Problem with Standard Ringtones on HERO - Hero, G2 Touch General

Can anyone else confirm that their Standard Ringtones (1 to 4), don't actually ring like a phone, they don't have a pause between them like any normal phone, i.e. Instead of "Ring Ring..............Ring Ring" it's "Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring"
Is this a bug or just me?

It's like that on mine too. It's quite irritating and seems like your phone is saying "PICK ME UP NOW! HURRY UP! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!"
I guess the only way round it is to get hold of the sound file and manually add some silence onto the end.

Assingning A Button To Do This

Hi,
I like to use my own MP3 ringtones for incoming text message, They are quite long (40-50 seconds) so that I don't miss them if I am not next to my phone but How do I stop it from ringing as it always plays to the end, would like to assing a buton same as when you get incoming call just to end it...
Cheers
JAY
If you just click the End Call button while it's ringing from an incoming call, the phone should immediately forward the caller to your voice mail, and end the ringing.
Have you tried pressing the End Call button while the text message ring is going? You might be able to kill the ring that way, without doing anything unwanted like inadvertently deleting a message.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply but I have tried this, still does not stop the ringtone, I have tried to see if I can assign a button to do what I'm after but have not come up with anything, I know people will say just make a shorter length ringtone for my incoming text message but I prefer the longer length...
Do you think there would be a registry hack or maybe 3rd party software for this...
Cheers

It may be possible to write a mortscript that will stop any active ringing, and from there it's an easy step to create a soft button that does what you want using, for example, rlToday, or using Smartskey to place a secondary action on an existing hardware button (Press=original action, press+hold=new action), but you still have the problem of finding the activity that is the ringing, and creating a shortcut that will reverse that condition. It's over my head, I'm afraid.
Smartskey is definitely the tool to add a key function. Mortscripts is probably the easiest option you have for making a "program" that cuts a ringtone short, but it's probably not the only solution.
I'm afraid the SMS tone is played from some system process, so you can't just "kill" it with e.g. MortScript (except maybe if you don't care to get any further messages until a soft reset...). I think there's only a chance to cut it off if another app does the job. Maybe phoneAlarm does offer something like it.
MortRing in theory would be able, too, if "internal playback" is checked and the system's signal is turned off, but so far it hasn't any means to get a "stop it!" signal. And it only supports WAV...

Didn't mean to throw you under the bus, so to speak, but hey, I'm a fan of your work. Glad you could drop by, Mort!
i just use the volume slider to switch off the ringer. I do it even if I want to ignore a call without hanging up.

Why Won't My G1 Vibrate When I Get A Text?

Whenever I put my g1 on vibrate and then get a text the phone doesn't vibrate. is this happening to anybody else
I am getting this issue to, but it is intermittent. I am also having an issue with different ring tones playing. Every call rings a different ring tone, even from the same person. It is very strange!
open messenging --> menu --> setting --> tick vibrate
text message do not share the same setting in ringtone
Try to install rings extended in marketplace and set again~

just wondering are you in a text message when it does this? I noticed that it doesn't tell me I have a new text message from the same person if I am on the thread screen of their text messages... if that makes sense

If you are in the conversation screen with "sammy" it wont notify you unless you back out of it and you're in a different area, window.
It makes sense to me why they do it.
I don't like that feature though.

Yea thats what I was trying to say LOL... I agree I wish we could disable the feature... but then again just turning on the screen seems to work now that the app is out.
I recieved two OTA updates, the first one fixed this issue for me.
The noise goes off, but the notification clears and the light doesn't blink still. Oh well, it's progress at least.
mine will stop in the middle of the day, just pull the battery out and place it back in, and it will work again
updating to the RC30 update, mine is fixed, now they do

I have RC30 and I still have this issue. Hopefully they work this out because im a heavy texter.
Hi I just registered with this site to see if I can help you. I had this problem all day tday n couldn't get a fix. I tried everythin except hard reset which I wasn't wiilling to do. My vibrate now works, what I did was this. I have the 'timed profiles' app, I timed it to make silent go off in 1 minute n then my sms vibrate function started working agen. This is a big problem with the g1 but this fixed it for me hopefully permanently! Hope it helps

Tweaks (i think)

Well i have the Telus version of the HTC Touch Diamond. And sadly enough it does not have a light sensor (for some stupid reason). So i was wondering if somone could make/find a tweak that could make it so when you aare in a call the screen would not become useless but you just have to put a bit more pressure than you would normally. Because my cheek always touched the end button and it pisses me off. So you would just have to push a little harder to press the end button.
Also i dont like how you cant use ringtones as SMS/TXT sounds. Well you can but it just plays till the ringtone is over. I was wondering if there is a way that you can make it so when you recieve an SMS/TXT than you all you have to do is either tap the screen wthout anything happening from pressing it(unless you press the message tab), or to touch the center button (cause its touch sensetive) also without anything happening.
anyone??
the second one is just a sugestion
the 1st is a request please

Pretty sure he wants to stop the ringtone manually. As opposed to letting it play a full song of 3mins.
Dude, use the MP3 trimmer and trim an MP3 down and set that as your SMS tone. Thus no more verses and choruses, only a portion of the song.
To stop the sms ringtone, you can press the call end button, but it switch you to the home page if your doing anything on the phone.
Yes Dickenz
Thats what i want but i used the trimmer but i always use the main chorus of a song
and thats to long eveytime i get a txt
So i can just press the end button?

Ring AND vibrate on the X1

Hi Guys
Another basic question here. I can see how I can set the phone to ring, how to set it to vibrate, and how to make it be totally silent. My question is, can you make the phone ring AND vibrate for an incoming call? When I select ring in the control panel, it makes the vibrate option vanish. Please tell me this is possible!
Regards,
Andrew
In Settings/Personal/Sounds & Notifications you hit the notifications tab at the bottom.
Under 'Event', choose "Phone: Incoming call"
Under 'Type', choose "Vibrate and ring" or "Vibrate then ring"
You can also do all this in Settings/Personal/Phone.. first tab..
I reccomend exploring your phone before asking something like this. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but you could have found this extreamly easily just by looking at all the options you can choose from in the settings window/list.
Thank you very much v1rone. Don't worry, no offense taken.
I have been looking for this feature for a while now and didn't post as a first resort. This phone is just so different from my last one (SE P990) that it's taking me a while to get to grips with it. I had seen that screen before, but for some reason, I didn't notice that middle drop down and saw vibrate as a tick box for all the other things in the top drop down so I assumed it wasn't possible for phone calls.
Anyway, it's all sorted now, thank you very much for your guidance.
BTW, when clicking on the "notifications" tab at the bottom, it takes ages for the tab to come up. This has only been since I upgraded to the new R2 firmware. On the older R1 firmware, it still took a while, but not nearly as long as it does now. Just thought I'd mention it.
Yeah, mine does the same thing when trying to get into that tab. Not sure what the deal is there.
I haven't flashed any of the new R2 roms yet. It's possible that the R2 versions have more files in the windows folder, causing this application to take longer when seeking out all the settings it needs to display it's window. Not sure..
I have absolutely zero evidence to backup this statement seeing that I haven't peeked into the updated rom files yet, but who knows
Sounds plausible
on another note, any way to make the X1i ring and vibrate in a sane manner . . . the vibration is sort of insane lol
anyone know of any app/program to control this?
thanks

Low & Delayed Ringing

Thanks for starting the segment. Just bought OMNIA II 8GB in India and the problem is when a call comes it is initially very low and the goes up and this cannot be changed through the usual routes. Also the ring itself starts after 3 rings at the callers end. Any help is appreciated.
BTW, Its WM 6.1. Wm 6.5 is not yet available.

This is a Samusung WM specialty (or they call it feature). The first 3 secs are always "subdued". It happens with all Samsung WM. Nothing can be done to change it. You just have to learn to get used to it. Look on the bright side, when you're in an office setting, you can usually pickup the call before it gets bursting.

Should have left the choice to the user. Guess, they must have recvd complaints but have successfully resisted all efforts at correcting themselves. Nice surprise in addition to the half assed UI called touchwiz or whatever. Tks anyway

Yes, agreed with you that they should leave that as an option for user. About the Touchwiz, well , most Omnia 2 users just dont use that. it's memory hogging and doesnt allow creating shortcuts for many programs.
I would say MAJORITY of Omnia 2 users opt for the Spb Mobile Shell instead.
You should really testdrive it yourself, and you will be delightfully surprised how well it integrates and how much smoother the whole i8000 experience is.
i agree that the ring should have been optional. but personally i like it. it saves me from suddenly jerking in surprise when my phone is on top of a table.
being easily irrated, i like the "soft" warning before it gets loud.

I did try the Shell. But what stopped me was the very rudimentary contact program. i have a large database and I absolutely need a t9 search on every field in the contact list which is not there in Shell if I am not mistaken.
Though for some reason Samsung killed the threading of sms, one feature of this touchwiz I find useful though is the search in sms. Guess as a heavy cell user, over the years, I have developed some specific likes & dislikes. Like I absolutely need to see the future appointments on the today screen & launch particular program from today. etc..

Agreed. But its peculiar. It rings softly first. Then it just vibrates (if u hv vibrate on) but no rings (??? crazy or what ???), then the ringing becomes louder. The whole process takes 5-7 seconds. Now, if u miss these (u can if u r busy or a little distance away from the cell), by the time u hear the louder ring and go to pick up the phone, the caller may go away. It is happening with me.
a solution
to prevent the delay in getting the initial ring, I advice to stop the lock screen from setting/ display and light/ lock screen
then make the device wake up with the lock button only
setting/general settings/ button/wake up/ lock button only
regarding the initial low ring tone, still no solution

Go into your sound settings (Settings -> Sound Settings -> Ring) and check the alert type. Sounds like you have "Vibrate then ring" selected. If you select "Vibrate and ring", it'll function a little bit smoother.

don't think this has anything to do with locks. Any way mine is set as u hv said. Considering yr suggestion & the another here and that my settings are exactly as u both hv suggested, cud it b that samsung has made such a mess that certain issues are machine specific ? Wudn't that b just great!!!

Its already set that way. I think I may have overeacted with initial missing 3 rings. I think I missed it due to some network issue. Thanks anyway.
No fix for 3sec low ring till now..
I just increased the first 3 seconds of my ringtone.. good workaround..

He means you can use "Audio Editor" program on PC to increase the volumn of the first 3 seconds of your ringone.
I actually do have (on Verizon i920) a delay of 3-4 rings (at the callers end) before my phone rings or vibrates. I think I have a bad phone as no one else seems to have this issue.
