A few Google OS Q's? - Touch CDMA General

Right now I am running Ion. All is pretty well with it.
I was just wondering if someone could(or if it has already been done), list out all the differences of the different builds available.
Also is Ion the best running of the builds so far?
I am just curious as to what cupcake and others may have to offer but done want to mess with smoothness that Ion has offered me.
Thank you
Mike

c'mon man give them all a try. think outside the box you might find something better ya know, have fun!
ion its not the best it is the most stable and fastest but that doesnt grant it the title of best

they all offer different things, really you'll have to check them to see what you like. Personally I use the rogers based builds, but hero and motoblur are cool.

Ok one more question, what do i do to "preserve" what i have with Ion?
Do i just make a folder on my PC and drag all the Ion stuff into it, data.img included. That way if I dont like the others, I can just move it all back onto my phone like nothing happened
thanks again. I really wanna try that motoblur.

just go to sdcard and rename system.sqsh to systemion.sqsh, then rename data.img to dataion.img.
then put new system.sqsh in sdcard and it will create new data.img
and when/if you want to revert delete data.img and system.img and rename the old dataion.img and systemion.img to data.img and system.img any ?'s pm me, enjoy and have fun!

Awesome, thanks guys

Reposted from Android Central (link above):
Guys and Gals -
First off, I had a read through and I'm glad for you all that it looks like you might get a working camera with the 2.1 leak. Congratulations to whomever figured it out.
Now on to the not so good news. This morning I received an email from the developer of a popular market application. It seems that someone has put out a ROM full of stolen software, and associated my name with it, as they took the boot image from one of my ROMS and called it their own. This developer and I have squared things away, so no harm no foul on my end.
It does leave me in a dilemma. Rather than have my name tossed in to a mix like this again, I've decided that I'm finished developing for the Hero. Enjoy the work, I won't take it down, and if I can get Google Earth and Nexus one wallpapers working a bit better (yes I have it loading and running, but it locks the system up after 30 seconds or so) I'll pass that fix to the few people here who have helped out so that they can package it up in any way they like.
The person responsible (and I won't name names - they know who they are, and the work they put out with my name attached isn't hard to find) has really soured me. I have been an open source developer for almost 20 years, and am very happy that the carrier I use for cellular service finally released a (mostly) open source operating system for me to play with. The way I see it this leaves me with two choices:
1. - Stop releasing work that others can use in any way they like
2. - Stop developing altogether for the Hero.
I chose number 2. There is already enough closed development and a "I'm first" mindset. That also goes against everything I believe in, so it's not an option. Bundling my name with software piracy and IP theft is not an option either. I will not let this happen again.
Keep the flames and ignorant comments to yourself please. I've thought about this all day, and this is my decision. I'll always be available to help others in any way I can, but I won't be publishing any more work. Rather then wasting time and energy to tell me how wrong I am, please use that effort to congratulate the individual who has placed me in this position. Sorry, but it is what it is.
Jerry.

Don't forget BIKCMP with the Pancake rom, but he seems to be respectable too IMO. I don't think I've seen a rom yet that doesn't incorporate at the least Gbhils custom memory killer kernel.

Well, first lets thank gbhil for his effort, time, and work that he's put into helping us develop.
His guidance has helped almost every project associated with the CDMA Hero.
You will be missed.
That being said, let us not take this as setback. Use it as inspiration to get your own hands dirty. There's no better time than now to learn the trade.
And please, don't go on a witchhunt to attempt to bring this person to "justice." It puts the entire community into a bad light, something that a lot of us don't want.
HEY GBHIL dont leave f00, ur roms rox my sox in a box of rox. i was using flipz old 2.1 rom (before droid eris leak) and then i switched to ur droid eris leak remake or w/e and i was like AMAGADZ its so 1337 and fast. it's almost like the hero isnt a crappy slow 524mhz processor with ur rom. let us know the dev's ip who put the pirated stuff up so we can pwnz his comput0r with 1337 hax0rz

I think when he says boot image he might mean the actual boot.img of his roms. That has to be modified for his kernel to work in the first place, so everything out there incorporating his work has in some way used it.

(THINKTANK)MIUI Port for the HD2 (9/22/2010)

Hey all. I'm new to the HD2 but not to android. I'm sure you've all seen the MIUI rom for desire and nexus. (if you haven't go here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-9T44Bt7M&feature=player_embedded
To clarify :"It appears that the ROM has been mostly custom built using only the base from Android 2.2 and then building an exceptional interface on top that could beat anything else that currently exists.
From full FM radio support to completely customizable home screens, dedicated buttons on the lock screen that take you to the SMS app and the phone dialer."
Since its fore the desire/nexus, It should be an easy port to the HD2, I just need halp
I'm sure most of us would love to see this implemented on the HD2. I thought I could do it myself, but I've tried and failed. Below are two links. One for the full rom and the other is a link to the system.ext2 image I made from the /system folder of the ROM. I've tried a couple of different kernel combinations and still can't get it to boot (replaced the system.ext2 in shubcraft with the one I made and it just reboots). I don't yet know enough about android on the hd2 to get this working myself. So I figured I'd start a thread and see where we can get.

UPDATE: 9-24-2010 : We do have a working test build that is being given out to a few folks. No ETA on a alpha or beta release. Hopefully this weekend. I'm tonight and tomorrow so I'll squeeze in some android time when I can. SARCASTILLO (guy who made hyperdroid) gets the credit for getting this thing booting. Nice to hear that ! We always lack people like you, however the few Hd2 build developers have magic hands.
Maybe you already know that, but I suggest you to contact them directly for this great project because Hd2 is a very popular phone, so this forum is 99.9% populated by end-users. At the begining kernel developers tried to work into xda forums, but deserted for the Htc-linux Irc because of noise.
This would be so awesome!!!! DEVS, plz plz plz look at this !!

looks like its an odexed system (will try to deodex) and using a heavily tweaked launcher ui... pretty sweet... includes google pinyin support OOTB (of course)

[Q] What would you do with a new HD2?

By new I dont mean iv just bought it I mean I have not flashed it or loaded any new ROMS on it.
What would be the nicest Operating System and ROM be to read up on, Im a complete nOOb unfortunately so i just want to be gently pushed in the right direction for the reading material which I know is always the first point of action.
I have seen a youtube video showing off the Gingerbread 2.3 system on android and wanted to know your thoughts. I mainly use the phone for watching vids, text, email, googlemaps, facebook and sportypal.
Thanks for any help you wish to put forward to me
I guess you´ll have to find out yourself.
If you don´t like the "native" Windows Mobile with Sense on your HD2, the only option which includes Google Maps is definitely Android.
There are so many choices on this side... why don´t you start using some SD builds of Android, which you can use for trials with Android, as a second OS next to Windows Mobile? This way, you could have the "best of both worlds".
In a next step, you could move completely to Android with a NAND build.
Why dont you first try a SD version of Android first.
Assuming you have Windows Mobile currently and a SD card
1) Download this zip file --> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1W38WURX
2)Extract the folder Android to your memory card.
3)On your phone go to the folder Android which has all the files extracted
4)Run CLRAD.exe and then HARET.exe and your phone will go into the Android OS
thanks to both posters above this is exactly what I wanted to hear, I know all about this question being one that the regulars hate but Iv tried doing searches but when you dont know what your searching for its kinda hard, I think Im reading up on the right stuff now cheers

To be honest, you don't even need to change to NAND. I haven't bothered (yes, I'm a noob too), but I'm extremely happy with AmeriCanAndroid on SD. Decent battery life (apparently NAND is better, but I personally think it is good enough on SD), extremely smooth and stable Android 2.3.4 OS, and I can always go back to WinMo at any time (although why would you possibly want to do that )
+1 to all above. SD ROMs are good for testing and some for a daily driver. If you decide you want only Android like many of us... go to NAND later. The speed, performance, everything is amazing on a device 1.5 years old. I run EVERYTHING on my NAND ROMs with no lag (CM or MiUi).
Sense never ran well for me. No biggie since I'll be getting a Sense 3.0 overdose soon.
yeah Im going to just run it from the SD and see how i get on, just looking to see which ROM I prefer, looking at jaguar miui, it gets good remarks in the thread from users,,, a quick question If I use the SD card to run the ROM will i still be able to use the MP3s from the same SD card? probably a stupid question

I never tried it for a long time because of comments like that. I tested it out because I always thought it looked girly and would be great on my woman's phone. Was a long time CM user but after two hours with MiUi I missed nothing from CM and actually found myself loving features that I didn't seem to get with CM.
I don't care if MiUi imitates a steaming pile of poop... the fact is it has so much functionality, so much eyecandy, and it NEVER lags for me. So fast and I run with everything turned on and power-use my HD2 like you wouldn't believe.
I still love CM and probably always will recommend it... but I get bored with it but not with MiUi.
My experience!?
If you ever flash your phone with android you would never go back to windows.
I have my HD2 since over one year and changed the OS two weeks ago. It is never more usefull with all this available apps.
A big thanks to all developers here, they make a great job cooking their roms and share with us.
cheers

[ANDROID] [DUMP] Android Touchpad System and Images (UPDATED 26-AUG-11 )

I dont know if anyone cares or not but I believe the more people gets on in this the better and we also get to achieve android faster. I wonder if their are any devs on XDA that wants the android system dump from off the touchpad. Hopefully we can put this to good use. Apprently people from all over are dumping and those few people wasnt the only ones.

Otherwise ENJOY

Hope this is real. Would probably be a nice jump-start.
It is real.. sad part it I cant do anything with it.. but I wanna learn how to.
I'm downloading it now, we'll see what I can do with it. I've silently been compiling Dalvik and Chrome OS for the TouchPad and have a decent amount of experience with Assembly, cross-compiling, Java, etc. Let's get this **** done.
I guess there is some stupid bounty and everyone wants to be selfish and aim for the money. So it would be nice to get groups all over without other people yelling and trying to shut others down.
While pretty, this is utterly useless. It seems to have some userspace drivers like Wifi (woot) but it's missing the boot.img which contains the kernel. The hard part about porting Android is compiling the kernel, and this depressingly doesn't have it. All this is is a more helpful version of arm-linux-androideabi- compiled system, which is pretty normal. At least IMHO :\ I'd love to be told otherwise, though.

Alright, I can't look much more right now, but what I can tell you is that this dump has the boot.img (8.img), the system.img and the user data.img (either 12 or 13.img). It may also have a modem (?) of some sort, I've never seen the files before but looking at them, they appear to be the modem to the Evo 3D. That makes this a little...... odd?
i think the evo 3d and sensaton have the same processor as the touchpad wonder if that have something to do with what you seeing

Thank you for posting this here, OP.
Well, I work 9-5 at a computer company so I do have to get some work done I have a good amount of reverse engineering history, programming, and hacking around history, so this is pretty fun for me.
Some random observations:
This IS from Qualcomm, there are a lot of files that mention it and even two apk's that are by them.
HP obviously had a hand in this because the device is called Topaz in the build.prop file, which was HP's codename for it.
I'll look more into it now

Doing cool things with our ancient phone

Hi all,
Personally I still love my G1. It is the 1st Android phone so historically something that is interesting on its own.
I assume most of the G1 owners on this forum are having the same geekish interests as me and I was wondering what you are doing with the device that you concider 'cool' and can impress fellow geeks
Some things I think are impressive:
1. Having a rooted device with a custom very stable and fast Gingerbread firmware (ezgingerbread)
2. The droid2600 and Frodo C64 emulators that run great on the G1 with its keyboard.
3. Haven't done this myself yet, but seeing videos of debian run on the G1 was pretty impressive.
4. Eventhough it is probably not ready for daily use but having ICS on the G1 is amazing.
My G1 is running debian for a while now. But it mostly sits in drawer now, I just bring myself to sell it. No matter how much my wife nags at me.

How well does it run? I guess you can't use it as a phone if you started debian?
I am using Frayo
And I use it mainly for forums and IRC and stuff

Running a customized rom you created yourself does belong in the 'wish I could say that' category.
Compiling programs from source does seem to be possible for the lesser educated with the scriptset smitna has created. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444792
Not as cool as creating your own rom, but you have to start somewhere
I been using it mainly to try roms and stuff,
but every time a friend lost or have no phone, until they get a proper.
I give it to them to use it
and to try to convert them to android
so I use it for educational porposes
Im using frayo too (thanks )

What do you mean?
I am really honestly using Frayo....
Froyobylaszlo is /the/ best G1 ROM and I use my mod for the (few) features it adds
Did I say I used that script?
Well...no, I didn't
And I can compile a ROM on my own from source thank you very much.
I just don't really see the need anymore since froyobylaszlo is as good as it gets
And instead of working my way up from aosp, learning along the way since I don't know a lot, I decided to just mod in features I like
And no I didn't use some scripts or rom kitchen
I tried using an apk compiler and a theme kitchen thing to fix certain problems, but then I decided against it...
Also, as of now I'm stopping working on my ROM and MOD and am gonna go for some pure PC development to work on my skills
I'm not too sure what you were trying to say but that's my response
If I misunderstood you, sorry
Edit: I think I did....now I'm debating wheter I should delete the above....
Sorry
Just ignore it all...I though you were saying that I shouldn't advertise here (I'm not btw I'm actually using it to post even)
And I thought you said I used that script and didn't do anything
Well, if you want to jumpstart into rom development with modding,, just open up the rom with winrar/7zip and start looking around
And at the google source website you can find how to compile a rom
The second option may require some programming skills

Nice ideas. Might do some research, thx!
Was indeed giving you a compliment for your rom modding, maybe my indirect approach was not clear enough (I am not a native English speaker... that probably doesn't help as well)

Oh ok thanks
Sorry bout that...http://forums.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
This is very useful
Go to "building a rom"
Idk if the link works, its been strange for me, so just scroll down to it
Whenever you edit a rom, you have to sign it...
That link has the files and directions
Also,
I've just had fun experimenting with my G1. I didn't root it myself, but I have learned a lot since I got it. I ran through about 10 or 15 different roms until I found one that I like personally (Ginger yoshi) and customized it the way I wanted. I think the coolest thing that I did on it running a SNES emulator (although I only did it once because of ridiculous lag). I started toying around with DOS box but that didn't go anywhere. I wasn't able to do much with it because it is my primary phone and it got extremely annoying to have to fix it every time I messed something up.
Anyway, it was tons of fun... then it broke :'( And now I'm getting my friend to give me his for free! and the fun will continue.
