VPA Compact IV! - Wing, P4350 General

Hello,
I bought a VPA Compact IV (Herald) from ebay and I am very interested in upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.1/ 6.5. (I have little experience with flashing the HTC Elfin and the HTC Nike. I don't like WM5 and want using Manila 2D!
1. My first problem is, that my device (Herald/ Vodafone) got a simlock. So, I read on a wiki, that I can unlock it with paying 15-20 € on the internet. Which site can I trust?
2. Next, before flashing, most devices must CID unlocked. I haven't found a CID unlocker anywhere?!
3. I read some posts, that flashing the Herald is more dangerous than flashing the Elf(in)/ Nike. Could you confirm that? In that case, what could I do?
4. Is there a good tutorial (step by step), which begin from an sim- and CID-locked device and explains the whole flashing process on Herald?
I would be grateful, If you could answer some of my questions!
As you know, I don't want to brick it!
PS: Sorry for my bad English
Thanks in advance!

Hello. I will try to help you out on this, but please note that all non-development threads should be kept in the Herald or Herald 6 forum and not in the Herald Development forum.
Note: If it has WM5, it probably has the older 1.X SPL/IPL. DO NOT HARDSPL the phone. That said, there are already many threads describing what you need to do.
1. I've never tried unlocking the SIM, sorry.
2. HardSPL is the "CID unlocker" for the Herald. It is not compatible with the older SPL. You will have to either upgrade your SPL through an official ROM FIRST (to get SPL 4.0 or higher) or create and use a GoldCard instead.
3. Flashing the SPL the first time is dangerous ONLY if you don't follow the directions about the SPL version. (Most people don't... which is why it's dangerous, but realistically, it's the safest to flash phone that I have ever owned.) After the HardSPL is in place, it is 100% safe.
4. There are many walkthroughs. You'll have to search for them (actually, read the stickies, they have done the searching for you already.) There is no SIM unlocking walkthrough since there is no SIM unlocking tool. The flashing process has been explained maybe about 800 times. You'll find MANY walkthroughs.

Thank you very much!
Is there any official Vodafone rom with this SPL?
What can you say about unlocking the phone on the internet?

I don't know. Not many Herald owners here have the Vodafone. You'll have to do some searching.
As far as unlocking the SIM, most Herald users don't bother unlocking it, so I don't know, either.

Go to the Vodafone Support Homepage... of your Country there you can find still the rom Update...HTC removed it from their page

Is it possible to cid-unlock an MDA with IPL/SPL 2.26?

Hi,
I have a new MDA from T-Mobile which I updated to the 2.26 official t-mobile upgrade. I would to back up the device to a mini-sd card from the bootloader; however, am not able to cid-unlock the device (aWizard fails during the write step), and the bootloader is giving me a security level violation error.
Is there a (safe) way to CID-Unlock the device? If not, how else can I do a full backup and guaranteed restore from a mini SD card? I apologize if this has been answered before... I tried to read through the forum however, could not find anything definitive.
Thanks
cid unlocking t-mobile mda
Hi,
I'm from the Netherlands and have exact the same problem.
Can't cid unlock my t-mobile mda.
So if there is an solution i'm interested.
This is the only solution yet: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php

Lokiwiz Issues:
Winnie:
Thanks for your response. I tried Lokiwiz. With Lokiwiz 0.3a (LokiwizMsl.bat) and that provided the SIM unlock code. However, I could not figure out a way to CID unlock with the Lokiwiz 0.3a tool. Lokiwiz 0.2b fails to CID unlock the phone. Again, I apologize if I am missing the obvious, however, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks
You're not doing anything wrong. The latest lokiwiz does not include the CID unlock feature, and the last version that does will not unlock 2.25 and above. It may not work on earlier ones either, but I know I have 2.25 and it's not working.
Re: Lokiwiz Issues:
Opppsss....I guess the poster on the link I gave you meant to be SIM Unlock not CID Unlock. I appologize. I just re-read the link and realized that. I'm sorry.
I think the only solution is to CID unlock before you upgrade to ROM 2.26. I read from some other threads as well that this upgrade does not require you to redo the CID unlock. Could anyone confirm me on this?
Thanks

I can confirm that the CID unlock is (so far...) completely permanent once done... I think, however, that you have to unlock with a 1.xx rom, not ANY 2.xx rom. In other words, I do not think that it is just 2.25 and up or just 2.26 that you can't unlock I think it is any rom that starts with a 2. If someone could confirm, it would be appreciated... I do believe that there is some sort of temporary workaround to flash a new rom without CID unlock, but I am not sure how (I am unlocked), or even where I saw that...
Hi,
Thanks for your responses: Is there a way to downgrade to an official 1.08 ROM, and then CID unlock the device, and then bump back up to a 2.26 ROM?
Thanks
i was thinkin of doin that. when i bought my mda it came with the 1.8 rom, and i upgraded it to 2.26. now i be wantin to cid unlock it.
so i was thinkin of tryin to install the 1.8 rom and cid unlock it. but the question is will the 1.8 rom install properly after 2.26 is installed
Before you attempt to downgrade from a 2.x to 1.x Rom you need to be aware of a few things.
1. If you have a G4 flash chip YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO A 1.x ROM. (Search for G4, to determine this)
2. You will need to use the modified RUU package from a custom Rom which is hacked to always think your phone as Rom version 1.2 installed (again a little searching will explain better)
3. If you try this, your IPL & SPL (bootloaders) will get out of sync (one will remain 2.x). This is a dangerous situation for your phone and you just might brick it!
4. If you read up on how to "cook your own Rom" (yep search for it) you can create Roms without bootloaders which don't need your phone to be CID unlocked.

Ah ha, so there is a risk of say putting in Tmobile's oem 2.26 rom (or future oem roms) to re SIM and CID lock then.
I myself have an 8125 with ipl/1.08 : 1.08, gsm : 01.16.11, os : 1.8.11.1 and was thinking of upgrading to Tmo's 2.26.

ah well, that sounds like a massive pain in the ass... i dont have the patience for that anyways i already bought a card specifically to back up the rom in any case, and i dont doubt that the wizard community will come up with something. in the meantime, ive got no major hangups with 2.26, besides the occasional freeze

Artemis Update SPL (USPL) v.01 - Another way to flash *ANY* rom to your device!

This is a patched SPL for HTC Artemis devices (HTC P3300 / T-Mobile MDA compact III / O2 XDA Orbit / Dopod P800W / Dopod P800 / Dopod M700 / Orange SPV M650).
This SPL is based on original Artemis 1.11 SPL but includes 3 patches:
SuperCID / SecLevel=0 (set 32)
Does not check Model ID
Does not check signature*
(*) code must be formally signed i.e. contain properly-formated signatures on their places, however no checking are performed against them.
This means you can flash ANY ROM to your Artemis after flashing USPL on it, no need to pay for CID unlock anymore!
Disclaimer:
This is free to use but at your own risk, I take no responsibility for any conflict, fault, or damage caused to your phone by this unlocking procedure. No warranties of any kind are given. Any commercial usage prohibited.
Instructions:
1. Unzip
2. Connect your phone to computer, make sure activesync is enabled (green icon)
3. Run start_uspl.exe on your computer and wait until process finishes
4. See Artemis_USPL_Manual.zip (PDF) for more detailed instructions!

Thank you for those kind words. I do not doubt pof's credibility. I also do not doubt that he has tested this program. I am just the unlucky person who would try this and get the thing all wrong and end up with a brick. I am quite good this way.
Please, it would appear my last message was doubting pof's abilities. That is definately not the case.
POF, I apologize to you, please though understand where I am coming from. Thank you.

Possible any changes in start_uspl.exe?
As first many thanks for your help and for the many time that you invest in the development some tools.
Now my question:
It is possible that you make a update for your developed tool "start_uspl" so that the updater function even if the phone are connected in bootloader modus?
I think that is the solution for some bricked phones after updates with locked CID.

Sorry but not possible, it first transfers patched SPL through activesync and places it on phone memory, and needs WinCE for that. If you already have a brick that tool will not help you.

Yes, does not depend on anything. Will work as long as you can set up a guest partnership on activesync with your device.

It works great. I just flashed a HTC rom to my O2 Orbit with no problems.
how to name the file with rom ?
USPL vs. other methods.
USPL vs. other methods.
One of the key benefit of USPL compared to other methods, is that USPL enables you to flash any ROM version, regardless of your device model ID.
To minimise a risk it is recommended to have USPL installed before flashing device with modified WM6 ROM or any other constructed ROMs.
In case of failure, you will be able to re-flash your device with any desired ROM version for ARTEMIS.

Backup Default Rom

Hey
New to this forum. I've read through many of the threads but can't seem to find a definitive answer. Sorry for being a noob
I'm about to buy an Australian Version of the Imate KJAM aka HTC Wizard.
1. Which program would I use to backup the rom/everything etc so I can go back to original mode?
2. I've been reading about upgrading to WM6.0 Does this run faster than WM5.0? And which of the custom packs would be best?
3. Why is it recommended that to flash to T-Mobile's base 2.26 rom, then flash NBD 7.6. What is the point of this? Arn't these both ROMS? It would just overwrite the T Mobile 2.26 rom? Can someone clarify this for me.
Thanks!!

1. I don't follow this question. What exactly do you mean, "go back to original mode"?
2. WM6 is superior to WM5. Since you've been reading a lot of the forum, you know that there's a good bit involved in upgrading.
3. IPL and SPL are the "Initial" and "Secondary" Program Load. If you think of your phone like a computer, it's sort of like the BIOS.
"I don't follow this question. What exactly do you mean, "go back to original mode"?"
For example, currently on WM5.0 If i upgrade the rom which comes with WM6.0, would I be able to restore it back to WM5.0
I have the same exact problem. I would love to try and unlock my wizard and put wm6 on it. I have bought my t-mobile mda used, it is the german version (has Y and Z swapped on the slideout keyboard). Since when I received it it has wm5 in italian (I live in italy and I am italian). I am assuming someone put it there (so it has been unlocked i figure) instead of the german wm5. Now my questions are:
1) Can I backup my whole rom so I can go back to my original italian wm5 (same question as dvd107)?
2) if my phone has already been unlocked can I know in any way? Is there any risk in cid/sim unlocking it again if it is already unlocked? (I think it is sim unlocked since all sims work with it)
Thank you very much

Help changing Herald language

Hi,
I've just bought my wife a Herald (P4350) here in Moscow. It comes with Windows Mobile 5 in Russian and we really need to change it to English. I've been referred here as the best place for help on how to do this but looking around this forum there is a huge variety of information that is quite confusing for the noob (which I am for this type of thing!)
Can anyone tell me how to change the ROM? I don't know if it's cid locked or anything else! You'll need to tell me how I can check, if you don't mind. It's just branded as HTC. I don't mind if the ROM is WMM 5 or 6 as long as it's in English.
Thanks!
Upgrade your phone with the official WM6 HTC ROM. Then if it's still not in english, use any of our custom ROMs as they're almost all in English.
IF you decide to HardSPL, please take note of the SPL version you have or you will brick your device.

Thanks for the advice ivanmmj. The official update is in Russian as this is the only option it gives to download. Can you please tell me what HardSPL means? I notice other people mentioning it but I don't know what it means.
[edit] It seems that HardSPL is something that provides a more foolproof way of changing ROMS. As I am a complete newbie at this, I am worried of trying something that will render my wife's phone useless! She needs it for work.
Is it possible to upgrade my ROM to the official English WM6 ROM found in the Herald WIKI of this site? Will I have to unlock the CID?
You cannot use the official WM6 update to get it in English,
you will get a Invalid Vendor ID error, You should flash the official
WM6 RUssian first, then download USPL.
Now Download the desired ROM (pick one you like there are enough)
And always read instructions!!
USPL
RUU Russian
Read the Instructions in the USPL folder,
Put the downloaded ROM in .nbh format in the RUU folder.
If you have questions please post before just trying,
you don't want a Brick like many of us (including me) have owned

No you can't, Invalid Vendor ID error will occur.
If you really want Hrd-SPL,
Upgrade to WM6 Russian first, Hard-SPL needs an SPL higher than4.xx
You can try Hard-SPL indeed, but flash official WM6 first(!!!)

HD2 locked by Orange France is possible to do HSPL & rom cooked?

Hello All;

2. If it is possible, doing this the phone can be free or unlocked? or there is any other procedure to unlock it? maybe to upgrade radio?
3. the last question; if a day i want to turn back to the original orange france rom can i backup it? and how?

Hi....Having dealt with Orange France in the past, i think it is extremely unlikely that you will not have problems with them no matter what you do, and even if you do nothing to your phone!...Their support is probably the worst in the world so i really would not worry about offending them.
Do HSPL then change the rom...or Goldcard followed by the Rom.
Unlock the sim on the phone if you want..
There is a site that seems recommended elsewhere on XDA...I am trying them myself a the moment....hence i found your message when searching...unlock-now etc
If you have a problem and need to send the phone back to orange.....They will probably be impossible to deal with, but if you really are a masochist, then insure the phone and then assist it's demise....under a car wheel is quick and painless, if you are careless while crossing a road!

hi,
thanks for answer, i have done the flashing with success, but before i unlocked it to ***.htcgate.com for 19$ about 14€ with success and after i flashed it with a coocked rom, doing hdsl and after flashing rom.
now the phone seems do his job very well but i miss tv orange ecc, its no problem but if one day i like to return to original rom its a bit difficult because i have'nt done yet before.
Did you use hspl alone or did you goldcard as well?
By the way there is a way to revert the back to the original spl at the bottom of the HSPL sticky thread.
Was it easy to reconnect to orange 3g services?
