Themes question - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Sorry for the newbish question guys, but I am used to having a custom rom installed, and since I now have a cmda TP2 I do not have the privilege of doing so as of yet.
My question is, do I have to have a custom rom installed in order to use custom themes, such as one installed by a .cab file? Or are there some out there that do not require a custom rom?
I have been reading for a while and have not really seen any post that say you can or can't install themes in a certain rom, and would like to know before I start messing with it. If I don't need a custom rom then what are some you would recommend.

Question about flashing roms

Hi,
I'm totally new to this thing called flashing roms i've read the faq and I still have some unanswered questions about it. If i download a new rom to my hermes, does that mean that i've added the "cooked" OS to my phone and it cant be removed and sooner or later i will run out of rom?

I dont quite get the question exactly but think of the ROMs as an alternate OS for your phone. You flash it onto your phone (make sure to read all the guides before doing this) and it replaces the previous one. If you dont like it you can download the original ROM from your providers website.
so the rom works just like a normal memory? whats the difference then?
here's a wealth of information on upgrades, questions, etc...enjoy

Why ROM Change?

Hello @ll.
I just arrived this Forum and I'm reading all the time that you changed your roms. My question is now why should i change my rom? Will my phone work faster and more comfortable? I have the HTC TouchHD.
Thank you and bye bye from Germany

This is a question that has been asked many times before in other threads. All you need to do is search.
However I'll answer your query this time.
Most people change there rom as they are not happy with the original roms userability, speed, etc and are curious at trying out other roms to see if this has improved as well due to their looks, additional apps, tweaks etc.
Also you cannot get wm6.5 without flashing to a cooked rom, and generally wm6.5 is more finger friendly.
If you read first few posts of each rom thread you will see what is on offer in each particular rom, and with latest roms, this should be significently different to your stock rom. Manila will also have changed as stock roms are generally using manila 1.3 or less while my current rom uses manila 2.1 which is greatly improved as it also has the additonal benefit of being landscape compatible.
Best advice would be to ask yourself what are you looking for on your current phone, and then ask, can my phone do this now. If not, search elsewhere to see if this can be done on another rom, then read flashing guide and flash to that particular rom.

Need a little Clarifiction

Hi all,
I was wondering for a while now, I followed the Unlckr guide on how to root my HTC Hero, but I didn't really get when the rooting stopped and the cooked ROM began.
So, breaking it down: -
What is the Cyanogen Recovery Image for? Is that just so we can enable the custom ROMs?
Putting in the new ROM, does that then mean my phone is then rooted? If I put in another Stock ROM (as I still haven't found a Donut update for Hero anywhere yet), will it be unrooted again?
What does Rooted mean anyway?
Many thanks if you can answer any or all these questions, I'm eager to know what I actually did
Take it no one knows or cares to clarify?
You might have better luck if you post this in the Q&A section. However, I reckon you'll find the answers you're looking for if you use the search.

Need some clarifications!

Hi, I need some clarifications as the topic says..
I want to install:
this
and
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 (btw, can someone give me a link to the download?)
I've installed SPB 3.5 before and therefore I know that it doesn't delete any old things like the standard HTC Topaz ROM. So SPB wasn't really a question, but I wonder how this HSPL works. I've read the guide but I don't get it, how does it work. Can someone explain more specific. I want to try out some ROM without deleting my custom ROM from HTC (WM 6.5 Pro).
Then, will the sms-layout work together with SPB 3.5?
And as it says in the install-description, you have to disable and enable stuff. And that will change my system.. so it doesn't feel right to install it before I have a backup on my phone - if something goes wrong.
So shortly, how do I backup my whole system (ROM, files, settings)? And how do I reinstall my backup? (don't forget to also explain how the HSPL works)
Thx for reply!

Hi,
You should use search. It really helps
" i want install ...this". So, what stopping you. Download, install, if dont like uninstall.
SPB MS3.5. SPB.com site or google.
HardSPL is changes the Bootloader so you can install a different ROM regardless if it's signed.
And you can not have 2 ROMs at the same time.
If you want try custom ROMs you will have to install Hard SPL. Without it you can upgrade only with HTC ROMs.
About dumping and rebuilding. Use wiki page about Topaz. Everything you need is there.
Good luck with flashing,

sry, but I can't find anything useful :S can't you give me some links, to backup stock rom and reinstall it?
when I watched the videoguides of XperiaX1 it was so simple... you could find your stock ROM in a sticky in your phones part of the forum. And also not just the stock rom for uk, but also a swedish stock rom. And when you downloaded that. You simply copied the file to your microSD root direction and went to the bootloader and poff you got the original ROM. So, plz get me some direct links to this

Info on all available stock ROMs is only a search away and then the flash procedure is as you mention. So you have all the details you need to experiment to your hearts content.
