CoPilot Live 8 On Verizon TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I posted this in another thread, but I wanted to make sure that it gets seen because this is really frustrating....
I might be just stupid, but I've been trying to get Copilot Live 8 working on my TP2 for about a week now. I bought a 16GB SD card for the main purpose of storing the app and the whole North American map on it. I installed the App and activated it on my phone and downloaded the map via CoPilot Central, but it won't let me transfer it (the button is grayed out). The only thing that I can think of why it doesn't let me transfer is that CPCentral shows me only having 208MB free on my device, when the map is 1.01GB. How can I get it to see the SD card? I found the map files on my PC. Could I just copy them into the SD card? If so, where? I'm seeing something in Program Files and in the root of the card, but I'm not sure.
Anyone who's gotten this working, how did you do it? I reached out to their support yesterday and haven't heard anything back from them.

ok i have copilot 8 north american maps on my touch pro 2...i bought the 32 dollar one since i didnt upgrade. there was no need for me to download any maps into my memory card...all i had done was place the two folders onto my memory card the copilot folder and the 2577 folder and it installed and the maps and all were on there. i didnt have to go and download any other maps from copilot central. but make sure you are connected to your phone through active sync to be able to transfer any files from copilot central. once connected through active sync open up copilot central then log in...once on go to explore my copilot and then click on maps. then once you are there click on maps on my device to make sure you dont already have it installed...it will show up under there if its already installed if not click on maps on my computer then hit the check box under select then click on add to device. you should be good to go.

OK - so I checked the original 2 folders (COPILOT and 2577) and the maps ARE in there.... When you transferred them over, were both of those directories in the root of the card? Or were they in a subfolder? That might be part of my problem. I have a folder called "Apps" that I generally dump all my installers to and I stuck them inside a folder in there... so my path is actually \Storage Card\Apps\Copilot Live\2577
Are yours in the root?

I downloaded the European maps version. I copied across the copilot folder as it was to the SD card, and then copied the cab I needed out of the 2577 folder rather than copying the whole thing.
Works fine

they have to be on the root of the memory card not in any other folders...so it should be \storage card\COPILOT and for the other folder it should be \storage card\2577... both need to be on the root of your memory card and that should work let me know ok

I'm copying the files out now and I'll let you know how it turns out

i was about to tell you to uninstall it and then move the two folders over where they need to be and reinstall it but let me know how it turns out for you

Works! Thanks guys.

your welcome man...i like copilot for the price and i do like the program setup and overall experience too bad it doesnt call out the city names for me

question: I had copilot 7 on mine and the north american maps are way out of date it seems. I've been living in my house for 11 years and my street doesn't even exist on the map. any help?

you may want to upgrade to copilot live 8 or download the north american maps im sure those have been updated.

just for grins, I tried to put my house (on a relatively new street, but in an established neighborhood) as a destination on my way home from work. It seemed to work pretty well, but my street wasn't on the map (no surprise, it's not in google maps either), but the existing streets in my neighborhood were all named wrong. Plus, when I just picked a coordinate where my house was, it said that it was in some town that I'd never heard of.
Weird. I'll do some more experiments on it as the week goes just to see how it is. Running this thing sure makes my TP2 hot though.

Do you guys notice choppy framerates in landscape mode and smoothness in portrait? That is my only bug that I've really found with my VZ TP2 and Copilot 8.

With CPL8, ALK has introduced the MapSure program; just report map omissions/errors at the linked URL, and they promise a map update within 45 days of their verifying the error.

CoPilot Live 8 on Vz TP2
Bought CPL8 a few weeks ago for my TP2. Live in California but have traveled to LA (different country!), Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and DC. Works great. I have seen a couple of instances where old roads still show up where freeways now break the road up and things like that. Overall it's been a great experience. Certainly an excellent experience for the price. When I was in DC I saw a vertical display that showed where construction and accidents will appear in my route. I really like the tool and would recommend it to anyone. The POIs are very extensive as well. I'll have to try the mapsure thing to make change recommendations. Only con is that the voice levels on the notifications are tool distorted even at the lowest volume setting. It's already had 2 updates completed in the few weeks I've owned. I set it up to do it manually. Seems like they are working to make sure it's current.

Copilot 8 Live - lockscreen / autolock still active in use !!!
Hi All,
I'm using NRGs ROM (see signature below) and just recently loaded CoPilot Live 8, which also works too, but I noticed the lockscreen / autolock still kicks in as you're watching the map, which is not good when I'm driving. Has anyone else noticed this or had this problem? I've contacted CoPilot Support, as I think it's their product, but I'm posting a note here, just in case there's a quick fix or something like that.
Went to CoPilot as I was fed-up with TomTom dragging their damn heals!!

ttn5

Hi
I have a fully legal version of tt5 on my xda2i but I'm of to the US and a friend has given a folder named \theState_map in fact he has given me many of these, I want to try this out and see the level of detail before I by my own copy for future visits.
How do I access the map? I can only see the ones I install that came with the software?
I had tried editing CurrentMap.dat to point at the new map directory but it didn't work. I don't want to put the cracked version on as it is a legal version and I will buy the maps if they are any good.
So what do I need to do to get the folde to work?
I also un sure if it complete as for example colorado is only 17.8mb and 11 files.
I bought the US maps and used it while I was in Texas and Colorado in the past 3 weeks and would say that it work great.
The full set of US maps comes in 8 CDs. It also includes a Major Roads map (for cross-country driving) and maps for Canada and Puerto Rico.
There are two ways of installing the maps; by regions (i.e. Mid Atlantic, Plains, West, etc), or by states and/or group of states. Since I had a small SD card when I left for the US, I just installed the maps for Texas and Colorado. The other thing I did was to install all maps on my laptop. If ever I needed another map, all I had to do is copy them from my laptop to the SD card, thus no need to bring the original CDs.
I eventually bought a 2gb Sandisk (standard) SD card in BestBuy for a little over a 100 dollars.
Thanks, but what version of TT do you have?
It would seem that TTN5.0 is the only version that works with the US maps! once I down graded I could see them But my BT GPS needs 5.1 to work correctly!
thanks
tt5 us map
you need the original/ cop of the setup disc for the us map to work on ANY tt5.1 or 5.2. the map your friend had is for Palm.
I'm using TT5.210 with TT BT receiver. I've read some posts indicating problems with POIs for US maps especially with TT5.2x. I used POIs a lot while I was in Texas since it was my first time and did not encounter any problems. No hangs, no crashes, and no soft resets.
To do the installation for the first time definitely you need the CD's. In the installation routine thre are 3 install options;
1. Directly to the handheld via ActiveSync.
2. To a card in a card reader.
3. Directly to folder in a PC's hard disk.
I've attached a zip file containing screen captures of the map installation routine.
I installed the "maps by region" using option 3 on my laptop and then just copied the map(s) I needed for my trip to my SD card and it worked. That's what I mean by "thus no need to bring the original CDs".

HTC P3600 + TomTom 6 + Have I even got a GPS installed + HELP!

Hi guys n gals.
I bought my Trinity from Ebay "unlocked" and have spent the last few hours rebuilding it as I think it was unlocked using dodgy s/w.
My specific question is whether I not I have a "GPS enabled ROM" and how do I find out? I also have some specific TomTom questions (see later).
From Device Info:
ROM version: 1.23.61.5
Radio Version: 1.41.00.11
Protocol version: 32.74.7020.18H
I'm running "WM 5 OS 5.1.342 (Build 15096.3.0.0)" and also "TomTom 6.03" which I set to GPS internal. However I'm not getting a fix and it's been 30mins so I'm wondering if it's a ROM issue as described elsewhere on this site. Please advise.
Also the s/w itself is behaving oddly which makes me wonder if it's copied but then it did update OK using tomtom/home. The western europe maps are apparently on the miniSD card but I can't set my UK home address. It just keeps going to Amsterdam (I think), no matter what I do. Have I got a dodgy copy? All I really want to do is navigate in UK.
Finally do I need WM6 at all?
Cheers all.
are you trying to get a GPS lock in or outdoors, because i cant get a fix indoors but outdoors i get a fix in 2mins,
also have you got tomtom configured to use COM9 for GPS? this is essential
You can't configure the COM port using Built-IN GPS, but it should find it OK.
As Goodie says, you must have a clear view of the sky to get a fix- satellite signals are very weak, especially for a 1st fix when the reciever needs to download a lot of data.
Your ROM is up to dat- Radio 1.41 is recent; any Radio ROM ending in **.11 has GPS enabled.
Western Europe Maps should be able to use the Postcode search in UK, as long as the Postcode database is enabled/loaded. Look in the root of the SD card for a folder called ZIP, which should contain the postcode file.
If TT Home recognised the installation, it is likely to be OK. Did you receive the original documentaion with it? If so, there should be a card or sticker with the Product Code on it. If not, double clicking the Map entry in TomTom Home should bring up a properties window with the product code.
Once you have that, you can go to www.ttcode.com and check which device code the map is locked to. When in TomTom on the PDA, you should be able to see the Device Code in one of the 'About' screens- can't remember which one
hi and thanks for the quick reply.
1. sorry i was inside. went out and got a fix.
2. there is a ZIP folder on the SD card. inside it are two files. One is called Nederland (1.86M) and the second is "Nederlandpostal.ver". am i missing some uk files? is this why it keeps defaulting to amsterdam?
3. no docs with the purchase. will try your advice later and double click the Map entry in TomTom. or do i need to do it now to get it to work for uk use?
thanks
sounds to me like you havent got UK maps
hi,
no i have got the uk maps. its found my house and if i somehow fiddle around with it and manually select city it will find other uk locations. but somethings clearly odd. on another screen it tells me i have Map: 'GB_plus_major_roads_of_WE'. or you mean do i need to have something else in that ZIP folder?
here's exactly what i need to do.
say i want to navigate from my home in surrey to say my girlfriend's address in chelmsford, essex. if i hit navigate to/address/postcode, all the device will recognise is german addresses. i have to first go into /street and house number/ and then enter "chelmsford" FIRST. and then search for her street.
i want the device to default to uk postcode as i dont always know the city location, just the postcode. so it will be very difficult to use.
i doubt i'll need the europe maps for quite a while so guess theyre worth keeping.
have i made sense?
You need to go back into TomTom Home and download the UK Postcode file, which should be copied to the ZIP folder. At present you seem to only have the Netherlands postcodes. Without the UK Postcode file, you will only be able to select addresses by town/street.
Do you have 2 maps on your device- Western Europe, and UK plus Major Roads of Europe? If so, try and use the UK only version if you don't need to drive in mainland Europe, as route calculation and address searching is much faster with the smaller map.
Many thanks. I'll do that tonight. Do I therefore delete the 2 Netherlands files from the ZIP folder?
No, they can stay there for next time you visit there
NeilM (or anyone else!)
I'm back home now, have booted up the PC and launched TomTom Home.
I can see the Netherlands file on the Zip folder but I can't see how to download the UK Postcode file.
Sorry for being thick but how/where do I grab it?
Thanks
Hi powerbook,
Not sure about others, but I downloaded my local maps from a friend....you can download it from TomTom if you don't mind paying...
Also, I'm assuming you have some sort of GPS icon and you can get a GPS fix where you are?

If you can see the UK map in the middle pane of TomTom Home, is there a way to re-download it? Also have you tried the 'Updates' link in the left hand pane? Unfortunately I'm working from memory, as I don't currently have TomTom Home installed.
If you can get hold of the original product code, you may be able to request a download link from TomTom.
@Blackbeauty: the question is about using Postcodes, rather than GPS fixes, but thanks for the input. Copying maps from friends is against the T&C of TomTom, and will usually not work anyway, unless the copied maps are also illegal versions, as the map activation is tied to a particular device.
Your home and/or default maps are set to Germany not UK
Load tomtom. Click on the screen
Change Preferences
Second page has
Manage Maps
Select the UK map and that should solve 1/2 the problem if not all of it.
reload tomtom
If the problem is still there
Click on the screen
Change Preferences
Second page has
Change Home location
Put in the correct location
This should fix it looking for the german postcodes rather than UK.
If not have a look here:
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3338&page=2&pp=10
(I just did a google search and that was the first link, seems to have various other solutions)
cheers guys. got it working now. thanks.
Good work- did you do it through TT Home in the end?
Hi NeilM,
Not in the end no. Instead I managed to get a copy of the two UK postcode files and drop them into the ZIP folder using ActiveSync.
Cheers for all your help. Great forum this.

TomTom - I give in!

Hi all - great forum. Hoping to be around for good while soaking it all up.
I'm a new owner of an SPVM5000. Loving it with Opera and running it on WiFi with Terminal Services.
Proper happy with it - but, I want to get TomTom working on it.
I've downloaded all manner of pirate copies/maps etc, simply because I don't know if it works and wanted to try it first - and more specifically, know which version to buy..
I mean, once I know what works, I'll go and buy the thing from somewhere but, as yet, I can't get it working. Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I keep getting a "No Maps Found" error.
Anyway, Google tells me this is doable and I'm not looking for piracy tips, just a nod as to what version will work and perhaps the cheapest place to get it from if there's anywhere else than TomTom's naff site.
Ideally, I'd love to chuck some credit card details somewhere and get a legit download for it that I can put onto the SD card and away we go, but I think I might be pushing it - it's all boxed goods I think?
Any help for one of your older members, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers!
Hello there,
I have Navigator version 6 running very successfully on my SPVM5000.
A couple of things to check.
1. Is your memory card inserted? tomtom needs this, as the maps will be stored on it.
2. The maps are stored in a folder on the root level of the storage card.
The name of the folder depends on what geographical version you have.
Being in the UK my folder is Western_Europe. Inside the folder you are looking for 3 files. cline.dat, cname.dat and cnode.dat. They are the map files. If they are not there you have been given no maps!!
Hope this helps.
Hi - thanks for the reply.
I've followed the guide on here to change the registry for the GPS options and now if you say TT6 works, I can go with that. I had read TT5 is quicker so that's an option too I guess.
Yeah, the maps have the filenames you mention there and they were on the root of the storage card in a folder named Great-Britain-Map
Cheers.
mail me with details, i have the instructions for spv m5000 installation of tomtom
Thanks - I'm up and running now.
Do you still need a GPS BT Reciever with the Universal? Or does it have built in GPS?
I am new to PDA's and all this malarky.,.,

Xperia from O2, no Google maps or Wayfinder?

Hi ................
I posted this question yesterday, but I might have posted in the wrong place, sorry!
I have the Xperia on contract from O2, excellent phone, I was under the impression that 'Google maps' and 'Wayfinder' were actually on the phone ready to use, Google maps I believe had a panel of it's own.
The phone I got last week didn't have either 'Google maps' or 'Wayfinder,' although an enclosed CD said 'Wayfinder' printed on the CD, it just contained Active sync and an electronic handbook.
I contacted Sony Ericson who informed me, that O2 had actually removed these utilities from the phone whilst branding it O2. I'd love to have Google maps, I even tried to install a panel for Google maps, but, it halted loading, saying it could not be installed on the Xperia!
Has anyone else had similar problems to this please?
Brian (Huddersfield)
m.google.com/maps in your xperia browser to easily download it for free - im pretty sure somewhere on the CD you will find Wayfinder - you just have to look through the folders if i recall
Hi .......
Thanks for the reply, no, I have searched both the phone and CD, it certainly is not there, when I tried to download Goole maps, a message box came up and said it cannot be installed on this Xperia!!?
As for Wayfinder, that is certainly not on the CD, but, apparently it was only a trial version anyway. That's not important as I use Co Pilot, it's just I'd like to use Google maps.
I installed it on my old XDA Orbit 2 and it works a treat, but, I suspect some kind of discovered software conflict, when O2 customise the Xperia for use on their network.
Anyone else in the same boat?
Brian (Huddersfield)
Comrade is exactly right on both points. You gotta search through the CD to find Wayfinder, and it's a bit counter-intuitive. But anyway, you probably shouldn't bother. Wayfinder is no good. You can actually get used to the poor interface and use it, but the big problem I found is lags. Turn-by-turn navigation at 65 MPH is no good when the phone is hanging as you speed past your intended turn. If you want something legal and downloadable, buy NDrive. It's very good.
Xperia from O2, no Google maps or Wayfinder!
....... I take it back about Wayfinder, Wayfinder is certainly not visible when using the 'O2' CD loader, but, browse the CD, under additional programmes, there is set of files named Wayfinder, strange that, you should have to manually search the CD for these install files.
As for Google maps, I searched and searched the Xperia many times looking for Google maps, when I tried to install directly from the Google site, I got a message box saying it could not be loaded onto this Xperia.
However, I found an eairler copy of Google maps compressed, I copied that to phone and it's up and running, I then tried to load it from a proper Google panel installed on the Xperia, it just hung, but, it seems to run fine by clicking on the Google file in programmes?
Anyone else here use the Xperia from O2?
Brian (Huddersfield)
try adding google maps to the start menu favarates.
dont use the panels they are rubbish.
ps. the new google maps has street view. i will check if i have the cab file and post it
this is the latest cab from the google website.
as for wayfinder, its not any good.
i use tomtom but that ndrive software is good too
Hello Ganodolf .........
Excellent, thanks for that, and it works a treat. I'd like to use Google maps in Thailand when I go in October, is it essential to have an internet connection for it to work? I'm not sure about GPRS or a high speed data connection when using a local SIM card (12 call) Thinking about it, I guess it does need a data connection, as it must load local maps for the location you are in I fear?
OK about Wayfinder, a few people have declared it as rubbish, I put Co Pilot on the Xperia and it seems to do the job, I'd like Tom tom, but can't afford it just yet.
Finally, what does it mean with Google maps, when they say street level?
Thanks

street view: some citys in the uk (and around the world) have been photoed so that u can put in a address and seem to walk down the street and look around a street
.....That sounds amazing, on the Google maps I just installed from you, I looked where I live, here on the outskirts of Huddersfield (someone has to live here!!!) and I can zoom right into my house and see a view as if I was above the street maybe 100 feet or so, is that what you meant?

............... Yes, it's amazing really, links with GPS like a dream, an excellent programme, thank you very much.
Are there any other worthwhile programmes for the Xperia, I installed the battery monitor that put a coloured line across the top of your screen to show battery level more accuraly, that's great too.
Brian (Huddersfield)
there is a battery icon set that make the x1 show battery in 1%s and it just overrides the original 10% (no program needed)
have a search in the x1 section u should find it with a how to install

Map Program that runs from the SD Card.

I'm looking for a Map program that runs from my SD Card so that I don't have to wait for the maps to load.
Is this possible for googles maps?
What programs can do this? will they have location/GPS.. and/or touch zoom for the screen?
Let me know.. I'm looking for something badly (and I'm not familiar where to look/find programs like these). If GoogleMaps can.. then I'd be satisfied with that.. but if you've got something better... get it to me..

CoPilot runs fromt he SD card, but that's a $30 navigation program, not just mapping.
Is there any GPS programs that we can get for free?
I do lots of traveling sometimes in areas that have very limited or no cell service so programs like MS Bing and Google Maps don't work here. I eventually settled on Navigon which stores a completes set of US maps on the SD card and will work regardless of cellular coverage. It works really well and turns the HD2 into what you would expect from a dedicated gps unit. Only downside is the cost, it's $90 but then again you get what you pay for.
somebody's gotta have a hacked copy of one of these programs, or have developed one themselves.. all I was is what THOMPSD is talking about.. a map app (or program) that will run when I DON'T GET ANY SERVICE..
I travel a lot also, so I need something, but I'm not going to pay $90.. I'd just buy a GPS for that..
EDIT... error

This is not a warez board. Copilot is $30. Since google is apparently to much for you to handle two other options are Navicomputer and Opensteetmaps both available on XDA when you bother to do a search.

you don't have to be condescending. I obviously don't have as much experience or "know how" as a lot of you guys, hence the reason for my questions.
I don't see why I would need to buy a program to get maps installed on my SD Card so that I can view them instantly (without loading them from a network)... also, I didn't know what "warez" was (but I just googled it to make you happy).
I guess what I really would like, would be to have googles maps PRE-LOADED on my SD. I just want to be able to find my location if I'm out of cell service (or whatever provides the data used to load google maps).
Thank you guys so far for your recommendations. any other info, etc will be greatly appreciated.

Both of the apps famewolf mentioned above will come very close to that (and are free), they just use a different map source. The second one he mentioned is actually called OpenMobileMaps, but it does use the OpenStreetMap.org's database. Here's the link for that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597957
Now, I googled "caching google maps" (on the full 'net, not just xda), and the 3rd link that came up was this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351001
I have no idea if it'll work on the HD2, but I think it's the closest possiblity available to exactly what you're looking for.
Also note that if you want stuff for free, you're going to have to do a little work. You will not find the easy installed, easy setup, works perfectly and exactly as you'd like it too apps that you can "sometimes" find in payware apps. With free apps, the more complex the app, the more fiddling and setup you'll have to do on your own.

My tone was sharp because you started out by asking for "hacked versions of these programs" and not for freeware/shareware. It's also generally considered polite to do a search via XDA first before requesting aid...you get even more help if you say "I did a search and found blah blah and blah but they are not giving me exactly what I'm looking for...anyone have more suggestions".
Another alternative that might work for you, but only if other folks are submitting map updates in your area is http://www.waze.com/
"Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road.
100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. "
Garmin Mobile Xt runs nicely from the 16gb card that came with my HD2. Preloaded the North American Map onto it and even some other bluecharts, hiking maps and a couple of EU cities.
Mobile XT uses the AGPS chip in the HD2 and picks up satellites fast. It stays connected farly well. Only thing it won't do is speak street names.

I'm not new to XDA or PPC, but new to GPS software, jargon, and usage. So forgive me noob question, but I've been reading for days and still a little confused. Features and limitations and jargon on all these sites gets overwhelming. Basically, I'm looking for a GPS software that runs from SD as well, but with 3 more important features/questions:
1. turn-by-turn voice navigation for car use
2. load offline topography maps for hiking, maybe even geocaching/tracking w/altitude, speed, distance, etc.
3. search engine or preloaded POI searching
I understand iGo, TomTom, CoPilot do the car nav and I understand Navicomputer, OpenMobileMaps, and Litetrack do the offline maps and geocaching, but is their an app that does both. I think from the above post z3Bum stated Garmin XT does this so i'm wondering if I missed the big picture and all the 3rd party GPS apps have ability to view and load offline apps and maybe even have geocaching and tracking with all the distance, altitude, etc. goodies. And if so, do the 3rd party apps allow you to load only their maps (if they have them) or can you use maps from other sources?
Do I have to use 3 different apps to achive this (Google Maps = search, TomTom = voice turn-by-turn, NaviComputer = offline geocaching/tracking) or can I do all this with one app? I've been reading and learning for hours and a couple of days now, so I might just be burnt out and everything jumbled, so I apologize if this is an dumb question, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks and hopefully I have not taken post to far off topic.
Edit: got Garmin Mobile XT and it does everything I need it to do. Had to use a little workaround found on XDA to allow me to view multiple maps with Mobile Xt (city nav maps + topo maps) and now I'm happy as can be.
