Today a strange notification icon popped up in the bar that I've never seen before. Also the manual has no mention of any icon like this. The notification cannot be cleared.
See the images attached. It's the icon with a SIM card with a little "star" next to it.
Thing is, the text associated with it, Telenor SE, is actually my provider.
I've checked the phone info and it doesn't say it is roaming or any other strange stuff. Everything works just like it normally does.
Anyone has any idea what this icon means?
UPDATE: Found it, was a latent SIM toolkit update from my provider that was stuck, when it finally arrived the icon disappeared. Thanks all.
Hey,
Looks like a sim toolkit app?
Kr,

is your SD card working? looks like a similar one i saw when the sd card was duff.
pop your SD card out and see if it disappears, then you'll know. but the fact that it says telenor SE does make it sound like a STK screw up.

For some reason the graphic for HTC People - HTC Calander and HTC Music have disappeared in the start menu and shows a blank white window with its blue border. Even though this isn't a major problem I've set a Quick Link from the home screen to music and showing that white window loses the eye candy. Also the slider icons are working fine so its not a problem there. I'm sure if I reset the ROM it will fix it but I was wondering if there was another way to do this instead of having to lose everything and start again...
Thanks in advance !!
I dont know a solution, but partly the same icon problem here; HTC People icon in white/blue, Calendar icon okay, Music icon not there.
So you're not alone Ashley
Just reinstalled the ROM and its all back to normal, guess we couldn't fine a workaround no worries though !
any fixes without reflash.
did you try Change Start Menu Icons?

just deleted them, thanks for the info
So my friend has the SGS Fascinate and recently said that an icon appeared up in her notification bar. I couldn't identify it, although I assumed it had something to do with GPS or some kind of satellite connection. However, there was no indication as to where it was coming from, after perusing the settings.
After looking at it I've redrawn what it looks like, anyone else know what this icon could be?

Also, I noticed that when I turned off "VZW Location Services" under "Location and Security" that the Icon dropped the three wave bars and just the plus/diamond was still there.
What exactly is this thing? Anyone know?
Part of the DL09 update as I recall
It's the new E911 icon. It will always be there, and the only current fix is to replace the image for it with a transparent one, but it still takes up space on the notification bar.
Ok cool. Thanks for the answers!

To clarify and continue your answer, the icon is for Location Enabled.
(+) means that you have E911 service, which will always be enabled (by law)
(+)<))) means that you have E911 service AND one or more Location Services Enabled, either GPS, Google Location, or VZW location. The <))) will remain as long as you have ANY of the location services enabled.
This confused the hell out of me when I first saw it on DJ05, so that's why I wanted to offer a more complete answer
Hey guys, I'm having a series bug or issue with my phone. After I got the radios working yesterday, I installed some new apps and everything went fine. But now my dialer and contacts just disappeared! I can't make calls or even view my contact list. Also ontop of that, my status bar will only show signal level, battery and time. But it will not show the date, even when I ask it too in cyanogenmod settings.
I tried searching for an x10 app repository but I can't find one. I'd really like to restore things like mediascape and especially my dialer and contacts.
When I first installed I need to change the notification colours to everything readable on the status bar. Has the dialler disappeared or just force closes. I know I had issues after installingvthe Arc pack due to the InfinityView issue
The dialer has straight up disappeared. No phone capabilities at all when I try to call, but I can receive? And when I receive calls, the voice sounds all warped and hollowish? Does it have something to do with the baseband I installed?
i am enclosing two screenshots to show that there is only one thing in the corner that seems to be on. also nothing in the notifications bar except text me and battery saver and i tried deleting both of them and the notification sound still comes through every 5 to ten minutes, any ideas? does this symbol look familiar to anyone? thanks
What's Running
Hi gorelow,
Can't say that I have seen the symbol before myself, and it certainty doesn't look like a default android symbol. Looks like it's for a 3rd party app installed on the phone. Can you remember when you first saw the symbol and if you had installed any apps around the time of it appearence. Also might be a good idea to look at your current 3rd party running apps in settings and just force close a few, that you think could be linked to the notification and if you close the app that the notification is linked to it would dissappear telling you what app.
Merik
You can try to deactivate the notifications for one app by another in settings-->apps-->appXy-->show notifications and see when the notification disappears. Then you'll know which app is responsable for this icon. Hope this helps.

You're referring to the single icon on the left of your notification bar? Looks to me like the icon for Notification Toggles app - you can change the visibility of it in the settings for the app.
Thank you. It got rid of the icon. I've never experienced that app making a notification sound. I'll keep trying to figure out how sonething that doesnt show up can mak e a notification sound. Thanks again
I searched thoroughly and couldn't find a thread or a fix. Where do we edit the quick settings in the notification pulldown? Mine is blank, and I don't readily see it in Settings, nor is there an edit function in the pulldown. Suggestions?
You don't have the editing pencil icon on there?

Nah, it's straight blank...
Someone else here solved that by rebooting the phone. Afterward the pencil icon appeared and they were able to set it up. Can't remember which thread at this point.
I've rebooted twice. No success...
Pull down the notifications and then pull down again on the (blank for you currently) quicksettings section and you'll see pencil that lets you edit

Oddly enough, I was able to get the quick settings to show up on the lockscreen. I edited it from there, and voila. It's a wierd glitch...

Thanks for this. JUST picked up mine and was going crazy since I wasn't seeing the toggles. Very odd that it comes up blank like that out of the box.
Hey I found out the issue here. I had the same thing happen with the T-mobile variant. I did a factory reset and restored my google account and it was still missing. I did a second factory reset and didn't restore and sure enough it showed up. I then did the oneplus restore and nothing changed. I then got the phone unlocked and still no issue. After a restart everything was fine and then I did a google restore. I chose only to restore call logs and messages. The second it was done the quick settings disappeared again. This is clearly an issue with google and this device. Not sure if it's a T-Mobile issue specifically

Ah, thank you, that fixed it for me. Mine was looking just like yours. And when I locked the screen and then pulled down the notifications drawer, a pencil did appear which let me fix it all up.
I think I might know what broke it for me. When I upgraded my OnePlus 5 from OxygenOS 5.1.7 to 9.0.3, I still had jOnePlus Tools [adb/root] by JRoot3D.dev installed, and it was changing how many quick settings tiles are shown after one swipe down (in the single row). I think it was essentially doing this:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure sysui_qqs_count 8
When I used the app to change that number, all my quick settings tiles disappeared. The app has not been updated in a while, so I'm going to keep it off my phone until it's updated for Android Pie
Just as a quick update on this. This is still a problem on the T-Mobile device on 9.0.13 fully stock.
I guess this must then mean that the quick setting cannot be hidden on the lockscreen...

Actually, I think I found a better solution here.
The trick seems to be that on the unlocked version of the shade, the pencil and user switcher icons only show up when you expand the QS panel. However, if you don't have enough icons in the panel to force the need for the additional row (there is a little hint that shows up when you drag an icon that indicates that you need at least 6 icons), then you can't swipe it down, and there no icons or any warning of any sort are shown.
The shade on the lockscreen doesn't appear to enforce that icon minimum, so the pencil and user switcher show up fine (perhaps this is due to the fact that on the lockscreen, the notifications themselves don't live in the shade as they do when the device is unlocked).
It also seems like older OOS versions didn't enforce that icon minimum, so if you only had, say 4 icons (not sure who would do that), then did an upgrade, you would have this strange behavior.
