Viewing low resolution images on vga screen - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hopefully this is an easy question but ive tried googling and wasnt successful.
Having a diamond its obviously a vga screen but I still recieve a lot of mms' from old nokias so once ive downloaded the contents its a pathetic little square in the center of my screen.
Ive tried saving image to phone and using album but same thing. In fact its bigger in the album preview lol
Can someone advise a setting or an application that will help here,
Many thanks
Darren

hmmm...... no comment......
The VAST MAJORITY of MMS' that are sent around between people are created for the smaller screens.
A perfect example ive googled is attached below, how on earth can this be read on our diamond screens, its ridiculously small???

Zoom in into picture by double taping on it or using D-PAD

Thanks Radical. But I have tried this, it doesn't give the option that we get in this viewer.. It's Photo contacts is very good and it's like Diamond one, but not the photo viewer. I am really looking for the one in the video.. It's really awesome, you can use the finger scrolling from the main screen to swipe thru the photos.
It is most likely that your device won't support it anyway... TouchFlo 3D is very graphics intensive...

Try EyePhoto, it has pretty neat thumb sliding for viewing capabilities.

there should be a qvga versin available.

Thanks to all the developers and contributors for the lovely softwares.. Almost all the softwares worked in my phone & I love them.. But still none of the Picture viewer softwares gave me the function that I have seen in the video.. I will keep trying it.. I am pretty sure that someone will come up with this.. I will wait... again I appreciate your help

Actually i did a test like that for pictures first, but it isnt very usable.
I think that feature in Daimond is just to show, not really to use regularly. I prefer the Camera album to view pictures because you can see all the photos in a list and then choose from one.
It can easily be done in flash but the finger motion effects have a problem with the current 'players', if you press the screen and dont release it for a second only, it pops up the "about flash" window.
Still, if you use simple buttons instead of finger motions, like I did for my flash contact list, all you need is a ouside program to list all the images in \storage card\my documents\my pictures (or whererver) to a xml or txt file, then the flash would read all the picture names as variables and present them in that kind of slideshow (or even better animations, like 3d cubes turning or fade-ins) . Do remenber that the 'photo turn 3d effect' would slow things down.
So, depending on the speed of the pocket pc model it would be slow, it isnt very slow on my dual because it has 400 mhz, but there are a lot of models out there with 200mhz...
Also, for some reason, the flash lite engine works faster but has more bugs reading images than the flash 7 engine. :/
And then it comes back to the today plugin, the only good current one is from the Throttle author but it only has one hardcoded size, he is doing a better one, and THAT one I cant wait for... it sounds as good as melted cheese!
That's exactly what I am looking at.

IT's wonderful work twolf, and that is exactly what I am looking at... Will it be possible to post a cab file of the one in the video.. So that I can test and use it on my phone.. I have seen your website and is pretty impressive.. Will it be possible to share the work that you have done here.. So that all of us can enjoy it..
Thats not dependant of me, just of the trotthle author, sorry, like I said I gave that to him.
But after he releases his new plugin, I'll be sure to make a lot of flash goodies for everyone, always releasing the sourcode, because, as I said, I'm a iilustrator, not a programmer, and Im sure others can do so much more.
thanks Twolf

Thanks Twolf.. I tried this before and I am trying the Tempus V13 now..It works perfect, but the till still skips by 1 sec every 2 secs and becomes very slow during skip.. And also takes lots of memory around 3-4 MB on my HTC Touch... Which is a lot for my phone.. . is there is a work going to reduce this... I can't wait !!! for Throttle author to release new version.. ..Tempting
Actually the skipping is good, it does skip sometimes but thats my way of making sure the time is always correct. Otherwise the minutes could change before the seconds reached 59.
The slowness is really because of the 200mhz of the touch, sorry...
As for memory, thats flash...
Maybe in the next version of throttle since the weather and clock are separated and in flash lite, they may become faster, time and tests will tell.
Thank you Twolf
Thanks Twolf.. This is a great application and I am currently trying Throttle launcher works great on my Touch.. Thanks for all you guys work.. Fantastic... Hope to see more from you.. thank you..

Contact Pictures

Which image size do you use for the pictures of a contact ?
I tried almost every combination but the picture of a contact/people in the Touch Flo 3d still remains of poor quality .

I was about to start a thread about this too. The biggest pain is that there is no sample picture you can use to make your own pictures the same size. Does anyone know the answer?

After some research I found it. The resolution is 256x256. I use a PNG, but jpg works as well. I found out by looking at one of the avatars you can use when you have no picture of your own. Now the contacts picture looks perfect

Take a pic of the person, crop the wanted part and downsize it?
Yes,
that's what I will do.
I will replace all of my contact photo's in Outlook that way.

Ok I tried it . The result is better but still far from perfect.
Does someone has another idea ?
I´ve heard, but not tested, that you could use S2V (Slide to view) to add contacts´ picture without downsizing to low resolution.
If anyone tries it and works, tell us here.
Could someone post how contact picutes look like on the HD so we can see whats you mean when you say its bad quality...
Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks HelderJr I tried 2SV and that worked perfectly.
There is a setting when taking pictures with your phones camera to take contact pictures.. also for some strange reason when you use the pictures and videos program to add a photo in your library as a contact image the quality looks like crap. What looks best to me on the touch pro is open the Album program and add an image to a contact from inside the program. The contact picture quality looks much better.
Now this could turn out different on the Touch HD, but it works like this on my Touch Pro.
The thing that I dont like with TouchFlo 3D Photo Contact ... There is no standard "matrix" view of the photo contacts, for example 5 x n number of photos.
With TouchFlo 3D, we need to scroll to the correct photo and take action.
It is nice to see that 3D animation, but it is better to have an option for the user interface like the old HTC HOME.
Correction
2SV does the job. But !!!!!!!!!
Touch Flo 3d became extremely slow especially when reaching the tab "PEOPLE" and even crash down . Has to perform a soft reset and then 2SV doen't seem to work anymore.
So back to first question .
recorrection
UTVOL has it right.
Using the album(program) to assign a picture to a contact does almost the job.
Picture quality in tab "People" is largely improved but still not perfect.

Add photos from Album
Hi, try to add photos to your contacts from Album application
the difference is tremendous ... see samples:
1. foto used in both tries
2. set in outlook and synced via activesync
3. viewed with touch hd fotoviewer and saved to contact
so are you saying we should use 446 x 446 res?

256x256 pix. but you need to set it from the phone. Copy the picture to device, open it and set to contact. Outlook will blurr it.

Spare Original Wallpaper pic file copy for me?

After a strange sync session all my file in phone memory disappeared, including all my notes.
My system is fine, and the nothing was important on the note. However I do miss the included rainbow colored bubbles for my wallpaper. Call me old fashioned but I just like the ones included with the phone.

Touchflo Wallpaper Comes Out Blurry

Hi all,
I decided to set a custom wallpaper today on my HTC Touch HD and found one
that was 800x480 so it would fit perfectly on the screen. When I look at the
picture through the file explorer, it looks sharp and exactly what it looked like
on my PC, but when I set it as a wallpaper using the Settings tab
in Touchflo3D, it comes out very blurry. It's almost a low-res version of the
original image.
Is there any way to fix this problem.
Thank you
EDIT:
I opend another thread in the HD Touch sesction of the forum as I thought
I'd get more replies here. Could a moderator please remove my other thread

Not sure if this is related. I had a similar problem with my contacts images.
If I assigned contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on my phone were low-res.
But if I assigned contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts they became hi-res thumbnails.
Were do you have your wallpaper saved?
I have my pictures saved in the Pictures Folders in the My Documents folder.
I don't understand why this would happen, just because it's stored in
internal memory.
Never-the-less I shall try what you said and see whether it works.
Just to make sure 800x480 is the correct resolution for wallpapers on the
HTC Touch HD isn't it?
Thanks for your help Fallen Spartan

Your problem is slightly different Spartan, If you synch with Outlook it will always down res your contact images. The trick is to add them via the people tab in manila. That keeps them high res.

Unfortunately Da11y, yours is a known issue right now where background images are converted to a lower resolution, allegedly to save on processing power! So a large image doesn't have to be rendered every time. I could see they woul;d put a cap on the image size, but not limiting it to less than the screens resolution! There is a thread about this somewhere. I'll try to dig it out.
Cheers ClownShoes
I find it kinda of silly that this restriction is in place. The Touch HD has got an
amazing screen and not being able to set wallpapers in the normal high-res
defies the point.
I hate having low-res wallpapers so at the time being have no option but to use
the default wallpaper

To be honest I sort of thought this and I had corrected my problem beforehand. Just wasn't sure if Da11y's problem was related and I knew someone like yourself would correct me anyhow
Im confused about this very same thing, it somehow converts the image to lower resolution (dpi). Isnt there some registry entry that can be manipulated to disable this "feature"?
The phone has more then enough power to render a wallpaper, why else call it HD if it isnt even able to render a simple wallpaper properly...
I know what you mean 0verseer. This problem is very annoying as all my
high-res wallpapers are coming out proper sh*t on my Touch HD when set

I tried what you said as well Fallen Spartan but it made no difference.
You would think HTC would provide an option to enable/disable high-res

As much as I love my Touch HD, there's so many little things that really
p*ss me off with it.
This is just one of the few. Hopefully someone comes up with a reg hack
or something that will disable wallpapers from turning low-res.
I found that link guys http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447785&highlight=wallpaper+lo+res
It appears it's a touchflo issue and a limitation of the way the graphics engine works.

Why are MMS pic's displayed so small?

I looked around and all I could find on this subject was a couple threads on the sending limit of MMS so I figured it is safe to start a thread on this somewhat related issue.
I am used to my TyTN II (I've had it for years) so when I got the HD2 on the 24th I was really disappointed when I got my first MMS pictures.... They are so tiny I can't hardly see them...
Even when I open them they are extremely small.... Half the size of what would display on my TyTN II and way to small to enjoy.
Is there a registry setting anywhere that controls the display size of the MMS pictures? They currently open to no larger then 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch.
If I have the same pictures sent to my TyTN II they are almost full screen so I am assuming it's a setting.....
Thanks
i think, the different is made by the display resolution.
the kaiser has got qvga, 240x320, the hd2 wvga, 480x800.
so imagine:someone sends an mms with resolution auf 200x220
its even not a quarter of hd2, but nearly fullscreen on kaiser.

Go to the Themes & Apps section in the stickies.

I appreciate the reply and I understand where your coming from...it makes sense but all the pictures come in that 1/4 by 1/4 inch size no matter what size they were taken in.... Even a 3 meg pic taken comes in my HD2 at 1/4 by 1/4 and when opened is only slightly larger...
There has to be a setting that is making all picture come in the very same size.
Thank you.
maybe i understand you wrong...
but afaik mms are resized before sending, dont they?

I had the same issue. Solved with this.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620277
Fixed it. For some reason the UserAgent in the registry was set to a Touch Pro 2 and as O2-UK don't supply that phone they were sending the MMS photos at small resolution. I changed it to an N95.
HK Local Machine\Software\Jataayu\MMS\SP
UAProfile = http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NN95-1r100.xml
UserAgent = NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
mms fixed
Thanks for this info Leonardo. I can now finally see mms messages without a magnifier.
How exactly does one edit those registries? do you have to use a specific program other then ActiveSync?
You will need a registry editor. I prefer Resco Reg Editor but there are other variations around - some are free. If you are going to try for the first time make sure you back-up your device first with PIM Back Up and make sure you follow the instructions to the letter (capitalize when it shows, space when it shows, etc.). I have never had a problem and have carried out a few dozen "reg tweaks" now, but there is always a first time!! Good Luck
ok that didn't seem to work, but now I can't send SMS. do i need to click on the box that says"set as default keys value"?
I should have written down the original settings. Agh!!! how can I get those back?
I guess you didn't back up first. The TMOUS settings must be different to other roms. I am still a novice myself so I would advise you to try to find the original settings from another TMOUS user. Sorry I can't be of better assistance.
