Problems :-( Un mounted SDCARD - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I´m pretty new into Android stuff
But I have a HTC Magic 32 B Vodafonebranded
Everything turned out fine,
rooted and played with it using different Rom's
Using Amon's 1.2.1G Recovery img
Something went wrong, dont know when.
At the moment I´m in this state:
No installed ROM up and running.
FASTBOOT
Able to Start it in Fastboot (Back+Power)
From here it is NOT possible to
use Fastboot to load Recovery IMG from PC.
(Get black screen trying to fastboot a recovery.img)
Possible to use flash-command
but i get "signature-check fail" when trying to flash images.
RECOVERY-Mode (Home+Power)
Able to start in Recovery-mode
but I can not use options in menu
due to SDCard is not mounted
This SDCard problem makes it impossible to restore Backup
it is also impossible to use Option Update from menu
cause it checks for SDCard.
Can anyone help me get my Phone up and running again ?
Could it be possible to upload system.img+boot.img ..
to other location in phone and use adb Flashing
to restore those img´s ?
thx in advance

Retarded question I know but, have you pulled your battey? Then try to get into recovery on reboot?

Yes for sure,
the battery has been in and out lots of times
during my struggling.
I can boot directly into recovery,
but no access to SDCard from there.

what recovery do you run? if you have 1 click root w/ cyan 1.4 there is no way to mount sd from recovery.
If that is the case do you have a sd adapter? if so place a ROM to the root of your Sd you should be able to flash in recovery from there.

I have RAv 1.2.1G as Recovery img
Problem is Unmounted SDCard,
trying menus to Update or Restore Backup
gives me error msg's
"Cant find E:..... (SDCard)
If I only could get my SDCard mounted, I probably can
Update with a new Rom or restore a Backup.

So you cant mount SD from RA from recovery?

In sd adapter ferormat card.

Card is running perfectly well in my Girlfriends Magic
Also tried another Card in my Magic, but No Go :-(

This is a really dumb question but..... is it your comp or phone telling you that error. I have never seen my phone refer to my SD as the E drive.
Sorry is all the small questions a bothering you. Its a little more difficult for me to diagnoise problems online, if I can physically see the phone thing go alot fast.

The error was from Phone in Recovery mode
trying to Restore from menu.
I finally succeeded in flashing old Backup img´s
using
adb flash_image ..bla.bla.bla
And now for sure, Phone is Bricked, dead, completely Black
will send it to Vodafone service-center and keep my thumbs crossed
hoping they will return a new or at least a working one.
Thank You very much for spending your time trying to help me.

Help think I might have bricked my Magic(32A)

Hi,
I feel very bad asking but can you please help me with my Magic(32A) - Rogers.
Here is the story,
I bought the phone on ebay and the seller indicated that he rooted the phone before he sold me. So I thought okay as its rooted I can go to fast boot and just apply update.zip. So I did the below
1. switched off the phone
2. pressed home + power on and went to fast boot
3. did clean swipe
4. applied update.zip
It applied the custom rom(CyanogenMod 32a) and after that I am stuck on Roger's boot-up screen. So after this I removed my battery and I tried to going to fastboot and clicking Nandriod v2.1.1 restore and I get this error "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkop1". After that I did wipe and tried to apply restore but can "Error running nandriod restore. Restore not performed".
Can you please advise me of any options I have to restore my magic back.
Thanking you
FD
If you where not flashing the SPL you "should" still be ok if you can get into fastboot.
If you can just try to apply the ROM again, you might want to download another copy or different ROM (Hero maybe).
Clinton
do me a fav and power on holding down the vol down. see if you go into fastboot. if you do then you are not bricked. if so, see what your radio and spl is plus check if your (s) is off. if so you are rooted and you flashed the wrong board rom. if its on then your seller lied and you are not rooted. if so fallow the rooting guides that are posted here. if you need ne help just pm me and i will apply my skills the best i can. i want all to be rooted and experience the true right of freedom. lol. fosho. . . .
Partial hope
When I power it on and hold volume down I can get into fastboot mode and here is what I can see on the screen

ok ?. did you buy it rooted so you didnt have to do ne thing?? does it have RAv recovery or cm's recovery??
Thank you rocking_mod I was able to restore my phone. Here is what I did
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
And finally now the phone works again. Enough of action for one day.
Thanks again.

Congrats!
Always great to see when someone bring his mobile back to live
I'm guessing the ROM you downloaded was not compatible with your phone. As a side note, do NOT apply the Rogers update ontheir web site. It will upgrade your SPL to the dreaded perfect version.
I got the same error when I first apply the hofoion108.zip. I happened to press apply again somehow, and it had no errors at the second time. My phone can start with that rom later on.
I need help, i am in same situation as you freedonkey, but i don't know where to get the files you reffer to:
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
The HoFo mod and which recovery image should i use and where to get it ?

ps: I am not sure, but i dont know what model is mine (i am kind of a newbie :/) i think it should be Rogers, but not sure, bought it in Portugal blocked to TMN phone company.
I also "soft-bricked" my Magic when installing a new ROM. I had wrong radio and didn't wipe before trying to install - all I was left was the HTC boot splash.
I was then, after a few days of reading & thinking, able to restore the device! I had bought it used so I had no warranty.
I used ADB to check out if the device was alive or dead. I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata) and flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6. After that I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel. It worked! After that (for a month) I've been playing with CM6 nightlies and RC's.
If you don't want root capablities, just the original ROM, there should be good info on that. But if you do, I would recommend to follow CyanogenMod instructions from their wiki - they're helpful and easy to follow.

Thanks for the help kantiii, i will see what i can doo tonight when i get back home
Hey again Kantii,
I am sorry i am bit newbie, I figure out my phone is still alive sthoughout ADB as u did, but i don't know for sure how to:
1- I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata)
- I actuall wiped it after i turned the phone on with Home+off buton, does that inclued kernel and system wipe ?
2- flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6
- CM = Cyanogen Mod ??? which of these files u recomend to me ? (Both radio and CM5/6 ?)
3- I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel
- Is Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery compatible with any HTC MAgic ???
I am really newbie about all this so I would appreciate all details! :|
thanks a lot for everything so far anyway
Sorry for long time no reply! I had not checked my mailbox!
You should wipe them in fastboot:
1. Turn your phone on by pressing back + power until you are in fastboot & see the skating droids. Another method to do this is turning the phone on by pressing volume down + power and then the back key.
2. Connect the device to your pc (make sure you see FASTBOOT USB on the phone display) and run CMD
3. type "fastboot devices" and check if your phone is plugged in correctly and you see the device ID.
4. Now you can wipe them correctly with fastboot:
4.1 type "fastboot erase [system/cache/userdata/boot/kernel/recovery all separately]" (without brackets etc, they are here to make reading easier)
4.2 Download:radio http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...es/?download=Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17.img
SPL http://briancrook.ca/android/3.22/hboot-1.33.2005.img
recovery http://rapidshare.com/files/387932922/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H-cyan.img4.3. Move the downloaded files to C:\ (and if you want, rename to Radio.img and Hboot.img and Recovery.img) so it is easier to use them. After that type "cd.." in cmd repeatedly until you are in C:\
5. Now you should be able to flash the radio, SPL and recovery images:
5.1 Type "fastboot flash radio Radio.img"
5.2 Type "fastboot flash hboot Hboot.img"
5.3 Type "fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img"
5.4 In each step wait until fastboot says it has finished - if you won't, you have to start everything again or may brick your device.
6. Now in your phone press menu to power down it. Then boot again to fastboot to confirm you flashed correctly:SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005
RADIO-3.22.20.177. Now power down the device again and boot to recovery by pressing home + power.
7.1 In recovery, check that it works correctly (no lag, no crashes, functions work properly)
8. Now you can install CyanogenMod 6 and enjoy fast FroYo on your Magic
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Upgrading_from_CyanogenMod_4.2_to_CyanogenMod_5/6
Good luck and hopefully you can restore your device!

These instructions are only for Magic, but..

Hi my magic 32b is stuck on vodaphone splash screen.no fastbiot or recovery.but chargeable via usb and has blue light too.can u show me steps to softunbrick
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sorry, but 32b is out of my area
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
After that, test if you can get to fastboot or hboot (fastboot: back + power, hboot vol down + power). Then report back and search the forum for further help on restoring your device with new SPL & radio & recovery & ROM
Otherwise, if these won't work you could try JTAG.
Hope this helps,

Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1

I've managed to get into a right pickle with my Vodaphone Magic 32B
I originally flashed the SPL with Engineering SPL 1.33.2005. All was fine and I managed to use the Cyanogenmod without problems.
Last night I was trying to flash the evil hero rom, it kept failing (verification failed). After a few reboots to try reflashing my SPL now displays "Sapphire PVT 32B ENG S-ON H". It said S-OFF previously.
Now when I try and update from SD it gives me an error message saying
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory) E: Can't mount SDCARD:"
I can still fastboot to a recovery rom and use adb but I cannot flash any roms to get the phone up and running.
I have tried 2 different SD cards and reformatted them both. Both of them worked fine before yesterday.
I have tried "adb shell mount /sdcard" and this gives the same error
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Resolved
For some reason my phone has started working again. I booted it up today after leaving the battery out of it for a couple of days and "Sapphire PVT 32B ENG S-ON H" had changed to "Sapphire PVT 32B ENG S-OFF G"
I was just about to phone Vodafone as well!
Flashed back to cyanogen rom. Nice when things fix themselves!
I think I found what might be causing the problem. The command line in adb using "cat /proc/cmdline" gives the following.
board_sapphire.disable_uart3=1 board_sapphire.usb_h2w_sw=1 board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=1 smisize=64 androidboot.baseband=2.22.19.26I androidboot.cid=VODAP001 androidboot.carrier=VODA-UK androidboot.keycaps=qwerty androidboot.mode=recovery_manual androidboot.serialno=<removed> androidboot.bootloader=1.33.2005 no_console_suspend=1 fbcon=rotate:1
I have tried changing the board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=1 to 0. using the fastboot -c option. Sometimes I can see the mmcblk0p1 block, but when I try and mount it just hangs.
Could someone please fastboot to cm recovery image and tell me what it says for when they do adb shell command "cat /proc/cmdline" ?
try fix_permissions already?
I did try the fix permissions option in the cm recovery rom. I tried pretty much every option to try and get it working!
I did not think fix_permissions did anything to the sdcard?
I have tried 5 difference SDcards now and formatted them in a variety of fat32/ext2/ext3/swap formats. None are detected.
When I use the fastboot -c option to enable the sdcards it sometimes detects the mmcblk0p1 block but freezes when trying to mount it.
I managed to get it to mount the scard but using the fastboot command
fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0 boot cm-recovery-1.4.img
This does not work every time. But when I try and apply an update it freezes on "opening update package..."
I did manage to flash another SPL (1.33.2004). But it still has sdcard disabled in commandline..
I have exactly same problem after I flashed 32A radio and recovery on my mt3g. I cannot flash any rom, I can't boot the phone, I can't do anything without sd enabled. Only fastboot is able to access SD but does not allow me to flash anything including SAPPIMG.nbh.
I managed to got the phone back on stock rom...
Here's what I did and found out so far:
The fastboot option - fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0 DOES NOT work on three versions of RA-Recovery image 1.2.0, 1.2.1, 1.2.2.
However, it DOES work on RA-Recovery v1.3.2 and I do too managed to flash SPL to engineer 2005 from SD card. But when I attempt to flash the radio in recovery mode, it will just freeze at opening update package... so I downloaded SAPPIMG.NBH, reverted my phone back to factory ROM. Note: I've tried to flash sappimg.nbh before I flash engineering SPL 2005,
Even though the phone is now back on stock radio, SPL and ROM, the sdcard is still disabled! In fact it is even worse, because on stock SPL, and ROM, I can't root at all without sdcard access. Anyone know how to enable it?
I have amon ra 1.5.1 recovery....
And I am trying to use switchrom option under console(altx). After typing in switchrom command I get an error.
I have an sd card mounting issue with the following message:
"mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed"
Any idea why this may be? And if that file can be added to the sdcard??
-Thanks!

I have exact the same problem as you guys.
You said that "fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0" works (sometime). I've tried few Amon RA recoverys and booted repeatedly but without any success.

You need to change the mainboard to fix it. Otherwise, there's no known way to fix this problem.
This issue was killing me for about a month before I gave up and bought a new phone. This issue was on my Rogers 32a, and I knew that my SD had become unreadable via Recovery and ROM, because of a failure to follow proper instructions when upgrading the radio to from 3.22.20.17 to 6.35.07.20 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
I'm not sure where I went wrong, but I knew I made a mistake when flashing the images in fastboot. I decided that it would be best to start over, and go back to the Engineering SPL. At this point, my SD and bluetooth stopped working.
What I noticed was that my SD card could only be read in fastboot mode, and could even install sappimg.zip/nbh Engineering ROM with Recovery image on a gold card perfectly fine. However, like b1gwest, I was partially able to get the SD to work with the "enable.sdcard=0" override command. Because this would keep crashing, I wasn't able to do anything. In the end I flashed the stock Rogers RUU(Still no SD or Bluetooth)
I noticed that on the SD cards that I put in the phone, there would be large "qxdm_[time stamp].qm" log files being written to the SD cards anytime I tried accessing it in Recovery mode. And if I'm not mistaken, this is a fastboot option on the Hero or 1.76.x.x SPL's? ANYHOW, there was no way for me to fix this without access to the SD Card.
Until now. Lucky for me(maybe for some of you too), I kept my phone.
For ROGERS 32A, possibly for other providers... if you are willing to take the Perfected SPL hit to get your SD card running again, upgrade to the latest Rogers ROM(3.05.631.7).. This gives you 1.76.0010 SPL, and Radio 6.35.10.18.
This will not fix your SD(yet), so you need to go into fastboot mode and type the following
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
This fixed my SD and Bluetooth. Results may vary, but hope this helps anyone having a similar problem.
I'm not responsible for bricking, yadda yadda yadda.. You know the risks already.
Finally
However, on SPL 1.33.0009 it's not working. I get:
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
... INFO[ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY
I think it's because of SPL. Do You know how to do it with this version of SPL?
You will need to upgrade to the new 1.76.xxxx SPL/6.35.xx.xx with your provider, which will also root your phone.
I would suggest you wait until a rooting option is available for the new SPL before you do this, though.
pyee0124, thank's for Your help.
I've upgraded spl and radio as You said (using htc 3.05). enableqdm 0 also worked.
ps. root and other roms aren't as important as fully working phone (with sd card ofcourse).
Same problem with G1.
I guess I'll pull my battery and wait a couple of days for now.
I can't run that fastboot command since I have a 32B Dream
Same issue
I have Vodafone AU 32B, same issue, have tried changing board_sapphire.disable_sdcard using -c option with no success.
Have also tried using different recovery roms upto v1.6.2 with no success.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have the identical problem to the above post. Mt3g, tried different recovery Roms, can't access SD Card, get the same error no matter what I try. Anyone found a fix yet... ? My SPL says Security ON, which I'm sure was off before.
(Vodafone 32B AU also)
I had this problem too. I have just wierdly got around it by going to Apply sdcard:choose zip
I then chose the update.zip and bang everything installed perfectly when trying to install RAv1.1.0H 32A based ROM.
Very strange but at least I got it installed

I have access to fastboot and recovery so far
I have tried many firmwares in this radio as well as 6.xx radio new one. Had no problems so far. I was running a ROM on this radio itself. Then i wished to switch back to cyanogen latest. So i wiped and tried flashing the following
1/ flashed first - defaged firmware
2/ updated cyanogen 15.1 over it
3/ flashed the port of 32A
After this on booting, phone was stuck @ htc boot screen. So i again came back to recovery, and tried flashing again. This time it said a signature fail on defaged firmware file as well as other files in it.
Tried few times and still same issue.
Tried formatting sd card mounting on phone - recovery usb. but then after that it is no more detecting. I tried partitioning fat32, ext2-512mb, swap 32mb, manually through paragon and put again, still memory card not detecting. I get similar errors

I dont know how it went from S-OFF to S-ON. And that is the reason why fastboot was not accepting anything
Then to update recovery i did adb push to /sdcard and then flashed from there. And then i got my recovery updated to 1.6.2. This confirms somewhere phone is able to write to memory card through adb, but i cannot use recovery to flash from it. memory card has no prob neither phone hardware
Still no use, memory card is not detected + cannot flash files.
My current scenario
-- my radio and spl is correct, i have recovery lates 1.6.2
-- phone has no rom now
-- i can access fastboot and recovery
-- my signatures - S-ON so cannot use fastboot to flash anything
-- memory card not detecting, tried 1-2 memory cards. All detecting on pc
didnt you forgot to flash samming.img? BEcause without that, it wont turn off. Try flash again, use a gold card if doesnt work. Download from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/267446145/2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip
hope it helps
I did not forget to flash that, it was not something i wanted. My phone was a completely rooted phone with everything running perfect. I was just reinstalling cyanogen from start.
Regarding goldcard, I couldnot find my sdcard CID, so could not create it.
create a new one. Create gold card from the recovery option. You can coonect your SD card to your computer with the phone in recovery mode, there is a MS Connect menu, select that one. you can get the CID and do the process again.
If i were you i would run HTC update from a SPL edition wich would be able to root and do all over again for safe keeping.
how to create gold card from recovery ? my memory card is anyway not mounting on recovery now
regarding getting cid, on memory card reader i couldnot get cid, maybe my card reader is not worth providing such info
thirdly, i have tried updating using original ruu, it fails in the stage of update where it says rebooting into bootloader.
I tried the same in fastboot mode, normal mode and recovery. Nothing works, except 1 change that in fastboot mode, it turns the phone to stuck at the fastboot screen and i have to pull out battery.
Any other options ?
before starting the phone, you press Power+Home, and you'll have the custom recovery option right?
There is a option called: "USB MS-Toggle" activate it , From that option you can get a CID without any problem and recover everything
have you tried a G1 method?

before starting the phone, you press Power+Home, and you'll have the custom recovery option right?

Just as we do any flashing. put to sd card and flashed through recovery in this order(PLZ READ MY FIRST POST COMPLETELY)
1. defaged firmware
2. cyanogen latest update over it (without rebooting)
3. 32A port
what did you had before as radio ? Hboot? Etc
Have you tried to download a oficially signed from HTC Hboot and in fastboot flashing it ?
try the following to see if works.
1)Link your Phone to your computer, run it in fastboot mode.
2)Run a HTC update (choose anyone)
3)Click next until the update confirmation part.
4) run %temp% and you'll find Rom.zip and rom1.zip , copy to a folder and unzipit. Close the update app.
5) collect the following files:
userdata.img
system*.img
Splashe*.nb0
recovery.img
radio.img
hboot*.nb0
boot.img
(The ons with * are the version of the following update you are applying)
6) Zip to a samppimg.zip, put on the SD card and enter in HBoot mode (Volume down+power)
PS: i dont know if works, and it might become worst but try at your own risk. Never passed throught that situation. Last optiion read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655097 and follow the JTAG Hack option. I Dont know any other way.
please post here exacly what you have done:

Lets hope to try to see what we can do.

Boot issue - fails to boot (this isnt a typical FTB!)

Since the last time I posted on the g1 was so long ago, I am starting a new thread instead of reviving the dead.
History: Phone was running CM, deathspl, and working great. Had on charge, then returned to find the phone sitting stuck on the boot screen.
Im able to enter fastboot, but not recovery. Ive tried flashing various roms from SD card, most of which will fail (including rc29) to install due to various errors. Using Nandroid Recovery GUI I have tried restoring several backups that I *know* previously worked, and are from this particular phone. The nandroid backups install successfully.
Even after installing a backup, the phone still hangs at the initial splash logo. SOMETIMES it will go into a boot loop where it hangs at the splash for a few seconds, then reboots. Specifically, ive only seen the bootloop if I restart the phone from fastboot, never just by powering on the phone. Yes, I am sure I have left the phone on long enough to boot (1 hour)...
It seems there are only a few posibilities.
1) Animated / other bootscreen corruption. The animation never starts, only the initial splash. Ive tried reflashing the splash1. Is there something else I should flash? Could the initial splash somehow be corrupt?
2) Could the SPL somehow be corrupt? I have not and do not know off hand how to change it from within fastboot. RC29 WILL NOT install. It reports a bootloader version error.
3) Could there be a hardware or memory type failure? I cant imagine I woud be able to flash from fastboot if that were the case....?

The goldcard idea was suggested on the last thread, but that doesnt seem like it would make a difference since I can restore the nandroid. I also do not have any convenient way that I know of to make a goldcard...
Any other ideas?

Use fastboot to flash a new recovery, then use that to flash a new system image.
Me too..
I used an app called NANDROID Recovery GUI. Copied fastboot.exe and AdbWinApi.dll into a folder named gui (folder name not important). In the same folder I dropped all the files inside the NANDROID Recovery Gui.zip along with the contents of my nandroid back-up from the sd card from the phone along with the recovery image. Double click NANDROID_Recovery_GUI and let it load. Mine came up with all but one green. Boot.img, System.img, data.img and scripts were found. Recovery image wasnt found, even after I dropped recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img into the same folder. So I selected the option RESTORE ALL BUT RECOVERY, and clicked RUN RESTORE. A dos window popped-up, things got written, dots and more dots, my phone automagically reboot and all is well. I believe I somehow deleted my recovery image from my sd card. Anyways best of luck to you.

[Q] Killed my phone somehow. I can get to recovery but...

My phone wont boot. just stays at the g2 screen. I can get in to CW recovery 3.0.2.4 but i get E:/Can't mount /cache/recovery errors. I went and tried to restore a backup but it fails at Formating the system dir. I even tried to just flash a CM nightly and still fails at that point.
Looks like i just need to reinstall CW recovery. But I haven't been able to find any help. all the search i've found says to download from market then install.
Btw this started after doing a battery pull when my phone locked trying to install Plants Vs. Zombies

Is there a way I can push and install CW via ADB?
Thanks for your help.
I'm by no means experienced with this stuff but since you have the engineering hboot you can try flashing with fastboot.
Works like ADB, but not quite the same.
Grab the fastboot binary from here: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
Then throw it in the same folder as adb.

The above link will help explain how it works.
If you can get CWM in recovery.img form you can easily flash it.
The CWM image link a little further down in this section might help with that:

I'm afraid you may have a device with a hardware defect: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039504
