D2 Problem, applicatoin can't run in background. - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Guys,
I have an issue that when my application go to background (for example S2U2 activiate), the application will close automatically (even if only 60-70% memory in use).
I am not sure if this is the AutoKill function provided by the HTC task manager.
I have tried to edit the register to "disable" and "disable the autokill"...BUT problem still exist.
I am now doubt if there is any other application will have the similar autokill function?
Thx!

How to close apps in memory?

There must be a program that can be used to close apps that are running in the background?
-John
Use settings
Safest thing is to use Start/Settings/system/Memory/Running Programs and stop all or whatever you want.
You can use the Task Manager program, but there are risks in doing this (see other threads on shutting down the Phone app which isn't named in the task manager list) and there are 3rd party apps which shut stuff down - search the threads.
One of the best things (IMHO) is Check Notifications
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
Never used SPB Pocket Plus?
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en
You can also close remarkably many programs (esp. the buildtin) by pressing Ctrl+Q on the softkeyboard (when the program is active)

Start a program minimized

Hi to all.
Anyone know how to made automatic startup of application in minimized mode?
I must do this to workaround to a mms problem, effectively i can receive mms only if the message application(tmail.exe) is started.
I think a good solution is to put a link to the application in automatic startup of ppc and it works fine, but when i reset the device at the end of startup process the application is in the foreground.
Thanks to all.
This would be easy if you use wisbar advance 2 or spb pocket plus.
firstly,u will have to put the shortcut of the program's exe file in the windows/startup
secondly, if you wisbar you'll have to put it under task management and tick on minimise(or dont show the icon)
if you are a pocket plus user, put it under exceptions tab(go to "close button" properties and then to exceptions tab)
KAMAL
Thanks a lot but this don't solve my problem...
If i softreset the ppc when it restart the tmail application remain in foreground and i must close it by x button.
The application continue running correctly in background but if possible id' like to completely automathize this process without anyone user action.
Srry that cant be done. I did the same, when I wanted to run pocket informant to always run in the background

There is no solution out of the box (unless there are hidden parameters that make the app minimize itself after starting, but who knows...) Both of you can workaround this with MortScript though. Google for the download link (use "MortScript" or "Mortscripts"), it is a freeware batch automation environment. Install it (small) and make up a script that you put into your autostart folders. It will look kinda like this:
Run \Windows\tmail.exe (or whatever other application you want)
Sleep 250 (adjust to how many milliseconds app takes to start)
Minimize <window title> (not .exe file name, but window title!)
That should do the trick.

bring S2U2 to front after resume from suspend (step-by-step workaround)

thanks to SMYKUL in this post, who gave me this workaround. here's a step-by-step workaround for those who are not familiar with notification queue.
IMPORTANT: this workaround can be used only when the "Lock when device wakes up" S2U2 option is turned on
launch Task Manager
--> goto Notifications tab
--> click "add" toolbar (i.e. the second toolbar button)
--> fill in notification details as:
type = Application
app = \Program Files\S2U2\s2u2.exe
argument = <blank>
type = CNT_EVENT
event = The device woke up
--> soft reset

i don't really understand what this workround is for ! What do you mean by return from suspend ? I've no issue on my device : when I press power button, SU2U is here.
me too
the symtom is, sometimes S2U2 is brought to front when resume from suspend mode, but sometimes not. i noticed that the longer time my touch dual remained in suspend mode, relatively higher chance for having Today screen placed on top of the S2U2 screen. sometimes when not that severe, only top Start bar of the Today screen placed on top of S2U2, but not the full Today screen. i read some posts from the S2U2 thread and also a local forum that the same problem not only happens on my device, but some others... while obviously not every, which sounds very odd. when S2U2 not on the front, a symptom is, S2U2 can be found from the HTC Task Manager program list, meaning the S2U2 already brought to visible by iLock2 but not being on topmost due to unknown reason.
the workaround here is for sharing with those who suffers from the same problem while really like to use S2U2.

Hi.
I've seen somthing like that on my Niki.
I've notist that PIE was open, so i closed it and tried again. And bingo, there was S2U2 running.
I think there was other programs, that stopped S2U2 from running(On resume from suspend mode), but i cant remember other than PIE atm.
It seems that PIE just need to be running to stop S2U2, even minimized it still prevents S2U2 from resuming.
But you can still launch S2U2 manually, even if PIE is running, and then goto suspend mode.

a pity that it is not my case. the case you mentioned was when any S2U2-excepted programs (determined by S2U2 EXE1-9 registry keys) are running. in this case, S2U2.exe is not turned to visible at all. (symptom: S2U2 cannot be found from the HTC Task Manager program list)
in my case, i could see S2U2 being launched first, then in a flash the Today screen overlays on it. in some cases only the top Start bar overlays on S2U2, in some other cases the whole Today screen overlays on S2U2. (symptom: S2U2 can be found from the HTC Task Manager program list)
i suspect it's because i've modified the GLYPHCACHE size or any other system tweaks that makes the Today screen taking longer than usual to be redrawn, resulting in a later point of time than S2U2.
That's what I want only backwards!
I would like s2u2 to lock my phone but be able to see the today screen (in the background) is there any way to do that??
hi, i saw this odd behaviour on my polaris, was quite annoying, not to mention making my phone look like a dog's dinner!!

How to minimize Opera than closing it when tap on the "X" button?

it is funny you mention because the question really is how to close opera. Once you have opened opera it stays on. the only thing is that you cannot see it in the task manager. they made it invisible so you can't kill the process. but now you also cant start it up from there. so when clicking the X you are minimizing the app. don't you think it starts fast when opening it for a second time. when new roms come without manilla, you will see it again in the task manager

just exit the program via the opera-menu then it really closes.
if you use the X it does only minimize.

that still doesnt close it, if u use a proces monitor like Sktools u can still see Opera9.exe running, its even in the top 10 in mem usage. killing it in the process monitor doesnt seem to fix it either as the proces gets restarted somehow, but it does use lots less memory afterwards
I uses Touch Pro (Raphael) before switching to Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium), Opera minimizes visibly in Task Manager. But not in Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). Now I know...
But is there a trick or 2 to modify the registry in Manila file(s)?
this would explain why sometimes as I'm moving offices etc and connecting to different wi-fi's sometimes although the wi-fi is connected it continues to use 3G.
I shutdown Opera and restart usually to try and force it to use the connected wi-fi but sometimes it just doesn't.
Turns out I'm not really shutting down opera hence why It continues to use it's original connection to 3G (not always though.)

I have been playing around with the registries and it seems there are some registry settings that you can change to prevent that
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
If you look into the above folder, you can find a list of apps that will run under exclusive, meaning they will not show up in the normal task manager. You will notice Opera9.exe is in there. If you remove the entry, you can now see Opera9.exe in the task list. But it still doesn't seem to terminate the process when you exit Opera. Hence for the first poster, if you just stop here, your Opera will minimize visibly to the tasklist once you click on the "X"
For those who want to further kill Opera when you click on "X", you need to go to
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
Add a DWORD key (Opera9.exe) and set the value to 1. Now when you exit Opera, the process will be terminated and memory returned.
This works for me.
Cool~ Will try it out. Thanks so much!

It's work! And I was looking for this for a long time !Thank You!
is there ANY possibility of someone posting a screenshot of exactly what this looks like when it is typed in? I am so new and i dont want to mess up anything. Thanks.
But it opens very quickly when you want to use it again. Almost immediatly.
I just use cleanRAM a couple of times a day...Mostly after using opera
As far as I know opera keeps running is because push page is enabled.
Turn off push page in registry and reboot, then and it should not be always running in background.

Hello,
Sorry, it doesn't work for me
I've tryed every solution I found, I believe on registry settings, but all I found doesn't work, the opera9.exe process still become again and again, however I kill it, turn on the registry keys (RealExit, allready on), using the right menu of Opera for the built in "real" exit, killing Opera9.exe from different Task Manager (then OperaL.exe appears a few seconds, then Opera9.exe again), renaming file OperaL.exe to not be launched at startup -> another one was restored (more ancient) !
How is it possible to change any settings on a brower, or installing any plugin, if this one is always running ??
Thanks for help

Yes, you did it ! Woohoo !
Thanks a lot for this tip, it helps me !
In fact, I didn't need to install the NoPushInternet_v2.CAB of TinTin, but thanks to him ; the indication that there is a service to stop was suffisant for me. I set myself the PushInternet service to start manually, with FdcSoft Task Manager. After soft reset, Opera is not launched automatically !
I gain 5% of free memory.
In addition to that, Opera works better now, the splash screen of Opera Mobile appears when he starts, sign that it is really launched manually. And Flash Player runs now, that's great ! Sign that it is not possible to install a plugin when the browser is still running. And also, when minimized, Opera appear in the Task Manager menu of TF3D, great too.
Strangely, when I use the Opera menu to exit, it does not ! He's not minimized, but Opera9.exe is still running. But I can kill it and he doesn ot reappear.
Also, if I use the X button, Opera really exit ! So, all is allright
Anybody has an idea oon which process to chose to do the same with Activesync ?
Should be \Windows\repllog.exe ?

How can i hide (not close) htc message with right down close button

Hi all,
i use spb mobile shell. With this UI, takes a long time to load sms messages (1 sec is a lot for me ). So i try to figured out, how can i hide sms ui, but not close.
I tried Ameba, but this doesnt have possiblitity to do exception for apps.
Maybe some change of registry? In my signature are my rom (i use rom with big buttons and cross in right down corner)
any suggestions?
thx
will it be closed if you just hit the backbutton? or are you looking for a software solution?!
Maybe this is what you're looking for. Excerpt taken from tboy2000 thread:
82. Make Common Apps Open Instantly With No Delay
The most often used apps on the HD2 would be SMS and Email. As the HD2 has plenty of memory and it is very hard to fill it up during use, why not add these two apps to the task manager exception list. This means they will never truely exit and will always be open in the background. The benefit of this is that HTC Messaging does not automatically refresh and redraw the contact thumbnails when you load the app. Instant opening of both apps with no load time. You can add any other app to this list too if you never want it to exit.
Just use this tweak. HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManagerExclusiveList\System and add a new DWORD Value of Messaging_Client.exe and tmail.exe
to fruchtfliege:
i know about back button, but yes, i want software solution. I want alway use cros for closing apps, but for this two i dont want to close them.
to weepatc:
yes, i know about this change of registry. I tried it in past, but i think it is not working because it is not very quicker loading. I dont see them in task manager (but maybe this is normal when it is excluded).
i will try it again..
thx guys for help
if are any other suggestions, it will be great
now i figured out, that tmail is ok, and this exe file doesnt close, but file Messaging_Client.exe it still close after pressing cros (X).
I try tu use sk tools in runing proceses i also try to set "add to dont close list" but it also doesnt works and this process is still killed
why?
