Hello,
does anyone know if it is possible to attach an USB<-> RS232 cable to the newer HTC Devices, since they don't have RS232 anymore (i guess)?
What I want to do is to connect some kind of blackbox to Prophet, Atom or Wizzard. But this Blackbox only has an RS232 Connector (12 Volts).
Is it possible (hardware) and is there a driver for the RS232<->USB in Windows Mobile 5 or do I need to write my own driver?
Thank you
hi
I hope u've found a solution to that probleme.
I'm really very sad that nobody has answered to this subject, is this to mean that this is a stupid question or that nobody uses PDAs for good purposes.
Well, I try to connect my PDA to a total station (a surveying machine) that has only an RS232 port.
Can u help me to find how.
Thanx
without know much about usb to rs232 convertere then i would suspect they would require usb host ablity on the pda side which non of the htc ones i know of do :S
I think Rudegar is right, a usb to RS232 adapter requires a device with USB host. Remeber I discussed this at the GPS World site a couple of years ago, when I got my Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard).
Couldn't the problem be solved with a Bluetooth -> RS232 dongle?
For instance: http://serialio.com/products/adaptors/BlueSnapXP.php
Here is a list of manufacturers: http://www.thewirelessdirectory.com/Bluetooth-Product/Serial Port Adapters.htm
(I have no experience with these devices; some can draw power from the serial port, others have their own battery, again others have their own powersupply and need to be plugged in)

Looking at http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=462 it says "Serial: RS-232 , 115200bit/s" But where would this plug in? Is there a special cable for the USB / Audio port that allows RS232 instead of USB?
Also on eBay you can get a car kit with built in GPS http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HTC-TyTN-Powe...emZ150099357396QQcategoryZ75447QQcmdZViewItem if this is through a physical (not bluetooth) connection there must be a serial port.
Anyone tried this?
Thanks

Hi Folks,
Just wondering... I'm trying to get a little application to work on Hermes PDA and I need to connect a Serial device which has a DB9 RS232 connector...
I know there's a Serial port 'inside' the USB connection on the Hermes, I was wondering if anyone knows of a pinout etc. to enable me to build an adapter to plug in the bottom of the PDA which will then allow me to connect my DB9 RS232 device?
Any help gratefully received!...
Regards,
Rob.
no serial ?????
Hi FactionOne,
there's no serial port on on USB connector .
It's only USB-device port, mixed with audio signals on this port.
Bootloader got also support for USB device port.
So it's possible for the host to emulate serial support. That's all!
At least so far as i know

I need to know if it is possible to use the micro usb connector on the P3600 as a serial port.
Suppose I have a device that can feed a serial stream and I want to use TomTom to show a moving map of the gps data I submit to the P3600, would that be possible?
If not, are there any other Mobile devices that have a serial port through their (micro) usb connector?
Thanks in advance!
I purchased one USB->Serial converter but i can't get it to work with the HD.
Does anyone have any success on either a bluetooth serial dongle, or a USB->Serial dongle which works with the HD?
I want to use it as a serial console for networking equipment, and also as a data logger for some other device.
cheers
