Media Players that play .MKV - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Are there any? If not what are some good players that play most video formats? Also what are some good conversion programs to use that change the format and resolution?

Core Player plays most of the formats including MKV

Can we make Omnia i8000 media player directly play .mkv files?

maybe i missed it, but I cannot directly play .mkv files from the stock media player in Omnia i8000. Is there a way to make it compatible? I am currently converting .mkv to .mp4 or .avi to play them on my i8000. BTW this player is really good. no lagging or screen tearing or anything.

i'm also looking for proper mkv player.
TCPMP is very lagging
It would be great if we can play mkv files on TouchPlayer. It is one of the good player for video files, but really frustrating to use with large number of audio files.

does mediascape play mp4 videos?

i have different video files (avi, mkv, mp4, etc.) and i usually use rockplayer since i don't have to convert the files..
avi files on rockplayer is awesome.. no lag, no errors..
but when i play my mp4 files, it lags and in some parts the sound disappears and then appears again..
and then i noticed that mediascape 'recognizes' the mp4 files and shows them on the 'recently added' section. so i played it and voila, it works perfectly without any lags or skips.. HOWEVER, i couldn't get the sound to work at all!
so does mediascape not play mp4 videos? or is it just my mediascape having problems? if so, can u guys recommend me a better player that will play mkv and/or mp4 without lags? thanks!
avi, mp4 and some other video formats are actually wrappers. what matters is the video and audio format inside. the mediascape player is actually quite nice, no lag, even play wmv straight out of the box.
yeah the only problem being that my mp4 files don't play any audio on mediascape..
Must be the video cause I got lots of mp4 files and they run perfectly in mediascape.

Check which codec was used to encode the video... could be an unsupported codec.
Mods: shouldn't this (and 10 other threads) be moved to the q/a section?

Divx

Can anybody confirm if Divx files stream?
If you use qqplayer, vplayer or a number of other market players u can download, you can play divx, mkv, xvid..what ever ur heart wants.
Do they work good. I tried rock pplayer but it doesn't seem to be hardware acceletated
VPlayer loads and I've tried a xvid .avi, and a mkv and neither play. It acts like it's going to but then takes you back to the file list.
Rock player played my MKV but no audio, wouldnt play the avi.
Would love to know if the Xoom can play at least a 720P mkv file. With the hardware it has, it SHOULD be able to play a 1080P mkv file if it had hardware acceleration, which it doesn't.
If the Galaxy tab 10.1 is anything like Samsung's smartphones it will have hardware acceleration on avi and mkv files.
Rockplayer worked fine for me, watch a divx and a mp4.

Just tried vplayer and qqplayer on Xoom. Although they install, they do not work. vplayer will not even play the video and qqplayer attempts to play but the video is jerky and the progress bar is across the middle of the screen.
why not try moboplayer?
it's also a great player, it can play plays a wide array of formats, i enjoy my HD mkv and mp4 files on my XOOM, i just can say it's great indeed!
Buy dice player.
The only player that plays your files with HARDWARE decoding which can save you precious battery life.

Video Format Playback (AVI)

Hey everyone,
I've been trying out all the different apps that claim to be able to play an impressive array of video formats, but none of them can play a simple avi video file (even though it says avi support/playback in the app descriptions).
So, my question for you is, have any of you discovered a way to watch avi files, or any other video formats on the legend without flat out converting it to a playable format? (ex wmv, 3gp, mpeg are the ones supported i believe). Post your comments/thoughts/experiences!
Thanks for reading,
Michael
yxplayer or something like that, and rock player are doing just fine for me...
Vplayer is good
Sent from my HTC Legend
Just for the record, note that AVI is not a video format but a video container.
An AVI video can be encoded in MPEG4, WMV and so on, so even all the players claims they can play AVI videos, that doesn't meant they can play all the formats found in AVI files.
FYI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Interleave
And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_container_formats
Never the less it's not the format that is not supported by the Android core, it's the container...
That's why AVI video will consume much more computing power, the program just has to calculate those frames "manually"...

[Q] Windows Media video?

Can I do a modification to enable it after it's rooted?
I tried to play .wmv files with floor model but I have no luck.
I have a lot of ripped DVDs in .mp4 (480p) format, but I also have several .wmv files downloaded. The size will drastically increase if I re-encode to .mp4 without degrading quality.
i think its in /etc/media_profiles.xml in bottom of file, change to "yes" and save back.
remember to have system r/w
MKV
You can attempt to convert the files to MKV.
The system by default does not play back this file source but there is a player called Mobo Player available on the market.
I have done a few mp4 720p conversions to mkv 720p and I am pleased to say they worked while not being to to big (average size is 1-2gigs per 1.5hrs)
I have read reports that Diceplayer handles mkv files. You might want to give that a try.
