MicroSD cards support - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hello people,
I was wondering which is the maximum microsd capacity that HTC Hero supports. As far as I know the maximum capacity for micro sd cards is 16GB. Does Hero support them?
By the way does anybody know when the 32GB micro sd card are going to be released and if they will be supported by Hero?
I am running the latest official firmware and my Hero is unlocked.
Thank you in advance!

I have a Kingston 16Gb and it works fine on Hero. Not sure when 32Gb will be released or whether they will work. Hope it is soon and yes ;-)

I emailed HTC about this very issue a month or so ago. While 32GB cards aren't out yet, I was told there's no reason why they shouldn't work in the Hero.

SD Micro Class
Hey, does anyone know whether a class 6 sd card would make the apps run quicker from the sd card or would the class 4 card (that was supplied) be sufficient. Just wondering should i buy a class 6 Micro SD card.

The 16gb class 2 card seems just as fast as the 2gb one in the box, and a 8gb class 6 card i had.

SDHC Card Capacity

What is the largest capacity SDHC card that this phone can accommodate? Has anyone tried 16 GB or 32 GB cards yet?
biggest card I'm using up to now is an 8GB card from sandisk.
16 Gb from SANDISK works perfectly...
16G Kingstone works perfectly as well.
That's good news.
Brought a 8G Kingston the other day.Installed it into the device but cannot detect it.Put in a 4g and it was able to detect the 4g card.Call up the HTC support and was told that only scandisk brand of memory card can be used.

Good thing my 8 gig happens to be Sandisk.
I'm using 16gb scandisk, working fine.
As far as I know, SD 2.0 (SDHC) is fully supported by the jade, i. e. cards up to 32gb.
Unfortunately the highest available capacity for micro SD is 16 right now :>

I think I saw a 32gb one at Amazon or Newegg ............... prohibitively expensive though.
What is the highest Class supported? Class 6 or higher?
i use 8gb Kingston (micro-SDHC, Class 4). works fine with my jade.

What is the best SD card for the Hero?

Heya,
I'm sure this topic has been discussed but I can't seem to find a clear answer. It's obvious that the HTC Hero is somewhat temperamental with certain makes and classes of Micro SD, or the assumed Class 6 isn't always as fast as people hope.
In my case the 2gb stock card is just going to be too small so I'm keen to purchase the biggest card the phone will support (which is 16gb?) or 8gb. Is there a card in particular which stands out as being the best (in terms of speed) for the HTC Hero at these sizes?
Thanks
i think the biggest possible micro sdhc card is 32gb, but i´m not sure and it was not worth to me so i bought a 16gb and it works perfect
Are there 32GB micro sd cards available?

find Sandisk 32GB micro SDHC is already available for pre-order, but no specific date of release.
I just bought a Sandisk 16GB micro sd (class 2), appears faster then the 2gb stock card.
Try to search some technical reviews of different SD card with statistics. Much better than relying on "CLASS".
Class is important
Hi, I would say that in a price/performance view you should go for a 8GB class 6 card right now. The class says how fast the card can transfer data. Class 2 does 2MB/s. Class 6 does 6MB/s.
32GB is the limit of the SDHC format. I have 8GB now and I guess I upgrade to 32GB later when prices get better.
for sandisk, class 2 = class 4, class 4 = class 6.
as i know, some class 2 is actually much faster than the standard minimum speed.
I have an 8 gig in my phone but its having trouble rescanning the card i have like 4 gigs of music on it and I think thats too much for the phone to scan, that would be my only thing to maybe consider.
Ps if anyone has a solution for my problem that would be great haha
Unless you despareately need to store A LOT of data on your phone get the fastest card rather than the largest.
8GB SanDisk Class 6 card is about £17.
16GB SanDisk Class 6 is nearly £50.
Prices will drop rapidly so for now I'd go for 8GB at 6MBPS over 16GB or 32GB at a lower speed.
Hi - Following on from this, has anyone used a 32GB card and proven it works. I'd hate to get one and find out that it's incompatible with the G2 Hero.
32GB microSD cards are out?!

The 16GB Class 6 you list doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me, it is a wee bit over twice the price, but not ridciulously so (i.e 3x the price). It is the best MicroSDHC card that money can buy, and the transcend one I've got is nice and fast (pretty sure it was less than £50 too, now that I think about it).

Nup, no 32GB MicroSDHC cards as yet fellas, all the sites I've seen, list the Sandisk one for Pre-Order, but its been like that for 6 months, so maybe they're planning for a 2010 release?
Err is that spam?
any offical word or tests showing that a class 6 will work to its full speed... rumor I have heard is the hardware in the hero (us version) will utilize up to class 2 speeds.
(Not to say a class 6 wont work. just that it will only be reading and writing at class 2 speeds) Can anybody confirm?
I can maintain 6-7MB/s write speak to my 16GB Class 6 which is Class 6 speeds. Not as fast as I'd like (SD speeds), but worlds better than the Nokia N95 8GB I had before which was limited to 800-1000KB/s (only USB 2.0 full speed as opposed to hi speed).
qwiksand, is that from your hero or from a card reader?
I am trying to find the source now but cant rummage up my history; i swear i read an email from HTC saying the card reader in the Hero was a class 2 reader, thus nullifying any performance increase from a class 4 or 6 card.
hmm, you're making me doubt myself now!
I'll do a speed test today both in the phone, and out.

Likewise,I'm sure I read an official source saying that it would only make use of 16GB irrespective of the size of the card. Sounds more dubious but I'm not going to risk it with my own money!!
Any updates? Want to get one on black friday
As what i know G3 Hero only support up to 16gb sd/sdhc card.
As the class on those card are for writing speed & reading speed is all the same.
edit: i have found some news frm somewhere...
Good Morning Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about what class of SD card to use in your Sprint HTC Hero. My name is A.J. and I will be happy to assist you today.
If you are looking to purchase an SD card that the device will read at its full native speed you will need to purchase a class 2. The device will read a class 4 but not at its native speeds.
Frank, if you have any future questions about your device please feel free to visit HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer and send us another e-mail. You may also enjoy HTC Smartphone Wiki - HTC, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices, including the Sprint HTC Hero! I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey I hope you have a great day!

According to HTC's website the Hero can use SD 2.0, SD 2.0 is another way of saying SDHC, just like devices that are compatible with standard SD, the device is expandable to the limit of the format. Therefore, the Hero CAN do 32GB because it is SDHC compatible. Only problem is the 32GB Cards have yet to be mass produced.

HD2: No SDHC???

I have already got a 16GB SDHC class 6...
Hope I am wrong... XD
But this will not work in the HD2? That's just crazy. Can it really be true that it only supports crappy old and slow MicroSD at the very max size of 8gb and no real internal phone memory??? Even the hero has sdhc :S
EDIT: Source: http://www.htc.com/europe/product/hd2/specification.html
The specification says '(SD 2.0 compatible)'.
SD 2.0 allows up to 32 Gb per card.
HC only means the card is bigger than 4GB.
Can't see any issue here ...
So my microSDHC is compatible? =)
The slot is a microSD one. Your card is a microSD one.
The SD 2.0 standard allows 32 GB. Your card is 16GB.
(Forget about the HC part, purely marketing and useless)
Short answer: yes, your 16GB microSD card is compatible with the HD2.

[Q] [04 Mar] Micro SD Vs SDHC

Advanced apologies for the newbie question...
HTC HD2 phone
upgraded yesterday to 3.14rom
looking for bigger than 2gb class2 MicroSD card for android OS
Almost bought Micro SDHC 8g class 6 card but checked logo inside phone by the SD card and it displays Micro SD. Seller of SDHC suggests compatible devices will show the SDHC logo.
So.. I called HTC support UK and they said it only supports Micro SD - although I think he just ready the webpage I was looking at rather than expressing knowledge through personal experience.
SDHC cards obviously have bigger capacity and seem to be more available with higher classes. looking at amazon/play.com/etc
On here (great site btw) people seem to be talking of SDHC cards in HD2's with no problems.
So for an HD2 phone running Android off the card, which is it, SD, SDHC or both?
Recommendations welcome

Well I think you are little bit confused so let me clear this up. The SDCard that is used on our device are called microSD (2GB) and microSDHC (8GB,16GB,32GB) as HC means High Capacity. Now don't confuse it with SDHC which is another standard of its own and its bigger as it will not fit in the mSD slot. Now that being said don't worry about the logo as we are using SD2.0 it is capable of accepting 32GB cards.
Forget amazon and ebay if you don't understand how to thoroughly verify it as you might get fake card which is hexed as it will read curtain quota but actually is much less. Go visit NewEgg and buy it from them as they do have cheap card with decent price and if something goes wrong you can RMA it.
Now the last part is the quality of the card which will depend on the wear level and life expectancy of it. Far as the class goes all it means it at the worst condition it has to meet that requirement. Now that does not mean class 2 can't won't be getting class 4 speed. Go with Kingston or SanDisk as its good for general consumer like you. I myself had Kingston 32GB Class 4 on HD2 which I won't recommend as that is another thread by itself
absolutely at least sdhc better extreme
try this http://www.sdcard.org/, will help you more understanding....

Micro SDHC Cards Listing - Like a Boss :D

So in response to my previous thread on the DVP and if it would work for me I'd like to thank everyone for their insightful thoughts options and most of all answers.
Now my next question, Micro SDHC card choices. And again, answers are the preferred responses but thoughts and options would be fantastic.
I am going to add to and edit together a list of Micro SDHC Cards on here for people to reference for the future.
Firstly, I already own this card but have yet to try it with a DVP. Anyone here with experience or can at least validate the technical specifications as having a chance at working, let me know.
Transcend 32GB Class 4 Micro SDHC Card via Amazon
Thanks again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Sandisk 32GB Class 2 Micro SDHC Card via Amazon ** Note this card has been listed on other forms as working despite its Class 2 Status with speeds closer to that of a class 4 card**
2. Lexar 32GB Class 10 Micro SDHC Card via Amazon **Verified working by InvisibleKnight**
3. Amazon Basics 16GB Class 10 Micro SDHC Card via Amazon **Note this is a class 10 card, but according to the first reviewers benchmarks it does 20mb/s copy speed which is twice as good as class 10 speeds. Should work well with a windows phone, theoretically speaking**
4. Sandisk 32GB Class 4 Micro SDHC Card via Amazon (originally manufactured as Class 2 but later reclassed as class 4) **Used by a ZDnet write to upgrade his personal DVP. Has never reported any issues i know of UPDATE - Purchased this card for myself, works like a charm, no probs so far (knock on wood)**
I bought a 32Gb Lexar Class 10 Micro SDHC, and not only it works, my dvp seems to run quite faster than before.
You can find about the card itself here

Can anyone try this one? It would be great to have 64GB of storage...

How's your class 10 card holding up?
Micro SDXC has a completely different specification From Micro SDHC. Remember when Micro SDHC came out, older devices that were made to use jus Micro SD wouldnt read them, same issues with the DVP and those SDXC cards.

Oh well, we'll wait for the next phone with physical portrait keyboard and SDXC compatibility
Wish we can get a little more feedback on this.
Does anyone know if we can go back to the old card if the new one doesn't work out? Is it just a matter of popping the old one back in the sd slot?
I know what u mean. Msoft said tha tthe Windows Phones would be the next generation Zune Players, but coming from a Zune80, a phone shipping with 8 - 16 gbs of storage is pathetic. I have 60 gbs of music, what am i supposed to do with a 8 gb DVP?
Thank goodness the DVP is somewhat easy to upgrade to 32gigs. At the very least msoft should give u the ability to stick two Micro sdhc cards in a phone, mux it together and create a 64gb pool of storage.
tried lexar 16GB class 10?
I got a SanDisk 16 class 4, its been doing fine then it got stuck at whatsapp then the phone goes into a loop of restart and cut off.
The only way to fix it was to recover the phone.
so I need a new card for my phone, I see that the lexar 32Gb class 10 is good for this phone but don't want to go up to 32GB, has anyone tried the 16GB version? Would it come out with the same results ?

Heard there were two patches, one is a renaming of a class 2 to class 4 and another is the newer where its different class 4.
I guess I got the bad batch.....
I recently got a DVP. It shipped with a 16GB Sandisk class 4, which worked fine for a few days until my 32GB Sandisk class 4 arrived, which also has no problems at all.
Watch out for fake Sandisk cards, apparently they are out there.
Yeah it should work just fine that 16gb class 10. A little fyi, i bought that 32 gb sandisk (no 4) Working fine so far.
Once the speed is class 4 and over and there are no bad memory areas on the card u'll be fine no matter the size.
