if you're rooted, create a folder on the sd card called media. then create another folder inside it called audio. then create another inside the audio folder called notifications. put all youre custom tones in that notifications folder and you're all set.
do u mind teaching me more on rooted?

Why do say "if you're rooted"?
The exact same thing can be done with a non-rooted phone by plugging it up to a pc and clicking mount
As a matter of fact the audio pack that's an addition to cyan's builds sit's in a folder called audio on my sdcard and my phone reads the ringtone's & notification's from it
so wat u mean is i juz have to plug my phone to a pc then cre8 the folder according?

Yea it pretty much just that easy
k i will try... thxz for all that
Create a folder on your CD card called ringtones, and one called notifications and put the files you want in each one.
i still cant have my own msg ringtones... i cre8 2 folder in my sd card after that i put the songs/ringtones that i wan in thr... after that i disconnect the usb frm my phone.... then when i go into my phone settings, and i tap on notificatons settings - select ringtones, i still cant find the song/ringtones that i wan... i really nid help here thxz in advance
I have mine setup like this:
root>My Audio/Ringtones and root >My Audio/Notifications
So I'm not sure if you need to name it any specific thing.
an easier way is to use ringdroid and everything will be made for you. But if you create the folder make a folder called media and inside that folder make 2 folders, one called notification and the other ringtone.
yeah just as supremeteam456 said.. u can use ringroid or another app called rings extended..
Create folders on SD card:
alarms/
notifications/
ringtones/
And place media accordingly. What format are the items you're trying to use? MP3? WAV? Other?

Running CM 4.2.7, ringtones
hey guys, i found this post but it doesn't seem to answer anything, i'll make a new thread if I can't get an answer out of this one.
So I've been running cyanogen's mod for a while now, and i haven't been able to change my notification ringtones. I have ringdroid and rings extended, and i know how to change the ringtones, but everytime I click 'ok' or 'accept' or whatever it is, when it reloads the settings menu, the default ringtone is still selected, as if i never tried to change it.
any ideas?

HD2 Silent No Sounds Or Tones?

Hi all, HELP!!!
I have just spent 4 weeks setting up my phone, i have everything just as i want it.
But i noticed today when i received some txt messages it was silent, now when i select any sound for anything, ie events or ringtones its just silent, i hear nothing???.
If i move the volume slider i here the ping sound of the volume changing, so there is sound.
Now, if i go to the all settings menu, and try to assign a sound in the windows menu, when i click on a sound it shuffles through the entire list and stops back where it was in a second, almost like it cant find the sounds or something weird is going on???
Now this happened once before, and i restored using a SPB backup, but this time i have overwritten my backup with this before i realized what had happened.
Whats going on??????
Update, when i select a ringtone from the menu, and select it, when i go back on the menu it says ringtone "none"
???
I'm also having a similar issue with my HD2 (using 1.61 WWE rom).
The phone rings when I receive an incoming call but not when I get a txt. I can select a tone in Settings - Sound & Display - Notification Sounds and it will play the demo. My settings are saved but it just doesn't make a noise when I get a txt.
Any clues, anyone?
No this is different, i have no sounds at all, no ringtones, nothing, its as if they are just not there, the sounds are still in the windows DIR, but something looks different on the DOR layout, im sure the sounds were stored somewhere else too.
If i have to reformat my phone because of this im gonna freak damit, as this is not the first time.
Can anybody upload an image of the root DIR layout, or let me know of the sounds are stored anywhere else but the WIN DIR?
PS Where you get the 1.61 WWE rom?
I found a fix, use mem maid to transfer temp files to the storage card, including sounds, when you rebbot, it reverts to main memory but your sounds work again

[Q] Ringtones in memory not found by Android, files exist

As title says, I am suddenly unable to set any ringtone, notification, etc on my ICS Android (HD2).
The files are there (in phone memory - \system\media\ringtones), the phone is rooted and the file permissions are fine.
But yet the ringtones do not appear in the respective lists in Settings.
Powering off does not seem to help.
Any ideas?
copy from other rom
copy from other roms ring tones to your file
Thx, but that doesn't make any sense to me.
I already have my ringtone files on my PC and I could easily re-upload them in the proper folder on the Android. But when I do so, they still do not appear...Used to work fine...
Anyone? Thx
Same pb
Hello,
I am having almost the same problem.
Sometimes impossible to find the rings while they are still on the phone.
Often, the system is in read / open and not read / write, after a reboot or two, everything falls into place.
But I do not know whence can this problem.
Good luck and tell us if you find
Franky
try an app like ring tone maker.
works like a charm for finding files and using them for rings/notifications etc
am using American Android Rom and ring tone maker to set the rings
Such programs usually store their ringtone files on the SD Card, which is not what I am looking for.
I want my files loaded from the memory - and they are already there and worked before, that's what pisses me off..

Ringtone and notification change in S4

Hello
I want to add custom notification sound for my S4, I have them in mp3 format
I put these files in media\audio\notifications and it didn't show in the list
I tried also in \Notifications and they didn't also!!
each time i try a reboot to make it rescan for the new media but still no luck!
is there is a working way for this to add my tones? I tried zedge and it works but I can't add my tones to it..
I think about convert the files to .ogg and put them in system/media but this will only work for rooted phones and I guess there is another solution for that much easier!
thanks

Hi,
Try putting a folder on the root of your sd card, and call it "Notifications".
Put your mp3's in there and try again.
thanks for reply
I already tried that and wrote this on the OP,and it doesn't work too!!
and for ringtones I add them to ringtones folder and the tones never show up until I reboot the phone!
Using zedge and Ringtone maker adds the notifications and I found them instantly
maybe there is something in these apps makes the phone rescan media or what, the thing is I have a nexus 7 and once I add mp3 file to notification folder I find it in the list instantly!!
thanks

If you push the mp3 notifs to the Notification folder, you would definitely have to reboot for it to take effect
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
Ok, then its normal to reboot to see the tone, I was thinking there is something wrong with me as this is not the case on my nexus 7 tablet.
thanks
I have the solution!!
I had the exactly the same problem with my S4(i9500). I've searched across the web to get a solution but in the end I've found it on my own.
> Install ES file explore
> clear defaults for Media Storage(default android sound picker). ( you may not need to do this)
> go to sound settings then notifications (or message settings then select ringtone whatever u want to change)
> you should see a dialog like complete action using : ES file explorer, Media storage, zedge (if u have it)
> choose ES and hit Just once(so you won't have to clear defaults every time)
> navigate to sound file u want and hit it.
I hope this helps.
LoL, I have the solution.
Now let's get back to reality, how to get media store to list all the sounds i downloaded from the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895636
Anyone with at least the smallest noodle knows to chose es file explorer to be able to chose one sound at a time to Add. So how to get all the sounds to list from media storage
No one knows

Yeah it has one way. U can put the mp3 files in the folder u want, this isnt important. Follow this steps:
1. Go to Apps, Settings, My device, Sound, Ringtones
2. Look for button "Add"
3. Add the sounds u want one by one
4. When u have them in that list, click OK
5. Now u can go Default notification sound
6. Select the one u need added manually b4
7. Enjoy ur new notification sound! I hope it helped ya :highfive:
LoL., even the basic of n00bs knows to use es file explorer to add one sound at a time, although what about when you have 1500 of them from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895636
No one knows how to have these new sounds automatically show up, settings , sounds , media storage. Well maybe someone knows how and just never said a word because it's confidential and they Could possible be reprimanded big time, lol

[Q] Can't change my ringtone all of a sudden

Hey guys,
I've got a Nexus 4 running the latest version of Cyanogenmod.
Every things been fine with the phone until I woke up this morning and found I'd lost my custom ringtone. Also, my photo's wern't showing up in Gallery. I connected my phone up to my PC to see what was what. (Half the time my computer won't open the phone, it just opens up saying '0 items', and I have to un-plug and re-plug in the phone several times before it lets me access the internal storage).
I found that nothing had changed; everything was still on my phone, all my pictures, ringtones etc. I quickly backed them all up to my PC in case the Nexus decided to delete them.
I really don't understand why my phone is doing this. I've put my custom .mp3 ringtone in every audio folder I could find;
Media>Audio>Notifications>Ringtones
Music
Notifications
Ringtones
I've got the song saved in about 8 different locations on the phone, and it still won't recognise it in the ringtones options. I've tried various 'ringtone-setting' apps, but they haven't worked. They told me that my custom ringtone was selected but when the phone rang, it used the default tone.
ALSO, when I tried to put my photos back on my phone (DCIM>Camera) they arn't showing up in my Gallery.
Any one else experience similar problems and knows a solution?
Many thanks

Use file explorer and start to hunt down a file name ".nomedia" (without quotes), the file explorer need to have "show hidden files" enabled. For your case, most likely there is one placed under /sdcard.

There isn't a .nomedia file in the root of the storage but there is a NOMEDIA file in the Notifications folder.
