Hello all,
I have been thinking of trying out one of the Hero themes... I just don't want to lose all of my contacts. Is there any way to save my contacts before I install Hero v 1.3? I tried searching for this, but nothing came up.
Thanks again.

Sync with your google account. Or you can get an app called nyx sync or something like that, which backs them up to your sdcard.
I have NS Contacts backup. But can I recover these on the google OS if they are saved on my memory card?
if you mean from windows mobile to android? you setup active sync with the google server, it syncs all your contacts. When you load android it prompts you to enter your google account and will import your contacts.

I've read HTC hero has an app (htc sync) that allows syncing android with outlook.
Is this a stand a lone app? Does anyone have a copy and would it work with any HTC models? thanks.

That is the link to the Hero sync software. Haven't tried it suing Hero on the vogue...but there it is if you want to test it out.
ok i d/led and installed it. won't work b/c i can't get windows to install driver to android. maybe the .inf file could be altered to install the driver for the vogue...
ugh i don't want to re-enter information for android contacts every time i upgrade.
Why not use the same data file when you upgrade? I keep a set of data files for each android version (cupcake, hero, etc.) and swap them in and out when I switch builds. It's not ideal, but it keeps me from having to re-do things every time.
Or, you could do the following:
1. Create google account
2. Create exchange relationship in outlook with google as the server source
3. Sync contacts from outlook to google server
4. Sync contacts in android from google server source to phone and you're done.
thank you for that great suggestion.
1. which file do i keep to retain contacts?
2. how do i create exchange relationship in outlook with google as the server source?
thank you very much

1. You won't have to worry about that if you have a Google account and you sign in.
2. By using the search engine from the makers of Android

Just run myphone again now on your new phone...it will sign you in, update the client, and then sync and add your contacts again

myPhone is a 2-way sync. This means if your contacts are on the website, they should be sent to your phone when you sync.
If not, either your contacts were never sent to the website, or they are stored in the website's Archive.
If you can't find them on the website, your contacts may be gone

Hello,
I recently started using android on my HTC HD2 TMOUS. I downloaded Friyo_v3 from gamesquare and run it from the sd card
can someone tell me the simpliest way to get my contacts from winmo 6.5 to android.
thanks
Just export from outlook in csv format, then import that file to your gmail account.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
There is an even more simple way :
In WinMo, set active sync to sync your contacts with your google account (server : m.google.com, login and password are those of your google account).

Howdy!
I'm currently running the roms in my sig. I'm absolutely loving the americandroid (even though I'm not american! ), but I have a problem.
My previous android installation used HTC Sense and HTC Sync. This build doesn't have those, thus I can't sync my phone with my outlook.
I've exported from outlook and imported to Gmail, but it's very inconvenient having to do that every time something changes.
Is there a way to automatically sync my phone with outlook when cradled? If not, perhaps to autosync outlook to google? I've been looking for this for weeks, but haven't yet found a permanent solution. Please suggest!
Thanks in advance!
Just to make sure, you want to sync outlook as a stand alone client or is it apart of an Exchange combination?
In 'accounts & sync' there should be 'corperate email', just follow the input screens & you should have it on your mobile - I currently have it setup to sync email, calendar, and contacts.
If it's the later option you can use Google Sync I believe

I don't think you can use HTC Sync with a CMX, only works with the ones which are based on the HTC roms which had sense or something.

I'm not using any exchange servers because I wouldn't know how to. It's all local. Exchange would be might convenient, though I bet it's a pain to set up.

Yes, that's the PC client, but your phone needs to support it, which needs HTC Sense & Sync.

Exactly - this is my problem, I can't use HTC Sync.
I'm very surprised there isn't any android apps readily available for this, or did I overlook any?

Do you mean that if I install that application, it will sync whatever I do in Outlook with my gmail account? I don't think it does, but if that's it, it'd work indeed!

my bad, only does calendar, when I'm at work I'll try find a different solution.
Use MyPhone Explorer. It can sync via USB or WLAN. Install the actual version via market on the phone and install it on Pc. It's better than HTC Sync, because you can filter items and choose a different contact/calender folder.

If it were me i would sync all my contacts in to outlook, setup a live or gmail account and import them all from outlook, either by using the outlook connector or by exporting them all to a CVS or something, live and gmail provide a way of importing these files , when you setup WP7 you just sync the live/gmail account and bobs your uncle
as for SMS, i think your out of luck im afraid, if you want to back them up and still have access to them i would suggest using Microsoft My Phone, that will allow you to transfer all your SMSs to an online backup utility, you can then just connect to it on your phone to look at them, but there is no way of transfering them to your phone....at the moment anyway
you'd think Ms would make it easy for users to upgrade from wm6.5 to 7!
thanks for the procedure i'll try that way.
i currently use Myphone, sux its not wp7 compatible

i cant find it now but on one of the many MS blogs out there i read that the My Phone team are making a new version with WP7 in mind, dont know if its true, and i cant find the link, i stumbled on it a while back by mistake, but anyhow, it stands to reason that they will have something like that at some point, perhaps they are waiting for Mango which already has several large changes over NoDo, who knows! just need to wait and see
yeah there were a few rumurs a while back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13973440&postcount=6
but nothing recently. only things im missing is the call recording feature and MyPhone, but at the moment i'm having to get live without each.
I hope Mango has Myphone, it was one of the best services (if not THE best service) that MS had for WM.
