Typing numbers during a phone call - Hero, G2 Touch General

Is there a way to type numbers during a phone call, and right after hanging up dialing that number. This is very usefull for example if I talk with someone who gives me another number to call.
In my Hero, even if I am typing a number, when call ends, the number disappears.
thanks

i dont think there is out of the box.
download a notes app from the market.
while on a call, press home to get out of the phone app (it won't hang up) and then open the app.
that's the only way i know of anyway.

Either the notes app or save the new number as a contact..both can be done during a call.

So I can call the last person (just hit phone * phone). On the default phone screen (with the keypad, speed dial, call history, etc), is it possibl e easily get to speed dial or something of the sort?
I can hit phone * right rocker (menu), then get to speed dial, but it takes a lot of taps. Why isn't the numberpad accessible with the 4-way? Argh.

Option 1. Use Voice Speed Dial. Go to settings and set up your voice tags first. Then click the button on the left face at the top and speak the name. Phone dials! Only one click needed.
Option 2. Use Microsoft Voice Command. Don't have to tag first, will find anything in your contact list. Most of the time.
Option 3. Same as 1 or 2, but get a BT headset and click on its button instead of the phone button. Don't even have to touch the phone.
Option 4. Set up one-touch dialing. Go to contacts, press and hold a number, then do "Voice Dial" option. Assign to a digit 1-9. Then bring up the keypad and press and hold that same digit.
I've been complaining about this same UI gripe.
Wouldn't it be nice to hit call and go to the dial screen, and then use the up/down buttons to access the recent calls list like on a normal smartphone?

Or like my old Nokia 6310: just browse through your contacts with the up/down button. You can do that, but you can hardly see anything from a bit further away (when the phone is in a holder on the dash in the car). It should be possible to configure a mode where you only see names and numbers in a big font when using the phone. I don't care about addresses and stuf when I'm calling. It's a wonderful machine, but the phone is only usable when standing still...
I just set up 9 speed dial numbers. I hit the phone key, than tap and hold on number 1-9 and the associated number is dialed. Only minus is that you have to remember which contact is under which number. Takes only two taps.
In contacts, you can choose menu-options and have the contacts list show only only the names instead of the numbers as well. By pressing the right of the D-pad you can choose which number must be the first in the list. Then hide the numbers and just press to call. I admit, the contacts are a bit small when you are in e.g. a car. I set up the most used number of each contact, only if I want to reach them on another number I have to go into the contact itself to select the right number.
Do I have to BUY Voice Dial Software?
I previously had the O2 XDAII that had Fonix Fone Dial included in the bundle. I've now bought the Orange SPVM1500 (Alpine) but no voice dial apps are included.
Anyone know where I can get a voice-dial application for free?
Cheers from a hopeful newbie to this site.
I, too, was finding it tedious to perform simple phone function like quick dial or dedial. After I installed MS Voice Command, this phone is 100% easier to dial. Just push the button on phone or bluetooth headset, say "call last" to redial, or "call mike smith at mobile". Works extremely well without any training needed.
You can also say stuff like:
What is my signal strength
what is my battery level
what calls have I missed
play media
open start word
etc
I am still learning all the commands, but so far it's being one of the best software for PPC.
I want to chime in to say MS Voice Command is the BEST! Push ONE button and say "Call Emily on mobile". It even works with your bluetooth headset button. It doesn't get any easier folks!
I want it for FREE.
Trouble is, I had the facility before (Fonix VoiceDial) and now I don't.
I, therefore, want some FREE voice dial software. Anyone got any ideas please?
Thanks.
Am I missing something here?
U just press the button above thered call button to go into your contacts and move to the one you want... then call...
If you want a call history on a click of a button why dont you try and replace contacts or calender with call history?
I use vijay's callhistory prog,
http://www.vijay555.com/index.php?Releases:VJPhoneShortcuts
and I have remapped the left soft key, and it's one click away
OK after much messing with BT stuff and how much hastle it is. Im looking at sticking with wired headset that comes with the XDA2i, is it possible to get the unit to open a voice dial program from pressing the green button on the headset lead?? i havent used any voice dial progs, i dont have time to be messing trying out loads of progs and resting the xda all the time. I just want to have a prog installed. Listen to my music and tomtom5, answer calls like I can currently but then with the press of the green button switch to the voice dial prog.. tell it who to call chat then press the red button to end the call and switch back to the music and tomtom5.
can it be done and if so i need idiot guide... im not a hacker/programmer, ive never used a reg edit, have not idea what an extended rom etc is.
Many thanks
Try smartskey that remap navigator buttons in phone app to contacts/call history/quick dial.

Get smartskey. After pressing the the phone button (green call button), you can then just press up or down to get to your speed dial list or call history. This program has made my life with the Wizard a million times easier. Voice Dial and Voice Command are both good programs for touch free dialing as many others have suggested.
use smarstkey, vjphoneshortcuts. assign the left softkey to call history and the right to contacts. when you hold the down key in "contacts" for a while it starts to change the letters so you just press one of the soft keys a little of up and down and the green key

inserting pauses for Wing speed dialing

No one at T-Mobile has the answer and HTC tech support referred me here. I dial my office voice mail maybe 10-15 times a day. On my Sprint phone I was able to insert pauses in the dialing. It would dial the number, pause for the voice command, add a string of numbers, pause for the next voice command, and finally put in my password. So I could press 3, for example, and it would take me all the way through to my messages. So far I can not find a way to put in the pauses on the Wing. So I have to press 3 and then wait for the voice command, and then manually put in the next string of numbers, then wait again for the next voice command, and then put in the password. This is time consuming and impossible to do while driving. Anyone know if it can be done on the Wing? If so, how? Thanks, Tom
I have not tried it on the Wing... But try just putting a comma "," in the dialing string... Should work.... Does on all my other phones......
Commas
I tried this. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think so. In my contacts I go to the phone number. Here is the string I use (with x's for most of the numbers): 1802xxxxxxx,,,#802xxxxxxx,,,xxxxxx
I have this as a speed dial and also as a T-Mobile Fav. Any way I try to dial it it only dials the 1802xxxxxxx and then stops.
There is no way to insert pauses
I have now been told by someone who seems to know at T-Mobile that the Wing has no way to insert pauses into a contact phone number. To me this is a near fatal flaw. It means that if I call my office voice mail 5-10 times a day I have to type 16 extra digits (which includes my phone number and my password) each time I try to get my messages. Oh well.

I have 'p' as a pause digit and it works fine to call my voice mail for example...
P's don't work for me

Tried it on the Wing but no luck. When I dial with the P's added, the dialing never gets past the first string of numbers. On the dialing screen there are no P's and nothing past the first string. This is true for comma's also. When I tried it with ***'s it did appear, these did appear on the dialing screen of the Wing when I dialed but the call clicked off without dialing with the message, "Call Ended." One thing I noticed is that Outlook takes anything after the first string of numbers and puts the rest under "Extension" and puts an x before it. But I'm having the problem even if I enter the number only on the Wing and not in Outlook.
My mistake -- p's work and also commas

Yes! I see what I was doing wrong. A comma or a "p" both work fine. Thanks for the help.
One problem remains: I have this number as one of My Fav's, and if I dial it using My Fav, it doesn't do the pauses. I think I have to wait until July 1 and refresh the My Fav. -- I hope.
And what have you done wrong? (Just to solve this one exactly)

At least this: When did the speed dial (after inserting the pauses), at least a few times I did not wait long enough for the pause to kick in. On my Sprint phone I think it happened quicker with more pauses (I think), and I was used to have it happen quickly.
The Call Ended message that kept happening may possibly have been due to being out of a service area, but I tested at the time and other calls were going through, so I'm not sure what happened.
Finally, I haven't synced it back with my desktop yet. I hope the Outlook on the desktop doesn't screw things up.
One more thing if it is useful: T-Mobile has these My Fav's. If I dial using the speed dial or directly from the number itself, it is working. But if I dial directly from the My Fav's it does not insert the pause. I think the reason is that I uploaded the My Fav number to T-Mobile before I put in all the pauses, so T-Mobile must have it and be using it without the pauses. On the first of the month I intend to upload it again with the pauses and see if that will work. Hope so.
Thanks, Tom
we can also use a 'w' to insert a wait
along with the 'p' for pause, a 'w' can also be used to insert a wait. That would be useful when you are not sure how long to pause and want control of when to send the rest of the DTMF sequence. If you insert a 'w', you have to keep pressing the Green Call button and it will keep sending the DTMF sequence till the next 'w' in the number.
I use that very frequently to dial international phone numbers with different calling cards.
a w may work on the wing, most current android phones it seems like a ";" is whats required for the wait tone. also a comma is used for pause (3 seconds)but the easiest way i found to do it is by simply pressing the menu button while in the dialpad screen, it will pop up with options to add wait's or pause's

Dialer behaviour R2BA020

Hi all,
I am with Rogers and just upgraded to R2BA020. I notice previously from tapping a contact number contacts, it can dial out directly. But now it is extremely annoying that I tap the contact number, it puts the number into the dialer (screen with dialing pad), then I hit the call to dialout.
Does anybody find the dial from contacts behaviour changed?
Is there a dialer that can completely replace the stock one?
Thanks
i haven't received any updates for my phone yet, but that sounds more hassle to make a call now. maybe this change is for people who complained about accidentally tapping on the number and it calls out when they did not intend to do so. mind as well just tap and hold on the contact's name and select make a call to mobile/home/office
Meh, that doesn't seem too bad, but it is annoying nonetheless. I think if you dial, and put the phone by your ear, it should use the proximity sensor to realize it should start calling.
Android Variations: Check em out!
Yes, i too noticed this ! Funny instead of making the call process easier its now actually longer !
The workaround is to go to ur phonebook & long press the contact to call.
yup, long press can skip the dialpad but it brings up another box to click through before calling....
I have never came across a phonebook with any phone that is 2 clicks before it dials. It is just pure annoying. They got it right the first time, I don't know why SE messed it up now.
yeah, i have a rooted x10a to the 23 firmware, and its taking me to the dailer after i hit my contact's number. this is rather annoying, we gotta find a fix for it!!
Yes I noticed that too. I find it annoying. Is there a work around to this?
I use another dialler called aTAKEphONE, it will dial directly.
There is a trial available at shsh.com

Contacts arent called when clicking number

when i go into the contacts menu, choose a contact and press the number to dial, instead of going straight into dialing mode which it did before the rogers update, it now displays the number when clicking the number in which i have to press call, a whole extra step. Any ways to fix this?
i thought it should seen as a improvement?
now you can now always edit before call , previously you need to call first and edit the number from call list
Does it for me too, but as a lot of my contacts have two numbers I prefer it as I don't always tap the right number.

well, when I do travel, because of Roaming/Local numbers, I prefer the number showing up instead of call direct , STILL, I would like a fast way to call, I do at the moment 4 taps to it...

Dialer Automatically Dials

I have noticed that if you click on a number in a text message or a contact, it automatically dials the number. This is a big annoyance for me because I get texts from my paging service and sometimes the numbers are a little messed up like "call back room 501 732-555-1234" If I click that, it dials 501-732-5551 234 which obviously doesnt work. I have to copy, past then delete. My GNex would just go to the dialer but not dial, and I would delete the 501 and then press dial. Also if you accidently touch a number in a contact...boom, your dialing them! Any settings Im missing?
Just if anyone wants this changed too, using things like GoContacts doesn't change anything, it still just automatically dials. Wonder if there is a simple mod for this someone could look for.
