To all Devs,
May we request to have USB host enable kernel please?
Thanks.
It's not a software issue. HD2 doesn't support USB Host .

Actually it looks like lack of USB host is a software issue. I read in the Linux development thread that USB host is enabled in the HD2 Ubuntu rom..... What I dont know is whether android in its current state supports USB host. Did I read somewhere that USB host is a feature in the upcoming Android 2.3? I am not sure.
HD2 does support usb host. There are kernels in autobuild system that have usb host enabled.
Once the software is setup, (i know only ubuntu) you need to inject power between hd2 and the hardware you want to connect, because our tiny battery can't handdle the 500ma/5V power output needed for most usb hardware.
Search on ubuntu hd2 wiki, you'll find schematics for power injection cable, and people that have succesfully connected keyboards, mouses, and mass storages.

It's not that it cannot handle the power consumption on its microUSB port, it's because there is no way that it can provide power at all (it is not wired to do that), and that's why you have to provide power for all of your USB gadgets with the Y cable, for which you can find the schematics on the htc-linux wiki.
can this be possible?
Theoretically, HD2 should provide power to USB if is switched to OTG. PMIC that HD2 using it (PM7540) is able to do that.
Hi,
I have a few questions regarding the extra functionality available through the USB adapter that I would be grateful if someone could answer. I really like the look of this device but am unsure about a few things.
1) Does the USB adapter (30pin to USB) allow charging at the same time?
2) Does anybody know if there is a docking station that will provide USB & HDMI out. It would be nice to use this device, attach a harddrive and output to a TV.
Thank you for your time!

i suppose it might be possible if you were to use a multi usb port adapter with the usb adapter. I am not really sure if that will work though.
I talked with Samsung support today asking if the USB dongle could be attached to a regular USB cable for charging and they said yes.
Hi guys,
Just bought a vega, which should arrive soon. I'd love to be able to hook it up to my SDTV via composite, and I know the device supports USB Host mode.
Therefore does anyone know of a device which will allow me to mirror the screen via composite using the USB Host mode in any ROM?
Thanks a lot!
I don't think you can output video thru USB on any Android device.
MHL is for that and Vega doesn't have that connector.
You can only output thru HDMI, therefore you probably need something like this:

I'm looking for the new instructions for this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105497
I can't find any of the downloads as the links lead to a 404 Error. Which means cant be found. So does anyone have these files still?
Nook Color Tweaks has a host mode toggle.
Pretty much any of the newish Roms will have USB host mode. I don't know about the webcam part (and don't have the right usb adapter to test it.

Thanks will try this, I installed the app, so should I just enable USB HOST MODE, then use this piece USB 2.0 A Female to Micro-B Male Adapter to connect my usb keyboard in? and it should process it? sorry noob here
If you are going to be able to get it to work at all you will likely need a powered hub as well.....
Hi all, i found in xda forum a pdf guide of how to enable OTG on kernel, with Linux, here is the link, i didn't do this pdf, i'd found it here in this forum...
Here we go:
I hope anyone try this method, i can't try it because i have no time.
first thing first this is for the galaxy s3 and well we have the play.....and secondly i belive that the only sign of OTG on the play was in the fileing system and not the actual hardware...
so all in all i dont belive that its posible to get otg on our play
No USB OTG will never be possible on the PLAY. Sombody on here posted the play shematics. The ID pin in micro usb slot is not connected, so our device will stay in slave mode and cannot change to master.

Then wouldn't it be possible to connect the pin?
Well no because then the USB device would go into slave mode but our play couldnt do anything. you would need to change the motherboard add a usb chip and so on ... so in fact it is not possible. USB OTG will not work on our play. end.
