Guide to load custom roms and perform nandroid backup?

I'm sorry but I have searched for that last 20 minutes in the Hero CDMA thread.. I can't seem to find a thread that explains what a recovery image is or how to even load it.. I came from windows mobile and it was pretty simple to load a rom, I'm hoping it's the same thing for android.
What I need:
if you guys can explain or link me to the following, it would be greatly appreciated:
Explanation on recovery images on how to load them
How to perform a back up

Android Marketplace for A7

Hello all,
I really want to get this installed by way of Dexter's Mod...but I am not well versed in this sort of thing. In fact, I know next to nothing about computers.
But I believe I know enough to go through the simple steps outlined in all the posts on this forum...problem is the Mod file appears to be damaged or something everytime I try to save it to my computer. I've ran tests on the file and it looks like something is wrong. Could someone provide a little insight on what I might be doing wrong??? Is there something wrong with the downloads on this site?

I thinks the file is damaged and I would suggest sending another thread since noone bothered to answer this one. I am pretty savvy and I have had elocity about two weeks and cant get to load dex rom or mod. I would suggest trying another link or seeking advice elsewhere!! good luck!!! Even I have had no luck yet!!

You do realize this post is from January? And the link works fine for me from Dexter's OP, you are downloading elocity mod 1.41 correct, if you still have no luck downloading it I'll repost the zip

Check contents...
Some of the updates need to be extracted before renaming and loading. Be sure to have a look with a zip utility of some kind, if you see a text file and another zip in the file you downladed...extract then proceed.

Sorry it Took So Long i been busy with the evo and the new synergy rom, but the zip is attached, hope that helps, PM me and questioned should be answered quickly

The firmware is available on Amazon's website. So, unless you have the original 3.0.x (have not updated ever) it's not much use right now. Thanks for the thought though. Never hurts to ask.

To convert my 2012 nexus 7 to this new file format and have not been successful at all.
I have searched so please don't use that as your answer. I am trying to find an easy way that
A two year old could follow. I have found were to get the ROMs so that's not a problem. It is just trying to convert.
Is there something someone has put together like a flashable version? Any help would be great!! Thanks in advance.
Also let me have your thoughts . If it really makes a difference switching to this... Thanks..

The most simplest way....and I mean simple, is to install multirom via play store. Once you boot into recovery, you click on one button and you're done. Mulitrom is awesome. If you don't know what it is, it basically dual or in my case triple boots into your system.I have 3 of the top ROMs all running f2fs and ilove it.
