Hi all,
I own an G1 which is currently running JACxRom-1.4r3. I've made a nandroid backup and then upgraded to JACxRom-1.5r4.
Before that I hoped, that I can restore my sms, settings and so on with nandroid.
But after trying, I realized that a full nandroid restore will also restore the old custom rom.
(Which it does perfectly , but unfortunately this is not what I need right now..)
Therefore I wanted to ask, if I there's a way to restore selectively with nandroid?
My idea was to only restore the data-, cache- and userdata-img files (from nandroid) via fastboot,
hoping that this would leave the freshly installed rom intact. Is this possible?
Cheers, Kleo
Not in recovery but if you go into your sd card..
Nandroid >
then it should have 2 folders with letters not forming any words.
The first 1 on the left is the last back up and the next one on the right is the older nandroid.
For example.
I was running Cyans rom.
Nandroid.
Wipe and flash to soul life.
Nandroid.
On the sd card of mine it will have two folders
The first one is Soul life
and the second one is Cyan.
But I have had trouble after doing this, Nandroid couldn't be preformed but all you do to fix that is remove the nandroid folder off your sd card/place it on your desktop so when you do a nandroid it will create a new folder that's not buggy.

What would you guys leave on the SD card if you are selling your Hero to somewant who wants it to remain rooted?
I want to restore to my nandroid, which is the Stock Sprint ROM (after getting root of course). Should i then Restore my nandroid backup to factory setting and Nandroid that then put fresh 1.1 on so that way all of my numbers and data are cleared but he still has root.
I also want to format the SD but I know the Nandroid and Recovery Img are there so should i just leave those?
I would format the SD completely, leave nothing. Tell them to make a nandroid backup and such.
At least leave the wallpapers.
yea i formatted the SD and did a Nandroid backup at the initial boot up screen after a Wipe. I am going to install Fresh 1.1 for him though.
I moved my nandroid files onto my PC and moved back to the phone and now I can't restore my nandroid backup flashing from the recovery screen, what the heck am I doing wrong
can I just adb push the backup?
Chad
make sure the path to your backup is correct then try re flashing the recovery image. either that or your backup got corrupted when you copied it. this has happened to me a few times..

Did you copy the Nandroid folder into the SD root? I've copied the Nandroid folder to the computer plenty of times and transfered back over to the phone with no problems.
Now, I haven't cared too much about Nandroid backups since nothing is too important for me to save, and I'm running a different ROM almost every day... But what do Nandroid backups backup ? Just the ROM? ROM and data + Kernel ? And If I do a full wipe and I have a Nandroid backup, do I have to Flash the ROM first, then flash the Nandroid over it? Or can I just full wipe and flash the nandroid?
Nandroid isn't something I use a lot (or at all), so this is kinda odd to me.
A nandroid backup is essentially an image of your entire phone. The entire OS, phonebook, messages, settings...everything.
Awesome, so I can just flash the nandroid right after a full wipe, correct?
Yep, absolutely. Just don't forget that only CWM 3.0.0.6 can flash and restore anything. The other versions are limited to Froyo or Gingerbread, not both.
Yeah I know, I flashed 3.0.0.6 the second i saw it did both ROMs, I haven't had a problem since ^_^ But thanks !
+2 to your Thanks Meter
Glad you got it worked out.
Well, I get to join the ranks of the stupid. Ah well.
The objective: To "Re-build" a nandroid backup.
The cause: I wanted to use the new Netflix app, so I nandroided my Evil D 0.32 DHD ROM, downloaded Virtuous Fusion, went into recovery, and like the instructions said, wiped everything. In my tired state, I even did the SD card. Once done, I began to try to flash the new ROM, but could not find the zip. Cursing like a drunken sailor for forgetting to copy the zip file, I mounted the SD Card and my horror grew as I saw it was blank. Wiped.
Since then: I swapped my card with a spare, flashed a ROM, and began a recovery on the card. I got all 5 nandroids from the card back (at least I think I did)... but...
The issue: Each of the folder I recovered has 6 files inside: .android_secure, boot, cache, data, nandroid, recovery, and system. I rebooted into recovery, and tryto flash one. OFC, since they are no longer zips, it failed.
So I zipped one, and it fails as well. No error message just:
CWM Recovery .0.2.4
--Installing /sdcard/Nand1.zip
Finding Update Package
Opening update package
Installing Update
Installation aborted.
Root with gfree and eng hboot.
Ideas?
Just a quick bump and a status update...
Not sure why I was trying to flash backup when I needed to restore...
Anyways, I used the correct menu, restored a backup...
Good news is that 2 of the 5 backups restored no issue. Of the 3 dead ones, 1 was a stock backup, so I don't care about it. However, one of the other 2 is what I needed. (Meaning, the 2 that restored were old, and of the three ones that would not for MD5 issues, one I needed.)
So the question changes.
The 5 nandroids: 1 was stock, 4 were the same ROM, just taken at different points in time.
The reason 2 of them won't restore is failed MD5, which just means 1 byte (or more) has changed.
From what I know, the 6 files - .android_secure, boot, cache, data, nandroid, recovery, and system - all point to certain parts of the phone.
.android_secure - has to do with market from what I know.
cache - won't kill the phone if this is corrupt, cache will just rebuild.
data - the all important file. Your personal data is stored here. Apps, settings, etc.
nandroid - related to md5 and such? Not needed for apps/data
recovery - recovery image
system - the rom itself.
Now, if I am correct, if I restore a working nandroid, and then just the data from a dead nandroid, as long as the ROM was the same between the 2 of them, I should be golden?
right? And issues with this?
What are you worried about losing? Between Google sync and HTC sense sync you'll get most of the important stuff back.

There are many apps which I no longer have a apk for that version (Soundhound? New version has permissions I don't want to give!) that I had there. And my TB backup was on the card as well...
So, anyone know if/how? In short: If I have a damaged nandroid and working nandroid of the same ROM, can I restore the data from the bad one to the good and how?

If you run an md5 of the data img you want, place that in the md5 file (included in the backup folder) it should restore properly. I've been in the same situation as you and that's what I did to fix it.

Hello guys!
I was updating from 4.4.4 to lollypop via OTA, then I realized that even if I run the stock ROM, I am still unlocked + root, meaning that the OTA won't run.
I did a complete nandroid backup via Wugs Nexus Toolkit, including data.
Then I wiped and flashed the new 5.0 via Nexus Toolkit, but when I tried to restore only the data it didn't work.
I decided to go back to 4.4.4. and do things properly, but now I'm not able to restore anything.
I am not bothered with the apps and stuff, but I had plenty of pictures which I forgot to backup, and I want to restore them. I even tried to access the nandroid backup files, but no success!
I was accustomed with the old CMW, where you had the .img files, but I got no clue on what to do here!
I add the picture of the nandroid backup folder on my PC ( I think the data files are splitted, but I cannot open them in any case, not even with 7zip).
The nandroid was executed via Nexus Toolkit, but I guess it has been done through TRWP.
Long story short:
1) how can I access the pictures inside the nandroid backup?
2) how can I restore a nandroid backup that keeps failing?

Maybe CWM does things differently, I don't know, but with TWRP, a Nandoid backup doesn't back up your SD card partition, so if you wiped everything, all your pics are gone. Sorry.
Yeah, I guess so.. Managed to recover something with DISK DIGGER (its an app, free on the store). Just wanted to write it here, so if anyone has the same issue can recover this way!
