Syncing Calendars... - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi,
I use a Mac and Im trying to sync my iCal calendars with Google Calendars so I can check and change them on the move. I have looked online and managed to find a way to link the two so that when I use google calendars it gets updated to my iCal but I cant sync my iCal calendars so they are part of my google calendar(if this makes sense).
What I really need is a way to do this so I dont have to go and create my full calendars all over again for google. If anyone knows a way to do this I'd be very grateful.
On another note does anyone know how to move all my phone contacts to be google contacts on the device? For the life of me I cant find how.
Cheers, Exo

I know there was this issue with other apps on linux, like KOrganizer... It seems that google only allows sync download but no upload... only way to upload to your calendar is login into google and upload the ical or vcal file that you exported from your desktop application

Try Spanning Sync it is a paid application but it works for calendars and contacts

Synchronise Google Contacts / Calendar

Hello,
I would like to know if somthings exists (like ActiveSync) to synchronise your contacts and Calendar with Gmail ?
AFAIK this is the best thing so far...
I've read that there's a team at Google workign on this already but for now we have this:
http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2006/04/incorporate-google-calendar-into.html
I watched the link you sent me but the sync is a one way sync from google calendar to Outlook and then to your PDA. It seems to be the only thing existing for the moment.
Waiting for Google to correct this has they always do
I found this adress from google, listing all the APIs you can use to make applications working with the Google web sites and softs :
<http://code.google.com>
It could be useful to someone if he wants to make this kind of synch tool...
It seems rather weird that if you were to key in appointments on your phone which will not be appearing on the google calendar. It be a good idea to have your calendar to be published onto a website where everyone can see your schedule (if you let them) or at least they wil know when you will be busy or not.
Even the google works, you still need to have a google account to view the time table.
Google Calendar Sync
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
You can now access your Google Calendar account from your mobile phone! Just visit mobile.google.com/calendar/ with your phone's web browser and once you're logged in, you'll see your list of upcoming events with date and time information in an easy-to-browse format.
Cheers

Sync calendars, contacts on Mac: is possible?

Hi, I'm a Mac user. Anyone know how can I sync calendars, contacts, mail and other things how for example photos?
I just set my wifes mac up to sync contacts and calendar. There is a thunderbird plugin to sync contacts, and I don't remember what I used for the calendar, but I found it via a google search. I do remember that the solution that I used required OS X 10.5 or better. I will see what I can find tonight when I get home...pretty sure I bookmarked the site I used for a tutorial.
oh yeah, I think the contact sync plugin for thunderbird was zindus...

and here is a link for the calendar...obviously, I set her up on Thunderbird, however, I believe it will also work with iCal.

If you only need to sync the contacts, you can use the Address Book, it has built-in capabilities to sync with google (gmail). However, if you also would like to sync google's calendar with iCal, then you would need to take a different route.
1) if you don't use thunderbird, start using it and install the plug-in mentioned above.
2) Pay for Spanning Sync, it costs some money (i think is $20/year or so).
3) Use the google calendar straight from the browser, forget about iCal, and use the Address Book to sync contacts
I took the 3rd option, I sync my contacts using the built-in sync option in Address Book, and as for my calendar I just use the browser, I got used to it and it works for me!
Thanks a lot, but does the built-in sync in Address Book sync also the contact from Mac to google contacts?
your mac can sync without any additional progs with google.
i sync my ical app with google (from my mac)
i sync my adresse bock with google (from my mac)
i sync my contacts app with google (from my mac)
and then i sync my g1 with google (calender, adresse bock and contacts). now, everything is in sync with each other. if i change something on my mac, online or on the g1 it is synced to both other parts.
How can I do that? I used this:
http://lifehacker.com/393855/enable-google-contact-sync-without-an-iphoneipod-touch
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358
But now on g1 there isn't my contacts and calendars.......
Weird, CalDAV never worked for me, I just tried it again for curiosity and it worked.

Google calendar app without Google server?

As you know, Google don't have to/must not know everything, especially calendar entries of buisyness man.
I don't want google to know my appointments a.s.o.!
Is it possible to use the google calendar on the phone without synchronizing with the Google server but sync with the personal outlook?
Perhaps there is a independent calendar app, don't need to access the htc or google calendar, but is able to sync with outlook... AND is able to set appointments as private?
Perhaps it is possible to have my own "google server" for me and my family at home?
There's absolutely no need for synchronizing with google, you can always uncheck it if you don't want it and only synchronize with Outlook.
And there's also no need to even use the built-in calendar application, there are others in the market.
You just have to have a Google account, but that doesn't mean you have to give google your appointment details.
I don't know if there's an application where you can set your appointments as private, at least for Exchange server it is not possible, unfortunately.
I've not found a stand alone calendar application in the market with their own database. If you know one please tell me.
All calendars i found use the build-in google or htc calendarDatabase.
Yes, that's possible, I may be wrong. But still, with the built-in calendar you don't have to sync with your google calendar. If you just sync with Outlook, even though you'll see your appointments in the Google calendar app, they won't be synchronized with your Google account.
I use the HTC calendar app and sync it to my PC's outlook calendar and HTCSync. Same with my contacts. Don't go anywhere near Google for any of that
Yes, the htc calendar is a stand-alone app. But if you use your business calendar for privat, too, you need the possibility to set appointments as privat. And the htc calendar isn't capable of that.

[Q] How to sync iCal to google calendar?

I recently switch from my iPhone to the Epic. Ive been trying several methods in order to sync my new phone with whatever I have in my mac's iCal, but none of em have been successful. Does anyone know how this could be accomplished?
I know if you publish your ical to a file, you can import it directly into Google Calendar (web version) and it will sync right to the phone. After the initial sync, have iCal sync with Google Calendar on a consistent basis (or drop iCal altogether), and all will be working fine.
Ive tried all possible ways to sync my iCal to my google calendar and nothing has worked so far. I tried exporting/importing iCal files into my google calendar, push from my Iphone to google/exchange, publish my iCal using a third-party server....and nothing!
Please advise!
Not sure what's not working on your end, I've done that more than a few times without issues. Possibly check Google's support forums?
