Format Ext2 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

How do I format my Ext 2 partition with the rav1.2.1g recovery? Also if I do format it will that erase the applications I have on there? I've noticed a lot of the developers say to format your ext2/3 partition, do a wipe, and then flash the ROM. Thanks.

I think he removed the console because without the keyboard it's useless on the Magic. I use my G1 (running Cyanogen Recovery 1.4) or the computer to format the card. Hopefully he will make an option to format the ext2/ext3 partition in the next release.

there should be a option in the recovery that says format sd. then select convert ext2 to ext3. any yes it will completely erase your sd.

i think theres an issue with 8gb cards with this as i just cant get my 8gb to work yet the 4gb works with no issuess hopefully he can update maybe to give u the option on the size of card your using

App2SD - cyanogen

not sure if this has been answered yet as I don't think I can search in this app, but is there a way to enable app2sd on cyanogen 5.0.5.3?
Yes, under applications.
it's greyed out for me.

...probably not. I'm assuming if it isn't there isn't an easy way to do so and keep my data?. .. or is there? .
Use recovery 1.7 cyanogen version to make a ext2 partition then upgrade it from ext2 to ext3 to ext4. Mount your sd card and back it up before wiping it.
1 Install recovery 1.7 cyanogen
2 Boot into recovery
3 select patition sd card option
4 select partition sd
5 choose 0 for swap 1 to 2 gigs for ext2 and the rest will be fat32.
5 once that is done go back into patition sd card options and select ext2 to ext3 then after thats done select ext3 to ext4.
Hope this helps

Cyanogen did not write this recovery tool; Amon_RA created a CM-based theme for it as it was heavily requested. He also added in support for Soyars' Apps2SD implementation (what you are giving a how-to for).
You actually do not need to change ext types for this to work. For testing purposes, I left it as the stock ext partition type created by 1.7 and apps2sd works beautifully.

I never said it was made by Cyanogen. I know Amon_RA made it.
edit: deleted content, not important.
how can you revert the partition on the sd card?
i want to have the full space on my sd card just as it came from stock.

So that didn't seem to work.
I tried without the updating of ext3 and ext4 and no dice.
I finally SEEMED to have gotten it to work. I did the partition of:
SWAP 0
EXT2 2048
REMAINDER
Anyways, I did this WITHOUT the ext3 and ext4 updates. When I went into the OS, the App2SD is enabled and the SD card mounts fine.
Hopefully this will continue to work. Any1 know what the problems are without updating to ext4?

A REALLY EASY WAY TO PARTITION YOUR MEMORY CARD IS AS FOLLOWS...
back-up your card
download Clockwork Recovery MOD from the market
buy the pro version because this guy is a genius*
+you might have to in order to partition idk
click partition memory card (something like that)
i clicked 512MB then 256MB for the second option.
works amazingly

Do you have a linux distro handy?
if so, you can use Gparted to create the partitions. You might need a microSD adapter though, as it seems to have trouble finding the mount point if it is in the phone.

[Q] Clockwork...DesireHD...NAND...Ext4-SD? Arrrr

OK, not that much of a noob (or at least dont think I am!) have been playing with android for some time, and have decided to cook up my own rom based on DesireHD. After some failures I now have a good stockish rom that I like and will release once i can sort out a few problems that I have.
I want to go down the CWM .zip route so I can release updates easily, off to the forums I went with a few questions... hours and hours of searching and researching and a few test runs later... have even more questions!!!!
1. EuroHD2 (Leo512) has 512mb ROM > how much of that ROM is actually available?
2a. When does the kernel load the SD-Ext partition?
2b. With CMW Recovery do you have to set a "userdata" partition when using SD-Ext data, or can you get away with not setting one?
3. Does CMW support using SD-Ext userdata
4. Is the 400m CMW Recovery only for the Leo1024?
5. What is the maximum size for the "system" partition on Leo512?
6. What is with all the questions??????
As you can see, many questions. Most have come from searching the forums and becoming more and more confused with it all!!
Please help!

All of it.
Partitions:
misc 1MB
recovery 5MB
boot 5MB
system 150MB to 350MB
cache (optional, but people like 10MB)
userdata (whatever that remains, 350MB system partition size = 50mb userdata)

yes, sadly, you still need the userdata partition, you can go around it by creating another partition on the SD card, and call it userdata, I am assuming that works too. So now your SD has userdata, sd-ext, fat32 partitions.

urm, that's not CMW's job, that's your job.
You can either use DATA2EXT method which puts all userdata in SD card, ext2/3/4 partition or A2SD+ which puts all your data on the SD card, minus I don't know what, because it keeps reducing and I never figure out what. I am lazy to use adb.exe to go check.
SquithyX said:

Yes, because you really ran out of space. 350MB system partition, gives you less than 50MB of userdata partition provided you have 10MB of cache partition.
I was wondering that...
So if I create a "userdata" partition on the SD card the system should use that... meaning no userdata partition on the NAND... meaning SD-Ext and Data2SD features are not needed?
But then surly if it was that easy somebody else would have done it?!
The layout I am thinking is:
NAND/
--/misc (1mb)
--/boot (5mb)
--/recovery (5mb) *Is this needed? - Is this not for the recovery programs that we have on SD?
--/system (350-400mb) *theoretically upto 491mb as no userdata on NAND
--/cache (10mb)
SD/
--/userdata (1gb) *Could be bigger, but have read that it can cause corruption if over 2gb
-Fat32 (leftovers)
But all of this comes back to Q2a. When does the kernel load SD partitions?!
Other idea is to set the "userdata" in NAND to set size and grow the "system" partition and carry on using SD-Ext and Data2SD for internal storage, something like:
NAND/
--/misc (1mb)
--/boot (5mb)
--/recovery (5mb)
--/cache (10mb)
--/userdata (50mb)
--/system (leftovers) *441mb
SD/
--/Ext (1gb)
-Fat32
But then does the "system" partition have to be created 4th and wont work if created last???? And what about all the plastic trees, where do they go?! My head hurts, i'm cold and there are wolfs after me!
I am guessing that creating userdata on sd card might work, but I don't know how your build mounts partitions, so that is your job too.
but you should read up on data2sd, data2ext, a2sd+ and a2sd
No, you can move the partitions around, it worked for me.

Partition SDcard?

I have a 8GB card. I want to make him partitions. Cate advised me to make them and how to be partition?
I enter the recovery menu and I there partition sdcard
You can follow that, or, another easy way is to install ROM Manager App, and select Partition SD Card from within that app. Then simply select size of EXT and Swap partition and it will partition your card.
Make sure your SD Card is backed up before partitioning, because it will format your card.
3xeno Well I do not know that. how to make swap partition and how that?
I am so: 128mb,256mb.512,mb,1024mb,2048mb and 4096.
If you choose to 2048MB how should I put swap? I write as swap 0M, 32M, 64M, 128M and 256M?
It depends on whether you want to use swap or not. I don't use a swap partition, so I kept it at 0.
thanx you very much friends for infformation

So, the Partition Size of the Ext2... for a 4GB card, 1GB is legit?
I know.... depends on the apps, but let´s say. if I have an onboard Navigation soft, will the maps use the fat or the ext-Partition for their data?
And also Music... like flac, it´ll probably go standard on the fat partition, right?

If you use the app's inbuilt ability to move to the SD, it will be moved to the standard FAT32 partition. Only if you enable additional scripts like DTApps2SD, will you be able to move apps to the EXT partition.
Other stuffs like music and all will continue to use the FAT32 partition. On a stock ROM, without an Apps2SD script, the EXT partition will remain unused.

Thnx for your answer!
I read through the buzz nightly thread and s.o. voted for Link2SD from the market and that sounds to me like the best way to go for sd, since I too believe not everything (especially the cache) should be moved to sd to keep up stability.
For me coming from linux, it's hard to understand why android uses fat at all for data.

[Q] A Q about ext4

Hi,
I'm in need of some info. The newer nightlies support ext4. After what I have understood the transfer isn't automatically done so one needs to take a backup of the things I wanna save from the sd card and then enter recovery mode and manually format the sdcard. Is that right?
I would also like to know how big files ext4 supports and if it's possible to mount an ext4 formatted sdcard in a pc?
Cheers

The convertion to ext4 only effects the internal /data partition. The SD is not touched and also shouldn't be touched. Android, for now, cannot handle a SD not formated as FAT32. Windows also cannot read these partitions by default, only with the help of extra tools like Ext2FSD.
To convert your internal /data partition, choose advanced backup in CWM Recovery and select "data", when the backup is finished, exit the recovery via "go back" until you see the bootmenu.
- Select Tools
- Select File System Tools
- Select Format Data and Cache in ext4 !!!The internal /data partition will be erased!!!
- Go back to Stable Recovery
- Restore your "data" backup via advanced restore
- Aaaand done!

Not enough memory to install anything

Hi,
Short / long story:
I have long time unused HTC HD2.
With Android (NexusHD2-KitKat-CM11.0_V4.5.zip is the file which I found in backup, so I assume this is what I install - sorry, it was long time ago.
Some time ago I need microSD card so I took it from my HD2, I did backup only windows FAT32 partition.
Now, I need to run my HD2 , I have install microSD 2 GB (800 MB FAT32 + 1GB Ext4) but is not working correctly.
It starting I can install Teamviewer, but when I need to install HTC module for teamviewer it's telling me that is not enough storage.
Quite often is restarting and after restart not keeping any settings (wi-fi) app installed (teamviewer) it's resetting each time to factory settings.
In Settings - Storage shows 'Total space' - Available 0.00 bytes
I did what is instructed on this webpage but it didn't help http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...mory-in-android-nand-roms-cannot-install-apps
Can anybody advise me which is the easiest way to make my HD2 working properly? Means have enough memory to do anything.
The purpose of restoring my HD2 is working as a router, tethering machine. I need to share internet from mobile network for smart TV and Tablet over wi-fi. It will be unattended so I need remote control access (team viewer host).
I'm open for a suggestion of changing the ROM if there is something reasonable easy and described (as I'm not big ROM expert). i've seen a ROM list for HD2, is too long.
Thanks in advance for your help.
it sounds like you are missing a data partition, perhaps the sdcard you used before had an ext4 partition which your new one does not have. Use recovery, in nand, to create an ext4 partition, then boot into rom, might work.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I did Ext4 by MiniTool Partition under Windows primarily.
And later in recovery, I have setup 1024MB and swap = 0 M.
It didn't help.
Should I mount it or so?
Update:
I have a look in log in nand - recovery and it's says that my second partition is Ext3 not Ext4.
And there is no way to change it.
What is your nand recovery? version?
Clk or magldr?
The recovery might say ext3 when it means ext4, but it does not seem right.

try using the recovery to format the ext partition to ext2 or 3 then use it again to ext4

As I said, I have created and formatted partitions under windows FAT32 & Ext4 and then under recovery, there was no choice of the file system file, I can only choose the size. And it was formatted to Ext3 - log saying.
