Hey xda´s!
Today I´m getting my own HD2 from england and I can´t wait to hold it in my hands
But I have some questions about the phone.
The first one is...Will the HD2 be upgradeable to Wiindows Phone 7 or if it will not be official upgradeable will the xda´s can do it? I know its early to ask about WM7 because there are not really many specs out about it yet but I would like to know what you think about that
And my second question is...Will the HD2 with it´s capacitive screen have full "multitouch" aahh sorry "pinch to zoom" support on WM7?
...or will the xda´s enable more multitouch gestures in the next weeks or months?
There have been tons of queries about this subject, please use the search before posting. It's probably safe to say that HTC won't be giving us WinMo7 the official way, but I'm sure the XDA community will find a way getting it to our beloved HD2 "the other way"
it will be possible congrats for ur new mob you'll love it
Yep! Thats right! If not Officially, you can bet that Win Mo 7 will be made available on the HD2 by the talented devs here. And not just that, we might even get Android to run on it!
Congrats on your purchase!

Thats a point i never got...
Why do people want to port Android on Wimo Phones? I you like Andorid, why don't you directly buy an Android phone which was designed for the operating system. I guess thats better than having a bad ported version running on a phone desigend for windows mobile.
actually this subject is non sense.

People do it because, in the case of the HTC Leo/HD2, there's not one piece of hardware quite like it being sold with Android installed.
I guess smartphones are quickly becoming the new PCs & Laptops of the age. Some people buy a PC with an OS installed as default, they like the hardware but not the OS (usually Windows, maybe OSx) so they just format the HDD and install say Ubuntu etc etc.

Yeah but you will never get a well-performing port until an OEM makes a device with the same hardware. Who's going to make the drivers for you?

That's true. Though the Acer A1 and Xperia X3 both use snapdragon so drivers (or partial drivers) will undoubtedly make their way to the porting project.
Yes but then you will have Android devices with the same level of hardware as HD2! So the initial question remains - why not buy them instead of coping with inevitable problems with ports?
It's not like drivers instantly start working when you copy them from one device to another, even with the same hardware platform - check out the video drivers thread to see what I mean. You're doomed to have problems like battery drain or calls dropping or poor performance in some areas or what not.
Then there will be some problems with applications - I don't know about the new devices, but all the current Android ones have low-res screens.
In addition to that, you really want 2.0 with Sense, and there's no port of that available AFAIK. Plain Android is just dull, it's nothing to fret about, IMO.
I understand the fun of porting and making things work, but using that as your primary device? It's guaranteed to be worse than what you have now.
Neither of those devices have 4.3 inch touchscreens. Also The HD2 has a look and feel all of its own.
The only thing spoiling it for me is Windows Mobile and the terrible onscreen keyboard so if we could port Android to this device I would be elated as it has a much better marketplace (Windows Marketplace is really a sack over overpriced crap), less cludge and better built in apps - the Youtube app for example supports user subscriptions and favourites viewing, and I'm a big online video fan.
The fact that Android was built from the ground up for capacitive touchscreen devices rather than being a patched up ropey old operating system with a shell interface on top makes me drool at the idea of it being on the HD2, and YES we could buy an Android device of similar specification BUT where's the fun in that??? Check the name of this site.........................
Well, I'm not on the Google/Android hype bandwagon, I do admit that the UI out of the box there is much more finger friendly and the notifications are implemented in the best way among all the mobile phone OSes, but otherwise Android's greatness is blown out of all reasonable proportion. An Android crippled by driver incompatibilities/incomplete implementation is something that totally misses the concept of attractive in my terms...
That said, I'm sure I'll install it myself one day (via haret or otherwise) just out of curiosity, that would certainly serve to satisfying the geek in me. But to expect that your experience from using the device would improve is somewhat unrealistic.
I am happy with the HD2 and figured I would decide what platform to go with at the time of my next phone purchase. This report should mean I can try out Windows Mobile 7 on the HD2 and take that into consideration as well.

nice, i can't wait
MSmobiles is full of **** as usual. They post BS to get hits every once in a while.
health, I will be breaking down here because I do not know english: D
My question is if it would somehow go to the Windows Mobile 7 on Touch 2.
if there is somewhere I'm sorry I'm a beginner: D
If you're asking if the touch 2 will be able to run windows phone 7 OS then almost certainly not, sorry
The real question is, would you want to? apart from being nice to look at, WP7 is very limited.
Not almost certanly, its 100 000 % sure
I know, I was being a little too kind.
Like I said, for me, the negatives outweigh the positives when it comes to wp7, only the new ui is improved. and the xbox live integration.
Keep in mind guys that you can not run any existing application on WM7 (change of operating system)....requires new development of all software.....
Not sure if I want WM7.....untill enough freeware is available.....

WM7 is not out as of now, so you won't find ANY device with WM7 AFAIK.
As far as running WM7 on Touch2 ... well unless it is released - who can say? I have seen some great things in this forum - which I never thought was possible.
So, may be you should wait in anticipation.. it just might .

Maybe you are right and we judge too early......but based on what Microsoft has announced sofar it is not very encouraging. And the many software operating developments by the various phone manufacturers shows the innovation weakness of microsoft.
Also the XDA community has shown that they can turn microsoft software into something workable.....and there is no reason why this can not be done with WM7.....

Yeah! M$ is only to make Dollars . Thats why I trust xda more than M$ or even HTC .
If it was to M$, I would have never been able to run WM 6.5 on my Vox .
So, let us keep our fingers crossed .
But when it comes to port another OS to the Touch2, won't be Windows Mobile 7 easier than Android ?
Would it be possible to run Windows Phone 7 on the Xoom you think. I know theJPhone part won't work. But just to see how it might look and run. Just a thought.

Windows 7 isn't supported on Tegra processors. Thats why you won't be able to install it.
i hope noone who has the ability to maybe realize that is trashing his abilities so hard.
Maybe Windows 8 as its supposed to support ARM processor instructions. Start looking for a leaked beta soon.
Also for future reference only post in the Development section if your developing something (an application or ROM). This doesn't include asking about developing something.
Hey All,
So can I just ask why?
I mean I have a Windows Phone 7 phone as my backup/work phone (benefit of being in IT I get to not order my self a blackberry or an Iphone) and I can honestly say its a nice device and have owned 3 different generations of Zunes. Battery life is excellent and the UI is nice and clean and it works well. If I wasn't as vested as I was in android I would possibly consider making that the OS of my primary phone (which is currently a Droid X) once they have them on good old Verizon and HDMI out. That being said even good old Microsoft (who I actually really like) has said Windows Phone 7 is a phone only OS and not meant to be run on tablets. The whole design of the OS actually kind of falls apart if you imagine it on a large display since its novelty instead of having sub windows have everything on one horizontally long display, with the sub menu features essentially hidden off screen.
Now as for Windows 7, as of this point it wouldn't be possible. Windows 7 currently supports only x86 and x64 chips and google stopped supporting these processor types in android after 1.6. Which is the odd reason why some of those new dual boot android/win7 tabs all use android 1.6. So to pull off a main stream Windows OS on this tablet you will have to wait for Windows 7 Embedded (which is win 7 + mobile cpu/gpu support) or Windows 8.
Once they release an offical beta of Win 7 Embedded I have a funny feeling it will be ported to all sorts of devices

Shame
Reading the replies for that gentleman post is like reading a rude war against someone who is just asking a very simple question in an open forum, well people you all shouldn't be that rude to him.. replying with some helping words is better than posting harsh words.. aren't you all knowing what is the meaning of being "Polite"?
may be some day..
it would be a huge undertaking to do something like this.
however, despite feelings running high and peoples obvious favour toward android i do think it would be great to be able to run Windows7 or Windows Phone 7 on the Xoom.
Take as an example the HTC HD2 - its a windows mobile device that now supports the following list of operating systems..
windows mobile ce
windows phone 7 series
android stock
android sense
linux ubuntu - kubuntu
maego
windows95-98 ( emulation )
this is simply because some very talented developers locked on to the HD2 as it was the first superphone with a big screen and big power, and it came along before Android had such devices available...
back to the XOOM - i doubt we will ever see this sort of porting wizardry on our Xooms but nothing is set in stone, if someone could create something like MAGLDR (see HD2 forums) but for the Xoom then we could all enjoy a huge range of operating system choices.
Also, we all need to be aware that for the most part devices are perfectly able to run all sorts of operating systems in theory but as they are mass produced by manufacturers the way they are today we don't get to enjoy the fully unlocked benefits that we could.
imaging buying a pc and finding it wasn't possible to install LINUX instead of Windows !! - you would take it back to the store !!
Okay so i haven't offered a solution here - but lets not stop the imagination of others providing ideas that may some day become possibilities. and lets all hope that some day we can buy tablets like we buy pc's, with the ability to be loaded with a choice os O/S solutions.

I am very much sorry for my last review, Actually I typed only about Windows Mobile 6.5 on it as I did research on only HTC HD2 with winmo 6.5 but my stupid friends researched on winmo 7 and Android and they typed all bull****. My exams were going on so I didn't logged in, and today, I found 90% people saying my previous review was rubbish and 10% saying good.
Please Find original Review Below:-
Tested Phones:-
Windows Mobile 6.5- HTC HD2
Windows Mobile 7- HTC HD7
Android- HTC Desire HD
All mobile phones are used are of HTC
Many People come up with this question that which OS is better? Android or WinMO? 7 or 6.5? So Now i've answers for all your questions.
Please see the reviews of the following OS(s) below:-
Android:-
A very Good and Exciting OS. It is the most Popular OS today. Many big companies like HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericson, LG etc. are coming with this OS today. Some small companies like IDEOS, Micromax etc. are also coming with Android OS.
Android was made popular by Google and supports the most number of apps at current time. Google Voice makes it better to search things and to enable voice command features. Android, Today is famous for both- Its business Usage, and its social usage.
Today HTC has made HTC SENSE UI to enable Android users with HTC Sense. But the Sense UI user interface is still not good enough against winmo user interface. The only problem of Android is less user interfaces. But we don't have to worry because XDA Developers have made possible for us to get the HTC Sense Winmo 6.5 user interface.
When HTC Desire HD was tested, We found that it was hanging a little. This problem is also in HTC HD2 with winmo 6.5, but in HD2 its very less, and if we use a storage Card with more storage, it gets resolved.
Themegastar1 Rating- 9.5/10.
Windows Mobile 6.5
It is a very good OS, It was developed by Microsoft after making winmo 6.1 which was featured in HTC Touch Pro.
It is a good OS for all ages like Android is good for all ages. It has a high technology. But the only thing that is wrong is, all phones with Winmo 6.5 in it are costly as Microsoft is selling this technology to companies at a high price.
The main Dis-advantage of this phone is that it has less apps available. If you don't have a High Memory Storage Card(At least 2 GB memory Card Required), your phone may hang while opening the Windows files or any other file, that can be resolved by locking the phone for a few seconds, and then click on arrow and click on My Device/Storage Card. Its Windows Marketplace also doesn't have a lot of apps and we have to download Omarket from Freeware Pocket Pc to get more apps.
Themegastar1 Rating- 9.5/10
Windows Mobile 7
It is a good OS, which was made by Microsoft, but the main disadvantage in it is that it doesn't have any good User Interface and cannot be Personalized a lot like Winmo 6.5 and Android. It also doesn't have Bluetooth(HTC Mozart), because of which it lacks in technology. It also doesn't have an SD Card Slot which makes it a stupid Choice.
This version of Windows Mobile has Zune and XBOX Live in It which makes this OS a good option for gaming. It also uses Hang-Free Technology and has good speed than that of Android and Winmo 6.5.
If people are thinking to buy mobiles with this OS, they should wait for a while as Microsoft is launching their phones with all of the above features that are missing in this phone. The only thing that it will not have is a good User Interface and less customizable options.
Themegastar1 Rating- 9.5/10.
So, you chose which is better for you. I think these will help you to decide which is better OS.
I have not included Apple iOS(Iphone Os), Palm OS and other OS(s) in it because they come in less phones(Ie. iOS comes only in iPhone).
OMG !!
He's back !!!

Ok, if you want honest feedback, you could take what you have written already and update it to more current matters.
Your review of the android section doesn't really 'flow' smoothly. No one is really 'coming' with the OS, they're making devices that 'Use' different versions. You should really say that and maybe even talk about the differences in the versions.
Don't bother talking about IDEOS or Micromax.
Your review of WinMo 6.5 is strangely phrased and your review of Win7 just inaccurate.
I would say scrap all 3 reviews and start fresh. And not say 'Super OS' as the title.
Not trying to be mean, but I'm sure you can write better than this.
I will not say much as other post have already given you some good advice. What I do want to say and try to educate you on is, please do not get confused. Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 are not the the same OS. Windows Mobile 6.5 is the last in the line of Windows Mobile releases. Windows Phone 7 is Microsofts completely new OS that they released to try to better compete with Andriod as Windows Mobile is more a busness man's oriented and tech head oriented OS. There is 100% no reverse compatibility with anything Windows Mobile be it apps or whatever from Windows Mobile to Windows Phone 7 as they are both written with different code and have different structure. So you see the only thing they have in common is the are both Microsoft products but that is it. So when you talk about them do not call Wndows Phone 7 Windows Mobile 7 as it is not.
my thoughts as the chaps above have given you fantastic advice:
- scrap all 3 reviews and start fresh. i assume that you have played around extensively with all 3 extensively (wm6.5, wp7 and android)? my suggestion is for you to google the reviews for each and compare your own experiences
- the reviews you gave for all 3 are jumping all over the place in terms of topics covered.
- each was given a 9.5 rating out of a possible 10 yet the reviews show negativity in certain features?
- the reviews don't go deep enough and are barely scratching the surface
no offense mate but if your friends did say the reviews were bs they could be reflecting what others think as well.
with that, don't go about and revise your reviews asap. take your time. read more on the experiences of other people and compare what you have seen when playing around with the devices. once you get a better picture, go for it.
simple advice....dont write a review man...we guys are smart enuff...to know wats right...and theres pocketnoww...gizmodo...engadget....phonescoop....gsmarena...etc..!!

Hello Friends,
I have a question for all of the mobile developers. You might think I'm Joking. But its Serious. Is there any way to run android apps(2.1-2.3) in HTC HD2(Leo) which is running Windows Mobile? Many People Say 'NO'. But emulation of any OS is possible. We all thought that we can run PS2 games only on Sony Playstation 2 but we were proved wrong by PCSX2 by launching first PS2 Emulator. So I want to know is there any emulator by which I can run android apps on my HTC HD2? Its difficult but I think XDA Developers can make this type of emulators. It will also help thousands of people. I am an IT Professional and a software developer(Windows) but i don't know about developing apps for mobile. Otherwise would have made/wrote android apps in WM language/scripts. Some News also came that there are certain Converters which can convert Android Apps into J2ME or WM apps. I need a solution to this problem.

Can A teen not be IT Professionalist, or a Software Developer. I have created a browser, toolbar and other things so far. I know C++, What do you think, Kids can't do anything?
As I said in that forum/thread, I will create android emulator. And I am creating it now. Currently I study in G.S.Convent, and my exams have ended on 9th March 2011, and my new session begins on 1st April 2011, So What. I have just got to 9th Class. You should take out this from your mind that kids can't do anything. Search for Arun Wadhwa or Themegastar1 or Arun Themegastar1 and you will get all information about me. Please don't hurt any child's feeling. If you don't like the review, don't see my other reviews or don't comment, why are you not doing anything(writing review) and complaining.
My wife just said, "Ah, bless him".
[QUOTE If you don't like the review, don't see my other reviews or don't comment, why are you not doing anything(writing review) and complaining.[/QUOTE]
mate
- i did comment in page 1 of this thread and gave my own point thoughts
- i don't do reviews because i'm more than happy with my current hd2 android set up. i'd rather read the more helpful reviews of other members to get their tips and advise. not threads which are, as others have said, bs
- i don't go around starting threads stating which is the best os and i have answers to all the questions
- didn't say kids can't do anything. you made that assumption. for a "software developer" your reviews barely contained any technical details related to the field
- you're comparing credentials now? i'm the vp of quality in a firm engaged in developing programs, interfaces, software, scripts, xmls, etc, etc and more etc. i work for the government and they pay me what they pay me because they know i have the skills that enables me to successfully do my thing.
- i could probably develop a rom or an emulator or whatever related to android or wm or wp. the reason i don't is because there are gurus in this forum who do a better job than me. there are dudes in this forum who give better reviews and i listen to them.
this is a total waste of time. outta here dude. have fun.

Here's my review
Windows Phone 7:
It is a new OS. Microsoft come up with this OS. This OS has blue tiles in the main screen, but you can change other colors too. It is a new OS so not many apps for the OS. Microsoft made this OS after 6.5. Some people call it Windows Mobile 7 which is wrong. WP7 is short for Windows Phone 7.
The OS still needs development which will take time for Microsoft. Big companies like LG is having WP7 on there phones. Small companies do not know what WP7 is. WP7 has many apps but all are not good. Only some apps are good.

Android:
Android is made by Google. Its also an exciting OS.Because Google is big people think Android is big. Android has many apps and is very popular among school kids because they use Google voice and messenger to chat in class while the professor is teaching. Big companies do not like Android because people are chatting while the CEO meeting is going on. Android has many apps which are good. One app is Google Search which allows you to search on Google everything you want including better Android review than mine. Android has bad user interface but HTC made a new User Interfaece called HTC Sense. Sense because people have common sense so HTC thought everyone will like Sense. But companies like Motorola have their own version of screen. Android sometimes hangs a little.

Windows Mobile 6.5
Very good OS.
Windows Mobile 6.5 is Microsofts OS which came many years ago. This is a very popular OS because many people use it. Even the God of cellphones the HD2 uses it.Windows Mobile 6.5 has bad user interface and bad apps. Marketplace doenst have nice apps and this makes the OS really bad. However with WM6.5 you can use apps like SPB Mobile shell to change the look and make it better. You can also use Coreplayer to watch movies. Windows Mobile 6.5 phones have bad hardware and less storage and RAM. People nowadays like more RAM and memory so WM6.5 is no good.

Dear all,
I just have a very old topic asked many time, on different threads but I have a reason for those who have patience to read it all,
Well friends I have read on many forms that if anybody wants android then they should buy android device, & those want windows phone should buy a windows device, BUT LET ME TELL THE NEW SMARTPHONE members,
" its not stupid to ask for dual OS on a newer device, most of us have our PC with dual OS whether win95se & win98se, or windows Me & win XP or vista or XP & win7, and Linux" so it should be promoted at an open resourse like xda forum, rather than asking to buy particular is device, its just matter of interest for experienced developers to work for these multiple OS. On one device,
I can just say a tag from one of our famous xda developers 'BePE' " ITS Our device & we are the one to decide what we wish to run on our purchased devices, we paid a handsome money to buy these devices, &its not Microsoft or apple or google or Nokia or etc to lock up our options just in the name of security and putting so many locks(developer lock, root lock, interop unlock) its a free world
For those who think its absurd I will just say that (except htc magician & HTC PDA2K)
I Have seen happen from early devices, right from k-jam to jasjam to to JasJar(aka universal) to HTC tytn to HTC diamond to HTC topaz to HTC Blackstone & finally to the legendary HTC hd2 every user who believes that user is the person who decides what he wants to run on the device, as they pay a handsome amount to buy the devices

OK. What EXACTLY is your point?
Another idiot. Try port it by yourself, stop asking it. Noone cares about your request.
Android is a pesky system as far as hardware requirements are concerned. you will need new drivers for pretty much everything there is in windows phone hardware.
There is also the secure boot chip, which won't allow anything but windows phone to boot on the device. So good luck porting it.

The point is my friend that I am not asking to do a android port for windows device and its the first time I am posting any thing regarding android on a windows forum, but as I mentioned I see lot of users asking about the dual os and the reply they get is " buy a android device"
Its absurd, previously we used to see a decent and logical explainations like " it depends on how many users are interested in such development'
Its XDA developers forum & is a decent and respectable and its been open to any idea, people must maintain the dignity of this place, rather than Dictating the other users to buy a different devices

I know my options mr. Smart a** and I am not asking it to develop it for me, I just pointed out the matter, well if the person who asks such question was so brilliant and in a position to develop a dual os by himself than he rathar than asking in forum he/se would have posted it and made a sticky on your face.
This is a creative forum, to promote ideas, not a personal property of yours,
If it would have been that no one cares than we would still have only wm 2003se or wm5 or wm6 or em6.5 on many devices are running dual boot at present
one idea on this would be to wait for the android emulator in the SDK to get updated to windows RT, (windows RT and winphone 8 have the same kernel) so once that happens, we can run our emulator on top of winphone 8
I may be slow, but it's a start point.
Well hardware doesn't look much of a deciding factor - as these days there are many android devices powdered by krait but i believe we must port/re write drivers build new kernel etc . We need a hell lot of people with good enough know how on the technical side of things to have a constructive discussion on this subject here .
Just say no to Andoroid on Windows devices.:silly:

Seriously, I've had two Android devices; a phone and a tablet. I gave them a try because you had more options to customize and such but the OS just plain sucks ass and it's glitch just like if not worse than Windows Mobile. I use to complain about not being able to do the stuff I use to be able too on WM all the time when I switched to WP but now I don't have to worry about extrem lagg, reboots and battery drains.

thanks you for your generous reply, i feel that's how we at xda have been reasoning politely to our fellow members
And again a thread on the same topic and I'll give you pretty much the same reply I have given on most of those threads: it's just not very likely to happen anytime soon.
It has always taken quite a long time before HSPL has become available on WP7 devices and for some there still is none. Especially Nokias Bootloaders have been declared to hard to hack by some developers. Given that with WP8 Microsoft introduced Secure Boot which cryptographically verifies the Bootloader AND Kernel for correct signatures before loading them it has gotten quite a lot harder to do than it has been on WP7 and even though there was HSPL for WP7 devices (and devices like the HTC Titan had a practically identical brother with Android) there has never even been the hint of a succesful port.
Aside from that - many Android ports to other hardware (Windows Mobile) were either unstable or lacked lots of hardware support (Camera and GPS being the most common problems). Based on all this, the correct answer to people who bought a WP device but don't like the OS and would prefer Android can only be: sell the device and buy an Android device. You can do it today and it will work reasonably well.
The alternative would be to tell people to wait for an unlikely event (a port) to happen and then after more than a year get a system that lacks important functionality or performs badly. Therefore, with all the information currently available the only answer to give people who ask for it: if you want Android buy an Android device (or port it yourself).
