Re: new ROM issues
Have a the Hero on TMo USA and it was working great before the update. I applied the new ROM and it doesn't let me choose any new APN after I enter and save the new setting for TMo than the default.
Am I doing something wrong?
You can still edit existing APNs to your chosen settings. I have no idea why it is not possible to add a "selectable" new APN.

Type "default" in the "APN type" field.
Thanks! That seems to do it.
So much for HTC Help.
Cool
From what iv read, Android accepts only 2 values in that field - "default" and "mms" (or it can be left blank).
With the original ROM, leaving it blank didn't seem to affect our ability to select that APN. However, with the 2.73 ROM, it must be set.
Thank you for this info. I was trying to make it work for the last hour.

Hi,
Im using Cyanogen's 3.4 ROM with Hero Theme 1.3.5 and can not for the life of me figure out how MMS is supposed to work simultaneously with data/internet.
I have 2 separate access points configured on the phone, one for the internet and one for MMS.
If i create an MMS whilst the internet APN has the green radio button next to it checked it will not send. However if i go into the APN settings in the phone and check the radio button next to MMS i can send and receive it with no problems but can no longer browse the internet over GPRS / 3G
there is no settings in messages to tell the application which APN to use and it appears that in its current state, the phone is not smart enough to swap over temporarily to the correct APN and then swap back, it has to manually be done.
Is anyone else having this problem or is there something i am missing to get the phone using both APN's at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
Try setting the apn type to "mms" for the MMS one. The checkbox will dissapear, sa that might mean you can no longer manually select it, since it will be selected automatically
Ok i tried that and your right, it did remove the check box. but it didn't fix the problem unfortunately. just for good measure i changed my internet APN to have the APN type and that didnt work. so i removed it, left the MMS APN with the APN type of MMS, powercycled and tried again, still didnt work
Got any other ideas? is anyone able to replicate it? Cheers
You could try to use "default" for the Internet apn type, along with "mms" for the mms one. Other than that.. try searching the internet for the settings.
I've noticed since using custom roms I keep loosing my APN settings.
I'm using G1 in Poland, with polish GSM network ERA and I've latest Cyanogen's ROM and since there is no polish APN settings in that I must edit this manually.
If I edit APNs first, just for start to give only basic information it's fine but if I edit it further (add proxy etc.) sometimes after save I'm loosing everything (also the MMS settings).
Yesterday everything was fine, I had APN for networking and for MMSes and I played outside with GPS and MyTracks and after returning home I found all APNs were gone.
What to do to fix it?
I tried to adb push apns-conf.xml from polish ROM but phone is not using it. Backup for Root software copies the apns-conf.xml I've in /system/etc but this is not what I define in Settings/Wireless controls/Mobile networks/Access Point Names :|
Little help, please.
I have the same problem. (running the ION)
The APNs completely disappear sometimes. The phone keeps working as if they're still there, but the list is empty.
Rebooting fixes the problem (until the next time they disappear).
Same here, rooted a few friends g1's (putting ion r2 onto the phone). Started adding the apn's, hit save, blank screen. Wait a few minutes, try again... sometimes the settings "stick" but most of the time, I just get a blank apn list.
Any fix would be more than welcome.
i believe this is an ION problem
i never had such problem before using ION and now that I've switched to cyanogen builds,
i never have a problem with apn again
Hi there. I have set up a new access point (in an attempt to get some Facebook connection) and although it allows me to create a new profile, it doesn't then give me the option to select it - there is no tick box or button push even though the new profile is now in the list. I have just upgraded my ROM from the HTC site and am unbranded although using Voda in the UK.
Many thanks for your help, in advance.
I found the same as you, it does seem different to the old ROM. I changed the active Vodafone settings to the wap APN, logged off and on and this worked for me.

I feel its not selectable anymore as its automatic.
I may be wrong though.
Type "default" in the "APN type" field.
I wrote to HTC help and this is what their reponse. I am using the Hero on TMo US.
"I would first recommend that you perform a simple soft reset, which can be done by removing the battery and replacing it to restart your phone. Once that has been done see if you are able to switch APN setting, if you are not then I would recommend that you attempt to re-flash the operating system to your phone. Once the operating system or ROM has been re-flashed to your phone then I would recommend that you attempt to re-setup and connect to the T-Mobile US APN, if it doesn’t work, please attempt to use another SIM card. If all of this does not work can you please contact us back and inform us of this so we can look into further troubleshooting."
i just changed the telkila settings since it was set as the default apn.
yeah, all you should need is 'default' set as the APN type, and then if you have more than one of those, the selection thing usually appears.
any you have set as 'mms' will not be selectable.
Hi There,
Sorry if it's been answered but thread searches yielded only similar but not
definitive answers.
I'm running American Cyanogen 7 ROM April 10 version on my HD2.
Everything works perfectly except for the fact that I need to switch between MMS APN and Internet APN when I want to do either task.
I seldom send MMS' but would like to know whether I'm doing something wrong or is it just something we have to live with?
eg. I've got my data connection on, running the internet. If I want to send an MMS at that time, I then need to enter settings and change my APN to Optus MMS.
note: Once again, nothing wrong with my APN settings individually but wondering if I've missed a step where they both work in tandom?
Thanks in advance,
zee
Look at "apn type"
In the data one, it should be "default, supl " or perhaps "*" or maybe just "default"
It should not say mms in there.
Now in the mms one,(and the prob is likely to be here since you shouldn't be able to select an mms apn manually) it should ONLY say "mms"
When you change it to just say mms, the radio button showing it is selected should vanish.
now the phone will know to use one for data and one for mms automatically.
Thanks a million samsamuel!
I've switch to a new carrier and they do not support my LG Quantum. The phone and text works perfectly, but I was told I need to change the APN settings in order to get the 3G to work. I've searched, but unable to find how to change my APN.
*EDIT:
I have resolved my problem. I used the MFG app to change the APN, but the thing that gave me trouble was the carrier provided me with the wrong APN settings. After entering the correct APN setting it was like the flood gates opened and my phone came alive with several alerts!
APN
可以去SYSTEM/ETC中找到apn.conf..里面是apn接入点设置。。。
There is also a specialized app for this kind of stuff named "Network Setup". It is available in the "LG Apps store".
It will make most of the setup for the selected operator.
