No Wifi at home... - Hero, G2 Touch General

Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere already...
I have a strange Problem with my Wifi... its not working since the "Official" ROM-Upgrade... but only at home.
- It finds the Wireless-Network and tries to get the IP-Adresse... but fails
- All other Components in my network (other handhelds, Laptops) connect without problems
- It worked before the ROM upgrade
- It works without any Problems at other Wifi-Networks (at work, as an example)
Any Idea, someone?
Thanks in Advance,
Oliver

What brand router do you have?
I have the Sitecom WL 173 and also have no success with Wifi. I cannot connect.

Hi,
I have a rather old Siemens Router... (not sure about the exact Model) Strange thing is, it worked flawlessly before the ROM Upgrade, but never since. Looks like I might have to replace it. Was there some sort of "Wifi Protcoll" Change within the new ROM? And now my Router is to old?

Some router/device combinations are troublesome, particularly older routers. I appreciate that it worked before, so it does point more to a Hero'ism than your router. Have you tried changing channel on your router as this may help?
Regards,
Dave

Not yet... I'll have to try this.

My home one works fine, but I can't connect to anyone elses now, even free WI-Fi connections.
T-Mobile update done 2 weeks ago.

:-( changed channels... same issue. I can connect with anything else, but not with the Hero.
Looks like I have to replace my Wifi-Router at home...

Hey,
if your computer is almost always on, I'd recommend this amazing soft :
http://www.connectify.me/
It turns your computer into a wifi hotspot so you can use your mobile devices easily.
A few clicks to install and it's already working (and no problem on hero like with ad-hoc)

try another access point.
However, I have two of the same titans as you, and the same router.
one connects, the other does not.
I have asked many times on this site for help, but no response. the only difference is that the one that fails has updated roms.
it does not appear to be hardware, switch or other physical problems. I have tried several roms, and even flashing back to original. No go.
Wifi is all I can think about now, and if it was not for the service providers stupid data requirements, I would get a new smart phone.
I have a Mogul with Ryan Moguls Cricket lite 3.1/ radio 3.42.40 and I have the same basic problem. Only occasionally will my Wifi connect or detect my Access point (about 15 feet away). turning WLAN on/off doesnt seem to help. I have used other 6800's in the same environment with wifi working perfectly, so maybe it's a hardware problem. (although I have two 6800's right now with similar symptoms).
Any suggestions on how to check wifi antenna?

Wifi Possibly broken

HI
last night i rooted my phone using the exploid x10 root apk, at first it worked fine and so i left is plugged in over night to transfer all my music onto my new sd card
but this morning it seems the wifi has broken

i have reflashed its software 3 times even downgraded back to the R1, still no luck, its not even rooted and its broken
any1 had the same issue? i have searched the forum but the ppl with the sam issue have not been helped. please i dont want to spend $$ to get it fixed i have no job
Hi.
No problem with the wifi so far. This is strange.
Do you have warranty?
Sound stupid but did you try to reset your router?
If nothing is working you should go to the service.
yea i messed around with wifi router, nothing, i can browse the net on 3g wich is odd, but 3g is expensive so that cnt be the solution. bluetooth and 3g work obv but the wifi cannot connect itl connect to the wirelss just NO datac exchange?
There is someone with the same kind of problem but on an EVO 4g, but i really do not understand what they reply's mean. Maybe you do?

tried to search on google and came across a LOT of people having this same issue, on laptops, iphones, ipads, which lead to the conclusion that it may not be a wifi failure?
well it cant be a complete wifi failure kuz i used the dev menu and it says wlam enabled and scanning just no connection
thanks

+1 and so much more for all your help man
i managed to fix it, it wasnt my device as such it was my router, too so i fiddled around with both mainly giving my x10 a static ip and bam it worked, cheers!!
I too have a wifi problem, but it is quiet a different one and i have no idea how to solve it.
when I connect to wifi at home my router reboots, but there is no such problem when i connect to my office.
I tried reseting the router at home and still no use, once it got connected and when i started a download from the market the router again rebooted.
How can i solve this????

Tried diffrent encryptions? like WPA2 or WEP?
Maybe switch from G to N standard (or vise versa, if availible?)

see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11#802.11g
The X10 doesn't support 802.11n
no one said that it did..

Somebody told him to try to switch the router from b/g to n. That was the point of my post.
And your router obviously operates all 3 standards at once

[Q] My SSID not detected

I have an HD2 with CyanogenMod7.1 HTC Leo 080111.
I changed my wifi access point and lost connection to it.
Everything else is connecting: Laptops, Motorola Defys and other.
Even the same HD2 with Windows 6.5 (prior to booting Android) connects fine.
I tried to vi wpa_supplicant.conf several times with different settings but at no avail.
I guess the problem is in the ROM. But where? Any clues?
Thanks

had similar problem on HD2 CM mod (ACA), not sure if it'll work for you but try to disable and enable SSID Broadcast on your router (saving the router settings each time)
Your solution works for me
Thanks a lot. It worked also after disabling/re-enabling the wifi on the android.
Thanks again.
The problem returned
This solution is temporary. After the phone get really out of range and returns, it does not recognize the SSID.
Do you know what is the root cause of the problem?
Thanks

strange, and I'm out of any ideas, apart from the painfully obvious ones:
- is your wifi hidden? allegedly some roms have problems sometimes with reconnecting to hidden networks
- try changing routers channel to 1, 4, 6 or 11
- seems you're using SD build, if so maybe update it to the newest version, with fresh data.img, do not restore wifi access point but set it anew
Once again it worked
Out of your list I tried everything except setting the channel.
My Access Point worked with Auto channel, meaning that it could change it to the least busy one. For some reason, HD2 did not like it.
Now it works (meanwhile) with channel 4.
I hope for some stability.
Thanks again.
It works fine for the last couple of days. So the proble is the dynamic channel allocation. I guess that at least this ROM feels better with static one.
Thanks.

no wifi anymore after access point switched to 802.11g only

Hi,
My blackstone works flawlessly with wireless wherever I go. However, at my workplace it doesn't connect anymore after all access points were switched from 802.11b/g to 802.11g only. (I've tried the same at my home router/access point and there it works fine). I've tried several things like forgetting the wifi settings, soft reset, hard reset, even tried a couple of ROMs and radios but nothing helps to get it connected to my work wifi. There's even two variants: an encrypted and an unencrypted version. Both used to work but don't anymore. I can see the SSID's but I cannot connect. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Except on your workplace?
You should talk with your IT guys (or gurlz)...
If it's working elsewhere with g, then it's not hardware.
I have talked to the IT dept, and they can't fix it. It seems to be an incompatibility between the blackstone and the type of access points here, when switched to 802.11g only. The workaround for now is to use another SSID that does support 802.11b+g, to which the blackstone connects with a 802.11g connection... weird!
If anyone has come across similar issues and has a clue: I'd really like to know!
cheers

Wifi won't stay connected (not D-Link problem)

My phone has problems staying connected to wifi. It's often disconnected and has to reconnect when I wake my phone up (even though it's set to not turn off during sleep) and it'll disconnect and reconnect sometimes even when the phone is awake. I've read about people having problems with D-Link routers, but none of my routers are D-Link. The problem seems to have improved a lot after I flashed my modem to the MDL modem, but it still comes up. Does anyone have any solutions or would anyone know what could be causing this? I'm currently running the Wicked rom but I had this problem even when my phone was completely stock. Has anyone had this problem go away after switching to an AOSP-based rom?

I still have this problem, it disconnects and reconnects minutes later. I am on stock, stock kernel and rooted. could it be a root problem?
It can't be a root problem because I had this problem even when the phone was completely stock. I'm wondering if it's a TW problem, which is why I asked if anyone still had this problem after switching to AOSP (the Wicked rom I'm running now is TW).
If it were me, I would try a different modem, but thats just me.
Is there a thread with the available modems?

Just because it isn't a DLINK wireless ap doesn't mean you won't issues. All the consumer-grade wireless routers/ap's share a narrow range of chipsets made by broadcom, atheros, etc.. So, the brand has nothing to do with it.
I would suggest getting a logcat if you can or try another wireless ap somewhere else. I've got a TPLINK wireless router with OpenWRT flashed, runs flawless.

I never said that only D-Link routers have problems. There's a well-known issue with D-Link routers so I wanted to state up front that I don't have any D-Link routers in case anyone wanted to suggest that it could be the cause.

He said the option was only available while originally connecting and setting up the connection for the first time. Maybe you can try to delete the wifi connection all together and then let it re-detect and go through the set up process again...if that is an option.
My phone was doing this on my friends router but not on my home router. He searched google & found something stating that the S4 dont like routers with AES encryption for the security. He changed his router security to TKIP+AES encryption & the next time I was there wi-fi stayed connected with no constant reconnect problems. Buuuut, my home router security is just AES & I have no issues connecting to it, yet at least. Dont know if this will help anybody else out but its worth a shot to play with your routers security settings.
I thought I had an issue with my I337 S4 do the same thing.turns out my phone was just bouncing around trying to connect to 6 other open WiFi signals I've used
So just to give an update, I tried installing another router in my house as an access point and the phone has no problems staying connected to it, so there's definitely something that the phone doesn't like about the other routers that I'm running. I'm reluctant to say that there's anything "wrong" with my old routers because no other device had a problem staying connected, but if anyone else experiences the same problem, changing routers/APs could work. Fwiw, my old routers had Broadcom chipsets while the new one has an Atheros chipset. I'm going to try updating the firmware for the old routers to see if it helps (I run DD-WRT and Tomato on all of my routers).

I'm having the same constant-disconnect issue as well and searching for solution.
I'm rooted, on stock rom and cant find any "key management" option at initial connect. Issue was happening when unrooted as well.
No issues when connected to router at work, but have connected two other, albeit older android devices to home router without issues.
home router is dlink dir655

Thanks, forgot to mention the router is already set to TKIP+AES.
However, upon confirming this morning, it is set to auto WAP/WAP2. Will try WAP2-only tonight, unless this won't make a diff?

WPA/WPA2 decreases the bandwidth of the router. WPA2 will support a full 300Mbps link state. So yea, they are different, but it may not fix it.
I have a Cisco EA6500, so I'm connected to the AC 5Ghz band, and it works flawlessly. WPA2 Personal
My bad on typing WAP instead of WPA.
Doesn't sound like fully opening up the bandwidth will fix it.
Has something to do with how the phone manages the encryption keys?
