File Explorer in Windows 6.5 - Touch HD General

Apologies if this issue has been dealt with before. I tried searching but couldn't find anything on this topic.
Is there an application which mimics the function of file explorer in Windows 6.5
I've noticed that in 6.5:
1) You are not able to view the full file name of certain files if they exceed a certain length. Meaning you can't change the column size.
2) Copy and paste is really hard because you are unable to select a non selected region.
I much preferred the File Explorer in Windows Mobile 6.1 compared to 6.5 for above reasons. I was hoping there's a application out there which i can use to browse my files in Windows 6.5.
This could be just a related issue to my ROM.. I'm using Energy ROM Manila 2.1 Aug 30th release (Standard)
If someone can enlighten me then that would be greatly appreciated

Try Resco Explorer... really good and you can unhide hidden files, files with known extensions (.DLL, etc) and system files.
Also it's designed for finger use and ALOT easier to use.
Oh and you can expand the column width...

http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/
Ignore the screenshots as it looks significantly better on the HD

Omg, Thank you soo much!! I thought there was no app out there which would solve the problem.
Thanks guys
[Edit] Resco explorer works a treat, and I would recommend anyone who is having the same problem as me. Much better alternative to windows mobile File explorer. [/Edit]

I played Game Infinite Dreams Sky Force in O2 Mini and ASUS P525, It's work and smooth. But when I played in HTC Touch Dual (Niki), the graph will not smooth (seems like memory is not enough).
Anybody have idea to handle this problem ??? Thanks
its the driver problem.

After porting touch driver from Dopod S600 to touch dual, this problem will be solved. I can play it very well using the touch screen on my touch dual now.
please elaborate on how to do it Id love to solve this problem also!
you need to cook the rom your self.using the oem\oemdrivers\touch from S600 rom that I post here.
have you sent this to htcclaasaction.org? Theyve been trying to solve this problem for a long time.
Is rom the only solution? Cant i just copy the file or instal a cab? Im still a noob at flashinr ROMs :-(
That is a driver issue. I don't think it's a good idea to fix this issue using cab.
I attached the touch driver files here. You can cook and G'reloc your rom using this driver.

You don`t need to cook enything, and you dont`t need to flash your device.
Here my instrutions. If you will follow them it will be 100% safe for your p5500.
1. Make Backup of your system. I recomend you to use spb backup v2.0.
2. Install Resco File Explorer. (Not all versions can overwrite rom files, i used v6.10)
3. Go to the options and make all files visible. Also make Resco File Explorer to remember last folder (you will need these if something will go wrong)
4. Copy files from archive in any place on your device.
5. Install install_cert.cab
6. Install SDKSamplePrivDeveloper.cer like CAB file.
7. Copy touch.dll over ROM file to \windows\ folder .
8. Browse to \windows\ folder and close Resco Explorer.
9. Make Softreset
10. Be Happy!
if somting will go wrong, your touch screen will not response. In these case you need run Resco Explorer using a hard keys. It will open \windows\ folder for you. Find Touch.dll and remove it! It will restore original file! Make Softreset.
PS: Sorry for my English Good Luck!
Wonderful
Just tried to install the new driver with your instructions. Works great. I tested it with NFS, with the original driver it was unplayable because steering is made via touchscreen and so graphics went very slow. But now, simply great. Much thanks!
I found you~
Thanks dude! previously the screen would lag if i keep on touching the screen, i.e. playing SkyForce. But after the fix, seems that now the screen is smooth.

Great!! I'm a noob on cooking and gave up trying cook me a swedish rom months ago, this worked great. It's a joy using internet explorer and opera now, I'm truly fuzzed!
The whole device seems nippier also, but I dunno, might be the buzz from the smooth scrolling in IE that makes me see stuff that isn't there

I use Resco File Explorer (not freeware) to copy and overwrite files. Had no issues. Though it costs, it is a must have program. Has a great registry edit that comes along with the purchase.

[REF][TUT] Improve program launch times - UPX Squeezer BATCH

this is an old trick that was/is used for older devices to fit WinMo 6 on them
but a side effect is faster application load times
i figured i'd try it on the Blackstone and difference is noticeable
HTCAlbum loads in about 1 Second, before it took about 4
so i'm sharing this with anyone who is interested
The batch file is kept as simple as possible for everyone's ease of use
but this is pretty advanced tweaking, so all common warnings apply
and/or
if you are not comfortable with getting files from/to your PocketPC
and/or
can't figure out how to extract this zip and read the "read me.txt"
and/or
don't know what “any key” is DO NOT TRY THIS!
(read the forum and the wiki a bit more, and you'll gain the knowledge)
Version History:
v 1.0 - initial release
v 1.1 - no icon compression switch added to the batch, for more general compatibility
v alt - here geistteufel has released a new branch of the batch file,
this version uses a different method for packing files and may achieve better compression.
At the same time problems have been reported in the past with this method so all usual warnings apply.
a short list of EXEs that i have UPXed and work well for me

KeePassPPC.exe
kinoma.exe

s2v.exe
StreamingPlayer.exe

YouTube.exe
and here is a list of things NOT to compress
manila.exe
cprog.exe
thumbCal.exe
calculator.exe
wt5jetpr.exe
any DLL
Please share your findings so that others can benefit from it
(SEARCH this thread for your application name or EXE filename)
note: you'll have to repeat this proses after upgrading your applications
big thanks to;
edhaas - for the original simple to use batch file More info in this THREAD
UPX Team - a lot of technical info on the Website
kwbr - for a great ROM
and especially XDA-DEVELOPERS as a whole
Wow!
Thank you for sharing this. This also works great for S2U2. I noticed a difference in loading times. Also applied to this to iGO.exe and a few other .exe's
Thanks again for posting this.
Looks like hdtweak.exe and fdotfreds taskmanger have this done already.
Thanks for your explanations, everything worked fine till I had to copy files to Windows directory: access denied. What must I do to be able to copy files to WD?
Thanks and kind regards,
very very good! I try with commManager, yota contact, opera 9, resco explorer 2008 .....there is a time reduction in all! best performance in yota contacts from 5 seconds to 1 second
If this works so well I wonder why Microsoft doesn't implement it?
upx also works for large dll files!

for that you'll need something along the lines of total commander
i wish we could do this with manilia.exe but i tried and failed, it doesnt load, so had to restor it
I'm also having problem removing protection from some of the files :/
I tried to change properties via Resco Explorer, but without succes. As soon as I remove "Read only" attribute and click "Done", the attribute restores itself and I can't overwrite the new files.
I managed to update Yota; GoogleMaps, Nimbuzz and Opera - all load with visible speed improvement.
Tried Total Commander but can't get it to see my phone
It isnt working on the diamond saber. Icontacts and Yota center went well
WAUWW!!! my TomTom is now really fast!!
Thanks for sharing this app.

some files maybe in memory (used by your phone)
a trick to try is
connect with ActiveSync to the phone
browse into windows folder
rename the file you will be replacing (ex. HTCAlbum.exe to HTCAlbum.old.exe)
copy the UPXed version
restart device and test
if everything works delete the ".old." file

Sir.B, can you please share info on how to remove attributes from System files? Tried through Resco File Explorer, but no effect - still can't overwrite old files, always having errors :/
Wow. This is great!
TomTom V7.450 From 6 down to 3 sec to splash screen!
I wonder if it would be possible to do this to all the exe and dll before cooking.
PocketPlayer also works. But most startup time is the drive scanning.
Google Maps also works, but it started up fast anyway. (also the 2 largest dll worked)
gpsVP works, but was already subsecond.
CommManager.exe worked, was a little faster
AdobeReaderLE worked but despite being a huge program, loaded fast to begin with.
PowerPoint worked but also despite being a huge program, loaded fast to begin with.
CorePlayer reports 'Already compressed'
G-Alarm reports '.net not (yet) supported), except for 2 dll's, they worked.

to replace all EXE & DLL files would be quite an undertaking
because it's such a trial and error process (manila.exe and mode9.dll don't like to be UPX-ed, maybe many more)
and benifits are only noticeble for the largest of files
never hurts to talk with your chefs

No matter what software I tried, I just can't get to replace the protected system files.
I tried Resco, I removed the attributes but they're back as soon as I click "Done".
I also tried your described method, but clicking on "rename" in Windows Explorer via ActiveSync - nothing happens. The files seem to be permanently locked

Actually, I have been searching all over forums, but none of the methods described worked for me. Most recommend using Resco or Total Commander, both of which don't work for me. All of the files that have "ROM" attribute simply refuse to be modified in any way.
Thats right. You cannot modify ROM files. You cannot even copy ROM files. You'd have to dump the ROM to PC, which is not trivial. Best to only use this on post-installed programs that are not in ROM.
Interesting: Coreplayer gives me an "already packed by UPX"
Seems they learned this trick before.....

windows folder not visible in Resco Explorer

If so, how can i do it?

Armenian language (and may be others) support

After a few hours of research, I found the way to make this "machine" display Armenian fonts.
In "Windows" folder of the phone there is a tahoma.ttf font which is~144kb, while in Windows 7 this font file is 632kb, gotcha!
So just copy the tahoma.ttf font from windows 7 fonts to "Windows" directory of your phone, replaceing the old 144kb with new 632kb one.
Do the same for tahomabd.ttf font.
Soft reset, and you can enjoy your phone with a more complete language support (this affects mailing, messaging, internet browsing... etc.)
I suppose this will give support of several other languages too.
p.s. you may need "resco file explorer" to replace the fonts.
I have been looking around for the Armenian Fonts since long time now,I will do what you have recommended and will report back later, just hope will not have to hard reset my phone, since with Windows directory you just cannot fool around.!!

Not working here, what I did is the following:
On my laptops W7 found the tahoma file in the Windows Font folder there were to files in it ,one tahoma.ttf 681kb the other tahomabd.ttf 632kb,I copied them both to my Pnones Windows directory with Resco explorer, reset,Twice!!.
No Armenian fonts on any website is displayed, also sent an SMS in Armenian from my wifes Iphone, just the same, square caracters,no fonts displayed.
Did I do anything wrong?
Ok just discovered that those two files on my HD2 Windows directory are not being overwritten no matter waht I do,Im using Resco Explorer.
BTW.the files on my phone are 299 and 277kb respectively.
Anyway,Thanks for the help.

Hi everyone, thanks for the tips, but I tried mine doesn't work. I found two Windows folders in my phone, one in the phone directory, and the other one in the storage card, I replaced the tahoma things with the ones you said to overwrite, and after a soft reset it doesn't work, it doesn't display Armenian fonts in web sites, please let me know what to do.
Thanks in advance
Guys also I am asking you to help me with another issue that has got me in trouble for several months now and I can't find a solution. I need the GPS maps for Georgia, Tbilisi, and I have autorputnik on my HD2, the maps work great for Yerevan, but no maps for Tbilisi. I have tried to install Garmin or TomTom but cannot do that. Can you help me with this? What GPS software are you using?
Cant help you with the GPS thing but for the Armenian fonts Just copy your 2 TAHOMABD.TTF & TAHOMA.TTF files with Resco Explorer to the Windows folder of your HD2 and reset, after that go back to the Windows folder on your phone find the 2 old TAhOMA files and delete them, you will know the old ones since they are smaller files in size, something like 260KB vs 680 for the new, and will have $ signes at their end.
Just dont forget to Unhide the files in Resco explorer>
:Menu>Options>general>Browser>and remove all the checks, leave the boxes blanck.
Good Luck,
Hagop
EDIT:Make sure you chose the Windows folder in your device and NOT the windows folder on the Storage Card.
