Changing the Virtual Keyboard... - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

2 things I despise about the virtual keyboard (Tmobile) is the big arrows at the bottom of the screen that I often accidentally press when I try to hit the space bar.....and the Xt9/ABC key....again, tooo close to other keys. Is there any way to change/remove these keys....they drive me nuts!

Why not to try finger keyboard, it is a very intellegent keyboard with a lot of customization options http://www.fingerkeyboard.com not need to say to download the wvga version.

Keyboard habits

I have this issue when i use the onscreen keyboard, when i go to press the spacebar, i quite often end up pressing the full stop/period key instead and it cheeses me right off!
Just this moment i thought i would use the landscape keyboard and i was typing away and used my right thumb as usual to press the spacebar, but it was a bit far and strained by thumb, so i thought i would use my left thumb, feels odd but i wasnt getting any full stop errors, or even accidently pressing the comma button (the button the otherside of the space bar) as the space bar in portrait is ever so slightly towards the left, meaning that the left thumb can hit the spacebar more accurately.
What thumb do you guys use to press the spacebar? and do you get this accidental full stop button press like i do?
if you press the space bar twice after a word it puts a full stop in and then a space. you may be doing this by accident. try using the tip of your finger and not the pad as it is more accurate that way.

why would that help? my problem is that my right thumb seems to in a better position to press the full stop. there is nothing wrong with the screen!

larger onscreen keyboard

is there any way of getting a larger onscreen keyboard on the x10 as my fingers are quite large for the small size keys and i keep hitting the wrong keys
Try Swype or SlideIT - both use sliding to work out the words and are less reliant on typing accuracy..

[Q] Keyboard

I read in the manual that you can change the layout of the keyboard. the only option I see is qwerty....how to do I make it show the cell phone keyboard?
Arrow
When you have the keyboard open, there is an icon underneath it, with an arrow pointing upwards. If you get your stylus out and press the arrow (not the keyboard icon), you will get a few options (Phone Keypad, Compact QWERTY and Full QWERTY). I use full QWERTY but I do admit that the Phone Keypad is quite easy to use.
Hope that helps

[DEV-REQ] add swipe to move cursor in text entry box

Request:
A mod to the Sense textinput box to move the cursor left/right if the user swipes left/right over the textbox
Why:
The DesireHD doesn't have a trackball or D-pad, the stock HTC keyboard adds arrow keys to make up for this, but if you don't use that keyboard you have to be very precise with your finger or wait for the magnifier to pop up. Even then it can be very hard to move the cursor to either edge of the box.
I don't think any action is currently performed on swiping across the textbox so this shouldn't get in the way of anything.

Is Swype included with this device? I mean from factory?

I don't think he is talking about swype. He is just asking for a mod that will move the cursor left and right by swiping left and right through the textinputbox.
The HTC IME mod keyboard has a setting for using the volume rocker to move the cursor...
maybe it's an easy hack to do the same thing for swype?
how did the EVO folks survive without a trackball/trackpad for so long?

Keyboard mods

So let me start out by saying I like the default JB keyboard. However it is missing 2 crucial things for me. A tab button and the ability to long press keys. Has there been any modding going on yet for the keyboard?

I miss all the extra long-press characters, too. It used to be the top row could be long-pressed for numbers and stuff, and other keys for other symbols. I never use the accents anyway, though I think it is good that Google includes them.
I really like the new keyboard, too. I still use thumb keyboard instead, so I can have escape, tab, page up and page down keys, but I prefer how the default keyboard provides various punctuation. It's easy to get to the - and _ symbols, apostrophe and comma have their own keys, and so on.
The new look is very clean, though.

I'm going to try and use the keyboard from the cm9 rom on the touchpad since it has more options for long press keys and a tab button. Hopefully it installs.
Long press is working great on 4.1.1 keyboard. My question is if there is a way to enable popup on key press. Not only I like that feature but it helps me type also. Thanks!
Hacker's Keyboard from the Play Store will give you either the Gingerbread style keyboard or a full 5 row keyboard.
Both the Gingerbread and 5 row keyboard have the long-press feature on the number keys, with the full set of symbols. It also has popup keys.
The 5 row is a full keyboard with arrow keys, ESC, CTL, ALT, FN keys, etc. Works great in terminal emulator, it's essential with vi.
I use the 4 row Gingerbread in portrait mode and the 5 row in landscape. That's the default, but you can change it.
The only thing I don't like in Hacker's Keyboard is the click sound - it is much louder than the stock click. Probably easy to fix by swapping out a resource or sound file, but I haven't looked.
