Root G1, can't read SD card. - G1 General

Sorry if this is a completely noob question, but I cannot find any concise information on this topic.
I received and unlocked G1, and I know the unlock code. The phone was recently upgraded to DRC83 , and 1.6.
I then tried to gain root access using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
But after "downgrading" to RC29, and powering on the phone, it prompts me to enter my Gmail account, and I can no longer access the SD card through my
computer's usb. It shows the drive, but does not open in.
Do I need to get an microSD reader to put the next files on the card?

can't get the xda to load from sd to upgrade to WM2003

hello,
i'm using the xdatools to put the nk file on the SD card, but when i hard reset my xda, i get into bootloader 5.22 mode, it says "gsm ok", and when i press the action button i get into a test menu.
How can i load the nk file from my sd card? please help.
thanks guys.
Did you place the ROM on the SD card by browsing to your device (...) or using the drop down and choosing your SD reader or XDA SD slot?
I had the same problem until I used the drop down... if you browse to your card, XDA tools will not create a bootable SD.
i used directy dropping down the box to SD
When you use the drop down menu on the destination there should be a drive letter next to your card eg: F: 59.60M USB sd reader or similar, choose that and it should work.
do we soft reset or hard reset
well after loading nk.nbf file
do we soft reset or hard reset to get into bootloader.
also,
the drive letter in destination folder will come if u use card reader,
but if in expansion slot than it does not give the drive letter.
Hello
I did hard reset .
I am having this same problem...
I download to the SD card through the cradle, using the phone's expansion slot. I do a SOFT RESET, to get the bootloader, and all I get is a GSM OK message. If I hit the action button, I then get into the test menu.
Hello
Means you have no nb.1 on your SD card .
as per the instructions I've been following that have been listed in detail here on this site as well as the att siemens support forums, you are supposed to copy the nk.nbf file and use that with the OS Image tool...is this incorrect?
OSImage
I just installed new ROM from new ROM Kitchen .
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
1) Get the file on your desktop ( download or ...I do not care)
2) Open OSInage
3) Source  Brows to your file
4) Destination  your SD card (where is it :?: -on your phone
or on the SD card reader)
5) Copy the file to SD card (takes 20 seconds)
6) Remove the XDA from the cradle and soft reset with power button held in.
7) When it says press action to download, push the big button between dial and hangup.
8) Hard reset.
9) Injoy the rest of your day
No way getting SD-Card recognized
Hello,
i have the same problem, the ROM (Made with xda-tools or XDArit) on sd-card is not recognized to download when i boot into bootloader!
I found no way to get this running.
Any ideas?
read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3274
most likely, your wallaby bootloader is not 5.15. Anything above 5.15 won't work. I could downgrade from 5.17 and 5.22, but not from 6.22
still awaiting for some help to down grade 6.22. Nobody seems to care. THis forum has become "too" big that it is not as effective as before ...
People tend to just "shout" and ask before digging deep enough...

I'm in the same situation - I have v6.22 on T-Mobile 4.01.00ENG and can't do anything, even with an SD card!
Even the BootLoader downgrade tool with XDATools doesn't work.
Any help with this would be appreciated by many other users in the same situation.
The downgrade batch file in XDA-Tools doesn't work for a lot of people (didn't work for me either). However the wallaby patch should work. Otherwise, use XDARit to downgrade the bootloader using the .nb0 file that comes with the downgrade batch in XDA-Tools.
You write the wallaby patch onto the SD card using XDARit, go into the bootloader and enter diagnostics. Then take the SD card out, write bootloader 5.15 onto the card using the bootloader option in XDARit, and place the SD card back into the device. Then from the patched diagnostics screen select Restore SD and it will recognize a bootloader update. I'd recommend saving your original bootloader from the diagnostics first, but that wouldn't work for me for some reason.
i had a 5.17 boot loader that i downgraded to 5.15 via OS image tools, i also downloaded a rom file from the Kitchen & wrote it on SD but i still can't load from SD & i only get the test phase thing

Try using XDRit instead of XDA-Tools (use the older version of XDRit instead of the newer version). I'm not sure what you mean by "test phase", but maybe your bootloader screwed over during the update? If so you may need to rectify that first, but that's definately beyond me. If you burn the image correctly onto the card it should pick up automatically as soon as you enter the bootloader with 5.15. If you don't burn it correctly then it won't be picked up.
I'm just throwing in my 2c because I've made all this stuff work with a 5.15 downgrade. There's a possibility the thing simply doesn't like your card too, so try a different 64MB SD.
well i do have a 256 mb card & as far as i can tell the downgrade worked fine, now to use the xdarit files to i need to have the SD reader or i can do it the same way i do in XDAtools which is directly into the card through Active Sync

AUSSIE HELP wanted for XDA ROM upgrade

Hi,
I posted earlier http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6418, and I have played around some more with the XDA with no success. I have now bought a 64MB SD card and am unsure as to how the ROM image on my PC gets onto the SD card. This is how I have been doing it:
1) Insert SD card into XDA
2) Place XDA into cradle
3) XDA then ActiveSync’s to the PC
4) Run OSImageTool.exe and select the following –
a. Source: “C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Desktop\orig.nb1”
b. Destination: “XDA SD card slot – unknown size”
5) Then I press “copy” and I see the progress bar go across to 100%. After this appears to finish, the program just sits there not telling me it’s finished. I assume that it’s all okay and I then close the program
6) Take XDA off cradle and hold power button down whilst doing a warm-reset
7) The following appears: “Wallaby Bootloader v6.22 – GSM OK” – nothing else happens, and from what I have read it is supposed to ask if I want to perform a ROM upgrade. However, I can get into the diagnostic and flash tools by pressing the action button etc, but nothing is in there to upgrade the ROM.
Does the fact the OSImageTool destination says “XDA SD card slot – unknown size” matter? I’m assuming not because when I have transferred the ROM using the above steps, the XDA asks if I want to format the card; meaning that the transfer worked okay. Do I have to have an SD card reader/writer on my PC to get the ROM onto the SD card?
I have read a little about a Bootloader patch – do I need to run this, and how do I get it onto the XDA – using the same method?
What I would really appreciate is to physically speak to someone in Australia who has done this before who can spend 10 minutes on the phone with me. I guess I just need a number to call, and you could PM me or MSN me ([email protected]) so I can contact you or give you my number (whatever you’re comfortable with). I would be very appreciative of any help that can fix this, as all I want to do is get my three-day old XDA working again!
Any other comments and help in relation to solving this hair-challenging issue would be great!
Thanks,
Paul…
Hi mate, it looks like you need to patch the bootloader, read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5923&highlight=patch+bootloader
This is the only guide that works for patching the bootloader (I tried them all before finding the right one) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3274
Yes, you do need an SD card reader/writer, if you search around you should be able to get a cheap one. If you read that guide you will be able to upgrade from SD card/bootloader.
help
hi! i downloaded the windows mobile for tmobile in yorch.net twice now, whenever i EXTRACT the file this always comes out "T-mobileROM40021\NK.nbf could not be extracted correctly!".
Need help.. do you have any suggestions on some alternative sites so i can download it again?

question about dumping on mini sd card

i unlocked my phone and followed all the directions until the dump...mistakenly i thought i could dump the file from the mda instead of using a card reader...now my card cannot be read by the mda, but i can restore everything through the card when i press the camera button as i plug in the usb cord...so i know the card still works...so i guess my question is if i dump the file else where will my card be free of memory and will the security files still be intact; so i can use my mini sd card for other things...much help is appreciated
:edited: forgive my stupidity, but i was doing this last night as i was tired multitasking other things...i assume the answer to my question is to dump the file with the ntrw.exe, and my sd card should be free of use; as well as being able to be seen on my mda...please correct me if i am wrong...i am concerned because if my whole mini sd card is wiped out in the process of coping the rom from the phone to the sd card, then there is a posibility that the security files (hence secure digital) might be erased as well...this might result in why i can't see my card on the mda anymore...as i have learned that if your card's sectioned area for the security stuff is corrupted or erased in anyway, the card will not function correctly anymore...please help me out so i can test out the new roms with you guys :!:
the answers...
well sometimes you have to look for what you need instead of others doing it for you, but am i greatful just the same...for those with the same problem i have a solution...you do not need a card reader...i got my information from:
http://www.spv-developers.com/forum/archive/index.php?t-226.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43399
i got my sd card working again without the use of a sd card reader...i downloaded psdread and psdwrite ...next i opened a cmd window with the directory of the files...i followed another cmd "psdread -1 0 0xc0200 sd image" instead of using koniosis' cmd...with this cmd i found in the first forum above, you are able to read the file directly from the device while connected through active sync...then i went on to follow koniosis' instructions and compressed the image with winrar...next i used a hex editor to make a file 10k of 0x00...and finally i used the cmd "psdwrite -1 file.bin", and it copied to the device...i took out the card and placed it back, and the device was able to recognize and format my sd card...thanks for the guide...
to think that i figured all that out by myself (with help of course)...i have not done this kind of stuff before, so i am very proud of myself

[Q] Desire hd gold card?

I have a problem with my mobile phone. It was functioning normally. But I want to hot restart my phone.By the way It was rooted and Runnymix3d was loaded. After that It started to stick on android with a black screen under this writing.I thought that I made a mistake. And I downloaded a latest stock rom on internet and I put it in my sd card.I opened the phone in bootloader menu.I click on wipe and then Install android zip.It started to install the android. After that I was shocked because It says CID incorrect.I made a search on internet.Find a method to create a gold card.My phone's usb was not functioning before this happens thats why I wanted to install stock rom via sd card.I couldn't open my phone so I coulnd't connect it to pc to make a gold card.I went to a shopping center and put my sd card into a tablet to get cid serial. Then I came home I made a gold card. But here is the question.Gold card is ready I guessWill I put stock rom for world wide in gold card?Actually I don't know what to doI made a gold card but there is no file in my gold card I don't understand why.Gold card tool says E:/Your sd is a gold card now.But I am not sure about it.My phone bought from Germany Vodafone(branded).Htc support servise says We dont have a rom we use over air (OTA) to install devices. What will I do now?I have a sd card.Should I put WWE rom in this gold card or in another card?I didn't make my gold card by the help of my mobile.I copied the cid number from a device in a shopping center, because I can not open phone and I coulnd't download gold card helper to my device. Will it be a problem?
Go to CWM and wipe all data.
In Hboot make a Factory Reset.
Download this Stock Rom from here
Run the RUU but don't do anything after you run it.
Keep it running and browse to your temp folder (c:\users\%usrename%\appdata\local\temp\)
search for "rom.zip" . Copy this file to the index of your sd card and rename it exactly to PD98IMG.img .
Put your sd card in your phone.
With your phone turned off, go to Hboot (hold Volume Down + Power)
Don't do anything, the ROM will be flashed automatically.
Reboot
Thank you for your helps Gold card method worked well.If you have the same problem you don't have to use the same device to get CID serial. You can use any device you want.It worked for me.By the way When I started in bootloader,It was s-on mode.Thats interesting everthing went correct and I can use my phone now It is better than the old one.Old version was runnymix3d.Usb connection was not working It is working now.Radio was not working It works now.HTC syn was not working It is working now.Using custom roms is nonsense for me.Most of them are not prepared well.If you have CID INCORRECT problem, you must use gold card method. On youtube there is a video about preparing a gold card.I watched it It is really simple. You can do the same thing in video on youtube.HxE editor method is old. sdk tool method is complex. There is a simple method by the help of Gold Card Tool 0.0.7.It prepares everthing for you.
Not all custom ROMs are "nonsense". You just have to read the thread of the developer.
Sometimes the ROM is in alpha or beta states which mean that they're still under testing.
A lot of custom ROMs out there work perfectly.

Can I Root And Then Reset The Reader...

Can I root the Simple Touch and get it setup for my friend and then deliver it to him freshly reset and ready for him?
I guess I'm really asking do you need to set up the Nook first before you can root ect.?
I'm asking because I've been tasked with setting up a Nook, root install books ect, for someone who will then give it as a gift.
Will it still be possible for them to set it up with there B&N account ect after I root it or will we need to wait for them to log in for the first time before I can root it?
One of the more experienced people can correct me if I am wrong, but I think you should be able to do this using Nook Manager. You would have to prepare the SD card (make sure it is at least 2GB) before ever turning on the Nook. Insert the SD card and power on the Nook (perhaps while attaching the charger at the same time). Unless I miss my guess, it will boot from the SD card and you can then follow the Nook Manager prompts to first backup and then root the Nook. I believe this procedure would allow you to root the Nook without ever registering it.
If this does not work, there is a way to boot the Nook without registering it. I don't have the link to this at the moment but you should be able to find the procedure with a simple internet search.
If you do this, it is likely the end user will have to run registration app manually as after it is rooted, it probably will not run automatically.
12-12-2013 edit:
Here is the link to how to boot a NST or NSTG without registering it. nook touch skip registration
