to change my device, but my question is - is there any similar behavior at any of your HD2s ?
Thank you in advantage!
I am assuming you have EU HD2 and by rubberclothing you mean rubber coating of the phone itself?
Thats really odd... can you take a picture of the damage?
Hi,
thank you for your reply.
yepp, your right - its an EU one (T-Mobile_LEO) ... and yepp i mean the coating (this word came not in my mind)
I can´t provide a picture, because i have no access to a digicam for now (only the one in the phone)
It looks like the device were fallen on sand or crushed stones (with high velocity) but its not ...
many imprints little on a 5x5mm square at the middle of the upper edge (looks like its pealing of), the rest of the area is intact. (a position where it is imposible to cause such damage by falling anyway)
no problems here after a couple of months
these coatings are normally very thin and often wear off over time, but not that quick. sounds like you have just found a bad one
probobly caused by sliding in and out of the case, or rubbing in your pocket.
i got a telstra hd2 and dont really know if it has paint or the rubber coating-im guessing paint. either way, rubber coating or paint, it will have some wear and tear if you keep sliding it in and out of the leather case or putting it in your pocket.
just think of it as cosmetic damage and not physical. our phones wont stay new forever. the minute you drop it, or get some scratches, you wont really care anymore

I totally agree with you 100% on this one! There are too many people out there who cherish their beautiful gadgets, but once they drop it or they make a scratch to it, they treat it like ****.
I noticed this alot from ipod and iphone users. They have oh-so-beautiful cases, but once a sand grain gets between the condom and the plastic, and a scratch is made, they don't tend to care much about is anymore like they used to.

Okay, I have no idea what you are talking about. Which version do you have? the EU one or the T-mobile one?
Do you have the word "T-MOBILE" on your device at all?
I've had my Euro (NOT A TMOBILE) Hd2 for 5 month now and it is in perfect condition using the leather case it came with. And I mean, no scratches. I rate it 9.5/10.
Not only that, my scale for rating phone conditions is VERY RIGOROUS. A single hairline scratch makes it 8/10. No compromising.
I am very protective of my device. I dont know what you guys are going with your device, but hell,
Rubber coating will come off eventually my BB is completely gone, but a few months is way too short though unless it was used mostly in a construction site!
A lot of things interact with rubber coatings - esp hand santizer but the worst is hand cream. Both contain isopropyl alcohol which is a solvent and it will soften paint over time. Other things like brake fluid and other household cleaners are deadly.
People complain all the time about the rubberized coating pealing off the rubberized buttons on Mercedes and BMW's that have the coating on the steering wheel buttons. Personally never use sanitizers and hand cream and I have ZERO problems with mice which are coated and my cars. Since the coating on the phone is similar I expect the same. I have the TMobile US version and it feels more plastic than rubber coated although I think it is.

wow, i want to disagree with you on using isopropanol alcohol. I use 70% isopropanol all the time to clean my hd2 for 5 months now. Rubber has never came off one bit!
I even use 100% EtOH to clean my screen and back lens.
my Hd2 looks brand new if you didnt know i had it for 5 months.
There was at least one guy on here that posted the coating was coming off his battery cover, probably a contaminant issue in manufacturing.
thank you guys for your answers!
normaly i don´t care about scratches and stuff, but the point is, that the device is only 3 weeks old and i don´t have any idea where the "damage" is coming from. It is not in the position where i touch it when i sliding the device out of the pocket and the pocket itself don´t touch this point. And chemicals like alcohol (hand sanitizer) or else didn´t come on the device.
I got a HD too and the coating on the back is fully intact (one year of use and mostly without pocket).
Today, im going to replace the whole device in my nearest T-Mobile-Store and im done, i can take it when i happends after serveral month, but not after 3 weeks.
@lemonspeakers
i got an EU HD2 with T-Mobile branded firmware, offical called T-Mobile_LEO when Swype is installed (EnergyRom)with the stockrom it showes "HTC_HD2"
And yes, the device is running on stockrom and spl is also stock again ;-)
How to repair by our self? is it possible?
The last 1 month ago, accidently I do peal off my rubber coating (small pill off) on top right conner due to usage of cheap leather case. God d**m cheap leather case!!
My question is there any way to fix this peal off rubber?
maybe some rubber treatment to make it look original back to the way i bought it.
Thanks

Thats much more clear. How you stated it before was just very confusing. Hardware wise, its the Euro. Software wise, it's the TMoUS.
what ever it is, i will get a new HD2 tomorrow ... for now i have to use a iPhone (anyoing thing btw) from one of my friends - who has ordered an HD2 ...
