G1,apps2sd,wiping problem - G1 General

SO here is the situation. I had my phone set up with cyanogenMOD and had just set up apps2sd. I thought Apps2sd was not running and I realized I had not partitioned the sd card the way I wanted to. I wiped the sd card repartitioned and reformatted. WHen I booted the phone all the apps on my home page were busted( gears for icons). I'm guessing that apps2sd was actually working and I just erased all my apps. Anyway I wiped the phone, reformatted the sd to 1 fat32 partition and downgraded to rc29, in order to just setup my phone from scratch. Now when I boot the phone many of the apps I had before will not install , they download and then i get an installation unsuccessful error. Oddly enough it seems to only happen to apps that i had on my phone when I messed up apps2sd.
Any thoughts on the problem. I would like too wipe and start over, but that doesn't get rid of the problem.
Is there a lower level wipe that can be done besides the factory reset?
\thanks

Did you reroot your phone. Once you load RC29 on again you loose root. Just to let you know, when you have problems like this you don't have to go back to RC29 again.

I did reroot the phone

And also, forgot to mention that after this i tried loading cyanogenMod again and it gets stuck in a loop when it boots and eventually goes to a grey screen.

Did you repartition your card again. And did you wipe (alt + w) before you loaded your rom.

I returned my card to 1 fat32 partition, and yes I did wipe.

Did you create an ext partition for your apps2sd?

no ...I wiped the phone, returned it to stock. No need for the partition. I just cannot install certain applications or the cyanogen rom

Infinite Loop

Hey all, first off, sorry if this is the wrong forum. If it is could one of the mods please move it.
OK, here's my issue. I had CyanogenMods latest build, 3.4 I think and decided to try The Dudes cupcake 1.RC1. I forgot to do a wipe before installing TheDudesCupcake but when my phone came up it worked ALMOST fine. Had a crash here and there of something, not sure what, but the phone still worked fine. Today, I had an issue with a video (is the SD Card) not being viewable with "Video Player" so I decided to remove the card and pop it back (hoping this would somehow refresh the player). Didnt unmount it so I got the error about i may loose data without unmounting. (i'd done it before without a problem). Well this time around my card was corrupted so I ended up formatting with the phone. tried going into settings to view the size of the drive not since I didnt know if the whole card was wiped or only the FAT32 partition. Kept getting an error while trying to go into settings so I decided to reboot. After reboot I was able to get into settings and saw the whole card was wiped (back to full 8GB of empty space). Thought I would wipe right there from settings since I was getting an error or 2 after reboots and since I had gotten that error when trying to get into settings and then updating back into Dudes Cupcake. (thought the wipe would get rid of any issues of going between Cyanogen to Dudes Cupcake). Once I clicked on wipe and android reboots, it's trying to do something but just keeps rebooting. I've got Cyanogens restore image v1.2 on. So I see the G1 logo, then comes up
Build CyanogenMod v1.2 + JF
Formatting DATA ....
and at the Formatting DATA part it does the reboot and goes back to the G1 logo and comes back to formatting data and reboot.
I tried doing a HOME + POWER but it just goes back to formatting data. I tried doing a CAMERA + POWER but it goes back to formatting DATA.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks and sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give all my steps.

when it says formatting data then done, are you pressing and holding home and back or just pressing and releasing. when the phone is powering on and you hold the home and back keys it will do a hard reset just like a wipe(same thing) or since there is no data to lose any more, try pulling the battery, this will not do any harm as you are not flashing anything
since you have the cyanogen recovery image you should have gone into the console at recovery and typed
fix_permissions.sh or sh fix_permissions.sh
Thanks for the response tubaking. My problem was that it didnt say done. right when the "Formatting Data...." line came up, it reboots, without saying done. And I couldnt get into the Home+Power or the Camera + power screens. Neither one would go there, just back into "Formatting Data:..." screen. After reading half way through the Brick thread I saw someone mention pulling the SIM card out, didnt think that would help but it finally dropped me back into the recovery console. Might I ask why something as simple as removing the SIM drops the loop and takes you to recovery?
thanks.

Is phone gone bad or the whole file system corrupted?

Hi
I have no idea but there is something wrong with my phone.
About phone – HTC Hero, rooted, MCR 3.2, apps2SD working, 8GB sdcard, partitions – SWAP-0, ext3-512, rest fat32, recovery img - recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
I have nearly 80 apps installed, some Utilities, some system apps like uninstaller, Titanium etc and rest all games for kids.
Yesterday night phone battery was almost discharged so I put it on charge, forgot to remove it when fully charged, so removed it today morning when I woke up.
A friend called, though phone was on ringing mode it didn’t ring but just vibrated – surprised.
Just after that phone got lagging problem, whatever you do, there is a long delay, got irritated so switched off & back on the phone. It then went in the loop at start of the android screen where 2 pops up with sound, it just remained in the loop.
Couldnt get out of it, so removed the battery, tried again and it booted after long delay but it was as fresh as just installing the MCR 3.2, none of my installed applications were there. All my apps were missing.
So I thought to do Nandroid restore which I took couple of days ago with EXT data.
Booted in recover, wiped Ext-partition, Dalvic-cache, and the system data. Put it in USB mode, copied Radio ROM ver - 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 and Nandroid Restore files.
Then first I restored nandroid backup, booted the phone, out of surprise, few applications were missing which were there at the time of backup.
I installed radio rom and still the apps remained missing...
Again I went into recovering mode, wiped everything again, ext partition, dalvic-cache & system data, installed nandroid restore, booted the phone, and this time some different applications were missing which were there in previous try.
I assume nandroid should restore everything properly but then why the applications keeps missing everytime,
I have this problem since I tried Villain ROM just for trying it out.
What is the solution, I m just scared to reboot the phone if anytime required because it gives me a feeling that after reboot I will miss many applications.
This problem is very unusual, is phone gone bad or its OS or anything else???
Please help.
Thanks
u may need to format ur sd card and then do a nandroid restore. If not just redownload the apps your missing
I always format SDcard, then copy the nandroid backup to it but prob still exists.. and redownloading apps all the time is not going to work out because as soon as I reboot the phone, apps starts missing...
Did you remember to wipe ext partition? you didnt mention it
Yes m8 I did wipe everything, ext3 partition, even dalvic-cache & the system data as well before doing nandroid restore...

[Q] SD Partition problem

I decided to partition my SD card today because i needed more space for my apps. I used ROM Manager to do the work. Everything went fine until it booted up. Now I'm stuck on the HTC screen. I read that the boot takes a while but I've been waiting for over an hour. I've also tried to pull the battery out and restart but I'm still stuck on that same screen. Anyone know how to fix this?
I do have this problem. I have to remove the SD card in order to boot successfully and reformat it to FAT32.
what rom you use?
I used to flash whitetigerdk v0.4 and got that problem but now I downgrade to v0.3 and problem's gone

[Q] Help - trying to root, now I'm stuck

Sorry if this is a long post...I'm going to try to provide as much information as possible.
I got a brand new nook with version1.3 for my son for Christmas. I'm wanting to root it so I can put some games and stuff on it. I tried following the instructions for the ManualNooter (using ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.8), but think I goofed up by not booting to the nook between the two MN files. When I tried to boot to the nook it just looped on the "nook color" screen.
I went back and tried installing just the first MN fine and booting the nook, but I got the same result.
I then found the two file for reverting to stock I ran both update-nc-stock-1.3-keepcwm and update-nc-stock-1.3 in that order (I'm assuming that there is no boot required in between) and am still stuck on that same nook screen.
I've also done tried to do some stuff like formating the syste, data, and cache, and clearing the Dalvik cache. I've noticed that I'm getting an error formating the data (not sure exactly when this started), and clearing the Dalvik cache causes it to lock up.
I'm not sure where to go at this point, and am concerned that I've hosed up my son's present. I know it's hard to brick a nook, but those issues with formatting data and clearing the Dalvik cache have me worried. Can anyone help me in getting this thing up and running (then hopefully rooted)?
quick question.....do you have the bootable sd card with cwm on it? can you boot to the cwm menu (i'm assuming you can since you said you formatted system, data and cache). what happens when you try to install cm7?
I'm going to show my ignorance here and say I'm not sure. I don't THINK so, since all I intended to do was root, I just followed the instructions to give me the recovery card. Unless maybe it's on there and I'm not don't realize it.
All that said, I think I'm back off the ledge now. I found this linked from another board: http://nookdevs.com/NookColor/RestoreToStock, and the 8 fialed boots method got me back to stock, so I think I'm okay (as long as I can get it rooted).

Encryption Issue

My phone is hung up on the "Encrypting SD Card" process. Selecting encrypt or decrypt in the settings does nothing and the SD card is currently unmounted because of it.
This has happened once before but went back to normal after I applied the update that came out last month. Just ended up being great timing. Any ideas on what I can do get the card to remount? I don't want to reformat the card because I know this is fixable but I need to know how to clear the cache or reset the encryption task, or whatever the update did that let it get back to normal. Once this is fixed, the card will be decrypted and it will stay that way. The encryption process does not seem to be all that stable at this point.
Thanks in advance!
