As ROMs keep changing and being fixed, what would be the best ROM for a 32A Magic.
Im debating between The official HoFo ROM and MyHero 2.0.4.

Why don't you just try them and decide for yourself ? Find one there cover your needs instead of making yet another "best rom thread"!

Hear, hear.
It depends entirely what you want out of your rom.
Broadly, there are a few types of rom:
AOSP - Good example is CyanogenMod. Very stable, very fast. Based off AOSP 1.6 (Donut)
Hero-based - until recently, if you wanted a Sense UI (aka Rosie) on your android, you'd use a hero based rom.
Sense-based - Hofo Community rom is an example of this. Runs Cupcake (1.5) rather than Donut (1.6) though.
Ion-based - nk02 / Amon RA have done roms based off the Ion releases - damn fast, none of the bloat of hero/sense, and pretty good, although not updated very often (because they don't need to be).
If you're after a good, fast, general rom, then its hard to beat CM.
Hofo is probably my next choice, if you like sense.
If you want a no-nonsense, bare bones, screaming fast son-of-a-***** ROM, go an Ion based one.
Otherwise, try the roms yourself and get an idea of what you like.
Cyanogen hands down.
Thanks for the help =)

I like this talk. And I love RA's ION ROM.

Hi, i am a person who is not looking for many functions in a ROM, i am wondering if someone could make a ROM which only includes the basic apps such as Contacts, phone, message, calendar, default Launcher,Mail, Gallery, android Music player ,Market,Youtube,Browser, clock, calculator, camera ,HTC lockscreen and this ROM is based on the hero base.
May i know if this is possible? This will run hero as smoothly as possible. Thanks!

go to this thread
navigate to the bottom of the 1st post
click link under all other builds can be found here......
download JACHero 2.7.3 SuperLite.zip
remove anything you do not want from the build from the .zip file
(if there is anything you would like to add now is the time to add it to the .zip file)
resign it (if you do not know how to sign it search or pm me)
then put it on your sdcard and flash
this is the easiest way to get a bare-bones version of hero that is fast, simple, and imo one of the main reasons for a hero build, flash 9.
you.... must be kidding... right? JacHero?.... you might as well fill up a rom with fart apps and install it on your g1. He's looking for a basic rom, and, us being sans JF, the best other thing we have is;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
this rom has choices, and choices are always good. You can either download the basic rom (either ADP based or T-Mobile based (go with T-mo's, more space left in data)), or download the full one which has several of the modifications that have been developed in this forum. if you don't wish to have all that enabled by default, you can just download the basic one and use an expansion pack later on if you decide you want a little more.
Seriously, for your sanity, steer clear of any hero roms (unless you're ok with rebooting your phone every 3 hours to get usability back)
---edit---
edit, because i just re-read and noticed you do want to run hero.... search the threads and look for haykuro's hero beta 4. It's, by far, the best basic hero rom out there. Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, compares (hero-wise) to how good, fast, and well put-together it is.
Seriously, steer clear of hero roms...

actually jachero superlite is very fast..its just like running a stock cupcake. or just a watered down hero

and jacxhero 1.1 in my opinion is the best hero rom so far. its a collab wit with drizzy (known for making the speediest hero roms) jacxhero 1.2 is a bit slower.
just download overclock from the market. and then underclock settins should me max: 385 and min:380
hero roms seems to run better when underclocked to 383mhz
but bluetooth and leds dont work still

my issue with jachero lite is that it's removing everything from hero that makes it hero... you might as well use a smaller rom (80 mb v 40) and download twitter and facebook apps. I've never understood why you'd want to use a hero rom and remove all that makes it hero and then leave behind all the garbage of framework that HTC put there for nothing but two apps. Also, it's beyond me why roms are being made from the second and third releases of hero. They come odexed, which means that the code has been optimized FOR THE HERO. The dream device, though it shares some of the same equipment, is not the same. People should be working off of full jars and apks (haykuro's original hero releases) so that the dalvik vm can create optimized code for the dream, not the hero.
It's not that Jac's rom is fast. Hero is inherently fast. Any and all hero roms you install will originally be that fast. The lag comes from the bad memory leaks of HTC's framework, and there's hardly anything JAC or anybody else can do about it. Its' tolerable in the Hero device because of the higher memory available, and the workaround in the dream is the lousily executed idea of a sawp file. Install haykuro's original release, and you'll see that it's every bit as fast, if not faster, than Jac's releases, that's because the code is optimized for the dream.
I like JACxROM since it is pretty fast and has all your basics
Long story short, I'm looking to swap my G1 for a MyTouch. I don't need the keyboard, i'd rather have a smaller phone. I found someone on craigslist interested in an even swap... but when I mentioned my phone was rooted, they asked what that meant.
So... instead of trying to teach someone what it means, i'd rather make it really simple and just put a safe rom on the phone for them to use. They are obviously happy with whatever the stock firmware would be, so anything stable should be an upgrade. I've pretty much always used beta roms (im a sense whore)... so i've never dabbled into any donut roms or whatever.
What I want is suggests for a good ROM to put on this phone. Things like A2SD and teathering are unimportant. What is important is that ALL of the phones functions work. Wifi, GPS, camera, video, BT, ect... all must be functional and the rom must be as stable as an out of the box firmware. I don't really care to go through the process of completly unrooting the phone, id rather just throw a known good donut firmware on it and call it a day. The only one I've really heard of is Super D... would this be a good choice? Is everything fully functional? Or is there maybe a more slimmed down donut rom that would be better?
As far as most stable and speed use Cyanogens 4.2.15.1
it's still 1.6 but it doesnt seem this guy really gives a ****..
Super D was the pinacle of Donut in my opinion.
But I would also recommend enomther's The Official TMO if you want a plain vanilla version of Donut.
If you want to flash a fast / stable Eclair flavor of a Rom install Super E
Here are the threads for each Rom in case you need more instructions on how to flash/customize and fully utilize each one:
Super D by Ben Buchacher
Super E by Ben Buchacher
The Official by Enomther
Most stable rom would probably be SuperD. Never had a problem with that. =)
+1. SuperD. best experience I had on my Dream.
I agree with the Super recommendation with one caveat - NOT the last SuperD. While it was mostly stable, many folks (including myself) had issues with app FCs after installs unless fix_permissions was run. I also found the battery usage to be excessive. Go with one of the older ones.
To be quite honest, so far SuperE has been just as fast and extremely stable for me. I would have no problems installing it for a daily use ROM for anyone.
try Pays Donut Rom. v1.6... i you'll see everyone on cyanogen and super builds but i personally always end up going back to Pays Black donut. everything, [and i mean everything] works. no need to mess with it unless you wanna. i did, but only a tad...
i honestly believe it puts eclair roms to shame.
lol just unroot it and save yourself the headache of noobish questions lol
Enom's the official would be the rom you are looking for.
Are there any Sense ROMs that are CM-based for the Hero?
My girlfriend has a Hero that I've got rooted running LiquidSense right now (see sig). It's running pretty well, and she likes the interface. Early on I tried installing aospmod to see what she thought of it. She was not a fan. So CM is out of the cards for her. Moreover, I'm not a fan of CM since it seems to be pretty unstable overall. She needs her phone for work. It needs to be stable. And I really don't feel like I should have to update her phone with nightlies just to have something that's been upgraded since last Spring.
So my question is: Are there any STABLE Sense ROMs for Android 2.2 or 2.3? From what I can tell, any development for the Hero is sticking to CM7. I see that there's a Hero theme for CM7 now, but she wants the full Sense experience (incl contacts, etc), and not just the visuals.
There are a couple of 2.2 roms, but I don't think they are complete. If you want a full and complete sense rom, liquid is about it.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!

i too use my phone for work and there are stable versions of the CM variations, the nightlies are for the most part unstable.. the sense integration was cool, but stock android you can do all of the same by installing the apps that integrate the contacts, which essentially is all that HTC did with sense, they just used their own apps (which arent as good).. my wife was a huge sense fan, but after i got her to try something other than sense for a while she came to realize that it wasnt the awesomeness that it was toted to be.. aospcmod (which is android 2.3) is incredibly stable, and there are ways to make the phone look like sense, but in all honesty i dont believe that sense was ever meant to run efficiently (its too fat) on the hero, and they have come out with newer versions of sense that would be better suited for the hero but we cant get them.. like ranger said there is a 2.2 version of sense out there, but pretty sure it isnt that stable.. and the other sense products are just stock, but are "optimized" (meaning they just took some crap out)..
thanks for the response guys. I'll revisit the AOSP roms and see what I can do.
Good Morining,
I'm new to the HTC world in general, just made the switch from the Epic 4G and looking forward to hit the ground runnning here.
I already have loaded the last update on my phone and got GB, root and all my apps up and running via stock UI.
Now I want to venture to the world of roms and I got much to read (I know) but just wanted a quick down to earth suggestion of what is the common used ROM here, like CM7? or any other good ones.
I don't care much of Sense or if its AOSP, I choose performance over that kind of stuff because there will always be a way to change the view. So any good well tested kernels or roms suggestions would be good.
Thank you to all in advance!
Actually, if you don't care about Sense, CM7 is a great ROM to run.
The main downside to the AOSP ROMs is that you can't use EPST (the dialer codes/update profile/PRL).
A lot of other people are running MikG (Sense), Synergy (Sense), MIUI (AOSP) or Deck's (AOSP).
I usually switch between CM7 nightlies, MikG and Salvage Mod myself.
Good Sense kernels for Gingerbread are Freedom and ChopSuey. Good AOSP kernels include Tiamat and Savaged-Zen.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the sugestions, I may opt for trying out the kernels first before the Rom, getting lazy with the wipe / reinstall apps right now, but I will check out the Rom threads and keep myself updated for when I'm ready to jump ship
Thanks once again!

I'm just curious, aren't you?.. is a poll..
I think it's interesting, waiting for more people to vote
Currently on Speedmachine v4 because I need a little stronger battery compared to GB roms, so voted for other. Otherwise it would be DeckedX.
The main problem here is that you can't change your vote, so when I flash a new rom i can't update :/

Anyway, it seems that this survey failed as long as I could not provide those "other" ROMs .. sorry
Very interesting thread.
I've currently hoped from Ligux 2.3.7 to heroine 2.1 sense.. The pure speed of this Rom is phenominal, I mean just when pulling down the status bar for example you really feel the smoothness.. and its actually in real time, so doesn't come down 5 seconds later. But yeah I've figured that I don't need android 2.3 or 2.2, all the upgrades are really unecessary for me personally. All I need is calls, text and whatsapp. If I needed games or web truthfully this phone would have been long gone by now.
I use the official CyanogenMod 6.1 release, with Flykernel 13 @264-576. Stable, battery life of 2-4 days, decent speed, vanilla Froyo.
Eclair wasn't really an option, I think it's quite behind the newer versions, I hate Sense and Gingerbread never run smoothly enough on Hero, so vanilla Froyo was the best compromise for me.
Why didn't I go with one of the local ROMs? Not to offend anyone, but most of the CM6 ROMs here are butchered, full of ugly themes and unnecessary changes. Show me one that runs better than my configuration and I'll be happy to change to it.
I'm using CyanogenMod 7 but i think i'll revert to some 2.2 rom like FroydVillain ot CM6, not sure yet
why don't have Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 Android 2.3.7 it is one of the best roms
Decked x ligux
Sent from my Hero using xda premium
I think if you looking at performance and stable Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 and cyanogenmod are the best choice for Htc Hero
Elelinux, last one (7.1 v3.6), not the light or the Custom version, just the standar one with the default kernel
