Hi all,
I'm neither a software developer nor an harcore techie, just a plain PPC user, but after crawling the web for days and nights I feel this forum is the only place where I can find an answer to my question. Admins, please forgive me if this is not the right spot and feel free to move my post to a most appropriate location.
I'm looking for a location-sensitive reminder & to-do list app for GPS-enabled cellphones; for example, you could drive nearby a drugstore and the device would remind you that you need to buy some particular medicine. Or, if you're near the video store, it can remind you of a movie you wanted to rent.
I know the concept exists and has been used by a student for his Ph.D, but AFAIK I never found anything similar. I really hope some of you experts have an answer to this.
Thanks a million in advance
If something like this could get programmed for a pocket pc it would probably be a gold mine. Currently not many ppc's have GPS built in but the number is growing quickly.

That could be a very good application. I also think it's not so difficult to implement.
Very good idea!

hey guys,
I'm trying to add some new friends from Facebook by my HD2, but I can't search any new friends!! ;(
However, it works on IPhone but why not windows phone.
Anyone know about these?
Let me know Please
Thank u in advance
anyone can help??
You've not given us enough information to help you.
How are you trying to add friends? How do you expect it to work, and in what way does it not?
Incidentally, silly comments like "it works on my iPhone" will get you nothing other than silly comments like "use your iPhone then".

Thanks John,
Well, i go to "Friends" Tag, and click "Search" then i input the person's name which i'm trying to search, however, there is no other results come out apart from the person which i have added.
But my friend show me on his IPhone, once he input the name and then click search, there are numbers of results come out even he didn't add.
Did i make it a bit clear now??
Very Sorry if i confuse you guys, because English is not my first language
I have had this problem before on my TP2, it will search for people in my friends but not people I do not know.
Never managed to get to the bottom of why this happens, Sorry.
As far as I'm aware, the search function is for searching within your friends, not for searching for new friends. I don't think you can do that with the application.
The application is not meant to be a replacement for the facebook website, but rather a sort of middleware app that gets information from the site for you, and allows you to do some minor updates.
You'll still need to use the main site to do lots of things.
If it helps, you can use http://m.facebook.com/ on the phone to get the mobile version, which is a lot lighter than the full version and doesn't use any ajax or flash (which would slow the browser down considerably!)
Hope this helps

If you take a close look at the HTC People application, you'll see that the information regarding a contact is diveded into two:
- first, you have the actions category, which let's you call a contact on any of his numbers, send him a message, show him on a map (considering you have an address - either home or work) etc.
- the you have the information category, which is a general category. information such as birthday and anniversary is shown here.
now, my question is: why is there absolutely no information regarding the company he is working for in the information tab, or at least somewhere under his name in the upper area of the window?
surely, HTC support suggested that I should buy an app from the Marketplace that will show this kind of information... Now really, can it be that hard to show the company name in the information category?
Do you know whether there is a way of selecting what information to show on the screen when I'm opening HTC People, in the Contact details tab?

Yes, I do. There is no way of doing this.
All you do is click "Edit contact" and it shows you more information, including company details.

Well, that's just not right! Why do I have to make extra clicks and taps in order to get a very relevant information like this?
Anyway, does anyone know if there's a way of showing the Company name in the details tab of HTC People?

I know you don't like it, but I've already told you that this can't be done. 1 extra click is hardly going to end your life!
These devices are designed with what the manufacturer believes to be the most commonly sought features as the most easily available. You simply want something that they did not think was as important as you do. There will also be things on the phone that you'll look at and think "what's that for - it's pointless", but to others it will be a very important feature. Just accept that it does not do this 1 tiny thing - it'll make the experience much more pleasurable
Hello everyone. I am a second year electronics student and am now working for my General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL). I am looking at having to memorize the answers to just under 700 questions. Its rather tough lol. The reason I am here is simple. I have searched and searched and have not found any software for my touch pro that will help me study for this test. I don't know how to write programs but I know that many of you out there do a phenomenal job. I am looking for someone that would write a program for me that would quiz me on all the questions for the GROL. In fact I believe that if one where interested in making a few dollars he or she could go all out and make a program that creates a full exam from the test question pool, then watches which ones the user gets wrong and makes sure to ask them more often. It would also be cool if a pop up window came up explaining the proper answer. I also think it would be nice to have a screen at the end showing results. I know at first this seams daunting but I do have software that came with my book that is close to this and could send you a copy. Also, the entire question pool is listed on the fcc website. It wont let me post the link here but if you contact me by email i can find it for you.
The GROL only requires sections 1 and 3. The only other program similar was marked at $40.00 and for the pc. Nothing has been found for the PPC where it makes the most sense. During random downtimes a person can do a few random questions here and there. I believe that if made to look nice with a nice touch style interface someone could post this to windows marketplace and sell it for $20.00 easily and make some nice cash on it. I would learn to program and do it myself if it weren't for the fact that I am in class now and need it ASAP.
Thanks in advance for all that entertain the thought of taking this on

It's not exactly what you said, but maybe you can use SuperMemo UX & SuperMemo Mobile. It's free software, but you will need to build your own course.

I know this is an older post. And I knkw what you mean, and are talking about. I am changing career fields into Avionics, and a classmate has an app for his (cry)Phone. But in the Google Play Store, they have some, but they are expensive for what it is ($19.99 and $12.99). I can't find anything except crApple. Absolutely no Android. I can't even find anything where someone ported the CD that is in the book over to Android and other platforms. I have coppied the files from the CD to a folder on my computer called "GROL." So I didn't have to have the CD in my computer the whole time. I'm going to graduate at the end of this month, and I only have Element 1 done. Partly its my own fault for waiting until now. But either way, I'll have 3 & 8 done. But it would be nice if I could take the studying with me when I have life going on and not by my computer. Lol
Android surpassed crApple, and yet we still get kicked to the curb.
I used to live in Denmark where the banks provide you with a coloured wallet card on which you write a load of numbers including your 4 digit pin however, only you know the location of the four numbers you need.
I have seen an iphone app or two that do the same thing:
http://www.mochasoft.dk/iphone_pin.htm
or
the HideYourPin app on this page http://bragoszewski.com/iphone/
Basically I would love to know if there is a similar app for the Android platform.
Regards
David P
If this isn't already available, if someone can make it (preferably like the top link in the post above) I would be eternally grateful and you never know, it could make you a few bucks on the market as well
Cheers
David P
I agree, that would be a nice app.
good idea... i think it's not very hard to implement... i will try it this weekend

Fabulous and thanks in advance for trying
did you get my PN last friday? i have a first version that needs to be tested, an translated to correct english
just seen the message and am grabbing it now. Will test and get back to you by tomorrow
Thanks again
David P
@troedi,
It looks great and I wouldn't even change the english within the instructions very much. I will send you via PM later on today any changes I think would be benefificial regarding the wording.
How difficult would it be to have multiple patterns? So you would start the program and then have a list of your saved PINS, one per pattern, and selecting the required PIN opens up the appropriate pattern for viewing or editing?
Regards
David P
An absolutely brilliant idea!
And, could you possibly make this an 'open' beta? I would love to start using this.
Thanks.

thanks for your comments! i think it isn't very difficult to manage more than one pattern. should be realisable in a few hours! as far as i can remeber i've coded the app well-structured enough.
@LukeHandle: i will send you a pn in the next minutes
Why didn't you post it here, so we can all be beta-testers and thus the app will be out sooner?
ok... you've convinced me
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2817943/Pin%20Code%20Keeper_beta.apk
Let me know when you have the multi pattern version up and i'll give that a test too and well done, looking great so far
David P
ok, gonna give it a try and post back
Any news on a multi pattern version of this app? I couldn't find fault with your help text so far hence not sent any PM with verbiage.
Looking forward to testing the latest version once it's ready
David P
the multi-pattern version is nearly complete, but there are little bugs when saving a pattern! but i can't spend much time on the app the next two days. I think the app will be ready for testing on friday evening!!
oooo nearly time for more testing
>>> Here it is <<<<
Enjoy testing my app and please tell mi if you think it's ready for the app market

Edit: download link removed -> use market to download. Look for "Pin Code Keeper"
Downloading and installing now
Thanks again and will feed back shortly
David P
Instructions are great.
2 things to mention though:
1. It wouldn't install over the top of the previous version even though it identified that it was an updated version so I had to uninstall the old and install the new.
2. Might I recommend that on each patter, net to the Pin Code Kepper in the title bar, you also add the pattern name given when a user edits the words "New Pattern" to something to better remind themselves?
So the title bar Might look like this (see attachment)
Kind Regards
David P
