Touchflo contact thumbnail photos - Poor quality - Touch HD General

I have seached, read the wiki and stickies and followed some leads from old threads to no avail. So...
I have installed a couple of photo editing programs including Resco photo viewer (then edited, resaved to phone), and I have tried the old trick of setting the contact image to a contact via the touchflo interface, rather than the old contacts program.
All result in poor quality images. Its the only thing letting down the phone at the moment. Like most on here, I change my ROM more often than my underwear. This means I am heavily reliant on Outlook and Activesync. So on my PC I have set my contact pictures in outlook, and they transfer over with the rest of the data.
In the past, if these were low res images I would have a contacts folder on my storage card and would manually reassign the images through Touchflo - making them hi-res again. This no longer seems to work.
Either my images stored in my Outlook pst file are low res (if so, how do I change this), or the phone is compressing the images.
I know this has been an issue since Touchflo began, but I cannot find a good workaround for 2.6.

Assign contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts for hi-res thumbnails. If you assign contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on your phone will be low-res.

As above Rick, I have tried this method but it doesnt seem to be working for me this time. Perhaps its an issue specific to this ROM (energy 2.5).

My Pictures - Default To Storage Card?

When I open the My Pictures app in WM5, is there a way to make it default to the folder on my storage card, instead of the My Pictures on internal memory?
I am having the same problem.
Pictures save onto my storage card, but the viewer does not default to display pictures from there. Also frustrating is that I click the pull-down location chooser and choose Storage Card but it does not take effect unless I pick another location first -- it just ignores my click.
I have found that My Pictures & Video stores registry entries of folder locations for both internal & storage card, and have tried making them both on the storage card, to no avail.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem?
It is indeed a problem for those of us who store our photos & video on the storage card, as I cannot use the nice feature "Play screensaver when connected to my PC and idle for 2 minutes"
No one knows a way around this problem? Surely there must be a reg edit or something that could do the trick?
Still looking for a solution to this!
Can anyone figure this out? It is quite annoying having to use the stylus every time to re-naviage to my picture folder...

Don't think there is a fix for this - tried various registry tweaks with no joy - I think the default directory is hard coded into the picture viewer software.
I use Xnview pocket as my default viewer and its much better and faster than the default one and you can change directory to where ever you want. & its free http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12698
I've read lots of good things about XnView...but one question: does it have WM5 soft key controls? I though it didn't but haven't used it myself.
I've tried lots of pic apps (Resco, SplashPhoto, PictPocket LE) but either they are not WM5 compatible (Resco) have annyoing menus (Splash) or don't have a resize option for emailing (PicktPocket).
I'm trying to avoid using the stylus.
The default pic applicaton in WM5 is slow as hell but I like the simple editing controls, basic soft key functions (could be better, like selecting directory) and how it resizes any pics for emailing.
If I could find something that did all of that I'd be happy!

Xnview does not have soft key control but i find its speed more than makes up for this. It does not have direct email control but can resize the image to what ever size you need and many other image manipulations. It is also able to capture screens - and its zooming is better than the default one, plus you can have a slideshow with mp3 music.

No file association for pictures

Hi, I just discovered that there is no association for any of my pictures, including those on my storage card. Does anyone know how this happened, and can this be fixed without a hard re-set?
Thanks!

Try in file explorer going to one of the photo files and then clicking on the menu button and then on open path and then put in the path box windows\start menu\programs\ pictures and videos and see if that doesn't associate the files with pics and vids again. I remember having to do that sound files before once in WM 2003 and it only took one file to associate with it to associate all them again. Hopefully that's all it will take in WM5 or WM6, whichever you're using.
Just an afterthought, did you try running pics and vids and see if it wouldn't just find those files and associate them with it?

I ran pictures and videos, and was able to view the pictures in my pictures main memory, my pics, storage card, but the pictures still had the white icon with the windows logo in the center. I could not view by tapping directly on the picture. Any how after aggravation, I did a hard re-set that I didn't want to do. I saw open new path, but didn't know what to put in for the path. Now I know thanks to you if it ever happens again.
Thank You!

No problem. That kind of problem doesn't seem to happen very often, so hopefully you won't have to do that again. If it does though, it may be caused by software that you have installed.

As a matter of fact, I installed XN viewer for photos, and with all the options that were available, I must've some how associated the viewer with my pictures, and when I removed the program, I removed the default association as well. Live and Learn!

Is there anyway to hide an album(folder) from HTC album?

I'd like to set "all" as the favorite album in the TF3D photo tab so it just displays all the photos I've taken (I have about 100 pics separated by folder under \storage card\pictures\) The problem is when I do that it puts other pics like the icon's for Angelusz's landscape fix at the top of the thumbs list.
Is there a way to either hide certain album's(folder's) from HTC Album's view, or a way to make it only look at the storage card and not at the phone itself?
if you get an answer.... please repost!!!!
having same issue.
looking to not show in the 'albums' section a specific folder that has images in it.
and in the same token, making these (same) pics not be available through the 'see-all' feature.
trying to not have 'accidental' display of pics no need to make them "hidden-files" because then one wouldn't be able to view them when needing to.
can there be a limit set to the viewer and how 'deep' it searches for images? maybe they can be placed in a series of sub-folders that are so many deep, that the viewer does not look for....?
yeah this is a big problem if you have tomtom because it loads all of those pics

The simplest solution is to change the properties to hiddend for the image files you do not want to see in the tab.
There is also a reg patch to exclude particular folders but i dont know the details

If anyone has more information on this reg patch, I'd like to know more.
Also as Angelusz pointed out to me in another thread the HTCAlbum doesn't search the windows directory, so I've been dumping wallpapers ect. in there whenever I can. The big downside to this is the amount of time it takes the X1 to load the windows directory, especially when your trying out several wallpapers.
Key
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
(if ignored doesn't exist: create it)
Make a new String Value and give it any name
example: igo
set the Data for the new value to the full path of the folder to be ignored
example: \Storage Card\iGO8
(note: all sub-folders will be ignored as well)

Great, thanks for the tip!

Excellent, thanks.
Thanks for the info! But there is an issue
Hello -
i tried your suggestion, but it didn't quite work.
i have the HTC fuze -
i created a folder in the storage card called ddd, then went to the registry and followed your suggestion, but when i go to the camera, and select the soft-key for albums, there are some options called "all" and "camera shots" that still reveal the contents of the whole phone. and the folders that contain the images that are to be kept away from accidental viewing, are already located on that folder 'ddd' on the storage card. how do i delete the "all"/"camera shots" feature form the album viewer, or better yet, how do i keep some pictures from coming up in their individual folders in the same viewer.
sorry to be a pest, but if there's anywhere else to get good info on this matter...it'd be here.
thanks for the help!!
works for me, thanks

Contacts pics - TD2 vs. Outlook 2007

Hi all,
I noticed that if I add a pic to a contact in Outlook 2007 I get a failry low res image on the TD2. However, if I add an image directly on the TD2 I get a fantastic resolution image on the TD2 which also seems to transfer to Outlook.
So, for the best quality pics use the TD2 it seems. However, this is annoying as all my images are on my PC. Is there a way to bump the quality in Outlook to the same as the TD2 - it can obviously handle it as it shows the images from the TD2 entered contacts great.
Ideas???
R
Had the same problem on my TD1, but haven't found a solution yet. I'm looking into it and will let you know if I find a solution.
EDIT: Seems like this is a Outlook problem..... http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP100137791033.aspx
is it not resolved yet??
note: it is not low quality. That's the problem, it's high quality and the phone tries to show everything and pixels go one over the other.
I just think so, but as a reason, I owned a SE K750i and copied a 2MB photo on it. When I tried to look at it, it would be pixelite and when zoomed, it looked okay.
Just a guess . And i know Topaz is no SE, but still ...
The solution is to import the pictures on the phone and not in Outlook and also not update the photo's in Outlook. Always from the device. Its an Microsoft Outlook issue since ever.
When you reinstall your phone and sync it you get also the good pictures, but not when you edit the contact picture in outlook
yes. That is the solution
Me too discover the problem adding the contact picture directly in Outlook.
So I did different test and, of course, it's better add pictures directly from the TF3d contact manager.
But, if the picture is too big, you get a selection square box for choose the face area, and many times the face is still bigger the area.
So I found that, at least for me, the best way is to edit the pictures on the PC to get a final jpeg file of 266x266 pixel to be choosen in TF3d contact manager.
Just use the zoom scroller to resize the box
R
dho!
I tried to resize the square box directly on the corner and on the edge....
And the solution is so simple...the ZoomBar !!
Thanks !
P.S. I tried, the box doesn't change the size, it is the image that zoom so you can center the contact's face !
It's so much simple than my way.
I usually use high quality crops of 250x250p and both Outlook and Manila display them pretty well.
The problem is with resizing mechanisms and their side effects. If you provide high quality image, then you minimize resizing impacts.

HTC album sorts pictures in wrong sequence

If i open picture files in a directory via file explorer these pictures are often sorted in the wrong sequence. e.g. I have a folder containing picture files 01.jpg to 20.jpg and I open file 01.jpg the next pic should be 02.jpg in htc album (changing pics by sliding over the display in one direction, sliding in the other direction sould habe no effect...). The thing is the pictures appear by sliding in both directions and pictures are sorted wrong.
Has anyone a fix for that?
I thought this was related to the MyPhone service......as it happens after a new ROM/restore for me
Well, htc album is sorting the pictures by date and there is still no way to change this with a tweak, because this setting seems to be within the album .exe. I bought resco photo manager to escape this problem, maybe not the best solution but better than nothing.
Time has passed - did anyone find an answer to this problem?
regards
+1
This problem is really annoying. Hope someone can help
this great app can be very useful for you. it changes the default name to "img" to the date of the picture. at least for me, this makes my pics more organized. here's the link:

Update file times using this script to achieve the correct ordering
As mentioned above, the HTC Album application is hard-coded to show the files in each album (i.e. folder) in descending order of the modification date-time.
So my solution is to simply update the date-time of each file so that the date-times strictly descend as the filename ascends. To do that, I use this attached script (I can't take the credit - it is not mine but can't find the place I discovered it).
First, make sure the filenames of the photos are in the correct alphbetical order in each folder on the PC - this is easy if you use a sequential numeric suffix on each file (e.g. Holiday-001.jpg, Holiday-002.jpg etc). Then copy the script file into the folder with the photos and run it. It will set the modified date-time of the first photo in alphabetical order to be the current time, and then for each subsequent file set the date-time to one minute less. Cleverly, the script can also do this for any sub-folders if you want it to. Then all you have to do is copy the updated files to the device or storage card.
Of course, if you care about preserving files names or modifcation dates, take a copy of the photos first and use these copies rather than the originals.
