I have sling media running on my T-mobile TP2. Runs great but the screen does not go full screen to the whole entire screen. has anyone done anything or have sling media running on Touch pro 2?. my touch pro 2 is 800 x 480. the size on sling media is 320 x 240.
was wondering if anyone did anything to fix it. like a video resolution mod or something for the touch pro 2
fix resolution
I use WVGAFIX3 to swtich between resolutions for some sotware that dont resize. Search in the forums for it.
I have WVGAFIX3
But how would i use it with sling media?
I think we're stuck waiting on Sling to improve the capabilities of streaming via windows mobile. With the official launch of 6.5, there is a good chance they'll spit out something nice. The iPhone Slingplayer currently supports VGA resolution, but only over WiFi. Apple/AT&T have not allowed the app to connect over 3g.
It's never going to fill the entire screen, however, because the aspect ratio is different than your standard 16:9 or 4:3 (WVGA = 800x480 = 5:3). But you can bet that eventually, the Slingplayer for Windows Mobile will improve the max resolution in the not-too-distant future.
Fronc thank you for the reply
thank you for the reply.
You got it, bud. I'm with ya on the request!
i think it looks great. in landscape, it looks like it just doesnt go widescreen (like hd channels on my widescreen tv). so anyone out there considering getting a slingbox, have no worries, it works great!
find tthe non HD channels. they work better
I think it might have more to do with aspect ratio than res.
New Sling mobile ver 2.0
Hello,
FYI,
I was running version 1.6 of the sling mobile.. and I had the same issue as you.
Try the version 2.0 .. you will have the auto-fit ( full screen minus 4 rows at the top/botom for the ratio)
The version 2 have a nice touch friendly design . But it still QWvga(320x240)
I love it ...

I have been doing a loong research on the web without luck about this. This device has a good processor for gaming,
but the god damned screen resolution screws everything up having to scale the 320x240 graphics to 640x480.
It's not only the work of having to double every pixel on screen, but also to redraw 4 times the ammount of pixels that it was meant to.
The pixel rendering rate of this graphics chip can't handle 640x480 since it has no hardware acceleration for such a task.
I keep finding that Real VGA, 96DPI, 128DPI crap arround wich doesnt actually do anything but change the sizes of the fonts/enviroment
while rettaining the same 640x480 resolution.
I'm no developer, so im sending an s.o.s. call to any dev, technician or whoever with the knowlegde to tell me if there is a possible way
to switch the video resolution to REAL 320x240 or if its possible to hack this device video driver to use 320x240 instead of 640x480.
Thanks in advance for reading.
I just realiced that maybe there is no need to modify any drivers at all, since i believe this device ati graphics chip is used on other devices running at 320x240 from htc aswell. Can someone verify this please?.
Even if it was possible, real 320x240 would physically cover 320x240 px on your device and therefore leave the better area of the screen unused. I doubt that it is possible to output QVGA and stretch it to match the screen and I dare not even think about how crappy that would look... Apart from games everything runs nice and fast and the Universal is quite responsive. Videos can be played back just fine in 320x240 and run perfectly with a decent player. Which apps are causing trouble for you?
Im having a hard time with high requirement games, like Legacy 2, Raging thunder,XIII zeal, Ancient evil, *.swf flash files... not to mention demoscene intros for ppc.
About the 320x240 output, probably the lcd panel can scale it to 640x480 with its hardware just like a regular tft monitor. It wouldnt look bad at all, remember how games look. Yeah you can actually see the the pixels with pixel doubling, but even with pixel doubling it still looks good enough since the screen size isn't that big to have such a huge impact.
I still believe that if this is possible it's worth a try, atleast for users that use this device for entertainment and gaming.
This really seems like a neato computer, but I have some questions that need to be answered before I buy one:
1. Can I play Counter-strike 1.6/Condition Zero on it? What about Unreal Tournament 2004? What frame rates can I expect?
2. How responsive is the touch pad? I tried the touch pad on another laptop in a local store and it had very annoying input lag.
3. Do you think that 384 kbps would be enough to play CS 1.6 and UT2K4 online? I'm not completely sure if I can get my providers Turbo 3G service on to my sim card. Also, Shift only supports 3.6 and not 7.2 mbit right? Will a 7.2 mbit sim card work in it anyway?
4. Do you think it'd support my Trekstor DVB-T USB stick? The minimum requirement is for it is 800 mhz and DirectX 9 and I really don't like being right on the minimum. I'm guessing that I'm not going to get 800x480 fullscreen tv on it?
5. How good is it with movies and recorded TV shows? Avi, divx, mpeg, wmv etc, can it handle standard definition in full screen? Some quick examples would be avi at 576x320 and wmv at 640x480.
6. Is there any chance I could get a photo of the interpolated 1024x600 side-by-side with a photo of the native 800x480?
Thanks in advance
Do not count on a extreme gaming experience on the shift.
Counterstrike 1.6 might work, with low settings and WindowsXP installed.
Like Quake3 arena plays like a charm
MY cynergy XS USB DVB stick show full screen shows at perfect speed.
Computer is monotask during playing, using anything else will slow thinks to a crawl. But I watch TV shows on widescreen everyday. Main difficulty is to get the antenna to work...
For movies, you can play any size using coreplayer.
Unreal turnament can be palyed also with a reasonable frame rate. You will have to play on low resolution, and will have occasional lags. I suggest you look for another device for intense gaming.
I'm not looking for an extreme gaming experience on a device like this, just something besides surfing the Internet and watching videos, because I can do that just fine with my cellphone.
Was that Quake III Arena video real-time rendered on the Shift or was that just a video? I'm very suspicious because I don't see anything plugged in to the usb port and I don't see him using the touch pad.
Hasn't anyone tried playing CS 1.6/CZ? I don't think they'd be too demanding for the Shift with an 800 mhz processor as the recommended spec. Maybe even Counter-Strike: Source at the lowest settings? It has an 800 mhz minimum.
@thaihugo: The "using anything else" part makes me a bit worried since I'd like to use a card reader as well for the encrypted channels, because here in Sweden we only have one decent free tv channel. That's better than nothing I guess.
You mean UT2K4 right? I didn't see screenshots of it until today and I didn't realise that it had relatively good graphics since I assumed that it had far more primitive graphics than UT3. Definitely worth a try then. I just hope that you didn't mean UT99
Right now what I'm the most curious about is if I can play Counter-strike 1.6/CZ/Source on it, and how responsive the touch pad is. How noticeable is the delay on the touch pad? I don't expect it to be good enough for a twitch shooter but it'd be nice if it's quick and precise enough for surfing without using the touch screen to click on everything.
Shift is not that powerfull
if you are interested in gaming the everun note may be a choice for you. www.umpcportal.com has tested it a few days ago. But it has probably a less responsive touchscreen.
Thought id post this for those who are looking for a divx player.

CorePlayer still works faster on the Diamond.
How fast?
can i simply drop a regular ~700mb xvid/divx movie on the internal storage and play it in full screen(with dithering and smooth zooming enabled) without lag or frame dropping?
just wondering since i'm probably buying the diamond, and this could really be a deal breaker.

My friend I think you didn't try watching divx on Diamond...We can't watch divx even with core player. But this is possible on Omnia. So we are watching other programs ore codecs...
sorry but, have no problems watching dvix 700mb files on my diamond witch coreplayer

I'm sorry, but I have no problem watching 640x272 files on my Diamond with CP.
I have 2 diamonds and for a few days the omnia i900. I think nobody can see a full 700Mb movie on Diamond, without cuts. But on omnia is no problem at all. Omnia is much much faster than Diamond. I was thinking to buy one, but i will wait for the 480x800 version.

Omnia resolution screen is just 240 x 400 pixels
Diamond is real vga - 640 x 480 ...
so Omnia has less resolution with faster CPU ...
as result, u have BIG cut in the resolution with the Omnia..
Diamond is not for Multimedia. Is one of the slowest mobile that I`ve been testing so far. The only thing that can chage this is the release of Ati video Drivers from HTC and a new O.S (maybe windows mobile 6.5?). Until that, I recomend you to buy another phone with better multimedia support (iphone or nokia)
I downloaded DivX player from divx labs and installed it.
After that, I started downloading movies from the following site:
http://moviesmobile.net/
and now, I have aproximatly 10 movies installed on my phone, that I can watch with rather good quality, (not crisp)
So I think it's very well doable, but you shouldn't try to cram a 700 mb movie trough there.
also, I used core player once and it starts showing some weird deformations when I run a 700 mb movie on my diamond
The speed stays nice and stable, but the movie itself looks like crap.
Hope this helps
Err, that site only has 320xXXX resolution, awful lol.
"700MB divx" don't mean anything.
You have to look the bitrate of the video. The diamond with the last Core Player can handle videos (almost perfectly) with a bitrate <~ 550 (and a resolution under the 640x)
No problems with video at all. Make sure to tailor your videos to the Diamonds resolution, I use DVD Catalyst to switch up resolution, then DL to my phone. Typical 1 1/2 hour movie is around 550 to 650MB, I use size to denote quality although even a 550MB movie looks awesome on my Diamond.
Mind you, this is using the new Telus ROM
Whatever Telus did with the ROM upgrade, it turbocharged my media capabilities
by 700 mb I ment all comon .avi files cam,TS,DVDrips and so on you can find. Had no problem whatsoever.
Videos with a higher bitrate than 600~700 will have frame drop on the diamond.
Its hard to see them, especially if the movie don't have many actions scenes.
With a movie ~90mn/700MB, you have generally a ~800KBp, so no problem really, some frame drop, but it seem perfect.
But if you try a ~20mn/400MB or ~40mn/700MB (midle quality TV Show for example), the bitrate is most higher than 1000KBp and the video its almost unviewable...

I`m watching 700MB movies whitout problems, is very important what program was used when the movie was processed, there are some that hang some time. I watched movies that had 1500kb bitrate without problems, and the quality is great. Try the CorePlayer 1.3 is the best. I will always choose my Diamond over an Omnia .

well the Diamond uses a Qualcomm cpu which has a embeded ATI Imageon. Programs like coremedia player uses this to improve the performance, but windows mobile comes without drivers. So bassically your diamond is running windows mobile like a failsafe version of windows xp.
check this link http://www.mobilewave.ro/news/Performanta-grafica-a-lui-HTC-Diamond-Touch-Pro-259.html, there are a few videos about the bad Diamond´s graphic perfomance. Devices with one, two or even 3 years have better perfomance than diamond

thats very funny , a synthetic benchmark is very helpfull to see the true potencial of the device, but that doesn´t meen that you are using all of this power in a daily use. Just one example, try to play a video (H.264 at VGA (640×480) resolutions at 30 frames per second) in a diamond and then try a nokia n96. The nokia device plays the video smooth and without lag, the diamond video is laggy with frame lost, but ehy! you can run the benchmark on the diamond to feel better afther that.
htc performance post.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449391
I'm going to make the final decision on buying these... I rather choose both of this phone over iPhone.. The screen resolution is high and I love that !
Video playback & Youtube 60%
Call & Organizer 30%
Games 10%
I didn't care if it has qwerty keyboard or not. I did care a little on size of the screen but I really want the one that have the good video playback experience.
I saw many vid from youtube that the touch HD screen is kind of yellow.. I just wanna know that can I fix that sort of problem (well, it's a problem for me). I see that the X1 has the better contrat and more beautiful (as I see from youtube). I really like the 3.8 inches screen. Is there any color fix on the HD?
My HD doesn't have any yellowness with video playback .
Blacks and whites are both pure. I compared my HD video playback to a X1 and the HD wins handsout. Even if it's just the way bigger screen which is real comfortable with watching, it wins. And by having coreplayer you can just throw any divx movie at it and it'll play it without stuttering.
Performance wise there isn't a whole lot of difference though.
--Edit
To improve performance with video playback on your HD you should do some minor tweaks which will help alot, like the SD Tuneup tweak. Theres a thread on improving video playback and how you do it aswell.
I watch load of films on my HD and I have never noticed a problem with yellowness. Then again I have not seen the screen of the X1.

It's supposed to be installed on the internal memory (phone) which will then allow for faster file access on your card.

I have both an X1 and a HD, I just compared the 2 and the X1 has a slightly higher contrast. The HD still looks better then the X1 though cause of the screen size and is much more comfortable watching.
Too bad I don't have a camcorder otherwise I could post a comparison vid for you.

here this is what I mean.. It seem that the color and the contrast on the touch hd seem to be yellow. Look at the background when it is white on the iPhone.. I'm not sure about it, anyway thx about the replies : ) i don't know that it is like this or not

It's not as bad as it looks in that video. I only noticed that its not bright white yesterday when i had my Touch HD next to a Blackbetty 8900 and could see the blackberry was whiter. It's white but not as white as other phones, and certainly not yellow.
Looks to me more like the iPhone is too blue
o i c
guess i make a stupid thread haha
thx all replies
There is absolutely no yellowness issue you mention. The HD movie performance are just insane, better than any currently available device - it's just awesome. I watch a lot of movies on HD and I'm always blown away with the quality.
The fact that you can use just normal DIVX movies from torrents is also very cool.
Also, as for the contrast / brightness, I don't know if you guys are aware, but you can actually control the color adjustments in Core player, and some of those presets do produce a punchier video image, more saturated, deeper blacks etc. Beware that using custom color adjustments can have a negative impact on performance in some cases. So, if you experience lag, just turn it back to "native".
Also, you need to take into consideration whether your device has auto-adjust brightness turned on, because it's possible that is reducing the overall image brightness.

There's no color problem. I guess the problem you saw was related to the white balance of the video (or maybe it is your LCD monitor)?
Anyway, mine is fine. The 3.8" screen is amazing for videos and there are no color problems. You don't really get to run 800x480 vids, that's too big.. But even smaller, e.g. VGA quality films look terrific. Remember that it's higher than the resolution of a TV set.
As for games.. If you want games - BUY AN IPOD. The HD / X1 are both based on WM and they are no match for the IPOD.
Hope that helps you..

Sure you do. Use h264 in mp4, run in wmp or album, and you get acceleration. Looks great, and you can re-encode ntsc DVDs (720*480) in 1:1, so no loss of quality through scaling.
I get inspired every once in a while to convert some full length movies, and put them on whatever phone I have at the time. I have had mixed success (mixed failures?) and would like to see what people are doing that actually works!
I grabbed a couple of Blockbuster on Demand Movies (The two free ones that are offerred to HD2 Owners, plus a couple I paid for. They were formatted horribly, sounds was just acceptable, and like others, I was hoping for the kind of product that the Transformer conversions were. No such luck. Blockbuster, being A MOVIE RETAILER, does not deem information such as "Screen Format" or "Sound Encoding" to be important enough to share with us. The 4 films I have viewed were "Widescreen Format" but, since 800x640 is not 16:9, you end up with two very noticable black bands top & bottom of the screen. Try showing off your HD2, only to have some wiseass 8 year old comment "How come it doesn't fill the screen?" t seems like the wiseass 8 year old has a better sense of what's right than the wizards at Blockbuster (Using "Roxio Cinema Now" technology)
Okay, so much for delivering content to the "Hardest working Screen in the Business" Who then has a tried and true method for converting Ripped DVDs into our beautiful media device? I don't have the patience to try this and that ripper, this and that converter, get the demos, look at 5 minutes of video, or have a huge watermark all while NOT getting a nice conversion to begin with. What I dream of is a 2-3 step process, not a 8-10 step process, that I have to lord over the whole time. I would GLADLY pay for a properly done ripper/converter so I could simply watch a movie on this device that was made to do just that.
I also would like to know.
Have you thought of using TCPMP? (project is somewhere in this site) I just copy over movies (Xvid AVIs) and they play just fine.

this is the program that i use to put movies in my gadgets... I've put 10s movies in my htc hd2. try it, it has a very simple GUI, and the results is very nice too..
and just a little more detail, you can set up the resolutions output too so it will match the HD2 screen.
for the hd2, i converted my dvd to generic mp4.

Same here, using DVD Fab... It is FABulous to use.
i just use handbreak. it works really well. im currently using a profile i made that is bassicaly the iphone/ipodtouch preset with the resolution set to 800x48 for hi def and whatever the size is on lower def videos. i also have custom anamorphic which is set at
xxx = width if source file or 800 whichever is greater
800
800
i also have keep aspect ratio off.
on a test of the start trek blu ray i was able to full my screen with the people looking normal and not cutting anything off anything.
i have it on average bit rate of 640 with 2 pas and turbo 1st pass. with audio at 128. the movies look really good to me. Just for comparison the transformers movies weren't all that great looking on my pc at all. they look grainy and for that they are not really utilizing all the bandwidth they are consuming.
with these setting i am very happy of the video quality on my HD2 and the audio is also very good. I also didnt like the blockbuster offering. at these settings it is about 350mb per hour and thats including audio.
To make it with my same exact setting all you need to do is select the iPhone/iPod touch presert, make the resolution say 800x480 or whatever the max is allowed, just dont pass 800 x 480. the anamorphic is set to custom with
800
800
800.
look at the screen shot.
Good luck
Well as noted above, I had been using Handbrake, but my ripping mates have come up with a program that already had the HTC HD2 in mind.
A freeware coverter with an actual preset specific for the HTC HD2 and it works just fine my friends.
The proggy is called: Xmedia Recode 2.2.3.2
http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloads_counter.php?programid=47942
Choose HTC model.
Choose the HD2
Choose your video prefs.
Much love.
