Anyone have a ROM of WM2003 that works w/ T-mobile USA? I tried about 5 and no luck. XDA dev Rom works great and so does my old one, but can't find a 2003 rom that works. All either hang at the boot/welcome screen or don't boot.
--Mike
So far I have tried 3 different 2003 roms.
The first the "O2" rom loaded, but gave me some intermittent problems.
The second “For Testing Only” rom worked great. Only one small problem with Microsoft reader. I most likely wouldn’t have changed except that the new ROMkitchen got me more excited than it probably should have.
Now I am using the ROMkitchen version very happily….(same problem with the reader though)
Interesting because I tried the ROMkitchen version yesterday and got the same, hangs on welcome screen result. Did you do anything special other than put it on SD with XDArit? I have Wallaby 5.15 bootloader which I think is what the unit shipped with but from what I've read this is fine.
I'm just at a loss because I've tried most everything I can think of. Which file type did you select from the ROMkitchen? I grabbed the nb1. Should I try NBF? Does it matter what I put in the "header string" at the bottom of the ROMkitchen page? I noticed when I try to upgrade it says my device is PW10B1. Does that matter?
Maybe you can post or email me your ROM and I can try that today.
--Mike
I didn't use the SD card boot with the Kitchen rom version. I had the Kitchen create an .exe file and let it load through usb. I actually did it 2 times...and it worked both times. Just did it the second time after they fixed PocketMVP.
I will e-mail it to you if you want, but I think that you should try creating an .exe through the Kitchen first...since that is what I would e-mail anyway.

The Hang that you see may be caused by the simtoolkit loading on startup. Try removing the link in the windows startup folder. that may help
My fellow T-Mobile WM2003 users, I have been using all 3 versions successfuly with no freezups. There is a little trick that increases stability when on the US networks:
Go to your \Windows\StartUp\ directory and DELETE Ussd.lnk and STK.lnk.
These are autoconfiguration apps that work with European providers but do nothing for the T-Mobile network; so much so, that with the T-Mo original ROM these apps were not used at all.
When these apps run in T-Mo's (Cingular's) network here in Los Angeles area, I've even experienced random cold resets when switching cell sites.
Ok, sounds like that's the problem then, but how do I remove this from the startup if I can't get it to go past the welcome screen? Can I bould a ROM in the kitchen w/o these options? I only saw an option for where to "move" these apps and not an option to not have them installed at all.
--Mike
Sorry, the kitchen doesn't allow you to do that. If you know how, you can burn your own rom and exclude these items. Anyone know what ussd is for? As mentioned, i have deleted the toolkit link and have not had any problems, just curious as to what ussd is.

Now it does...
Check the new 'Remove 'stk.lnk' from Startup folder' option. If someone tells me what ussd is and why it's bad, I'll add it to the remove list for this option...
Tried the new ROM w/ stk.lnk
Ok, I tried the new ROM and still no luck. Tried it as both .exe and as a SD flash and get the same net result. System hangs after bringing up the radio stack version and OS version as well as the third number which is: G324e4.
This device flawlessly runs the 3.17 xda ROM as well as T-mobile 3.14 so I don't understand why it will not take any 2003 ROM successfully. Any more ideas?
USSD
Unstructured Supplementary Services Data
USSD is a means of transmitting information or instructions over a GSM network. USSD has some similarities with SMS since both use the GSM network's signaling path. Unlike SMS, USSD is not a store and forward service and is session-oriented such that when a user accesses a USSD service, a session is established and the radio connection stays open until the user, application, or time out releases it. This has more in common with Data than SMS. USSD text messages can be up to 182 characters in length.
STK is for SIM ToolKit - It should not cause any problems unless you have a really old SIM Card.
I think USSD is basicaly a thing for ie. GSM banking - it allows the network to send you binary SMSes deciphered by the SIM (when I login with my GSM key to a bank account, I receive a message with temporary password, it is not sent through ordinary SMS, but delivered to the SIM toolkit area which is protected by PIN)

xda-developers,
might be a stupid question but, i checked the command to remove stk.lnk from startup in (one of the reigstry hacks) and the command is the same as to add object. how do u remove it from startup, is it based on the file name. this one has rmobj extension.
thanks

The diagnostic menu access and settings on the nexus 1 sprint rom for eris have changed providing only network selection type and some pretty cool battery stats.
This menu before provide a managery of localized network settings and changes that are no longer there or accessible by the verizon diagnostic number. If anyone knows what files in the rom are directly related to this structure change in the rom please post it here because i have a feeling its tied to the mms issues everyone is having. Its pretty much the only thing thats apparant as a physical change on this rom.

Yes but if your using a legend Rom than its a gsm ROM, so I believe this is were the mms problem is coming in to play.

Yeah, we're just missing something tiny, its working sorta on my build but not up to real usability yet.
can you elaborate on how you kinda sorta got it to work? I've noticed when sending there is sometimes a spinning data connect looking thing at the top as well. If you have any heads up i'll look into it.
And the apns-conf, i cracked open a nexus 1 rom and ripped out the file and theres verizon wirelss carrier settings in it. No go with that either. So it has nothing to do with the apns file or the mmsmmc or whatever file some people have noticed.

Pulling the APK's from the Eris 2.1 rom and putting them in the legend build got inbound going and sometimes it'll send outbound. I've still not worked out whats the last issue with it though.
I tried pushing the stock Mms.apk and .odex from eris into /system/app running aloyisous 4.1 and now my phone is stuck in never ending boot up. any ideas for a quick fix or do i have to reflash?
Edit: Fixed with a flash without wiping.

does mms work this way? I tried doing that for building the rom and it stuck at hung at bootscreen then finally got through then FC 1000 times
i pushed the stock mms and had no change in results, none at all, even though its a different file size. See mms.apk is the text messaging app, not the config file. We need to look beyond the app, the apns confg and whatever else is out. Or we'd have figured it out.
You said you partially got it working where ti sometimes works. What exact files did you copy to sometimes get this too work because i've yet to have 1 file go through.
MMS never worked on the 1.6 ROMS (T-mobile based) made for the HTC Touch on Verizon and other networks, afaik they still don't have it working.
found another adb file inside of framework-res.apk under /res/xml
but even though it says verizons link inside instead of sprints still no go. But i did received a "cannot send message not found" error after doing it only on picture outgoing. Maybe thats a heads up of where to start? Maybe that file in combination with another inside the framework folder is the key too all this.
Try this:
Load up a normal 2.1 ROM that MMS works for.
Download APN Backup & Restore.
Use it, Backup APN's.
Load up your Sprint ROM.
Download and open APN Backup & Restore.
'Delete APN's'
'Restore APN's', and choose the APNs that you backed up from the normal 2.1 ROM.
Your APN's may be very close, but this will make them E-X-A-C-T.
I'd be curious to see if this will fix.
You should read the forums bro, we've be explicitely dealing with apn file versions with no effect. Pretty much the first thing all of us tried.

just curious, what personal info might be in this file ? any, or is just the generic VZW settings ??
you could email it, i think you can attach anything using the mail app off the sdcard but since I don't know what files it generates i'll just wait till im home. I think i can manage 4 hours of having to do work and not picture message.

I have the exact same issue. Down to even the same radio. Has this issue been resolved with the APN? I have no problem with data just MMS. I can neither send nor receive.
I tried:
wap.cingular alone and with the [email protected] CINGULAR1 username and password combination
proxy
ism.cingular
isp.cingular
I checked my girlfriends Samsung WinPhone 7 config on AT&T and it lists no APN settings at all yet MMS works without issue.
I am at a road block here and MMS is something I use for work almost daily. I would really hate o have to go back to WinMo 6.5.
Thanks for your time everyone,
Mike

Always use Connection Setup when setting after a hard reset or new flash. Do manual setup if no other work around. The new ROM's have a new database of carrier settings to automate connection setups.
Hi,
So I'm abroad right now with my unlocked sprint s4. I can use the sim card to call and sms without any problem, but I don't have access to data, eventhough my plan includes it!
also, when going to system update-->uicc unlock, it says:"mobile data not available"....what does it mean? How can I resolve it and define my apn settings???
This is so annoying for such an expensive device and a "world" one!
Please help....
Thanks!

My phone is rooted...the question is: do I have to flash a customized rom over the stock rom in order to gain access to this option? In the stock rom sprint/Samsung eliminated this option, you can't change the apn manually!
I'd really appreciate if you can help or if someone knows if a customized stock (also recommend which one is better) can get/let me access these apn settings.
Thanks!

Hi,
Had the exact same issue and got it fixed ..
here is how..
if your phone is already rooted..
open play store :
Download any APN database (i use HiAPN ) .. install
use titanium back up(PRO) to make that a system app.
if PRO version not available use root explorer to move the .apk to system/data..
Restart Phone.. SU will pop-up allow .. and Voila!!!
First post helping someone .. please do let me know how it goes ..
Thanks & cheer'S:good:

Hi,
I'm going to try it now, but didn't completely understand: Can I do it over the stock sprint rom? I prefer to leave it as is right now, and not add/replace with a customized rom...
Where do I find this apn database? Can I edit it with my local carrier apn settings?
Also, How do I use the titanium backup app to make the apn database to an app?
Isn't the HiAPN an app to begin with?
Also, Do you have the "sprint" s4 as well?
will this work with any apn tweaking program or database?
Thanks!

Hi,
1. I'm afraid to do a factory reset, as it will (most likely) cancel the "unlock" sprint done for us, won't it????
2. What is this USSD/MMI fix app.... just checked it, and it looks like some safety issue, not something that will allow/let me do a "speed dial" with a * before the number

Whats up guys. I have a rooted ATT H910 running the latest WETA rom (US996) on it. I bought a SIM in Japan and am trying to utilize it but am having issues. I've searched through the forums and elsewhere online but most of the hidden menu settings either don't work for me or are inaccessible. Inputting codes such as ##DATA# do not even work for me.
When my ATT SIM is used, I can access the APN settings. Adding a new APN works but when I swap the SIM it is no longer there. The SIM I am trying to use is COMST. Is the inability to modify the APN with the COMST SIM related to the rom I am using? And if so, can anyone recommend where I can edit the APN manually through a file? Thanks in advance!
Also, I tried using Offline SIM APN Database but it says no SIM detected. I am showing 2 to 3 bars of reception so I know the SIM is inserted and working.
