That file create/backup your current ROM in your Viva, you can dump it, here the tool:
http://www.4shared.com/file/140853687/23e27b43/htcRIE_05012.html
If you use official ROM or unprotected ROM, you will success dump it, but if you use protected ROM, the result is in one folder only and you can't use it as base ROM.

Can we create the ultimate ROM???

We have the technology we can rebuilt it.
It occured to me that we should be able to build the ultimte "base" rom to use in the kitchen.
I would propose that it be based on the TMO 4.01.16 but make the installation of all the additional apps such as TMO toolbar, myemail, pdf and ppt viewers optional. I would also propose that sample windows media files and be removed.
Such a rom would give us the maximum space into which to add the appilications we chose but still allow us the flexibility to add some of the apps and settings that service providers supply. (much as the old Devlopers ROM did)
Just a thought

PS 3 cheers for Lumpistefan and Makis!!! :!: :!: :!:
That is a good idea. I think we can do it with mkrom.zip. We will need a linux op. but I think it will do the job under windows with cygwin.
I started to see the txt files, ini files etc, but I am at the beginning.
I want to make a good rom, like you. With no helps, no unneccesarry files, custom files (my ringtones for example) in the rom.
I only need time.
how
can you actually remove files from ROM ?
I couldn`t do it.
It will be great indeed.

We want to build a ROM without some files. Not to remove files from a working ROM in the devices flash memory.
There is a file in the mkrom/cfg folder:
initobj.txt
It contains a filelist. I think there is a place to delete the files. But I have not tried. I have not time now.

I think this is the big problem.....
Until now it´s not possible to remove Files from the rom....
What should be able is overwriting files from the ROm. But i think this doesn´t make much sense....

You're wrong.the initobj.txt file just conatins a list where to copy some files out of the rom. All Files are located in \Windows. The initobj.txt files contains the list, which file should be moved to wihich directory.
90% of this are the files in "Start Menu" and Help ....
So i see now chance to delete files out of the rom....

Stefan I can get from you this file is like the Config.txt in the Extended_Rom in Himalaya. I can understand now how you could remove the Msn messenger shortcut into \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\INTERNET\CHAT & IM ????

How to extract files from ATOM ROM?

As we know, to upgrade ATOM ROM we have to lauch an exe file downloaded from seeo2.com. But we cannot extract any file from this exe file except Boot.nb0 and this file is useless. Does anyone know how to extract other files from it. As I know, there are at least following files inside this exe file:
eboot.nb0
dm.nb0
flash.img
agent.mot
mot.mot
CPLD.img
assetinf.img
extended.img
MDOC.img
Its strange that there is no .nbf file at all. Is there any method to dump the ROM from a working ATOM? Can the Grabit utility grap ATOM ROM to SD? Will it be usable ?
I have dumped it already and uploaded here, but i do not remember are the files you search there.

When you double click the exe file, it will extract files to Windows\Temp foler, files are all hidden.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but I was provided with
Xda-Atom-ENG-20060123_Feb2006_.exe
Double click. This will extract to your root drive
c:\
Device Software Update Utility.exe
diskimage_Ver.nb0
Extendedrom.img
nova_pda_033105.mot
vl1d_pda_Ver.mot
Extendedrom.img can be opened with winimage.
diskimage_Ver.nb0 - can't remember how I dealt with it, but in the "usual" ways I guess! Mamaich's romtools I suppose. Thanks Mamaich!
If anyone can, I could still really do with a live rom dump, using this app:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/!Tools/dump_167.exe
I'm not sure if it works on the Atom, but I'd be grateful if someone could try it and let me know. A couple of nice guys have tried and failed
V
Vijay dear friend..
like i told you before...
the DUMP didn't work..
but you have the lastest rom.
any way, in a week or so, a new rom is about to come out, may the new rom could be dumped...?!?
Nadavi..
Exactly assasins, and I'm really grateful for the info.
I've dumped the rom file above, but a dump from the rom isn't the most useful ways to get files out of it. Some files aren't usable from there, so a live dump is best. But not to worry, I'll live without for now.
Oh, but I could still do with an atom registry dump if someone can send me that... gracias!

I think it extracts them to a folder on your sd card, called Dump.
If you've got an eten dump, I could do with one of those as well.
I didn't write this app - I can't even remember where it came from. If anyone wants to volunteer as the author, I'd like to know more about the app!

Will I think it's not working hear
noyhing in my SD or TMP folder
thanks for your help

Guys, what's the storage card called on the Atom?
Is it still called \storage card\?
V
xda atom

2. After performing a few searches, i coudln't find out how to change the boot screen. Does anyone know how?

I have the default rom which i downloaded off HTC.com... how do i extract the nbh file from the exe? i tried to run the setup to see if it would extract files in any temp folder but i could not find it.
Help anyone?

It is possible to use Dutty's good NBH tool for extracting NBs from NBH. I think it is more n00b friendly way as they can use point and click method and thay are not bound to have NBH in the same folder.

nbhextract will convert the .nb files directly to bmp in the same process. Duttys tool just extracts the nb files.
Thanks for the help.
Unfortunately, the rom i downloaded from htc, has a .nbf file instead of a .nbh file (which is 73.xx megs). When i use the extractor, i get error :
Error: 'nk.nbf' is not a valid .nbh file
Could not open 'tempfile.dbh'
I also tried to change the extension of the nbf file to nbh but that did not help either as i got the same error. I'm downloading the rom from http://www.america.htc.com/support/docs/ruu_hermes_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe

How to extract CAB files from a ROM?

Hey there,
I have a ROM that I flashed onto my phone, and there are some CABs that installed after I started the phone for the first time that I would like to get out of the ROM.
What is the best way to do this, if it is even possible. Sorry if this has been asked before or if it seems like a noob question.
Surely someone can help me? I've searched and can't find anything =(
Well, first you can begin checking in your 'windows' folder and copy those *.cab files from there. I think including the panelmanager.cab even.
The other cab files are probably 'made' by some of the people here.
Is there a way to extract all the CABs from the ROM, when the ROM is still on my PC?
theres a new program by dutty that unpacks any nbh file..so im guessing u can extract d rom and look for the cab u want..

[Q] Tips on building images for the WM 6.5 emulator

I did some searching because i need a sense rom for the WM emulator to help me test a program i'm working on and i came up with nothing. So i figured it would be a good idea to try and cook one but i need some tips coz i've only ever cooked one rom before and it didn't really go well.
So thoughts and suggestions below please. I'm looking for kitchen suggestions etc.
Thanks guys.
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774430 I find it easy to create a self customized rom.

Cool, thanks, but i don't see how i'm gonna make this compatible with the emulator in the windows mobile SDK? have you got any more pointers on how to do that?
My kitchen is designed to allow you to build the rom the way you want it. It then outputs the rom as a .nbh file that allows you to flash to the phone. Your emulator sounds interesting.
You may be able to use the .nbh file and then read that into your emulator.

Nope, can't do that. i tried it with a copy of NRGZ28's energy rom. It has to be a .bin or .nb0 file.
Now i did some reading while i was writing this and it turns out a .nb0 file is the same as the old school .nb rom dump files i just need to figure out how to convert an nbh to a nb0 file
Thoughts?
*edit*
found a tool called nbhtool by dutty that should do it
*edit 2*
dutty's tool didn't do it but i did find this tool by Da_G. The problem is i still get invalid image errors from the sdk emulator. I have searched but not found any answers so i'm a little lost.
Any ideas, guys?
Hi,
Can you post here an nb0 that works on the emulator?
we can try to import on our kitchens and check if we can rebuild it with sense.
If we can make it works, we can save a lot of time of 'flashing' when testing changes.

The files in the emulator are actually .bin files but i gather that internally they are the same format. They are also 96mb in size so it's gonna take a while to upload to hotfile. I'll post back when i have a link for you.
Thanks for all the effort btw. I really do appreciated it.
link as promise: http://hotfile.com/dl/129295626/a4324d3/PPC_USA_GSM_WVGA_VR.BIN.html
M3PH, OsBuilder makes rom either in nbh, or in nb0 format. It's a professional tool - not just a "kitchen to cook".
HTCRIE (htc rom image editor) can extract the OS.nb from a .NBH file..
can you just rename the .nb to .nb0 if they are the same?
Ok i've got osbuilder. Had a quick read of the manual. Now what? do i need the sys/xip for a build? i am a complete noob at this so lots of help would be appreciated.
I've just tried to open an emulator image from the windows mobile 6 sdk with HTCRIE and got an invalid file format error. This is starting to become extremely frustrating. Especially as i can find any information on the actual format of the emulator bin files.
Did any of you guys get any luck with the file i provided? Coz i'm really stuck!
