problems installing tomtom6 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I picked up tomtom 6 off ebay and want to install it on my wizard(original WM5 rom). Of course I've run into a few snags.
first I'm running off a macbook, using missing sync. usually I have no problems with the setup.
I installed Tomtom HOME on my computer, plugged the wizard in and nothing. It can't find it. I tried using an SD card, and get the same results.
I've tried coping ttn_ppc.cab file off the CD rom to the SD card and I get errors on the PDA when I tried to install it.
So somewhere I've got software that isn't communicating with each other. Any ideas how to work around this?

install TTN5.21 from SD card?

Does anyone know a way to install tomtom 5.21 straight from sd card on wm5, without having to install via my PC/activeysnc?
I can do it on my xda2i by just extracting the cab from the 5.21 exe file and putting that in the 2577 folder on the sd card. Works great, so if I get a device lockup and have to hard reset, I'm not going to get caught out and have to trek home for my PC just to reinstall tomtom. I just insert the SD card and everything installs itself. Sweeeeet.
But try the same on the wizard (and I guess any other wm5 device) and the install fails. I'm guessing its just a tomtom thing as their site does say you can only install using activesync. But thats so lame. It would be great if someone has found a workaround?
Install 5.1 first onto the SD card using the howto (and test). Then install 5.2. Move the new files that 5.2 CABs insist on putting in main memory (in /Program Files/Navigator, /Contacts Navigation, /TomTom) to the corresponding directories on the SD card (Note that the directory names are slightly different - keep the 5.1 names).
I've not had to test 5.2 yet, but 5.1 seems to work OK running purely from SD after a hard reset (i.e. with nothing installed to the PPC). The only thing I had to do was recreate the shortcut in the Start Menu. You might not be so lucky with the Contacts integration, but I don't use any of that.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
I've got around it by just copying across the ttn.cab file from the 5.21 exe onto the main memory of wizard and running it from there. This 1 cab file seems to install everything that the 4 cab files installed in 5.0 and 5.1.
It would still be nice if it would install straight from sd card, but at least now I don't have to install from my PC anymore - which was the main problem.

Tomtom 5 install keeps crashing.

I'm using an Orange M3100 and a windows xp laptop running active sync 4.2.
The install works fine up until it tells you what it's going to install. Click next and it always crashing. I've tried on another laptop and get the same result. Even tried a mates navigator 3 and that does the same too.
Am I mising something here, since everyone else installs it fine :?
Make sure it is version 5.21, I think earlier versions are not compatible with WM5.
I get the same problem with my v1605. It is 5.21 but it does the same.
I had no problems on mine, it's 5.21 with spanish maps... have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58539
My disk isn't the right version so I can't install anything from it. I've grabbed the 5.21 pach and that install's fine and i've manually installed all the cabs that I need (I think), my main problem now is the maps. I've not got a memory card yet so where's the best place to put them. Running the cabs just dumps the files in the same directory and tom tom wont find them that way.
Here is my experience with Tomtom. The maps are just copied to the sd card on the root folder with some name like. Germany-Map or Australia-Map. Tomtom only recognises any directory with a -Map ending in the folder. You can just add nice pov by just copying the files to the appropriate directory. If you want to save space in your main memory copy the tomtom executable to the TomTom directory on the sd card and most imortantly to have tomtom running is to have the currentmap.dat file in your My Documents/TomTom directory. Voices can be copid to the VOICES directory on the sd card. Hope this helps some people.

USB Tether

Has anyone gotten their USB Tethering to work? Every time it try to use it, it keeps telling me the driver was not installed properly. I've tried to google for the driver, but come up empty handed
Thanks for your help!
Make sure you install the HTC Sync software that is included on the Evo's SD Card. It should work after that.
Doke! I deleted it when I formatted my sd card. Aye. Would you have a copy of it? Thanks
Go to HTC website and search for HTC Sync. The latest version should be 2.0.33.

is HTC Sync needed to root Aria?

I could swear I read message(s) that said HTC Sync is from the devil and that if installed it must be removed...and now I see message that states explicitly that HTC Sync should be downloaded and installed
Which is it?
I installed it and then uninstalled it after rooting. Have you tried the adb commands after installing Android SDK to see if it recognizes your device? If that doesnt work then you might need to install the HTC sync for the drivers, you can always uninstall it afterwards after youre successfully rooted to proceed.
./adb devices sees it just fine once usb is detected
just can't get the device to show when pressing power from HDBOOT and RECOVERY
tried both linux kubuntu and xp pro
My issue with that, and with htc sync installed, was with my sd card. I tried a different 2gb sd card and formatted it with my pc using an external reader, then I put the sd card back into the device, tried again and it recognized it. I had to reformat the sd card externally a few times when trying.
I am really confused by all this droid stuff. I was just getting the hang of win mobile 6.1 when my tilt went on full tilt and crapped out on me. I got the Aria, and I want to root it but I just don't get it. Do I install that SDK thing on my PC or on my phone's SD card? If I change SD cards, will it stil be rooted?

Click to collapse
you install SDK onto something like C:\android, by default the folder is called something else when unzipped into C:\
once you've rooted, changing SD card will not un-root your roots
Thanks for the tip, I finally got that SDK tools thing to appear the right way, even got the pdanet thing hooked up. Now to see if I can actually do this root thingy.
The driver is a little bit tricky . what i do was boot the phone as normal then plug it into the computer so it will recognize the phone then i boot into the recovery.
if i don't do that. the computer will not recognize my phone when it is in the recovery mode. i did change the driver around and play with it.
yeah the drivers are always tricky lol

Problems with USB-Connection and SD Card in Android

Hello,
i have installed the Android Rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777
Installation worked fine, no problems at all.
Android runs, better then WM, but i have 2 problems:
1.Android shows up a message that my MICRO SD card is damaged, and that i need to format, which i did, but the message still appears. I tried to format the card on my pc, but Win7 tells me that the format can not be finished due to unknown problems.....seems that a few other android users have the same problems with their SD Cards.....any ideas or solutions to this problem?
The card worked fine till Android installation......
2.I canĀ“t establish an USB Connection with Android an WIN 7.
I have downloaded and installed HTC Sync(for all Android phones), when I plug in the phone, Android shows the usb connection icon, and Win 7 installs all needed drivers(firsttime), but HTC-Sync says: no device connected.
Any ideas?
Did you do a full format of the SD card, and not just a quick format?
If you did, and it didn't help, try using a different piece of software to format, like this...
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3
There's loads of 3rd party formatting apps that are better than the native Windows one.
As for HTC Sync, you can't use that with a ROM that doesn't have HTC Sense on it. Why do you want to connect to your PC, or is it just to use HTC Sync? If it's just for that then I'm afraid you have to forget about it and try and find alternative solutions. What do you want from HTC Sync?
