Hi Everyone,
I'm struggling to get mobile network sharing working on my Hero/Laptop.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with my phone, Orange UK or Windows 7 x86 RTM.
There's no problem activating Network Sharing on the phone itself, this works fine. I did have an issue where the driver wouldn't install but I resolved this by manually updating it using the Vista x86 driver that was installed with HTC Sync. It's now being shown in Device Manager in Windows 7 as a HTC Remote NDIS based Device.
So, you would think that I'd now have an internet connection through my phone........unfortunately not. The network point that the phone is providing is just getting stuck whilst 'Identifying' then ultimately doesn't connect.
Has anyone got any ideas what's happening and how to go about sorting it out. I work away from home quite a lot and most of the time, using my phone as a modem is the only way of connecting to the internet. When I had a WinMo phone, I didn't have this issue at all. It's the only issue I have with the Hero at the moment. If I can get it sorted out, it'll be the best phone around.
Any help would be appreciated.
Works for me, both with the original firmware and the new 2.73.405.5, on Fedora 11. For the record, I'm not on Orange. But your problem is that your computer apparently does not get its dhcp configuration from the phone, which does not have anything to do with the provider. Since you run a custom firmware, its not some sneaky Orange program either
Although I've never used it, I hear that there is an update for HTC Sync. Are you using that or the one that came with the phone?
Sorted it.........well I coudn't get Mobile Network Sharing to work but managed to do it quite easily in the end using the WiFi Tether app (that's part of the Modaco ROMs).
Doh.....never even though to try it out before now

Is anyone using tethering, either via bluetooth or usb with their verizon 6800 and windows 7?
I used it all the time when i was using xp with my laptop, but havent been able to try it yet with the windows 7 RC partition.
I have a couple of issues which may give me problems, at least right now.
I'm currently overseas, and I dont have verizon service here (australia) so i cant play around and test out to see if i do get it setup and working.
What i want to know is what software and setup i should have on windows 7, or vista, cause i guess theyre probably closer to eachother than xp and 7 are, to allow me to use the ICS sharing in dcd 3.2.6.
i want to figure out how to test that i have it setup correctly, cause on my flight home which is in a week and a half, i have a layover in the san fran airport, and want to be able to use my laptop tethered there while I wait.
any similar situations or help would be great,
Thanks
Yes, I have used it via bluetooth. Assuming you have already paired the phone with the computer via bluetooth, just use the built in ICS from DCD rom, click on the bluetooth icon in the taskbar and click 'join a personal area network'. This is pretty much the same as windows XP.
yeah, ive paired it with the comp.
when i was on xp i used the built in dell bluetooth manager, and with windows 7 im using the devices and printers manager. I usually like to connect it with usb so i can keep it charged at the same time.
Hopefully everything works without me needing to download anything, cause i obviously wont have internet in the airport without it.
thanks
I've tried both standard ICS and WMWifiRouter (though not on XV6800) and works fine for me on every device I tried (see signature for a list, I tested most of them).
I've heard from various people that it doesn't work on Windows 7, but plugging it in (for USB) and just waiting a few minutes automatically starts driver installation process, wait a few minutes more and it'll just work.
I have noted that sometimes it does actually take a 10 minute wait before Windows 7 will wake up and realise it has some driver installation to do, but aside from that, 100% success rate here.
I have not tried BT on us many devices as USB, but seems to work everytime as well.
I've had this problem before but I forgot how to fix it
My internet went out about three hours ago so I'm posting from my phone. I'd really like urgent help as I have a job over the internet and I can't do it as long as my computer doesn't have internet.
When I use WMWifirouter with Windows 7, it seems to connect but it eventually shows the yellow triangle warning sign with the message "no internet access" next to the network name. I used to have this working both as a Wifi receiver and a 3g adapter, but one day it just stopped working. I really, really need help tethering my phone ASAP
If you need any other info just ask
Urgent??
You came to ask if someone would help you install an app designed for Windows Phone 6.5 onto an operating system that has no official apps and is not even released yet, and that you hacked onto your phone.
Would you like sugar with that? One lump or two?
If I find anything useful, I'll post it, lol.
What the hell are you talking about? Windows 7 is out and I see people using it on laptops at school. Also, I'm running the application on my phone and connecting it to my computer via USB. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you reply
I have my internet back, but I'd still like to know how to do this since this most likely will happen again

Hi, I have the same problem, i am trying to get internet connection on my windows 7 laptop in work usink ICS and/or trial wmrwifirouter. Both ways, i get connection, either to wi-fi or usb, end also to 3G network on phone, but connection icon displays yellow triangle warning no internet access.
- in my next step i ran it on my virtual windows xp machine - the same thing
- I also noticed that pinging google.com resolved IP address, but requests timed out
Non branded hd2 on stock wwe 1.66 rom on t-mobiles network. For some strange reason I can connect to Marketplace via t-mobile but not through my home wifi, on wifi it says unable to connect to server, pls check your connection (the that it has encountered a serious problem), but my connection is fine as I can surf via wifi no problem. I uninstalled marketplace, soft reset, reinstalled, still ith problem persists, anyone else have this?
BUMP
some mobile programs require a cellular data connection to work properly. I'm guessing marketplace is one of them.
On second thought, looks like I can access Microsoft Marketplace on wifi. Are you sure that your wifi is working and doesn't require going through an approval process? (Some wifi's have a home page that you have to agree to terms on before you can access)
I had the same problem with Active sync with a cable I could surf the internet but couldn’t access market place downloads (Marketplace could not cannot connect to a server) so I disconnected and just connected to the modem Wi-Fi and no problem with Market Place all downloaded.
Strange
Had this issue myself with T-Mobile,
After months of searching it would appear that the problem was that Marketplace requries and authentication code and at some point when using the phone this was switched off.
From what I read the person didnt know how to change it within the phone but could view that it was turned off, they put on a new ROM and Marketplace flew into action.
I followed this and also slapped on a new ROM..... has worked for me and am using Marketplace to the best of its abilities.
Basic answer....flash a new ROM!
Hi, I wonder if someone can help me with this problem. I recently got a Shift X9501 from China, it is already liberated with WM6 working (it has Start menu, internet explorer, USB Tools, etc.). However, the only thing I couldn't find is the Internect sharing application. It doesn't show up in the Start -> Programs folder nor can I find it in the Windows folder. I was testing the 3G connection on the Shift using my iPhone SIM card, and it only worked on the WinMo side not the Vista side. I called HTC and AT&T customer services and was told that it was because my SIM card won't allow desktop Windows to use the 3G service. So I'm guessing my only solution is to use the Internet Sharing. Please, anyone could give me a hand on this? Thx!!
Internet sharing is possible. There is nothing that you need to do or run on the WM side.
Internet sharing can only be done from the Windows side as wifi and bluetooth is only accessible there, for connection to your external device, e.g. laptop or iphone.
Check this thread for instruction on internet sharing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488872&highlight=sharing
If it doesn't work then you may need to check your windows services to check that the internet sharing service is enabled.
Then it should work.
Hi Flanimal, thanks for the reply. But I don't think that's what I am meaning. From what I learned from the forum and other sources, I think the original Shift should come with an application called internet sharing in Snapvue even without liberation, and it can share the 3G connection from Snapvue to Vista. The application is also a standard one for WM6. I was wondering since mine is of model X9501 and it's already liberated when I got it. I doubt is it possible that the liberation deleted that function? Please help if you have any idea, a great many thanks!
I got a partial solution here by myself, and am writing it here in case anyone has similar problem. I tried to download an application named ICS Control 0.21, and copied the required IPNat.dll to the windows directory, and it turned out this way won't work as it told me loading the NAT driver failed. Then I tried to copy the IntShrUI.exe and intshare.dll to the windows directory (which are official WM6 files downloaded from somewhere else in this forum), and they also didn't work, and when I run the internet sharing application (IntShrUI.exe), it prompted that the connection could not be established with unknown reason. I then tried to backup my ROM and flash with a new one from the forum, and I failed and the SnapVue was dead. Then I found a tread in the forum telling me how to hard reset the SnapVue, and restored to the original state when I got the Shift. I thought it was really the original state, but this time the IntShrUI.exe worked! Vista is now connected with SnapVue and used it as an internet connection (later I did some registry work and the problem occured again, which forced me to hard reset my Shift again). However, the problem is that the connection is still restricted to local access only. I would guess that this is still my SIM card's fault, since it is for iPhone, and both AT&T and HTC people believed it won't work for desktop windows like Vista. I'm about to give up further exploring on this, and maybe I'll get a SIM card for laptop to have a try. Still, if anyone has any good solution for this, please reply to this thread. Any help will be appreciated.
Hi guys,
As you all no Wifi dropping is when your phone is connected to the router but not the internet, i.e. you can see the wifi symbol but webpage does not load.
I have got a suggestion: Turn your Laptop into a virtual Router using these softwares. This will work on pre-rooted phones also.
Connectify - http://www.connectify.me/
Paid service but the Lite version fully works on one phone. Havent tried to connect more than one.
Virtual Router - http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
Free and open Sourced. This worked perfectly on the first day, but when i put my PC on hibernate, its showing an error everytime I run it. Might work for you.
Maryfi - http://www.maryfi.com/
Free and ad-supported. Was too hard to setup. Iam going to try again some other time.
Note: All of the above works on my Windows 7 Laptop PC, not sure on Desktop PC or Mac.
Let me know here if it works for you. Add some more if I missed any.
