micro SD chip encryption - help - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hey, before I set the encryption setting on my phone for the files on my 4 gig SD card, and then i did a hard reset, and now basically i can view the files on the card the were encrypted..can anybody help or direct me towards it..thanks!
dumb move i know.

I think your hosed. The whole point of the encryption is that you cannot access the files from "another phone" For the purposes of the encryption,I think the reset phone is "another phone"

same problem here... hmmmm.. please htc.. do something
try a soft reset.
are you on a VF uk phone?
Got the same problem last week.
I find out the memory card got corrupted. dont know why.
XP didnt seen the card in reader at all.
Vista helped me to format the card, but i lost all my data, as i have to do full format to get the card live again.
Yes tried that. Yes on Vodafone but using laurentius26's Ultimate Rom which I believe is based on a T-Moile rom. I have been using this for some months without issue.
How do you format a memory card that can't be seen?
when you open file explorer can you see it there
or has it dissapeared from that too?
File Explorer will not open so soft reset now it opens but whole startup process now quite slow.Storage card indicated ...tap on it get inbox .mstxxx so email I guess and Temp folder containing cookies, History and temp int files. Thats my lot.
This is a common problem. Try removing the memory card, soft resetting then delete the folder "Storage Card" or "Storage Card2" if it exists. Reset again and insert memory card.
This problem occurs when the storage card is mounted on a PC (Disk Drive mode) and an application such as email tries to write to it. Windows decides the folder (as the storage card is mounted as a folder) has been deleted, so re-creates it. When the memory card is unmounted from the PC, windows has to call it something other than "Storage Card" as that name has now been allocated to a folder.
If that is not the problem, put the card into a PC and see if it recognizes it. It might say "this card is not formatted" etc. in which case you need to reformat and lose all of the data on it
the_sikko is quite correct the same thing happened to me last week. I simply re-connected to the pc and deleted the newly created 'storage card' and that resolved my problem.
I did notice a folder called Storage card earlier on now after numerous resets it's gone. I have also reset back to factory settings. Each time I reinsert the card Windows Mobile Device centre shows me the memory card (although my phone indicates no sd card loaded etc.) but when I try to access it, it disappears!
Try increasing the timeout that allows your storage card to be detected when the device is booting or coming out from suspension.
These registry edits worked for me:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPUnloadDelay“=dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPWaitIODelay“=dword:8196
Also, you may want to disable the power management on your storage card with:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class]
“DisablePowerManagement“=dword:00000001
Hope this helps
Ok now I will have to learn wo to edit my registry
So without having to edit my registry I managed to grab the file that said Storage card but when I tried to delete (with the card still inserted) it I'm told Access is denied and I should check the card is not write -protected or currently in use. When I try to open it it simply disappears. If I try to delete it with the card removed I get Cannot delete "mxip_notify":There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use.
Any suggestions?
Could really do with some help here cos I'm well and truelly lost in terms of what my options are.

I literally just had this issue. I have two Kingston 4GB cards and one of them simply stopped working. I wasn't able to copy anything from the mSD card to my laptop, so have simply formatted the card and now it no longer shows up in Windows Explorer (Windows 7).
Now i'm using the other card. I can tell by the way this card is responding in the HD2 that the other card became corrupt. I have just ordered two Transcend 8GB mSD cards from eBay for about £30.
I downloaded a tiny piece of software which is supposed to bypass Windows Explorer limitations and force format SD cards...but it won't work because the card just doesn't show to the laptop.
Well in the end I put the SD card into the card slot of a PC and after a very very long time I managed to format the card. All is well now.
my card got corrupted too
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done.
Had to Hard Reset
Just to add my two pennies worth.
None of the above worked for me. In the end I had to Hard Reset. Harrumph!

Locked out of encrypted files

So I bought the S7 edge popped in my SD card and encrypted It. The card was giving me some issues so I backed up my files on my Pc formated the SD card and reloaded the files (MP3s) now when I go to play many of the songs they don't play and just say "sorry unable to play file type" it's odd because about half of the songs do work any ideas for fixing this I have a quite a large music collection and it would be quite pain staking to have to download these one by one again
Would encrypting them and decrypting them help?
Really none of the brilliant minds here at Xda have any idea?
Did you copy the files off with the SD in a pc reader or via mtp from the phone? I would guess the the base encryption key data is different since you reformatted the card, it would make sense to me because otherwise there would be no point to supporting SD encryption.

SD in a pc reader. Is there anyway for it to read the files again?

If Google did their work well, not likely.
I don't know the details but the only consumer hope would be with the card inserted in the device that formatted it as theoretically the encryption of the SD card should be done with private key data that is tied to the device it was formatted within (in addition to whatever private data you provided such as a PIN). Otherwise it would be too easy to just move the card to another device to decrypt the data.
I've seen some references to the Android SD card encryption *not* necessarily encrypting media files (music, movies, pictures?) so it's possible those files were not at all encrypted - which is substantiated by the fact that you can play SOME of them.
It may be that the files that don't play are, unfortunately, simply, corrupted data and not encrypted at all. ;^(

I had the exact problem, it seems to be some issue with a lot of S7's from from my research online. After almost giving up after a few weeks I finally did find a fix which hopefully will work for you and anyone else who has encountered/ will encounter this problem. Here are the steps I took:
1. After the sd card became unresponsive on my phone after encryption, I transferred all my files from the sd card to my PC. I had to do this via the sd card slot on my laptop as the card was not being recognized when connected via the phone.
2. I then formatted the sd card on my PC. For those not familiar with the process just right click on the card in "my computer" and select format then quick format.
3. I then reinserted the card into the phone to make sure it was recognized, then removed it again, inserted it into the PC and transferred all the files back over.
4. I went into my phone under security settings and changed lock screen security to "none" while leaving fingerprint on.
5. I put the sd card back into the phone with the files. They won't be accessible as yet since they're encrypted but the next step is to go ahead and encrypt the sd card. Wait however long you have to, for me it took less than a min. After this go back and decrypt the sd card, let that process run through then the files should now be decrypted and accessible. If the sd card goes unresponsive again just try again by formatting the sd card and putting the files back, this time maybe a few files at a time.
If this method works for you I would suggest backing up your data frequently and staying away from encrypting the sd card at least until samsung/android release a fix for this issue.

SD card not working

Hello, I'm new here.
I'm using Moto X Style Indian version with Android Marshmallow from last 5 months. I'm using "SANDISK ULTRA microSD UHS-I CARD" with format as internal storage without any problem, but now suddenly a notification show up that "Insert your SD card", I even didn't remove my card since I put it once. I tried to insert my SD card to HTC phone, saying "Damaged SD card" with only option for format it. (I'm not able to take screenshots or click any pic)(SD card is still in my moto x style but in setting it shows "Not Inserted".)

Welcome to the world of adopted storage...
Try to power off the device, remove the card and reinsert it, then power back up. If that fails, either the card has failed or the encryption key has gotten corrupted or "lost". There isn't a lot you can do to save or resurrect it if your device doesn't see the card and unencrypt the data.
When a card is adopted as internal storage, it is encrypted and uses the ext4 filesystem, it will only work in the same device with the same key and cannot be read in any other device without formatting it back to FAT32 and wiping out all the data. There is some information here about reading the data with a Linux computer, if you have the appropriate card reader and can access the encryption key on the device.
Thanks for your reply @acejavelin,
I tried everything turn my phone off, eject card then reinsert it, still same error. Now what to do? Will I format my card with FAT32 by attach my card with PC? I know my data will not save... but I have no option.

Yes... Reformat it in a PC or in another device. Personally, I would not reuse the card, especially as adopted storage, since it can no longer be trusted.

Ok, I will also not use this card again with adopted storage. Thanks for your suggestion @acejavelin .
Seems my problem will be solved , but all my data will loss :crying:
Sounds like the problem is with your phone's SD card reader, not with the card itself. Other computers / phones will tell you the SD card is damaged/corrupted because they cannot read it (the card is encrypted), but that doesn't mean the card is actually damaged or corrupted.
You won't be able to extract your data from it unless you can get it to read the card again. I would try popping out the sim /sd card tray and shoving it back in many times, to see if eventually it will read (mine takes 2-3 tries before it will read)
If you can't get it to work you may need to contact Moto support to get a replacement under warranty (assuming you haven't unlocked the bootloader / voided the warranty)
Definitely try another card though if you have access to one, just to check and see if it will read a different card.

Huawei P8 Full Encryption

Hi,
just bought the Huawei P8. Im wonder if my phone is now fully encrypted, including the SD Card.
1. Internal Storage
After factory reset there was no screen lock (just swipe to unlock). I clicked 'encrypt phone' and it took only a few minutes. AFTER that i could still swipe to unlock, there was no option to set a password during the encryption process. So I set the password afterwards. Now the pw must be entered to unlock the phone.
Does this mean the internal storage is now fully encrypted and can not be accessed without the password? Even though i did not set a password before the encryption?
What if someone where to remove the internal memory module from the phone?
Does the encryption encrypt ALL files in the internal storage or just certain areas?
2. SD Card
That one was strange, too. I clicked 'encrypt SD Card'. There i had to set a pw in advance.
But the encryption also took only a few minutes. That seems odd because the 64 GB SD Card was half full. This should have taken hours to encrypt.
Can I be sure alls files on the SD Card are fully encrypted now?
3. Why I am asking
Before I had the Samsung Galaxy A5.
When encrypting the device you had to set the pw in advance and it took much longer. That seems logical to me.
When encrypting the SD Card the phone asked me if I wanted to encrypt all files on the SD Card, including Fotos, Videos, MP3s etc. It warned me, that this might take a long time. Encrypting the SD Card with some 30GB on it took severeal hours. That also seems logical to me becaus SD Cards are much slower than the internal storage. So I am wondering why the Huawei P8 only took a couple of minutes for the SD Card.
Can someone please elaborate?
I am especially interested in having my photos (which save to the SD Card) encrypted so nobody can access them when my phone is stolen. I also have company emails and such on the phone.
Hi,
on internal storage... Data Partition would be encrypted. I am not sure if cache partition would also encrypted. File's from internal storage would be saved in Data, so all files are encrypted.
But SD-Card wouldn't be encrypted...it's only password protected. That's why it takes only few seconds to set the protection.
If you set a password for internal storage, you could choose to set the protection in the Boot process. So before the whole system boots up you would be questioned for the password.
Thanks for the answer.
I activated the boot password.
What use does the sd card password have? I tried to put the sd card in my computer and the card wasn't even detected. Does this mean nobody can access the files without the password? What is the difference to a full encryption?

need help!!!! for my encrypted device

Hey there fellas i am new to these forums so i dont exactly know how this thing works so bear with me and my english.
I had samsung J5 which i encrypted both (sd card and device) but somehow ive broke my phone and but thankfully was able to recover my sd card. but when i insert my sd card into my new phone the data won't load up although its shows the names and amount of files it contains but no picture, videos or audios. i remember my password which i used for encrypting the (card and device) but it doesn't prompt me to put my password and processes to decryption. please help me out how can i safely decrypt the SD card with all my data.
